Just getting into battery powered electronics

Can pic related also relay data?
It would be stupid to have one micro usb for charging only and then another for data only, I want them consolidated to one port

nothing, it still appears on top of the board

I wanted to use OSX's native Disk Utility application to make a bootable USB with BunsenLabs Linux on it. I did this all the time on Lion, but now I'm on Sierra and they changed the DU app completely and I can't make it do shit. Google-fu only gets me instructions on making Bootable OSX USB's, which is useless to me.

What do?

Not without modification, from the schematic it shows only the 5V and GND connected on the micro USB, so you could possibly tack on cables to the D+/D- lines off the back of the connector.

El Capitan Disk Utility is shit, you can download a patched version of the proper Yosemite one here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/files/file/480-disk-utility-patched-v2/

Or just use unetbootin, it'll probably work.

I'm having trouble laying down the parts needed for a CPU+GPU watercooled build.

I have absouletly no idea where to start.

Any feedback on this build appriciated
>>
>>57244802
You should be using top end components before you even consider custom loop water cooling.
>>
should i install windows 8.1 ? Can I make it look like win 7 ? Is it faster?
>>
>>57244873
What doesn't look top end?

I already own the 980
>>
>>57244973
Pretty much everything
You'd be better off spending the cost of a water cooling setup on a new GPU.
>>
>>57244802
Most non-reference video cards don't have waterblocks made for them. You're better off getting a reference GPU.

You'll need:
>cpu waterblock
>gpu waterblock
>Reservoir (you can get these with built in pumps)
>pump (I recommend a D5 pump)
>fittings
>radiator(s)
>tubing
>distilled water + dye (optional)

Just letting you know now, watercooling makes almost no difference to performance. It'll make your parts run a bit cooler so they might last longer, and you might get a little more overclocking headroom, that's it. For these meagre benefits it costs a shitload of money and an even bigger shitload of time, not to mention that for it to run smoothly you'll need regular maintenance and bi-yearly drain/flush/refill.
If you want a 'silent rig' then don't touch watercooling, you're better off just having a massive tower cooler and fans that only come on if the temps are high.
Don't bother with motherboard or RAM watercooling either, that's just for idiots who want to show off.

A general guide to radiators is to have 1x 120mm/140mm radiator per component you're cooling. So in your case you just want one 240mm/280mm radiator.

You will need 8 fittings (2 for cpu, 2 for gpu, 2 for rad, 2 for res/pump combo), but I would recommend buying a few spare
Compression fittings look nice with the screw on sleeve etc but barb fittings are functional and cheaper.
Don't forget to match the diameter of your fittings to the diameter of your tubing
It would make your life easier to have a valve at the bottom of the loop for easy draining.
Use flexible tubing, hard tubing is again for showoffs only and a huge pain to work with.
Dye's can gunk up over time and leave a gummy residue in your water blocks, reducing performance. Red dye in particular is famous for this.

There are millions of guides on youtube about how to assemble and fill a liquid loop, go nuts.

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -an -c:v libvpx -ss 00:00:00.000 -t 00:00:05.000 -vf scale=500:-1 -b:v 4500K -maxrate:v 4500K -bufsize 2100K -rc_init_occupancy 3000K -fs 22528 -metadata title="test" -lag-in-frames 16 -auto-alt-ref 1 -quality best -qcomp 1 -threads 3 -slices 8 output.webm

but it only encodes a single frame and stops. This is just for 4chan, what am I doing wrong?

I don't really know about -rc_int_occupancy and -bufsize, I just pput a similar file in webm for retards and looked at what arguments it made up. how do I go about calculating them?

For example, let's say your base password is p@1nk0lo0, and this is for your Google account.

just basic

for audio rip:

for conversion

zero quality loss this way

with such a specific bitrate, it looks more like you just want a specific output filesize, in that case, you should use 2-pass VBR, not CBR

also consider "-quality good -cpu-used 1" instead of "-quality best", from the use of "-threads 3", it seems you're using a rather low end cpu, so these will speed it up a lot without being too much worse

you still need to specify a bitrate, this becomes the average bitrate over the whole video when doing 2-pass

the idea is you get your specific average, like with CBR, but also it has the advantage of adjusting the bitrate according to content, for a more consistent quality, like VBR/CRF

I want a bigger monitor. I didn't before using my friends for a week, but now 20 inches just seems so small.

I see lots of 4k monitors in the sub $500 range that seem to be all good in the specs department.

My question is, if I primarily run 1920x1080 content primarily, how would a 4k monitor affect that? Or should I just stick with 1920x1080.

On FF44 and longer YouTube comments are cut off. On top of this, clicking View All Replies does not load comments. Comments are fine on verified channels for some reason. I do have ABP and updating the filters does nothing, so I suspect that a filter is the cause of this.

for video it's fine as the scaling wont be annoying if you're not too close to the monitor.

for gaming you'd need hardware to play on that resolution, or use a lower res and upscale which could look weird, or play with black borders.

I am thinking about learning COBOL. I see there's a couple of offers in my area, and I guess they also pay pretty well.

It also doesn't seem very difficult to learn, so worst case scenario, I'm not risking much.

