Lol Nvidia. Stuck between nouveau and non-free, non-working drivers
>>

gentoo or arch, you need an up to date kernel for Nvidia drivers right now. It's going to be a problem with any other distro.

Debian still runs better on most hardware. Discrete graphics are really not necessary so its no surprise they aren't well supported.
>>
In Ubuntu you can literally type drivers into the search bar and enable the Nvidia drivers with 2 clicks

Sour grapes, apt-just-fuck-my-shit-up?
>>

Even the stable drivers at the moment are for the wrong kernel, a more up-to-date kernel than Ubuntu has in LTS. That is assuming OP has an 800 series or newer card. I was troubleshooting this same problem yesterday for another /g/ newb. Ended up sending him over to Arch Anywhere.

Lel as if AMD was any better. The Open Source drivers don't even offer full OpenCL support and their proprietary drivers break X every time you update your fucking distro.

Linux is shit. Linux users are autists. Linux users are virgins. Linux users are weebs. Linux users are shit. Linux users are cancer.

Normie for president.
>>
>>56930440
You have to reinstall your driver after every upgrade, before rebooting. This is true for all distributions that provides pre-compiled kernel updates. The package manager downloads a pre-compiled kernel that does not have your driver compiled into its headers, but x.org is configured to load those drivers.

The only thing that's really retarded about this is how x.org causes a kernel panic over this instead of falling back on the default configuration. I feel like a lot of Linux's perceived stability issues revolve around this specific user case and Linux would be a lot more usable if it did this.

Source: I use CentOS with Nvidia drivers.

Read the thread you mongoloid ubunigger. All the stable and testing drivers for 800 and newer series Nvidia cards are broken for Debian and all Debian based distros. If you are using them you are getting about 30% of the performance you can expect from normal linux drivers. This is a known issue and no, it isn't being worked on. Nothing is going to change until there's a newer kernel in Debian that matriculates down.

It gets hot, somewhere around 80-85 max but performs well and has excellent Linux kernel support.

Nvidia currently performs best with propr drivers but AMD kernel drivers are improving very quickly.

I have always used Ubuntu and Debian drivers and I have to say, lately I'm ashamed of myself for it. I'm overcome by the realization that my life is a lie, I don't actually have control over my system. I have to wait for updates just like in Windows or Mac. I don't know what's going on . I'm a fraud and can barely look at my computer or look at myself in the mirror. I am disgusted. I need new eyes to rid me of this humiliation

I don't understand on how people have problems with Linux. I have arch and i3 set up with ati drives. It works perfectly. It took two fucking days to configure everything and I am ricing it a little more everyday with minor teaks, but the system works fine. Yes i still have a windows 10 hard drive for games, but I also have steam for valve games I can play natively on linux.

I rather run a fucking mac than windows though. Once you get the hang of Unix you just can't go back. I have no idea what the hell is going on when I run windows where when I run any other unix based system I know what the hell my computer is doing. Sure I did linux from scratch a few times and installed gentoo as well as spent time trouble shooting tons of issues but I learned so much to the point where I have some grasp of what I am doing now.
>>
>>56940231
You don't understand because you're using a distro that works with you instead of against you. Arch and Gentoo are powerful tools help. Debian and Ubuntu are restrictive tools you have to work around.

Hello LSD gif

You can install arch in about 10 minutes. The is the base system though and anyone who expects something that looks like windows will take a lot longer. Configuring the system, installing a window manger and configuring that will take a lot longer. Sure you can use scripts to cut it down but it will still take awhile.

What about using an installer for the base system takes away control over it once the install is done? I've installed Arch manually dozens of times. Fuck doing things the old fashioned way if I don't have to.
