Just out of curiosity, how many people here touch type with proper technique?
>>
>>57005645
There is only one way to find out how good you are at typing

type racer you faggot let's go

>>
I don't
>>
my record is 151 wpm on a membrane office keyboard
>>
Type racer is the way to go
>>
decent enough, I can get 110-120 if I let myself make errors.
>>
No such thing as proper technique
What works well for other might not for you
>>
>>57005645
having locked zones is retarded

the right shift is awkward as hell to use, and if you wish to type "Awesome", it is better to use the fingers that make sense rather than forcefully wasting time moving them to use the "right one"
>>
18 words per minute. Up from 15. I've been practicing with mavel bacon.
>>
70 - 80 wpm on an average day. 90 if I go full retard and type all day.
>>
roughly 100 wpm.

120-130 wpm on 10fastfingers (doesn't count, but still fun if you just want to hack away).
>>
>>57007201
>>57007235
No, there are correct ways to type. Just like there are correct ways to play a guitar and correct ways to fangle.

I typed relatively fast on qwerty for most of my life (70ish wpm) but I did so by looking at the keyboard. I decided to learn how to touch type with the proper technique. I did a bit of research and learned of the inefficiency of Qwerty. I ended up switching to colemak, and learned proper typing technique. Started to hit about 100ish wpm. I recently switched to an ergodox infinity and this has left my speed lowered to about 80wpm and climbing.
>>
99 wpm

I only use 2 fingers to type, my left index and my right middle finder
>>
>>57007374
That's impressive for only using 2 fingers. I use 6 fingers (not counting thumbs) and I get 101 wpm.
>>
got 71wpm twice in a row, so I guess that

just broke 100

using 2 fingers at this speed gets kind of sloppy, hands are moving at lightning speed

I get between 95-100 wpm without looking at the keyboard but i think it's my limit.

I learned to touch type by myself without following any guidelines or the like, sometimes i get stuck typing with one hand for some seconds because of bad finger placement but i am too lazy to re-learn a more proper technique.
>>
not my fastest, oh well

about 70-90 wpm, varies on the text in typeracer.

Hendrix didn't play his guitar the correct way, neither did Jeff Healy and they both killled that shit.
>>
>>57007368
Kill yourself if you can't reach at least 90 on QWERTY.

>tfw have been typing without looking at keyboard since forever but learnt it wrong so I'm only using 3-4 fingers
>>
>>57008615
hendrix did, he was just left handed
he restrung his guitar so that it was basically a left handed guitar, plus learnt scales eventually and was better for it
don't know about Jeff
>>
>>57009626
Same here.

You should try keybr.com or something like that. I have to force myself now to learn it the right way so I've been using that and some other random software. I'm fine with words but it's definitely harder to work with capital letters and symbols.
>>
>>57009626
I'm the same way, I can reach 110WPM easy though so I don't really give a shit
>>
>>57007436
How often to you replace your keyboards? I can only imagine that you destroy them at that speed with a peck style.

Haven't tested myself in a while, I think I get somewhere around 80wpm primarily just using index-ring fingers on each hand. Pinky fingers strictly for reaching.

>>
>>57010308
Not him butI've been using the same laptop for six years, type at ~120WPM with three fingers on each hand, and the keyboard is perfectly fine. There's no need to smash against the keys.
>>
>>57010352
That's also three times as many fingers. He's saying he pecks away with one finger per hand, literally having to use his entire wrist / arm to move. Or maybe he meant 2/hand and I misunderstood. I have a bad habit of typing with my fingers fully extended once I get a flow going. Can slap the shit out of a keyboard. Hopefully this cheap mechanical I just got holds up better than a rubber dome. Though I find I'm not typing nearly as hard, and bottoming out the keys much less with those blues despite getting what feels like much better speed.
>>
>>57010385
I assumed he meant 2 fingers on each hand, reaching 100WPM with only one finger on each hand sounds insane. Also, isn't the point of mechanical keyboards that you don't bottom out the keys, but rather kind of float around?
>>
>>57010400
Higher durability, better sensitivity, and less ghosting. rubber dome 'actuate' prior to bottoming out as well. Only certain switches actually have a tactile bump indicating actuation, though. Iirc it's just blues and browns that have the bump. The others have linear resistance and by feeling are effectively the same as rubber dome.

As far as one finger per hand, I've witnessed people typing 90+ wpm that way, and it's fucking retarded.
>>
>>57009657
He actually didn't, music theory is something completely different to play style. He used his own techniques to develop a playing style unique to him. He's not alone in this either, many many guitarists use their own ways rather than a conventional 'taught correct' way to play, other examples are Mark Knopfler and Dave Grohl
>>
>>57010447
To add on the mechanicals. I've definitely found in my short time with blue switches that the combination of the tactile bump with the actual click help train you out of bottoming out your keys. To be honest, it almost feels like they're meant to be passive training functions that you eventually move on from. Browns have the tactile bump without the audible click. They also have different level of resistance, but I can't remember if they're lighter or heavier. I've heard they're a mix between reds and blues.
>>
>>57005645
130 WPM, which is pretty average for a non-retarded computer user.

I press the 9 key with my middle finger and 0 with my ring finger, so I guess my technique is not "proper".
>>
>>57010955
Average professional typists type at 65 to 75 wpm. Maybe you mean the average autistic user.

I think you misspelled "autist", but then again, I'm using Dvorak, so what am I to say?
>>
>>57005645
I try to, but touch typing on a non ortholinear keyboard is a real pain in the ass. I think I'll never be able to properly touch type until I get the ergodox I dream of.
>>
101 WPM and I'm pretty tired.

I'm kind of retarded though as I touch type properly only with my left hand. My right hand is stuck to just thumb and index finger typing. Can I fix this? How?