>>
How do I learn to code?

Emphasis on the "learn" part. I keep trying like a retard but there seems to be just something I'm not getting.

Am I supposed to just memorize the vocabulary and interactions? What mindset should I be approaching this with? It's not like I'm shown a hammer, then shown what it does, and then my mind is filled with ideas. I'm looking at what these tutorials are giving me and not seeing how it all fits together, and thus as I keep going I'm having a broken foundation which eventually puts me in "what the fuck am I reading" mode. Usually happens shortly after basic loops.

Conceptually I can understand (roughly) how things work as they'd relate to physical machines or recipes or whatever, but actually getting into the coding is confusing as shit.

Also, I don't understand how to practice coding. I keep seeing it related to "solving problems" and doing that as practice, but I rarely have such problems. Most things I would like to code are horribly out of reach of near-starting skills from what I understand. Is this a lack of understanding how to apply things, or a lack of ideas?

It's like I'm missing some integral knowledge, mindset, understanding, or something, and if I could just work out what it is then I'd be pretty OK.

I'm one of those retards who normies think is good with computers just through having used them for long enough that I can work out how to unstuck other peoples' shit, but I'd like to be better than that.
>>
>>57249410
Just find yourself a project, something that really interests you and work on it. You have tons of information, most of the time it's even pretty good quality knowledge.
Just work on it, make mistakes, learn how to overcome these mistakes (bonus points for not repeating them).
Just find something you're sure you are going to finish.
If you really can't find anything then maybe it's not for you. Programming isn't about anything else but finding interesting problems and solving them.

Maybe I'm not seeing problems where problems may be? I'm not sure. Most problems I solve outside the PC realm tend to be productivity related or comparing costs of items before purchasing. The former I don't think I could use programs for simply due to the fact that if I were, I'd have to basically write an entire research paper to figure out the numbers. The latter would take a lot of time to set up, and the lack of constants or complex formulae would just result in slowing down my math instead of improving it.

But that's actually the sideline to the main issue: I'm attempting to overcome the main mistake I have which is getting lost while learning, but I'm not sure the solution. I get into a "what the fuck am I reading?" spot too early on to really make anything with.

2 stupid C++ questions:

Given:
template <typename T> class BinarySearchTree
{
protected:
class Node
{
public:
Node(void);
Node(T const*);
~Node(void);

private:
T* data;
Node *left, *right;
};

public:
BinarySearchTree(void);
~BinarySearchTree(void);

bool contains(T const*);
bool insert(T const*);
bool remove(T const*);
};

template <typename T> class AVLTree : public BinarySearchTree<T>
{
public:
AVLTree(void);
~AVLTree(void);

bool insert(T const*);
bool remove(T const*);
};

1. Will the private members of the Node class (data, left, right) be accessible to AVLTree, despite being private?

2. In general, how C++ handle inheritance with templates?

I remember reading a warning about doing it years ago on SO but I couldn't remember or find the article. I just seem to recall there being a catch.

Thanks in advance.

Floating point have a sign bit.
Integers can be two complement, meaning negative numbers are represented as high values so you can still add and subtract.
Make a small application where you write different data types to a file and read it with a hex editor.
This is also a good way to learn about endianess.

Somehow I managed to solve the problem, but I'd an explanation on what actually happened in case it happens again and if I should expect my current drive to die in the near future.

Basically my laptop is booting into the Automatic Repair/"Repairing disk errors this may take over an hour" screens, but it's been 4 hours and it's still allegedly repairing the errors. Based on some searches I've done, people have had the same issue where it's lasted days or weeks on the same screen. I went into the BIOS and set it to boot to a USB with Xubuntu on it, and instead of running Xubuntu, I chose the option to check the disk for errors. It loads into the Xubuntu start-up screen and starts checking the disk, and finally returns that there are no disk errors. Upon restarting it booted me back up into Windows without taking me to the Automatic Repair screen and everything appeared to be fine.

My question is: Is this indicative that my hard drive is failing and that I need to backup everything now. If yes, is a simple image back up fine, or should I try to clone everything instead? Also, what would cause windows to think the disk has errors, but would not cause Xubuntu to recognize those errors?

For some background: I'm using a toaster-tier laptop running Windows 8 that I only use to play a single game on, for which I have to do a light overclock of the GPU to actually be able to play. The hard drive failed 3 years ago about 6 months after I bought it, so I sent it back to the manufacturer to be repaired and it's been more or less working ever since. However, I can't turn it off because it frequently requires multiple restarts to even load Windows, 90% of the restarts just load into the manufacturer's load-in screen and stays there.

And it turns out nothing was fixed. Booted into the regular log-in screen, let me log in, then froze. For whatever reason Ctrl+Alt+Del worked so I started into the screen that gives you the option to restart/troubleshoot/etc. So I used that to open up the cmd prompt and ran chkdsk /f C:, which led to the detection of a corrupt attribute record (128, "") and that corrupted attribute was deleted.

It's still running chkdsk /f, but I'm guessing it's safe to say that I need to make backups of all the important data ASAP?

What's wrong? Is the file too large (it's 80 GB) to download with one seeder (I am the only one seeding the file)?

