snagged this fucker for 120.

Nice big pilot homage by parnis, key point: no chinese shitter movement, real seiko Nh35 inside for relaibility. Considered the tisell but its sold out and a steinahrt, but think its too expensive for this type of watch

honestly steinharts pilots comapred to their divers are overpriced, they have no pressure testing, no depthrating, no added elegance (proper crown, polished dial markers etc) so it should be cheaper. It doesnt even adhere to the retro beadblasting, straight lugs or anything noteworthy which I could pay for.

Will DW make one with the man being cucked with a negro, or Panerai where the guy can't get it up because of the roids? Maybe Vostok doing one with a skinny man masturbating alone to cartoons on his computer.

Or perhaps Omega should do a Speedmaster where a fat Australian man blows a Southeast-Asian ladyboy.

Is it bad to let an automatic watch stop spinning for an extended length of time? I have two 10-year old 7s26 seikos that I let this happen to and they both are running 10s to 20s fast per day. In contrast, a brand new 7s26 I just got is running +/- 5s per day. I can't remember of the 2 old ones were this accurate when I first for them.

Anyone ever been robbed because of the attention brought by your watch? What kind of watch was stolen from you? Do you think your life was spared due to the robber's perceived value of your watch? In other words, do you think you would have been murdered if you only had a $10 Casio at the time? I worry about this scenario because I regularly rely on public transportation late at night.
>>
>>56910757

Whenever I've gone places I considered at all sketchy I've stuck with watches under 250
>>
>>56911010
>>56911059
i plan on the most expensive watches i ever buy being the bm8180 or snk795

attracting attention to yourself is never a good idea, and these two particular watches look nice while still being unassuming.

i've not been mugged before, but as someone who has been in rough places before, i can attest to less being better. my parents criticize me for wearing simple clothing all the time, but i don't stand out at all.

wear black and dark simple clothing. most of my clothes are dark, and they don't have meme shit on them - i don't dress edgy, i dress simple.

also, keep your hair cut short, and go unshaven a few days. the more unkempt you look, the better. when you look like a prissy white boy you will be a target.

i would sometimes wear a dark flannel jacket, jeans , and steel toe brown work boots to the hick town when i go to walmart, but i dress casual when i am in the town i live in.

i've lived in europe, central america, and the US

What do you guys think of Kinetic watches? When I first heard about them I thought they might have mechanical dial movement , but it turns out it's just quartz movement. What's the point? Why not just buy a quartz?
>>
>>56911524
>turns out it's just quartz
Yep
>Why not just buy a quartz
It is a quartz
>>
>>56911558
I mean, why not just get a pure quartz watch with a battery though, it would be even more accurate but instead you get an automatic that a million things could go wrong on
>>
>>56911586
...that has quarts movement anyway
>>
>>56911586
>it would be even more accurate
How
>>
>>56911718
Because it's not dealing with a rotor?
>>
>>56911745
The rotor doesn't regulate accuracy of the movement. A quartz crystal does.

I'm not adverse to beating someone up, I'd honestly rather be dead then have some faggot one over on me and take my watch. But I usually avoid the situation by putting my watch in my pocket when I'm walking home late at night and I see someone sketchy. Been a working class piece of filth I can tell you that 99% of robberies are either drug addicts (I.e. Tell them to fuck off and they will) or are spur of the moments see something they like and want to take it (your watch or shoes). So I just put it in the pocket to avoid trouble

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

What, they ran out of 7750 Valjuoxs?
I can foresee a rehash of this...Hopefully being thinner.

I mean, I know the 7750 is by no means a thin movement, but the Racetimer sits 16mm tall, is this modified 2824 really so much thicker?

Still, atleast it's a top grade 2824 they modded.

Yes, gold is the universal color to attract more grills, only watch thats gotten compliments from random grills. Asked a girl if it matters thats its not solid gold and she said she just likes the colour baka. Also the most compliments by men by far were on my custom invicta, really had a better shine than my sub since I brushed it that way. But some ofc asked if it was a Rolex lol

And ofc you won't get laid because of the Invicta, and only black widows wanna fuck you ahve if you have solid gold piece, to rob you. Gotta have that charm and be able to talk to get laid after that inital ice breaker

Alongside my skx009 it still gets a good bit of wear. I like the 106 case less. The material is okay but the design is worse as far as comfort and style. The bezel is also more clicky in a cheap kind of way. Also, the dial markers are a lot worse on the Casio, as well as the lume. The glossy dial is different, but not necessarily bad. I've treated it like shit and it only has a little knick on the bezel. Pretty sturdy. Not certified, but insane value overall.

Quartz movements are inherently insanely cheap to produce, they're often used in just cheap throw away watches, which by virtue of the fact that they are exactly that, often have poorly designed dials.

quartz in and of itself doesn't necessarily mean a watch is cheap, but it's no surprise when a cheap watch uses quartz.

you can do far better for $300, that much can be said. You can get Accutron Spaceviews for about $300.

>but it's ugly as sin.

