I actually really like the Pixel's choice of color names. It takes the piss out of other companies naming them like jewelry or make-up. What's fucking wrong with just calling the black version "Black" and the white/silver version "Silver"?

Whats the best choice for a cheap phone which has or will definitely have Android Nougat support + min. 2GB Ram and quadcore?

No special gaming gpu poweeer required, only browsing and apps. Screen not bigger than 4,7".

Country is Germany. Price is not a problem (its supposed to be a gift)

I want to inquire about Chinese phone spying because I'm thinking of getting a note 3. How serious is it? Do we know what they take? Is it possible to remove it or install our own rom on the note 3?
>>
>>56978421
Depends what you mean by performance.

Real world speed (general usage, web browsing, etc) then yes.

Gaming, yes if it's mostly a GPU bound game.

Benchmarks, not really. Apple's architecture absolutely smashes Qualcomm and Samsung's architectures in serial performance, and is even competitive in multi-core benchmarks despite the core count disadvantage.
>>
>>56978445
I don't really game on my phone. I'm looking for day to day tasks. Like shooting photos, opening apps quickly etc. My s5 started strong but soon fell short and starting apps takes around 3 seconds. That's too long for my taste.

Its also annoying as shit that I have to wait for updates for like half a decade

If theres nothing particulary better I'll pull the trigger and switch to apple I guess
>>
>>56978502
If you get a modern stock Android phone like a OnePlus 3 or Pixel, it will be just as snappy as an iPhone 7 in general use. Smartphone SoC performance has plateaud, as far as real-world, general use is concerned. So I wouldn't base my decision of whether to get an iPhone or Android on that.

Since you mentioned updates, I think the iPhone is the clear winner. Even Google's new flagships will only get 2 years of updates.

Try to get it replaced then. If you were willing to unlock the bootloader then I would have suggested doing a full wipe and re-flashing the system partition. But that will most likely void warranty or 'Buyer protection'.

If its unlocked then flash "TWRP Recovery(alka)". Check this; just replace the CM13 rom with official MIUI zip:

Wileyfox Swift mini review:

The wileyfox swift is a rebadged and reworked chinkphone sold by Wileyfox in europe and the UK for about 130 eurobucks. It comes with cyanogenmod and, ofcourse updates for cyanogenmod. Build quality is nice, although it takes quite a few design elements from the Nexus 5. Processor is an SD 410, which for the tasks I give it, performs pretty good. The camera is very decent, better atleast than the Ulefone Paris' camera. It comes preinstalled with some junk like Skype for example, which i swiftly uninstalled.
HOWEVER
cyanogenmod is so useless, holy heck. I just want to assign a microsd card as the standard location for apps without having to format it as second internal storage.

If you can get one on or under ios 9.3.3 then buy it. You can jailbreak it and do literately anything. Jailbreaking made me realize how much better IOS is at being an optimized powerhouse of an OS. Apple really undersales it with all the software limitations.

Hello faggots. My ZUK Z2 arrived today. It doesn't feel like a cheap phone tho. The buttons don't wobble, screen brightness is satisfying and it's much more responsive than my old m7... It's great hardware except ZUI so I'm flashing RR rn.
Speakers are loader than my m7 but are kinda hollow ~ still not as bad as my Xperia m2. Audio output through the jack is fine.
The home button is preddy cool. Swipe up to go back swipe left or left to switch through the application history. Doppelclick shows the classic app history screen with previews. Easy shit tho.
Update: pic related
Shit was super easy. Zuk forum instructions makes adb usage fool proof tho. Glad to have a clean rom.
With RR you can't switch through the apps anymore. The touch thibgy only acts as a back button. Double click is still opening the recent apps switcher thing.
>>
>>56983241

Yes. the camera is amazing. The camera app not so much: the manual mode is great, HQ mode is really good... but HDR is too subtle (and I hate explicit HDR, but it just appears to do nothing). 4k videos out of it come out amazing, stabilization works really well... but no 1080 60fps yet!

It's all software stuff but it kinda irks me. I'd like to have more slow mo options for example, and more timelapse options.

Other than these options, the camera app is lightning fast and I really enjoy using the manual mode.

pic: handheld 2 seconds just for shit and giggles. Came out blurred by denoising, but zero camera shake. Zero color editing, it's damn natural looking.

Its supposed to be a present from my family. Still ying to be responsible with the price. Sry if thats too much for you.

Im confused about iphone specs. How can they be so much lower than any other phone and still seem to have decent performance?

Also, do i understand this right: Iphone SE is essentially an Iphone 5 but upgraded with technology from the iphone 6 and 6s, but put into a chassis very similar to the ipone 4?

