Seems like the switches are a sharper version of the Cherry blues, so not as "refined"

Not the same magicforce that reviewers on YT and other sites have been showing. The plate is real metal, not some cheapo plastic, but doesn't have the "diamond-cut" edge around the plate, just a more matte finish.

I guess I can understand since USB buffering is often confused with key rollover.
2KRO indicates a problem with ghosting and blocking, which occurs when certain combinations of 3 or more keys are pressed simultaneously (it's 2 key rollover because only two alphanumeric keys are guaranteed to work simultaneously though some combinations of more keys will work). That's why Model Ms are imperfect for gaming, because that's almost the only time you'd be pressing that many alphanumeric keys at the same time (modifier keys get their own channel).

It has nothing to do with how rapidly you enter keypresses (unless you fat finger it and leave your finger resting on the key or something dumb like that), which can only theoretically be a problem with shoddy USB keyboard implementations that can't buffer your keystrokes fast enough. Since Model M is PS/2, it cannot suffer this problem.

Yeah, I've tried a Tai-Hao Miami set on it, and it feels a lot better. I'm using it as a "travel" board, so if it gets fucked up, I don't have to worry about replacing the keycaps or the board itself.

Cheapfag here. I am soon getting a Havit HV-KB378L (Basically a cheap chinese RGB mechanical keyboard with knockoff Cherry MX switches (Listed as Gaote/Outemu)). Once I get it I'll be happy to answer any questions. It's basically impossible to find any other fully RGB + mechanical board at this price so I figured I'd say what the hell and give it a shot. I'm not expecting anything amazing but who knows.

Its 80g, but the mechanism is different then a cherry or membrane since the tactile feedback and click happen at the exact moment of actuation. It is the only mechanical switch that does that.

I don't really have a lot of experince with keycaps, they seem okayish.
They're not very thick. The sides are smooth and somewhat glossy (but the tops are perfectly rough and you can't feel the edges with the second plastic)
The >_ key should be PBT while others ABS, but they look and feel identical and I don't know any methods of telling plastics apart that wouldn't result in their destruction.

Got an m800 for free. Custom caps are nice, but key placement isn't the best for typing. Gaming is great though.

All in all, glad I didn't spend any actual money on it, as there are far better mechanical keyboards out there for a lot less, but it was a nice upgrade to my Apex membrane gaymen keybaord.

It has cheap poor quality keycaps and a non standard layout so replacing them is a pain (pic related), and the LEDs are cheap too so they are prone to failure. Its overpriced compared to the competition, but if you can get it for really cheap then you can go for it.
I would recommend you buy a Chinese clone like E-element since it has similar build quality, but with a standard layout and much cheaper.

Response time in PS/2 vs. USB is not really humanly noticeable. The only major difference is that most keyboards only support 6KRO over USB and NKRO over PS/2 although I can't imagine why you would want to press over six keys at the same time.

You won't be hitting more than 5 keys with your left hand unless you're a mutant.

Also the USB spec covers 6 keys AND modifiers so shift/ctrl/alt don't count against the six, meaning you can potentially have 9 pressed keys in the WASD area.

Also2.0 many gayman keyboards have gotten around the USB keyboard HID limitation entirely by enumerating to the underlying OS as multiple keyboards in one device, or as a non-keyboard device that supports 104 simultaneous button presses and happens to behave exactly like a keyboard.

PS/2 is interrupt-driven and therefore immediate, but if you have a USB keyboard with a polling rate of 1000Hz that's a maximum delay of ONE MILLISECOND and you'd be delusional if you thought that made any difference. Virtually all gaming keyboards poll at 1000Hz by default.

The ideal switch for that is a buckling spring because it provides feedback at the exact moment of actuation, resets immediately when backed off and has zero hystersis... but there are no buckling spring gaming keyboards and the Model Ms are all 2KRO.

Linears like reds can repeat rapidly, but without any feedback you'd have to train yourself and rely on muscle memory to float the key on the actuation point.

Tactiles are actually easy to float for rapid presses once you understand where the actuation point is. On cherry switches, it's right after the tactile bump.

So for example on browns you press down past the bump and then feel for it coming back up and float the key around that point. It's easier to feel on clears, and since you don't actually ride all the way back over the bump the added tactile resistance on a clear switch only affects the first keypress.

Not him, but the build quality is probably fine enough, but that's because making a board with decent build quality is not something that costs a whole lot of money. 40 bucks chinkboards come with metal plates that don't have any flex to them, so that corsair boards are considered "solid" isn't exactly surprising.

Corsair has a track record of issues with its keyboards though, mostly with the LEDs and their software. A quick search of the term "corsair led issues" should give you enough sources for that.

On top of that, the bottom row is non-standard.

It's not that corsair keyboards are absolutely terrible keyboards that will set your house on fire, but given the price, bottom row and track record, there's really no reason to get one when ducky and other brands offer better keyboards at similar prices.

