Ah, I am more interested in X series so I didn't know. To be fair, I have a x201 and considered upgrading to a x260 but wtf only one slot of ram. I also looked into the X1 carbon but muh soldered ram. I discovered by "chance" that the t460s also had soldered components and somehow came to assume that the t460 was also crippled.
Modern thinkpad suck tho. There are no-name computers with better specs that are also upgradeable.

You can upgrade a T460s to 24 GiB.
The new IPS screens on the T460 and T460s are very good, much better than on older ThinkPads. Battery life is fine. The new keyboard just takes a little time to get used to.

These are fine laptop per se but the quality / price ratio has worsen.
I admit the 1440p screen from the x1 carbon is goat, especially compared go my old x201 screen (my phone has a better resolution than it). But man, 16:9 format ratio, cutting the number of available slots for the X series, forcing the user to buy the most expensive CPU to HAVE THE RIGHT TO BUY more ram, especially considering that the CPU upgrade is 200$ ish more expensive than the recommended price on ark... It's too much.
I don't mind the whole spying stuff since I always do a fresh install (and don't use windows at home) but lenovo is too niggard.
I'd better wait for the next gen of dell XPS when they remove the adaptive brightness shit.
This, or finally building a computer rig and only using a cheapo laptop for outside purpose.