Iphone 5 and 5c are essentially rubbish now but but 5s is decent, while the iphone 6 and 6s are just a little bigger than the all the versions of the 5, Is that correct?

So if I want decent speed but small form i should go for 5s (or maybe 6 but not Samsung s6 or s7)

Also, how big are the differences in iOS for phone and macbook? Are they almost the same or is it like night and day?

Iph

Can I ask you why do you need more than 64gb of storage on your phone?

I can't fill my OP3.I've used just 18.4gb and half of that space is a bunch of useless photos and two FHD movies.
I don't have much music on it, but even if I did, I could shove 30gb of music on it on top of the random shit I already have and I'd still have 20gb to spare.
All this plus Android is not meant to work with mSD's and routinely fucks up on them. They're a relic of a long gone past when Android phones only came in 8 and 16gb.

Don't want to push you towards the OP3 but if you value your general smartphone experience quality over audio and VR (which is what the Axon 7 has got over the OP3) there isn't even a choice to make, OP3 all the way.

Microsd for muh Chinese cartoons and movies. The OP3 would be the ideal phone but I wasn't sure about the storage situation would fair for media consumption. The honor 8 and axon are great phones but the software sucks so much ass, Esp compared to CM or OxygenOS.

So I found one of these in the UK for £100, where it's usually about £150, but now I've found out it's basically only made for chinese users, so while it does have the option to change the language to english alot of the apps are just natively chinese and the worst is that you can't even run google play store for some reason, and it has another chinese app store.

I looked online and because the model isn't made with any compatibility with america, it seems to have very little custom roms and stuff like that, and i'm not sure if the stuff I've found removes all the chinese stuff completely. So i ask would the regular redmi 3 roms work with the redmi 3 pro? The only difference is 3gb ram instead of 2, 32gb instead of 16gb and it has a fingerprint sensor. Apparently with even little difference between models there is very little compatibility, but seeing as I may have little choice is it worth trying it? I'm thinking of putting a cynagen mod rom made for the redmi 3, and just downloading fingerprint support from the play store, if that's possible

>>
>>56984054
No, the Axon 7 tested better than any device when it comes to headphone audio, and it has two frontal speakers, so true stereo. The HTC10 has good audio but not on the same level. (cba to google but if I remember correctly the htc uses the small frontal speaker as a tweeter and the bottom speaker for everything else, so it's better than just bottom speaker but not true stereo.)

Of course if you don't own expensive headphones there's not much of a point, I'd rather get the HTC. But I'm biased against the Axon as it looks half assed cosmetically compared to both the HTC and OP3.
>>
>>56984124
No, spread the word. Now that we know that ZTE will unlock the bootloader then this could be the truly perfect phone, so long as enough people buy it to get good rom support

>>
Just got back from the store with an LG V10 running 5.1.1 out of the box. The 6.0.1 update is ready but it says the phone needs to be fully charged to even start it. Even if the phone is plugged in. Any particular reason why?
>>
>>56984519
I did, to 5.5"
>first gen moto G to OP3
I instalty felt much more comfortable and looking back at the previously crisp and comfy Moto G screen made it seem like staring at a 1366x768 cheap 15" laptop after using a good 24" for a while. All my daily phone tasks are like 2x faster just because of the size advantage.
Also, and this is a specific case but might apply to you too, a thinner and larger device is MUCH more balanced in your hand, giving the impression of less felt weight, so a lighter device.
I'll just go for the cons since there's so little to speak of:

>phone can be tricky to get out of your pocket when sitting, it tends to snag on the edges of your pocket, you'll have to deal with this. It's a pain in the ass when driving, after a couple weeks I just started placing the phone somewhere in my car.

>of course one handed usage isn't as easy, here the OP3 has an advantage because the sandstone cover offers insane amounts of sure grip, without a cover I'd be afraid of it slipping off. In any case, daily usage will be faster because icons are larger and easy to reach, which especially applies to the keyboard which becomes larger than most qwerty physical keyboards, so even with one hand you'll be faster, but you can do less stuff before having to reach for the other hand.

On a 5" it's not even something to talk about. Sub-5" devices are a compromise for maximum pocketability, 5" devices aren't. Smaller phones are just something for someone that needs a very discrete phone for, say, work or public appearance reasons. If you're some kind of VIP on the red carpet you can stick an iPhone SE somewhere and hide it well, while something like a Note 7 will always bulge.
>>
>>56984700
Safetyreasons. If the battery runs out during the update your phone is fucked

Can I bypass the google account when I restart an android phone? Or do I have to create one?

