I wonder how the Note 7 batteries actually explode. I'm working a lot with replacing batteries in most phones and I've seen swollen pieces of shit in every brand you can mention. None have caught fire as of yet tho, even with brute force removing them in the worst of conditions.

The only thing I can imagine is the battery swelling up and then getting pierced by a unfortunately placed neighboring component as the structural integrity fails. As the swelling itself doesn't cause it to explode. Alternatively having not enough space to swell and the area around it is rigid enough to burst it through pancaking.

S5 doesn't have a fingerprint sensor, its two generations old. No SD support as in...no microSD cards? That's very untrue, it can expand by at least 128GB. Also just checked XDA, HTC has some decent ROM support as well.

BUT the S5 would probably be a cheaper and more reliable choice. If you get one MAKE SURE to check the rear camera for defects. Idk what happened to mine but there's a loose piece or something that causes the autofocus to hardy ever work

It requires heavy calibration and as someone that takes electronic fingerprints for a living I can tell you that it won't be able to get a readable print easily without you doing the registration. Also if you're not a filthy criminal already then it literally doesn't matter.

The problem with Huawei is that aside from the Nexus 6P and Honor 8, they don't have a single phone with a decent processor in the U.S. All the rest use 61X chips or 400 chips, which are functional for simplicity but not for gaming or any computational tasks.

That, and the Honor 8 doesn't have much ROM community because of the Kirin chip.

The 6P is good, SD810 chip's heat not withstanding, and the 5x is good as a budget phone and has Cyanogenmod, if that matters to you, but it does have the 616 chip in it.

Hey /spg/, Note 7 owner who happens to not have exploded yet here. I'm getting kind of frustrated with the fact that I'm probably going to have to exchange my phone a second time so I don't have to live in fear that my model might be defective, so I'm trying to look into alternatives.

Now, I bought the Note 7 for a reason. I loved the Note 5, and I had the S4 previously - all treated me extremely well, and honestly I was really enjoying the Note 7. The screen and battery life were incredible, camera was pretty great, and I really love the wireless charging. I don't have to worry about a port steadily getting worse and worse as time goes on, or buying new cables. Combine that with the great battery life and I don't worry about carrying a spare charger with me anyway.

Basically, what I'm looking for in a phone:

- HAS to work on Verizon. I'm not switching carriers to use a GSM-only chinkphone.
- 5.7" or somewhere around there, smallest I'd probably go is 5.4" or 5.5"
- Good/great battery life, wireless charging is a big bonus
- Expandable storage if possible, large internal if not
- Specs at least somewhat comparable to the Note 7, if not the Note 5 at worst
- I'd prefer if the screen wasn't shitty, but 1440p AMOLED isn't exactly necessary
- Are there even any other phones out there with pen input that are worth anyone's time? If so, that'd be cool too.

Im so fucking happy that theres a second recall. I accidentally dropped my replacement bomb 7 2 days after exchanging it. There was no screen protector on it and i had gotten a refund on the case i originally got for it. Huge hole in my screen that damaged the touch sensors themselves. Half my screen has a green tint and periodically flashes because of this. Thank you Samsung for screwing up and letting me exchange this.

What sucks now is that I was hoping I could exchange for another Bomb 7. This thing is a fucking power house of a phone. I reckon my best choice is an S7 edge because the only thing thats different is no pen. Ideally i would want an S8 but i cant go that long without a proper smartphone.

At least I got a 256gb sd card and a Gear VR out of all this.

God damn I'm sick of hearing this shit. Batteries are easily replaceable if you just own a screwdriver and a knife. In the Iphone 6/s example here you also need a hairdryer. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+6+Battery+Replacement/29363

Literally:
1. Remove bottom screws, pentalobe
2. Open it up from bottom (6s has adhesive around screen edge but just fuck that shit up with more force, I've never broken a screen from opening one)
3. You don't have to remove the screen but if you do it's easier, 5 phillips screws and 3/4 pop off connectors (do not lose the orientation of the screws or you'll fuck the mobo)
4. 2 phillips screws holding battery connector, pop it out from mobo
5. Heat phone over battery on the back until it's uncomfortable to touch but not grilled
6. Jab anything plastic or just work with fingers around battery until it's loose, reheat as needed
7. If you have enough residual tape where the battery sat it's fine, otherwise replace tape or just glue it the fuck in (there are kits with new tape with the battery)
8. Put in new battery and reverse your steps.

Ifixit is just anal as fuck with all of their steps and "please buy this spudger for 5-10 dollars also 5 other items".