I want a 104 with Cherry MX Clears for as close to 150 as possible. I hear quality on WAS CODE keyboards ain't super great but that might be from the perspective of some snooty pendantic bastard. I am not so particular. I have a Corsair K70 with browns right now and I miss my tactile bump and the space bar on this thing is all CLANG-CLANG-CLANG and it drives me nuts.

Rantopad fag here, apparently they came out with a new version (called MXX black) that fixed all of my gripes with the original.

Now come with standard keycaps instead of the retarded ones, you can disable the logo LED and it comes in black. However they removed gateron switches and replaced them with cherry mx. What the fuck man. This keyboard is so close to being perfect and they fucking remove that juicy gateron linear smoothness.

Anon was mostly being complete for full correctness' sake. Most keyboards, especially if they offer NKRO, do not have a native PS/2 compatible controller. These kinds of keyboards only even existed to use up stocks of old PS/2 based keyboard control chips, not because that delay matters.
It is extremely unlikely that the Ducky One is one of these keyboards.

Because that's only the polling rate delay, which is completely swamped by other delays in the system. From mechanical actuation just to the keyboard controller registering a button press is a minimum of 5ms. Mechanical actuation to host acceptance of press is usually more than 30ms, whether it's from a USB or PS/2 keyboard.

The full input circuit logic of whatever game you're playing probably only processes in average 100ms chunks.

And to put that in context, you need to understand that the world record for human reaction speed (optical stimulus to button press I believe) is something like 190ms. Average is higher than 250ms, and that's among athletes, which is likely higher than the general population.

Telling the difference in that delay is going to require something like specialized hardware.

Look, I understand the urge to make sure that even if you can't detect it, to know that you've absolutely minimized every possible source of error or delay in something you're using (an urge that is literally a symptom of autism). But the preoccupation with the fact that USB works by polling and PS/2 by interrupt is silly, given that any potential difference is swamped by other delays in the system (including your nervous system).

I like them a lot, but consensus is that you'll either really like them or you'll hate them.

They're sort of similar to browns but the tactile bump is much more pronounced and they have both a shorter actuation distance and are lighter.

If you want something good, either you gotta get something on AliExpress like that other anon suggested, and ask for the chinks to label it as gift and undervalue the item on the label, so you have less trouble with customs, and if you do you pay less, or probably just try to get something from Amazon, since they ship stuff internationally, though you do need to make a tax deposit.

I wouldn't buy the Poseidon ZX. I know a friend who had one, and in less than a year, a couple of his keys were either sticking really badly, or just straight up not working.

The spacebar I received was warped and didn't fit correctly. I've tried blow drying it for a few minutes with weights on it, but it didn't do much.

What do with my first gen Das Keyboard that has sticky switches on them (bought used for $25). Instead of trying to replace the switches, I opted to get a corsair strafe for $20 before I pick up a type heaven but I do want to keep this das around while not spending money on one of the newer ones (that i personally think don't look good with any of the media shit) and wouldn't mind buying switch replacements alongside the type heaven.

Don't buy boards form Razer, Corsair, WASD, or China. Other than that you're good.

some brands like corsair and razer charge more for their name despite other competitors offering similar features for a cheaper cost. Good brands do matter since they have warranties and plenty of support lines if anything goes wrong. A good mid range brand would be Ducky. Their keyboards sell for around 90-110 dollars (except for the RGB ones those are an extra 20)

Non-standard bottom row is the biggest reason. Can't comment on the actual quality of the boards because I've never typed on one but I've never heard anything good about them. Plus they look like shit.

I did get a Corsair STRAFE for the silent switches, which feels really nice to play with, the thing was, it's not really the keyboard I would've preferred, but it's the only affordable one with silent switches I could get.

I think the barebones are pretty good if you're already planning on changing out the keycaps. No need to buy a board with caps that you're just going to set aside.

Speaking of which, I've discovered a fairly simple solution to worn Hi-Tek switches binding.

As you may or may not know, Hi-Teks that have seen a lot of use or have been used in industrial settings have a tendency to get roughed up and this causes them to be less smooth, to the point where they can bind up when you press the bottom edge of the keycap where the switch has a lot of surface contact between halves of the housing. Meanwhile the other side has low surface contact so they don't bind when pressed on the other side. This is largely a problem for Row 4 since the sloped cap profile lends to hitting the raised bottom edge.

The solution: The switches are symmetrical and the keycaps will attach in either direction. Resolder the R4 switches upside-down, with the "mouth" of the space invader towards the top of the keyboard. The smoother side of the switch is now where it's more likely to be pressed.

Been using the Secret for the past year with their flipper mouse matt. I would says its the nicest mouse I have used the only problem I have is that if it powers up before my pc is on then I have to unplug and replug it back in or it wont be detected.
