Is the Xperia X Compact a worthy upgrade?
I'm going to wait a few months for a price drop first, of course. I know that it's vastly overpriced currently

Eh you stupid fuck I can lookup release dates too. The 810 still has a better graphic unit. How did you caught the idea that my reasoning is based on the naming look into the picture I posted or waste your money on a 'newer thus better' phone, retard.

I have a galaxy s3 and I really want to upgrade my phone, but I don't know to what exactly. I love android, but the last 3 phones that I had were really laggy (galaxy s3 mini, galaxy s4 mini and currently normal s3) so I have a lack of faith in samsung right now, although I heard that the last galaxy phones are par to iphone softwarte. I'm currently thinking to buy between Iphone 6s (honestly a really good phone but I don't like the prision that is IOS) Galaxy S7, or waiting for that ugly ass pixel shit (I'm a guy who fell into the camera meme)

help me guys, im a fucking normie and i really need a good phone, idk about price. I would like quality

Along with allowing unknown resources / apps to be installed, these are my settings that are checked.

Can I turn any of them off without damaging the software or previously installed apps? Or should I just leave them all on and not worry about getting my shit hacked?

I am unlocked.
No root or anything.
Unknown sources was used for fdroid and xda app that's it.
Rest of the settings were turned on solely for unlocking bootloader.
Using OP3, might root down the road when OxyOS turns to shit.

Here's my advice coming from someone who has gone through only 5 years of smartphones but has had both great and shit phones.

>Don't settle
One Plus meme or not, don't buy a device because it's decent enough for a cheap price. Like everything in the world, invest in something good.

>Buy local
Don't buy international phones. Don't buy shady chinkphones. Now, unless you know your way around dealing with both customer service and phone moderation, then go for it. If you're as noob as you say you are, buy from a local store or unlocked via website that's catered to your country.

>Your needs
From what it seems like, you want a phone that works, that can handle your daily tasks, and likes a decent camera. It doesn't look like you need top of the line, which is fine. Get something that people regard as midtier. It's not an insult at all and it avoids having to pay $1000+ for a phone that'll just be way too high spec for you anyways.

My suggestions for you and for others looking for reliable phones for a considerable price:

Best for midtier:
Nexus 6p
OnePlus3

Getting old and snowing it's age:
Moto X Pure
Nexus 5x

I'm sure there's more but those are great phones to start researching.

Looking at getting a new phone to replace my Z3 compact as I'm bored with the overall design and small screen size. I was looking at a Oneplus 3 in gold however the ridiculous wait times and customer support issues have me a little put off.

I recently started looking at the Honor 8 instead because the design is incredible. However it's more expensive, slightly weaker internals excluding the camera and doesnt have physical nav buttons. Another negative is in the UK the P9 is available on giffgaff for £345, yet the honor 8 is nearer £380 despite supposedly being the cheaper brand (amazon pricing). Would going from a 4.6" screen to a 5.2" screen even be noticeable? Also does anyone have experience with going from the Z3c to a OP3/Honor 8 and could weigh in on the battery life as that's the huge thing I like about the Z3c atm. Any idea if the honor 8 will crash in price around december?

Amy ZTE Axon 7 owners here? What's the general consensus on the phone? Is it actual normal Android or some garbage knock off? Seems like the phone is always brought up and talked about but whenever I ask anything about it, nothing is said.

>>56945282
Nothing is ever said because nobody has it. It may get one sided results but they can't be conclusive. Either is great or bad, you have to dig into more than just 4chan to see the actual results. From what I've researched, picking bw Axon or OP3, the Axon software is buggy and not as stock as people would like. Its hardware is said to perform beautifully but it's the annoying UI that's giving people problems. That, as well as the unlocking bootloader cancels warranty, that doesn't make this phone worth it.
>>
>>56945341
Thanks. That was the kind of answer I was looking for. Reviews from tech radar and the like seemed to favor the phone but no one I know or in 4chan actually had it. What about the V10? Good phone?

iPhones, not sure of any androids, will require the passcode if the fingerprint scanner hasn't been used for ~12 hours. Won't really help if you sleep next to some cunt who wants access to your phone, but if you were separated from your phone for long enough no one would be able to force you unlock it. Guys, I asked in /wsr/ and in reddit, and I couldn't find any info or help. I formatted a Samsung Galaxy A3 (Not the 2016 version) and I got a "Not Registered to Network" error even though my SIM is working perfectly fine. I tried doing the simple "Search Network" solution, and it didn't work. Tried to install a firmware from SamMobile that was the one with my carrier, didn't work either. I rooted it and tried to do the Ariza Patch and didn't work either.

Yeah sure fag, you can get your fucking "flagship" samshit but once it explodes or any other shit happens to it, then don't fucking come crying here about it. Or just buy an LG you idiot and be overjoyed by the fucking bootloop in a year.

I've got the Honor 8. I have so say, I'm impressed at the shutter speed of the camera, it feels like taking good photos is easy like on the iPhone. Because let's admit it, the iPhone has a decently solid camera.

