Asked in another thread but didn't get a reply. Where can I get cheap-ish decent custom cables? I need a 2ft USB-A>Micro-B with white paracord sleeving. The pastebin lists Pexon PCs, but it's like £14 plus extras and shipping.

Most of them come with black Alps switches and are more tactile then anything cherry has to offer. They are better built then the vast majority of keyboards and they usually sell for under $50 so do go for it.

If you don't like the noise of bucklesprings you can actually dampen them by packing the spring with grease or a small length of string.

Yo I know this is probably the dumbest buyers template you've seen in a while but remember ripping anon a new one doesn't make him leave faster.

>Budget
$150
>Location (continent at least)
East coast USA
>Preferred switch type
None in particular. I've only used cherry MX blue (and Razer's copy of them) before regularly but I'd be open to considering similar ones.
>Layout
ANSI
>Form factor
100% or tenkeyless + separate numpad. Numpad and ins,delete,pgup/down are necessary. So are all function keys.
>Backlight
Preferred yes but not in crazy colors and not entirely necessary.
>Previous/current keyboards
Razer blackwidow 2014 (please don't fuck me up) and some corsair one with MX blues. Too long ago to remember specifics.
>>
>>57131936
If you like tactile clicky switches then maybe consider greens they are heavier then blues at 80g of force compared to blues 50g.
Unfortunately this is the only one I was able to find in stock at the moment (and the LEDs aren't that bad, I have the same keyboard too)
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1944

Now If you want an even more tactile option then consider matias switches. There aren't that many options compared to cherry, but they are still fun to type on

If you want something unique then you could go for a buckling spring keyboard. Unicomp sells them new for 80 bucks or you can get some used on ebay.

Buckling springs are the only switch where the tactile feedback and click happen at the exact moment of actuation. No other switch does that, which gives them a unique feel. They style of the keyboard may not be for all, but it much more enjoyable to type on in my opinion

This came in today, my first mechanical:

https://www.amazon.ca/MechanicalEagle-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-Switches/dp/B01I1N6N3U/

Feels real nice. There's quite a bit of pinging on some of the keys, though, especially when they're released. From what I've read this seems to be common on Cherry style switches with a metal plate between the pcb and switches?

For 45$ I'm happy with it.

Do any of you know any IBM Model M sellers who ship to Brazil for cheap?

I've scoured local places and came up with nothing.
>>
>>57134065
Shipping is the least of your problems. I'd say email them and tell them to mark the package as a gift, then declare the value of the item to be low.
>>
>>57134117
I'm not too worried about taxes, since many sellers will mark it low, but shipping is pretty much unavoidable. Everyone on eBay wants at least 100 US for shipping, which is impossible.

Gateron PBT is 1.5mm thicc, which is the standard for thicc keycaps, so probably the same as NPKC

The thing is that I'm from Norway so import taxes are a pain in the arse. Is assdrop willing to like write a price like let's say 15 dollars on the box so that I don't have to pay import taxes? I'm pretty sure UK-keycaps do that if you ask.

I type heavily (piano player, autist), I currently have a K70 with MX blue switches. Not quite heavy enough. I was going to order something with green switches, but now I'm seeing that greens are imprecise. Are clears the way to go?

If you want something heavy, clicky and accurate then get buckling springs. They cost $84 brand new on Unicomp's website. Clears aren't clicky.

>>57130108
Max keyboard has a set, but they're expensive as fuck. Take the stock keycaps, or get some backlight laser etched keycaps, and sand off the tops. Then polish them. Make sure you keep track of which key goes where when you're doing it, and don't sand them down too much. At the end, you'll have the blank white/semitransparent plastic on top with black sides.

what do people think of this razer low profile bluetooth mechanical keyboard. it's for the ipad pro 12.9". i've never tried it, but i find it interesting. i'd like to see something like this in a slim ultrabook or something. a laptop that doesn't weigh 7 pounds with a mechanical keyboard would be desirable, wouldn't it?
>>
>>57143132
While I'm fairly sure that we won't be involved in the next world war (which seems to be just around the corner), I don't think it'll be due to the topographical nature of our country. Invading Switzerland wouldn't be particularly difficult, sure you'd have those mountainous areas, but those aren't very populated and would only serve as a recluse for soldiers, who in turn would get demoralized quite quickly since the whole civilian population would be under enemy occupation.

The only reason we didn't get invaded in WWII is because we were already kissing the asses of the Nazis and they had better things to conquer first.

About as easy as it'd be on any either keyboard that uses discrete switches, e. g. not very difficult at all, just a bit time consuming.

Cooler master makes good entry level boards in various layouts, check if you can find any of those. Rapidfire for TKL and Quickfire XT for full-size is what you'd be looking for.

Yes. As long as you're dealing with cherry or cherry clones, that'll all be the same.

