I was just really terrified because I thought that I bricked my Chink FPGA board with my cheap Chink CH341A flasher. Conencted the CH341 directly to the FPGA boards flash chip and the CH341 got really hot and the FPGA didn't load the program from the flash anymore.
Had to start a Windows PC with the Altera software to rewrite the flash and now it works again. The stupid CH341A corruped the flash and I didn't even write something, just wanted to read the contents of the flash.

Quick question: if I'm not that great at soldering, is it possible to damage the PCB beyond repair while desoldering stuff?

I've needed to change a dying capacitor in my network router for a long time (picrelated is the capacitor that keeps dying on these routers), but I keep putting it off because I'm afraid of killing the connections on the PCB while desoldering.

If you apply too much heat for an extended amount of time you can burn traces off the PCB, Go at it at around 320c and you'll be fine. Remember that the polarity matters on the cap

Just don't use a too high temperature on your soldering iron. If you have access to a quality soldering station which doesn't have problems with a high thermal capacitance you should use this one, because otherwise you have to compensate for that with a higher temperature on a cheap iron.

The only way you could damage the board while desoldering the cap is by pulling out the via of one of its pins. But usually it's not a problem to change a capacitor.

be sure to apply fresh (leaded) solder to the component before you remove it.

in most cases the pcb will start to visibly burn well before you cause irreparable damage, there's a fair bit of room to make mistakes, and if you do fuck it up too bad you can just put a jumper wire around the damaged trace

Picrelated is one of review pics from the board you posted. The issues with the soldering jobs were kindly outlined by the poor purchaser.
That's one of the reasons one might forgo your board for mine, where only USB connector is soldered on and all pins/jumpers are left for you to solder.

Yes, but you would need to be a moran of amazing proportions, don't let the soldering iron sit there for a minute or you're going to pull the while rail off.

Put the iron on the join wait 2-10secs (10secs for HUGE blobs of solder) as soon as the solder melts, pull the component, or use a pump.