I went from a droid razr m (4.3") to a moto x pure (5.7").
It definitely makes a huge difference and does take some getting used to, but within a week you'll be used to handling it.
Some of the difficult parts are
>not always being able to use one hand
>having to hold the phone more carefully
>fitting into pockets
Yeah, that last point was honestly the hardest part for me. 5.5" is pretty standard at this point though, so you shouldn't have any difficulties adjusting to that much.
>>
>>56984708
Oh by the way I have small skellington hands, nearly girly.
>>
>>56984844
>>not always being able to use one hand
>>having to hold the phone more carefully
>>fitting into pockets

That's what I don't like about those big phones. I really tend towards the z5 compact right now despit the mi5s or other phones like that..
>>
>>56984887
personally, I love the 5.7" screen and I don't think I'd be able to get anything less than 5.5" anymore.
It depends on the person and what parts of the phone you value I guess. For me, the benefit of the large screen outweighs the small hindrances.
>>
>>56984887
One handed usage is overrated, it is never comfortable to do stuff with one hand, most of the usage is with two hands, so don't think too much about that.
Holding the phone more carefully is true but you just have to find a grippy cover for it.
On the other hand, the pocket issue is bigger than it seems and takes time getting used to - imho it's the one true compromise. On my Moto G I could just whip it out and do shit instantly, on the OP3 I have to slide it out vertically or else it gets stuck. Meh.

But then, it is personal preference. Now that I have a 5.5" I often use it instead of the computer, for example.

Yes but I feel like the phone needs an upgrade, I am out of storage and it feels like it lags too much randomly. But if there is something worth waiting for next year then I might want to wait. The current phones all seem very meh to me.
>>
>>56985276
Literally nothing worth waiting for as far as I know. Pixels are shit. Nexus phone went out of production and will just rise in price. Everything else is a bit of a gamble.

I think the only options that are not chinkphones or EXPLOSIONS are the S7 and HTC10, which are very expensive for what they are. I bought an OP3 and I'm happy with it, I couldn't afford those phones.

My autism can't handle the "tab windows" button (the touch button on the right of the home button) on my op3 being p slow. It's slow in the sense that I press it and I have to wait almost a full second until the current screen minimizes and I see the rest of the tabs open. It lags even when I have one window or app running. Not sure if this has been going on or just recently.

Is this a Nova Launcher, ROM, or just general phone lag?

I'm unlocked, no root, no other modifications, but using Nova Launcher.

I tried making those Nova settings to a faster speed but it only fixes scrolling I think.

It has better specs than the baseline Pixel already except a very slight performance loss due to the marginally older CPU and GPU.
The Pixel doesn't even have OIS and at that pricepoint not being QHD and water resistant, while even fucking apple is water resistant, is hilarious.

Plus if you're in Europe the Pixel will come next year, so the Google phone will get Nougat AFTER chink phones and maybe even Samsung. Talk about outdated.

samsung and HTC are making better, cheaper phones. the pixel has the following features:
- it's more expensive, making you feel like it *must* be as good as the iPhone, because that's how that works, right?!?!?
- the pixel has a marginally better camera (i hope that's worth $650 starting)
- it's made by google, so it'll definitely get updates (except never mind the fact that no nexus phone has gotten support from google for longer than (or even nearly as long as) applel has supported the iPhone 5).

in the last 4 years, google has launched 4 different programs to signal that they would support the constituent devices better than the horseshit baseline:
- Nexus
- Android Silver
- Google Edition
- (now) Pixel

Google has no idea how to commit to something. you paid $650 for a phone that'll almost certainly stop getting updates years before apple abandons the iPhone 7.

I refuse to be believe that you're such a poorfag that you can't spend 250shekels on a phone.
I call myself a poorfag tho.
It's a fugging flagship for 250 shekels. You can flash custom ROMs without signing up in a fugging forum and begging for bootloader unlock tho.
Camera is okay imo pic related.
Decent dubs dude

I prefer listening to artists and occasionally add songs to specific mood playlists. So I can play them while work or driving without needing to do touch the device again.

I can't identify if it's an issue with my phone's hardware or with my office apps, but I can't seem to open Excel files with Form Controls in them. The Microsoft Excel app for Android doesn't support Form Controls, and OfficeSuite crashes after the file opens.

I'm using a Zenfone Go. Is there another app I should try using, or just get a better phone?

Uh some measurements have shown that these fancy graphs with 60bars you can adjust aren't changing the sound so precisely as they suggest. Especially phone DACs aren't capable enough for that. 8 bars to scale up or down by 14 decibel are enough to get want I want. I don't call myself a audiophile.

