>What are startpages?
Startpages (in the context of this thread) are locally hosted webpages (as in, the files are on your computer - not a server somewhere) that serve as the homepage or new tab page for a browser. They generally contain some number of links to frequently visited sites as the main element; search bars, clocks, calendars and other embedded items are usually added as secondary elements.

Never said your can't just suggested the most likely course of action people are gonna take.
>>57124872
Why would you host a startpage externally? If it's local it will load way faster and if you need it on another machine just transfer the files.

I wrote that as an introduction to people who are completely new to the idea. If you're capable of running a separate server to host the page, you don't need the guide in the first place. You can see it's pulled out of the FAQ if you open it.
Though I will say the FAQ isn't ideal and I was meaning to rewrite it, I did it pretty hastily at like 3 AM.
>>57125035
That's basically hosting it locally, though...
Who /Startpage as startpage/ here?
nice thread

Why the fuck are they called "Startpages", now? What happened to "Homepages"?
Also, mine

So, why are we calling them "Startpages" instead of "Homepages", since... that's what they are..?
Or am I missing some kind of specific difference?
>>57125501
idk dude i just called them startpages because the thread was called stpg-css when I wrote that.
i don't think it really matters. maybe it helps with disambiguation from "homescreen" ????

>>57125520
Eh, I disagree, since 'Homescreen' and 'Homepage' shouldn't be confused in the first place.
Not to say people won't post wrongly in the thread anyway, because they're assholes (like I'll post a desktop in a Homescreen thread if I'm feeling like showing it off), but it's not really something you can confuse easily
But whatever... These spontaneous changes in names is retarded, either way
>>57125525
>u baka do u not know how greentext works
Yes, and it can be used EITHER to quote another user OR to show that you DID something, much like *[action]* is used in chat rooms.

That's really nice.
Did you just use JS+jQ, and CSS3 for those effects?
Or did you use other libraries? If so, which?
I'd like to look into them
Shit kinda feels cluttered but I like the info.
Collapse all, or wrap shit in a div and collapse that?
Why take this out of wg?

This is /g/, not reddit. Startpages have been a thing from way back.

It's like they forgot the idea originated here.
