How usable is it in 2016? Does it still get security updates? Will whatsapp be usable after support ends this year? Does anyone know if Ankidroid works on it? It's pretty much the only android app I need.

I'm switching my wireless carrier later this week and I'd like some advice on a new phone. I'm going to Sprint and looking at phones $30/mo or cheaper.
Right now I've whittled my options down to:

Other phones they have that are any good are the HTC One A9 and the LG Stylo 2. My ideal phone would've been the Xperia Z4 or Z5 but they don't offer those.

I'd like to stick with Android as that's what I've been using. Both smartphones I've had were LG budget models, so I don't know if I should stick to the G5 as I'm used to the interface.
I like the looks of the 10 but I know it's generally considered mediocre and people have mixed opinions on HTC Sense.
I have looked at the different features and benchmarks of the 10 and G5 but really they seem about the same. Would it be a mistake to switch to HTC for the looks? I probably won't buy any G5 modules and I know the G5 has a slightly better battery but that's not a big deal for me unless it's a larger difference than it seems. Which one performs better?
I'm under the impression that /g/ dislikes Samsung and I know their phones aren't as great as people say, but what specifically are the issues you've had with them?

I have one and the phone is absolutely fantastic, but yeah, it's not gonna get updates anymore because qualcomm said they are not providing support for the chip in order to run nougat.

The phone is not considered waterproof anymore, just water resistant. Battery life is outstanding, but it does heat up while recording in 4k (5 minutes limit).

I actually use Google Now/Okay Google quite regularly to do stuff. I hate the branding and would change it if I could but I'm a sucker for the hands-free experience.

I have quite a few mates that use Amazon's Echo "Alexa" quite frequently too. It's gimicky sure but the "smart home" experience is really appealing to lots of people. Myself included.

I was close to picking up an Amazon Echo so I can just say Alexa instead, but the "Google Home" thing they announced is much more affordable. Fucking Google botnet is strangling me.

Nexus 5 owner here, I was holding out for the Pixel but it doesn't seem like a good bang-for--your-buck phone, which is what I'm after. I love everything about the N5 except the camera and battery life.

I'm also using t-mobile so band 12 voLTE is crucial for me.

Was looking for a great phone for about 500$ CAD (Canada) and the 6P sometimes gets discounted at that price but I think it would be slighlty too big for me and people are already talking about the little support you'll get in the near future and since the pixel is gonna cost literally 1k+ CAD in canada, I'm starting to look elsewhere. I saw maybe the OnePlus3 and ZTE Axon 7 so far but I know so little about phones.

My priority is a phone that won't lag at all trying to do basic things for a couple of years, a great battery life and a solid/fun to hold build. I liked the idea of Nexus after being told it was like Samsung without bloatware but honestly I just want a great phone that won't lag. Anything but Apple really.

Other things like great camera, water resistant, wireless charging a plus but not required. Budget <550$ (Canada). I can wait a few more months.

The reason that the Pixel is so expensive is marketing. They want to market Pixel as a luxury product so that it can occupy the same market niche as Apple.

That is the only reason that I can think of for the phone being priced the way that it is. When you compare the Pixel to other flagships it is hardly impressive.

When you compare the Pixel to chinkphones it is even less impressive when you consider how much cheaper a comparable Xiaomi, Letv, Huawei or OnePlus phone is.

I know that in the future a Chinkphone manufacturer is going to offer a stripped down Android experience with good specs, removable battery, microsd support and it's going to inevitably become the /g/ phone.