>How much does it cost to build your own, if you try to keep it cheap?
Let's see

>teensy clone from china: 5$
>wire and diodes: 5$
>laser cut plate: 30$ upwards, depends on where you source it
>plastic or wood for a case: 20$ or less
>switches: 25$ upwards, depends on what and how many switches you use

I'm bad at a math so you can calculate the total of that.
You can also find various DIY kits that have all the parts you need on aliexpress.

>>

you can use them for macros

Do the non backlit ones have swappable switches? I can only see that listed on the backlit one.

No idea about the G610, but I own a MasterKeys Pro S, and it has pretty great build quality and a standard layout, so I had no trouble getting new keycaps for it. It also does have media shortcuts, but they're not dedicated keys, but FN+Home/End/Ins/Del, plus FN+PgUp/PgDn for volume.

You can barely tell which keyboard it even is, because there is just some CoolerMaster branding on the WinKeys, which you can just replace, and I like the really simple clean black housing. If you're planning to replace the keys, it would probably look a bit odd with the media keys you can't change and the Logitech logo, but that's up to you.

Filco Minila Air or HHKB BT.
Best wireless mech is the Filco Convertible 2 but its only TKL or full size
>>
>>57150584
but those aren't silent, they are pretty loud compared to membranes
>>
>>57150527
They seem to be plate-mount on mine so I'd assume so; they included spare switches too.

>>57150619
get some fucking o-rings then
>>
Stabilizers on my spacebar are making a terrible screech.
Anything I can do without disassembling the whole board?

Awesome, thanks

If you're looking for rubberdome levels of quiet with those specs literally your only option is a Matias Secure Pro
>>
Are there any brands that you guys recommend specifically? Also how important do you think backlight is for keyboards.
>>
>>57151378
Ducky is a good mid range brand. If you want something cheaper then CM is another option.
I really don't care about back lights since my monitor provides ample light when everything else is turned off. Plus you really should be touch typing as it helps reduce fatigue. This is a good sight to learn:

I'd say backlight is pretty much just for aesthetics, because you won't be looking at your keyboard while typing anyway. The only times I ever do it is for symbols I use rarely, but apart from that, the backlight is just for it to look cool.

Thanks. Iv been looking at the ducky ones. I guess its time to be able to type comfortable without looking at my keyboard. I thought i wanted back light.

Do you think i should get a full keyboard with the numpad and everything or can i get away with not having a numpad.

Depends what you're using it for. If you don't do any number crunching, a TKL is great. The smaller size just looks better IMO, saves space on your desk, and also helps on not needing to open up your arms to use the keyboard and mouse. If you do type numbers, even if semi regularly, the numpad is really helpful, and using the number row is slow and kind of a pain. The numpad may also be helpful if you play MMOs and stuff like that.

I personally just use my keyboard to shitpost and play vidya, and when I am working, I very rarely do any number typing on the programs I use like Photoshop, so a TKL is perfect.

>>
>>57152021
Can confirm, I don't use the number pad too often but I am happy to have it when I do use it, was worth it just for those scenarios. If I didn't use it I would definitely forgo because it uses a lot of desk space
>>
>>57152001
Cherry blues should not feel hard to press. They're lighter than most rubberdome and chicklet keyboards.
>>
>>57152021
il be going to college next year for either Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering so il probably get one with the numpad then. Im sure il be using numbers in both of those.

Thanks for all the help.

the whole point of the keyboard is that it splits, but if for some reason you want it as a whole then you can
>>
>>57151948
>>57152282

For me, I really prefer having the mouse basically right where the numpad is. I had a few classes that used Matlab pretty heavily. I just got a USB numpad and used that on the left side. I use it for dwarf fortress too.
Unfortunately, it's not mechanical, but I guess you can't have everything (unless you're rich enough to have one of those extremely rare Japanese buckling spring separate numpads. Or, hmm. Maybe I could get a unicomp keyboard and saw off the numpad and run it on a teensy or something).

Actually it was a while ago that I bought it, they might have USB numpads with cherries or alps switches in it now.
>>
>>57152032
I think they're called desk mats. Though I've actually seen them called just mouse pads before, even though they're that huge.
Somebody on /csg/ got one with a NES/Famicom controller pattern.
I've seen them on massdrop too.
>>
>>57154225
i never even considered a usb numpad. It wouldnt be too big of a deal if its not mechanical.

By chance do you know if Rosewill makes good mechanical keyboards?
>>
>>57154350
I've used a rosewill rk9000 with blues for 5 years now, it's been fine

I did read about a later revision to the board that added a removable cable that caused some problems but idk if that has been fixed in the latest version of the keyboards, I think they're on the 3rd or 4th generation since I got mine, might have RGB by now or something.
>>
>>57152032
They're called 'extended mousepads' because they're..you know..bigass mousepads.
I actually got two but the other one is too edgy for my tastes.