It's also super fast, slick, and thin. But it is very very slippery and any surface it can fall off of, it will.

I'm thinking about ordering a Redmi Note 3, but there's something troubling me: some sellers have an "international version", generally sold out, while other models are labelled "chinese version". Other vendors have no such distinction.

What's that difference, and should I care?

>>56949161

>>
>>56949773
Autoreply: some vendors do mention that point in their Chinglish descriptions:
> 1.The phone NOT Internation Version, just installed Xiaomi official Global Firmware on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro,pls understand.

So apparently they're chink versions that are flashed with the international firmware. question still stands: what are the differences and should I care? Especially if there's a difference with supported bands, which I would suspect.
>>
>>56949773
International versions tend to have different 4g bands so it's worth checking which one your provider uses.

I'll admit I was confused as fuck at first. Some come with chink rom and some come with global rom with more languages. Not a massive problem which one you go for since you can just flash global rom afterwards. I think some sellers mix up the naming between the phones that have different bands and roms for example they might label a phone without the necessary 4g bands as international just because it has global rom with additional languages installed.

Just read everything as carefully as you can or send the seller a message.

What's the best firewall for Android? Most notable candidates seem to be AFWall+ and NetGuard, the former requires root and works via IPTables while the latter does not require root and works over VPN.
A VPN connection that I don't control and have no insight into sounds really dodgy to me. AFWall+ looks like it belongs on Gingerbread design-wise, doesn't really inspire confidence either.

My brother and my mom have iPhones, and while I really dislike the software they run (way too locked down and too much of an asspain), I have to admit that the udates are nice. The 4 year thing is a bit of a meme since the last update is mainly designed to cripple your phone and force you into a new one, but even guaranteed updates for 3 years is nice. The huge downside of Android is te lack of official updates, sometimes in as little as a year.

I still like my Dad's Blackberry Classic the best. I actually prefer it to my Moto G pure in many ways. BB10 truly is the pinnacle of mobile OS design, pity that it never had the app support.

Apple has an established track record, which is probably why people feel so strongly about it. Maybe they're abandoning their old ways. But even if they did pull the same old trick, they still have the longest support cycle of any phone manufacturer. So all these arguments about Apple being too expensive, peddled by people who upgrade every two years, are sort of laughable.

Lack of expandability and UI preferences? Those are other matters.

Performance wise it's not really worse. Actually it's even better in some cases. The screen is way better and camera can actually take good photos. There is also an SD card slot and so far there haven't been any problems with software "not using the RAM properly". And it looks a bit more original than the One Plus 3. The software might be its only weakness but who cares about this shit if you can flash some random rom and all will be fine.

There is literally no reasons anymore to buy Google phones, given you get the same non removable battery, the same lack of expandable storage, less storage options, only 2 years of updates (against 4 for Apple), no OIS, no stereo speakers.

The only thing that made me buy Nexus phones was to easy rootability. But even that is being removed. http://www.xda-developers.com/pixel-phones-not-yet-rootable-with-current-methods/

Google doesn't care about power users or developers anymore, so just buy an iPhone. If you care about root, buy a OP3.

LG V10 or G5? Both are the same price at T-Mobile. I was told the G5 actually has the better camera and the V10 has gotten worse battery life since updating android to 6.0.

Anyone have experience with either of these models? Basically looking for a phone that will last the whole day and takes great pictures. This is the sad truth. There used to be reasons in my head to buy an Android phone, and they have all gone away. My Nexus 6 punished me for being rooted (no auto updates), updates were carrier-specific even though they aren't supposed to be, I'm not on the latest version of Android anymore, no removable battery, no external storage. Pixel doesn't even have wireless charging which I'm a huge fan of (got two pads, oh well).

Enter the iPhone SE, a device that isn't trying to be the slimmest biggest hip shit. Just great battery life. And I see people with old iPhones running the latest most secure version of iOS without thinking about it.

There are things I still really miss about Android. The notification system on iOS is terrible. But I don't miss half-assed apps, laggy camera, or the fake 'freedom' that is not doing anything that iOS isn't.

And hey, if I sell my SE after a year, I won't lose fucking $500 like selling the Nexus 6 would have done. It's a cheap experiment if nothing else.

Buying two or three fuckhuge Android phones in the same timespan with generally cameras seems like a waste of effort as well as bad for the environment. I want durable tech.

I've done my share of research on the phones. Hours of reading and watching videos, I still have yet to see any solid reason as to why the op3 is better than the axon 7.

Axon 7 has:
Better screen
Better speakers
Slightly better battery life
Expandable storage
More available not on back order for weeks
Still has got unlock and has root

The op3 has:
More rom and dev support
Slightly better camera

You people act like the axon can't even do anything out of the box but from what I have seen in reviews and the like that's simply not the case, sans some minor UI and skin changes it seems to run very comparably to the op3.