Personal preference, I like external drives since I don't have to open up my computer to plug them in. I think internal drives are cheaper though, I probably should have bought one of those instead.

they don't really make HDDs that small anymore. There's some fixed overhead that goes into making a drive, so once the price of a drive would drop below the level where they can make some money on it they stop making that capacity. With desktop HDDs 1TB is about the minimum these days.

Is there any way to check to make sure a graphics card is slotted into the MB properly, aside from the obvious of "it uses the graphic card's graphics instead of the motherboard's integrated graphics"?

w-what? it's an i7 with 4 cores, I read you use the number of real cores -1 to speed it up.
>>
>>57256600
libvpx only encodes with 1 core.

Anyway, you should use a bit rate of 4,900kbit/s instead of 4,700.

Formula for figuring maximum bitrate in a 4chan webm:

3,072 * 8 / [length of video in seconds.miliseconds rounded to nearest hundred].
>>
>>57256632
ok thanks I was going just under because when i was using WFR if you put a 3mb filesize it would always wind up slightly over.

Also I'm brand new to terminal commands. In order to enter both the passes at once i copied pasted a bunch arguments of someone else ffmpeg arguments

so it's currently

ffmpeg -i test.mkv -an -c:v libvpx -ss 00:00:00.000 -t 00:00:15.000 -vf scale=900:-1 -metadata title="test" -lag-in-frames 0 -auto-alt-ref 1 -quality best -qcomp 0 -slices 8 -b:v 1500k -bufsize 1500 -crf 10 -f webm -pass 1 /dev/null && \
ffmpeg -i test.mkv -an -c:v libvpx -ss 00:00:00.000 -t 00:00:15.000 -vf scale=900:-1 -metadata title="test" -lag-in-frames 0 -auto-alt-ref 1 -quality best -qcomp 0 -slices 8 -b:v 1500k -bufsize 1500 -crf 10 -pass 2 12.webm

the /dev/null && \ part seems to make it work. I understand the /dev/null prevents error messages from showing, is it the && \ that allows multiple lines to be entered at once? Why the dev/null/?
>>
So do I have to run memtest the program on win 10 or should I just use memory diagnostics
>>
>>57256690
You've got a lot of junk arguments and parameters in there. When I encode 2pass webms for maximum quality I simply do this:

ffmpeg -ss XXX -i XXX -an -sn - vcodec libvpx -t XXX -s XXX*XXX -crf XXX -b:v XXX -pass 1 -f webm NUL && (rinse and repeat)

You really don't need to specify things like bufsize, slices and -quality for a webm. That's just autism.
>>
>>57256742
all thanks mate

I normally make webms of video game captures, lots of stuff happening on screen at once and that seems to tank the quality, so I was trying to squeeze the most out of it.
>>
>>57256799
At some point you just need to sacrifice resolution to improve the quality. An 854*480 video with 500k bitrate is going to look better than a 1280*720 video at 500k.
>>
>>57256483
Yea did this and got mouse a kB support back and also found the option to allow mouse use during keyboard os install finally but now having this option turned on won't let my USB be read properly.

PC master race amirite
>>
>>57256799
Also there's one extra argument that is worth using in terms of quality benefit and that's
-preset

It goes from ultrafast all the way down to placebo. Placebo is much slower than even the next fastest setting (veryslow) and only improves quality by about 3% but if you want maximum quality that's the way to go.

The most I could surmise is that OFDM 54 means 54 Mbps.
My router specifically is an ASUS RT-N66U apparently capable of up to 450Mbps, for my issue apparently even 300Mbps is too much and I would want to reduce this to something like 145Mbps.

Really, I feel like this should not be allowed. Is there any way to avoid this in AIMP?

Anybody know a place where you can find older runtime drivers for the Oculus DK2? The other day I updated to the latest version to check out their Oculus Home hub thingie, then had to discover that it's impossible to roll back to older versions because the official oculus site ONLY has the latest runtime driver which happens to be not fully compatible with the DK2 AND fully incompatible with like all of the games I got here, especially Euro Truck sim 2. Goddamn I'm mad right now...

That's exactly what I'm not going to do. Maybe Valve next time. Regardless, I don't want to sit on bricked hardware which I paid good money for.

Is it OK to buy a used video card

Is there a program on windows xp that shuts down the computer after 15 min of inactivity instead of stand by? I'm interested in something that prevents shutdown when watching a movie or downloading a file.

You might get lucky, but I'd never buy used stuff like a GPU or CPU because you wouldn't know if the previous owner overclocked them and reduced their lifetime.

below a certain point it becomes no cheaper for them to make

why produce a lower-capacity single-platter drive if it costs the same as a larger-capacity single-platter drive to make?

just get a 1TB drive, and partition off 500GB, it will end up being faster overall than a real 500GB hdd, as hdd speed/response times drop off as you move towards the end, a 500GB partition on a 1TB drive means you only get half way through the disk

you could also opt for a laptop/2.5" hdd if you like, though they are slower than their desktop counterparts in general, and usually cost a bit more per GB as well, so it might not even be cheaper to get a 500GB 2.5" over a 1TB 3.5"
