The internals are the same minor variations to the original Schoeps Mic Circuit, but the "fakes" use a shit enclosure, it's so thin that it produce an echo, so you either stuff it or use a donor body of another mic with a proper thick body, that's why I'm interested in the "legit" ones because those are heavy and have no echo problems, also come with nice metal shock mounts unlike the shitty just look like shock mount but do nothing to avoid shocks of shitty cancer inducing plastic.

Yeh, I know there won't be actual temp control for cheapcheap. Some control over the temperature/power is very useful when working with delicate parts though. Eg. many thin wires will just burn if you heat them too violently.
It is nice to have control over if you are working with a 15W iron or a 60W one.

I made a battery phantom power for like $3 using chink parts (more expensive if you only plan to build one, like $7-$10) and it works better than the $20 Phantom Power the chinks sell under several brands, at first I tough it was because batteries cause no ripple, but then I plugged several 5v to 20v old chargers I had and only 1 of them give me shitty ripple that translated into buzz noise, so right now my $3 phantom power works at 12V using a chink 12V 2A led strip power brick(it only needs 3mA, so 2A is overkill but it's not like you can find a 3mA 12V power brick.

You can build this as stand alone phantom power, or as inside the mic phantom power or as phantom powered XLR to 3.5mm cable.

I'm not posting more pics how mines look because, FUCK YOU morans use the brain and come with a better version to share.

I got a "S01 Full HD 1080P" spycam off ebay, works pretty good. Not too cheap tho, about $45 aud, but you can probably find it for less.

Build quality is good enough, and battery life is quite nice with the removable external battery pack plugged in (about 10 hours in passive motion detect mode according to the specs, not sure about active recording time. without the battery pack it's only about 70 minutes passive time)

Video works pretty good, although it can be a bit grainy and needs strong lighting to work properly. Video is a lot wider than tall (as you'd expect for 1080p) so make sure you orient the camera the right way up.

Audio pickup is decent, but I think the microphone is part of the board, not on the camera part so if you hide the board too well the sound is muffled.

The downsides are:
1) video is huge, 1 minute is about 180mb
2) it can be hard to conceal effectively, although the 15cm long cable between the camera and the main device helps.
3) it's not suitable for long-term surveillance (being battery operated). it buzzes when starting up, low power, and when you press a button on the remote (e.g. start / stop recording or take photo). This is fine since you can conceal it and set to motion detect (it doesn't buzz apart from once when you activate motion detect), but buzzing on low power means you have to retrieve it fairly soon or hope no-one notices.
4) by default it comes with a timestamp on the lower right corner of the screen that defaults to some time in 2013. You can disable this but the manual tells you make a text file called "timerset.txt" in the root directory of the device when attached as USB storage, when it actually needs to be called "time.txt".
5) the motion detect lags a bit before starting recording (I guess it only scans once a second or so). Also, motion record only triggers for 1 minute of recording time, then stops recording and goes back to scanning so you sometimes miss some action.

overall it's pretty good

I'm actually VERY impressed with this. It's three modes, high/low/strobe which you cycle through by clicking. It's pretty much the perfect size and form factor for the style of switch it uses, it has the classic chinky zoom, and despite what an anon said in a previous thread, it feels pretty sturdy and well-constructed. He was right about the lanyard though, oh boy is this thing cheap feeling.

There's a little LED inside the button that turns on when it's charging and it charges at about 320mah. Really the only negative thing I can say about this other than the lanyard is the beam is a very cool white, slightly cooler than the meme Ultrafire but not quite bluish. A minor complaint. Oh yeah, and it's o-ring sealed which is nice.

I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a rechargeable flashlight.