Final hours of the HTC 10 sale. When's the next time it'll go for $550 (or lower)? My OPO isn't quite dead yet, but I'd like to get it replaced by the start of the new year.

Following the guide I got very interested in the Redmi 3S but there's no solid cases available for it.

I just want a phone with very good battery life that doesn't break when it falls out of my pocket. Don't care too much for camera or speed or anything. 4G would be nice though, I plan to use it for a couple years.
Been looking at rugged phones but I figured a normal phone with case could also work.

What is the point of getting a $400+ phone other than showing off I have money?

In my experience a thin silicone case is more than enough protection. I have a Redmi Note 3 pro with such a case and am very satisfied with it. I had a galaxy S4 before it that lasted 3 and a half years with such a silicone case, dropped it countless times in the flor, never had a crack in it.

for most of the past 10 years the only phones that were worth having were more than $400, so i'd bet anything that manufacturers are going to hope that we've internalized the feeling that you NEEED to spend that much money to get a useable phone, and that anything under $400 is junk.

other than that, marginal superiority. you can get a phone that's 100% across the board for $800, or you can get a phone that's 90% for $400, or you can get a phone that's 80% for $200. if you really, really want the additional 10 or 20 percent, then you might be willing to spend that extra amount.

i splurged on stuff in my own life - keyboard, monitors, etc... (contact points in my life) - so i bet there are reasonable, rational-minded people out there who will make the right decision that the extra 20% is worth $400 more for them. true, millions of idiots will have been upsold in the process, but that's not your problem.
>>
>>56990165
Instead of buying a new $200 phone every 1.5 years, I bought a phone for 450 so then I can replace it in 3 years.
At least until chinkphones become better in the U.S market.
>>
>>56983241

>Opinions on the OnePlus3?
easily the best android device on the market, will get nougat relatively soon. Updated monthly, so far. Community support by the shitload, rooting it doesn't even void warranty. This and the 6gigs of ram guarantee it's future proofed for the next 4 years.
Just amazing quality as a whole, looks feels and acts like a proper flagship. Dash charging is a huge selling point.

Shortcomings:
- screen protectors kinda suck. I think there's some 100% coverage curved ones now, but I have no idea.
- display suffers in VR. For normal use it's good and sharp.
- still no 1080p 60fps
- waiting period to get one is asinine, you're looking at two weeks at least, right now
- battery performance is good but not amazing, you're looking at max 4 hours of screen on time with heavy usage. It will easily get you through the day, but it's no amazing performer here.

And that's it I guess. The big one is the wait time.

protectors are not for falls.

>have slightly abrasive sand something in your pocket for whatever reason, maybe you went hiking or to the beach, it can easily happen
>slide screen across sand residue because pocket, yo
>have a microscratch there forever that you can barely see but YOU KNOW it's there

no thanks, I'll use a protector.

check for updates
try the stock launcher
disable animations
take this to xda
install a custom rom (if it REALLY bugs you)
or factory reset (read above parentheses)
>>

Dunno I've never used one much. I'd say no because the iPhone 6 is still good enough, but I'd never buy an iOs device in the first place.
Too soon to change phone though, for my taste. I'd keep it another year if it works.
>>
>>56986845
I used to, but I didn't on my iPhone 6, screen is still scratch free. I'm pretty careful with it though, it doesn't go in my pocket with keys or change etc.

no bloatware, but that is really not good enough of an excuse for buying a google phone now. Just get the phone you like best an debloat it. BUT AND THIS IS MAJOR stock android gets basically infinite updates until the phone gets dropped by google and gets picked up by pajeetxxx on xda

HTC 10 has industry leading audio through headphones. Speakers too are far above average but not as good as Axon.
>>
Without price considered, is the HTC 10 better than the OnePlus 3?
>>
>>56991920
OP3 has more ROM support, AMOLED screen, 64GB internal

HTC 10 has a better screen, SD card, better audio, better build quality (despite both being metal) and is smaller if that matters. HTC doesn't really have a fault. OP3 has many more faults than advantages over the 10.
>>
>>56987442
google also said that the pixel will get 2 years worth of system updates and 3 years of security updates.

Pretty bad considering the pricetag, doesn't samsung have a similar update policy?
>>
>>56991972
Sounds about right. There' is definitely value in that $150 price difference. Thanks. Is HTC prompt with monthly secuiryt updates?
>>
>>56991920
op3 means almost no customer support while htc 10 means customer support. If you want to stay on the safe side concerning this then the htc 10 wins.
>>
>>56992008
I believe HTC is already planning the 10 to get 7.0. I'm not sure how swiftly, but probably faster than Samsung. Since they only have what, the A9 and the 10 as their current generation phones, they don't have much else to update.
