Hey fellow MacFags, I need some advice.

I can't decide between the new MBP without the Touch Bar with 8GB ram for $1500…

…or the 2015 rMBP with 16GB ram for $1500. Argh!

I do music production in Reaper.
>>
>>57327525
For music production, you'll be fine either way.

I just snagged the 2015 because I type a lot, and hate that new keyboard, but that would not be much of an issue for you. Your case would depend more on
1. whether you use a lot of external media, and if so, whether you're okay with the whole dongle thing.
2. How much difference that ram will make for your editing process.
>>
>>57328003
Thanks. I'm struggling between CPU vs RAM. Which is more important in producing and recording music?
>>
>>57327525
2013/2014 with the 750m
2015 is dogshit, and the 2016 is even worse
the 2014 and the 2015 have the exact same processor, and the 2013 is just .1 or .2ghz slower processor (still the same haswell arch)
>>
>>57327525
Build an hackintosh
You will get many times more powerful machine for much less cash

cpu. Audio isn't very large really but when your projects get complicated tge cpu will be the bottleneck, not the ram.

Also, the most important thing with music production is drive write/read speed. Get one that has a SSD and if you can do without, no optical drive. In its place have a large HDD.

>>57328423

I forgot to specify IF you use samples primarily then drive speed is very important. If you mainly use synthesis cpu is king.

I've produced on older computers and I hated it because I was forced to bounce everything to audio and I hated making that commitment.

I agree with this man. I own a mid 2014 MBPR and it's great. Agreed with all his points as well.
>>
>>57328423
thanks for the knowledge on cpu v ram

mind blown

>I do music production in reaper

Buy literally any 500 or above laptop with 8gig of ram
>>
>>57328423
Here's my question -- is that CPU really that much faster than the broadwell? It seemed that the major upside of kaby lake was reduced power consumption.

I would go with the 2015 one.
>better keyboard
>not so gimmickish
>thicker
>has ports you can actually use
I will buy a rmbp 2015 too on thursday.
>>
I know that FL-studio recommends people to get a processor with faster single-core performance than many cores. Got a hunch that conveys over to other daws too, so make sure your single-core score is good.

Why the fuck are you even asking this question? The new Mac is a complete fucking failure of biblical proportions. I thought people were stupid for contemplating an iPhone 7, but that stupidity pales in comparison to people that would purchase a 2016 Mac. Go for the 2015 option which is the last good Mac ever.
>>
>>57329522
Do this OP, or buy a good PC.

This desu. I started making electronic music with an acorn electron and a 4 track, anyone who tells you you need a Mac when you're starting out doesn't know what they're talking about.
>>
>>57328619
This
Reaper takes almost nothing from your computer, you'll want a not-shit CPU for using tons of VSTs and an SSD for using tons of samples
Outside of that you could run reaper on a fucking potato
>>
>>57329389
>got a hunch that because this program is not multi-threaded all programs are not multi-threaded
The reason for this of course is that most DAWs are indeed single-threaded, because they rarely even need more

Have fun with your adapters senpai.
>>
Do you plan to use East west?
Because if not you should be good with any of these(so take the newer one you will get longer support better screen it will be thinner etc.).
Also why not use logic?
>>
>>57331225
Also new MacBook has faster ssd which will be useful in music production.
>>
>>57327525
New keyboard feels like garbage.

it means that the cooling solution is better.

Agreed
>>
>amateurs think they need this shit and that somehow the model from 2 years ago won't be good enough for their EDM beatz

we've run entire live shows with 30-40gb of audio files synths and effects, routed time code, networked midi triggers etc on a couple of 2013 macbook airs without going above 50% cpu.

Stop falling for the sales pitch.
>>
>>57332162
given that the new one has 100% faster ssd, 100% faster igpu and you are not memory limited, it's clearly the better deal at $1.5k

Agree with base fellow anons. When apple dropped Nvidia and went AMD fail shit went to crap.

Some advice here guys. Should I wait to see if there are any offers on blackfriday? Like maybe refurbished or the 2015 ones? I've never bought a computer on blackfriday so I wanna know if waiting might be worth it, or if I should just snag one ASAP. I'm in no rush so I can wait I believe
>>
>>57327525

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WITH AUDIO PRODUCTION IS PORTS...

LET THAT SINK IN...
>>
>>57333109
Apple doesn't do black friday.
Other retailers do, but BTO configs are rare.

fucking amateurs.
pros always used lots of adapters and never minded.
>>
>>57327525
why is this shit thread on /g/? fuck off to >>>/lgbt/ or >>>/adv/
>>
>>57328288
And you will have to spend 10 hours daily to maintain the hackintosh machine.
>>
>>57333136
Oh ok, yeah I figured apple wouldn't. 'Tis my first year actually buying things on Blackfriday here in America. Thanks matey.