Even if you are an envirofag, there are ways around the Android OEMs' faggotry. Admittedly it is not extremely quick, but it does not run considerably shittier than TouchJizz on top of ICS.

I am fucking astounded at how averse people are to flashing custom ROMs, and how they would rather switch to a more restrictive platform than just do a little tinkering. Some tech enthusiasts you all are.

Hey, all, I'm lookin for a replacement for my Nexus 5. I saw the pixel and thought that would be a good idea, but that assistant isn't my favorite, so I was looking for comparable options, specifically the Galaxy S7. I have Tmobile, and on their website they had a $50 off deal and a free 256 GB sd card from samsung if I bought it there.

Basically, I want a phone that will not automatically store everything I do on Google's servers but is still a good flagship phone. The priority OS updates, minimal bloatshit, and newest processor for the pixel are what had me interested in it, but Google's newish privacy information selling/sharing policies (more open about it, really) are irritating to me. The S7 sounds like it's got the same capabilities as the pixel, minus the priority updates and a bit of bloating from the touchwiz. I've heard the touchwiz lag has been significantly reduced from before.

Or should I just look at a different phone entirely?

My past 3 phones were a Galaxy 3, Galaxy 5 and and experia Z3, the Z 3 was nice but it eventually started to get slow after about 8 months, both Galaxy phones slowed after about 6 months, before my Galaxy's I had an iPhone 3GS, about a month ago I went back to iOS and got the iPhone SE 64gb, it charges fast and holds battery much longer than any of my android phones, everything runs smoother, also I jailbroke it so any app I want is free and I can make iOS look however the fuck I want with the Springtomize tweak, having free Spotify premium is probably my favorite jailbreak tweak though,...... I have to admit that a jailbroken iPhone is just better than anything else out there

I've been using a Galaxy S2 Plus (lel) for three years, the last year with CM12.1 custom ROM.

It's too slow and buggy. My phone often crashes when I plug in the charger, forcing me to remove the battery before it'll unfreeze and allows me to charge it.

Apple's walled garden isn't looking too bad coming from this.

Custom ROMs are nice and fun, sure, but honestly I just want something that works and stays up to date. For old devices such as the S2/S3 I think probably CM11 is the best bet, since those newer versions of Android just hog the system resources too much.

Hi folks, can anyone here vouch for the Sony Z5 Compact, specifically over Apple? I can get a 32gb one new from a good retailer for $550 CDN no contract.

I was originally thinking iPhone SE because I can get that for $630 CDN in 64 gb but this might be a better deal it seems. Never been an Apple user but it seems really good and everyone sings its praises so I figured maybe its worth the extra $$$. I need good sound quality for my music, which is one of my biggest concerns on a phone. I heard Apple was good, but Sony was great, my dad's Sony MP3 is actually really nice in terms of quality, and I've always had good experiences with them myself. I need over 16 gb for sure, but I doubt I'll really use 64 gb fully. Would the Sony be worth it versus the SE in the end for a $100 difference (with tax)?
>>
>>56954066
How does the free spotify premium thing work? Does it allow saving playlists offline?
>>
>>56954171
The Z5 and X Compact are about the only alternatives to the iPhone SE if you're in for a small but fast phone.

The X Compact doesn't seem to offer anything over the Z5, it seems to be a sidegrade at best. The Z5 is said to have problems overheating.

I'm one of the anons here who went for an iPhone SE. One of the reasons is that it'll get updates the next four to five years, whereas with Sony you'll get maybe 2 years. And that's a maybe.
>>
>>56954089
that's because your phone is ancient and you are running unofficial cm managed by some kid in india

smartphones on the whole have gotten a lot better since then

if I were you I'd get a 5x, it has 2 years of security updates and will likely have official CM support after that
>>
>>56954171
Z5c seemed to have enough bad reviews to make me think it was a timebomb. Custom OS. Already has a successor. SE on the other hand is the newest/best of its type and sold by a company with a great history of continued software support.

Literally the only issue with the HTC 10 I've had is >>56951291 because the wifi driver is messed up or something, and tries to suspend and restart itself. The standby drain on wifi vs LTE is fairly noticeable just from the battery graph, especially over long periods of standby (6-12 hours).

The S pen features won't work properly and neither will the camera. Never root a Samsung, it's not worth it on the new models.

I'd say get HTC 10 when they drop some sweet Black Friday deal, plus they offer that 12 month unconditional warranty.

Or OnePlus if you don't mind the screen (much cheaper, but less bright than Samsung).

Now, my personal opinion is to wait for the V20 and reviews, as all these new flagships seem to suck. But Samsung died with S5 and Note 4.

the pixel will receive quick ota updates and be on stock
Free daydream vr headset is kinda neat too, i guess.
The closeups of the OP3 screen were pretty off-putting, I dont know if I could deal with that.
Personally, I don't like the design of the v10 and v20, the bar at the top angers me while the pixel's chin doesn't matter much coming from an M8
