Please avoid using the term “google” as a verb, meaning to search for something on the internet. “Google” is just the name of one particular search engine among others. Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Publishers often refer to copying they don't approve of as “piracy.” In this way, they imply that it is ethically equivalent to attacking ships on the high seas, kidnapping and murdering the people on them. Based on such propaganda, they have procured laws in most of the world to forbid copying in most (or sometimes all) circumstances. (They are still pressuring to make these prohibitions more complete.)

If you don't believe that copying not approved by the publisher is just like kidnapping and murder, you might prefer not to use the word “piracy” to describe it. Neutral terms such as “unauthorized copying” (or “prohibited copying” for the situation where it is illegal) are available for use instead. Some of us might even prefer to use a positive term such as “sharing information with your neighbor.”

I blew away my Windows completely and replaced it with Ubuntu Mate.
As a result I began to get no bootable devices found error, so I enabled Secure Boot and manually set up the efi to boot into Ubuntu.
Unfortunately third party drivers (such as wifi) do not work in secure boot, but if I turn off secure boot I just get no bootable devices error again.
What the fuck am I supposed to do?

i haven't tried any other modern amd gpu, or any amd gpu actually
i moved to this one a couple years ago, and before that i used an nvidia card, whose proprietary driver was a pita, and the free nvidia driver just wasn't good enough (which is why i got this amd card)
before that they were called ati cards, funnily enough, the first installation of linux i did back in 2004 was on an ati mobility radeon (forget which model)

It's an ARM chromebook (so don't expect any performance from it whatsoever) but it's extremely easy to reflash it with libreboot.

Some of the programs Kali ships need specific kernel patches. Installing them alone will not provide full functionality.

>You don't install kali, it's meant to be used as a live image
No it isn't, it's available as VM images and regular install images.

>Kali is a lot less secure than most other distros. It isn't meant to be used as an everyday desktop distro.
Not true. Kali is secure in the same way as other distros. You may claim "it comes with root by default" - so come many other distros. Nothing prevents you from creating a user and use it as main OS.

Unity is working on port. Help their beta: https://forum.unity3d.com/threads/unity-on-linux-release-notes-and-known-issues.350256/

Unreal engine is officially supported as well but you need to build from source on git. Easy enough though, they have step by step copy and paste instructions. Just make sure you have all the prereqs installed.

Alternatively there are lots of older engines OGRE3D, CUBE engine and some of the ID software engines are open source. Blender has it's game engine but that has practically abandoned by the devs.

>Well, Linux Mint is generally very bad when it comes to security and quality.

>First of all, they don't issue any Security Advisories, so their users cannot - unlike users of most other mainstream distributions [1] - quickly lookup whether they are affected by a certain CVE.

>Secondly, they are mixing their own binary packages with binary packages from Debian and Ubuntu without rebuilding the latter. This creates something that we in Debian call a "FrankenDebian" which results in system updates becoming unpredictable [2]. With the result, that the Mint developers simply decided to blacklist certain packages from upgrades by default thus putting their users at risk because important security updates may not be installed.

>Thirdly, while they import packages from Ubuntu or Debian, they hi-jack package and binary names by re-using existing names. For example, they called their fork of gdm2 "mdm" which supposedly means "Mint Display Manager". However, the problem is that there already is a package "mdm" in Debian which are "Utilities for single-host parallel shell scripting". Thus, on Mint, the original "mdm" package cannot be installed.
>>
>>57092329

>Another example of such a hi-jack are their new "X apps" which are supposed to deliver common apps for all desktops which are available on Linux Mint. Their first app of this collection is an editor which they forked off the Mate editor "pluma". And they called it "xedit", ignoring the fact that there already is an "xedit" making the old "xedit" unusable by hi-jacking its namespace.

>Add to that, that they do not care about copyright and license issues and just ship their ISOs with pre-installed Oracle Java and Adobe Flash packages and several multimedia codec packages which infringe patents and may therefore not be distributed freely at all in countries like the US.

>To conclude, I do not think that the Mint developers deliver professional work. Their distribution is more a crude hack of existing Debian-based distributions. They make fundamental mistakes and put their users at risk, both in the sense of data security as well as licensing issues.

>I would therefore highly discourage anyone using Linux Mint until Mint developers have changed their fundamental philosophy and resolved these issues.

Also, it's still faster to install whatever software you need and patch your kernel, than install a fucking new distro.