I don't think so, clearly subjective call. For instance you might think this watch

>>56908019

is beautiful

But it's not my taste.

I think the Seiko field watches are very nice

People's taste in watches vary, look at this one

How bad is it for a late 20s early 30s guy to roll around with this?

What do you think of the Orient Bambino?

A watch like that looks incredibly tacky on anyone. However, if you lose the bracelet a gold watch becomes far more tolerable.
>>
>>56941198
Ew the goldness.

Much too early for a mid life crisis, anon. Wait another 20 years or so. Meanwhile a Speedmaster will do nicely.

ye, some of them are.
not the snk though.

>shoddy flieger type b rip-off dial
>field watch case and dimensions
>hands that should be in a cheap dive watch

i'm sorry, but it's not a nice looking field watch.
there is a reason it costs $70.
seiko are like any other business.
They aren't going to sell a watch at $70 which looks better or even close to as good as anything more expensive that they sell, like an snzg for example. Or they'd collar sales of other watches with a higher mark-up. That would be bad business.
It's intentionally ugly.

Maybe you personally find it charming, but it's objectively hideous, and there's no two ways around that.
>>
What makes the snzg nicet?
>>
>>56941278
Already had one, got boring real fast.
>>
*nicer
>>
>>56941240
Good watch for the price, a bit large for a dress watch but other than that it's nice.
>>
>>56941545
Snzg looks bad imo.
>That ugly oversized chapter ring.
>"SPORTS 100M"

Only thing it has going for it is its larger size.
>>
>>56941439
seiko 5 has so many variations seems like they just throw shit at wall and see what sticks. which the snk has it's quite popular. not made intentionally ugly to sell more of another watch, they are both low end anyway.
>>56941545
case is more water resistant

hey is there a /wt/ discord?

You probably shouldn't advertise that the word "sports" triggers you so much. But your call

I think they're just trying to convey that it is shock resistant / durable and what not.

I like the watch personally
>>
>>56943334
Yo, how you be able to afford that speedy? You a (retail) banker or some shit? Shiet...

What are the pros/cons of mechanical watches vs. quartz ones?

Do you guys think this would be a decent daily wear watch, or is it too big?
I really like the Sinn aesthetic.
I have a 6.9in/17.1cm circumference (that's proximal to my radio-ulnar joint)
>>56944758
Mainly ease of service (quartz will just need a battery change) and accuracy. I personally like mechanicals more but I see the merit in have a quartz watch.

I would probably put it on one of those distressed ColaReb straps, maybe black or gray.
>>56944288
If you're talking about the speedy pro it's only ~3.5 grand. You can save up for that in a year or two.
>>
I'm actually looking for a good watch for a backpacking type setting. Something pretty water resistant, preferably self charging, and durable. Any suggestions /g/?
>>
>>56944815
I have a 57 and a 65. Both are great. As long as you get a different strap on them that is. It fits great on my wrists, but mine are 7.5in. The lug to lug width is kind of bad though. Depending on how flat your wrists are it might work really well or hang over a bit.
>>
>>56944288

I just saved for it. Not very expensive actually.

It's basically the price of expensive gaming PC. Thankfully for me though, I dont game.

>>56945111
It's around 47mm lug to lug right?
Also, does the chrono reset right away or does it wind back all the elapsed time like some other Seikos do?
>>
>>56944945
gwm5610 gshock (solar atomic) or if you want a mechanical watch maybe seiko skx

Do you mean backpacking like being a vagrant and doing agricultural work to sustain a life style of drinking and fighting? If so wear a cheap one, your watch will probably get stolen

mechanical pros:
>seen as more prestigious
>high end mechanical movements are gorgeous
>mechanical is seen as art, there are few high end quartz watches compared to mechanical
>skeletonize movements/ exhibition case backs are gorgeous in high end movements
>the act of winding and setting a watch feels more "involved", i.e, the interaction makes the watch feel more like a tool than a piece of jewelry.
>mechanical movements tend to be heavier. the weight is equated to worth.

cons:

>expect around +/-15 sec a day in modern mechanical. vintage is around +/-45 sec.
>service is recommended every 5ish years. shits expensive.
>generally more pricey than quartz.

Quartz pros:

>cheap. miyota movements are 7$ a pop.
>incredible accurate, +/-5seconds a month.
>a battery change is usually enough. most quartz watches arent worth a service. When it stops working, the movement is replaced. Much cheaper.
>no winding/ little hand setting due to accuracy.
>japs almost killed the swiss because of quartz. those smug fucks had it coming.

cons:

>cheap. nothing cool about having quartz. there is nothing prestigious about having a little circuit board on your wrist.
>can't """"really""""" be serviced. Nobody will waste their time re soldering an electronic module when its busted. This means less connection as an heirloom and less emotion attachment when it has to be replaced. Unless you don't care and are willing to pay 5 times the value of the component.

If you want a simple tool to tell time and don't really care about brand/ mechanics or whatever, get a cheap quartz. whatever. If you're a colossal autist and wants a piece of mechanical engineering on your wrist, then get a seiko 5.

t. watchmaker and massive autist
