Thinking of buying the Godspeed SA set but it's ridiculous how expensive it is because I need alphas, modifiers, calculus and norde kit. And I also really want the novelty kit too. All that would cost $188.

aliexpress and occasionally ebay do have high quality PBT keycaps, but if you don't like those sites then give this a try (don't let the design of the website scare you its actually a very good place to buy) http://www.vendio.com/stores/E-sports-Gaming-equipments/category/cateogry1-name/catId=3982960

or
These guys do have a more limited set of PBT keycaps, but if you just want cheap ABS then get the Tai-hao ones

This site is owned by SP and sell keycaps in a variety of profiles (see pic). They are all PBT dye-sub except for SA profile that's double shot ABS. They are on the pricier side of things, but they do have some of the best keycaps you can buy. Also make sure to check which profile you are getting as there is a difference between DCS, DSA, SA, and G20

>Noppoo Lolita Spyder 87
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mechanical-Keyboard-Noppoo-Switches-backlit/dp/B00T1P80XY

Cherry MX is clearly better, but I also like the smaller tenkeyless keyboards which, on this list, only have Kailh and Zorro switches.

Another thing to consider is the fact that my wrists are kinda fucked up and I need some light actuation keys. Are Blues heavier because of the click/bump or does it make little difference compared to Reds? Are blacks even worth it?

I'd appreciate some final thoughts on this choice or even another suggestion.

Get the lolita, judging by what you're saying it'd suit your preferences best and Kalih is a fairly decent OEM, nothing special like gateron, but one of the bigger ones and certainly amongst the more reputable ones.

Blues have a weight of 55g, reds 45g. So yes, blues are a bit heavier than reds, but they're both considered light switches. You probably don't want to bother with blacks if you want something light.

Personally, I consider even 45g to be somewhat heavy right now, but I've been typing on 35g linears for the past three weeks or so. 45g is about the lightest weight that you'll find in commonly available switches.

Blacks are one of the heavier switches out there and the clicking mechanism doesn't offer any significant weight since you bottom out the switch anyway when typing.
If you like smaller compact keyboards why not get a noppoo choc mini?

This is very cool, but now I'm afraid of the blues being too hard. I've always used rubber dome and my 6 year keyboard does feel kind of too hard to type.

Lolita Spyder does come with Reds and costs a bit less. The Choc mini is much better looking by far, though.

>>
>>56925550
rubberdomes average around 80g of force, while laptop chiclet keyboards have round 65g.

Blues on the other hand are around 45g so the weight shouldn't be a problem.

Also the noppoo is more expensive because of the better keycaps and switches (these aren't kailh)

Compact Keyboards are disgusting.

It's a fucking keyboard. Why would you need less buttons? You shouldn't need to use the mouse at all.

Seriously. A lot of people in this thread probably don't even have volume control buttons anymore from the looks of it. I don't know where to begin. Fucking touchscreens have robbed you all of tactile, quick, controls. You're digital paraplegics now.

I'm talking to someone who unironically uses their Smartphone as a PC. Can you open a terminal? Can you install your own software? Do you even have a file manager? But you'd have us believe you use meta keys? Really? for what "app"?

You're struggling to brows this thread right now on your shitty screen. I have 20+ tabs open I can ctrl-pg between, am one alt-tab away from getting back to work, two away from a terminal, one button away from volume, one meta press away from music player control, and I can control the screen brightness with the function keys. Oh and my computer programs have menus.

I'm not even a power user. This is literally how shit gets done, and what's needed to do it. Your shitty phone and shitty keyboard get in the way of working. You are wasting your life on these excuses for personal computing.

Do you even know what the windows key does? Does it do anything on a smartphone? Win-E? Win-D? Why are you wasting your time on such a crippled device when you could have a rich client interface?

Smartphones are cancer. You are infected. Get yourself a real computer.

Literally.

I have never seen a set of such substandard keyboards on display on one page like this before. Never. Anywhere.

Never mind the iDinky little hipster mini-keyboards with no borders. Literally the half way normal keyboards have no number pad. No number pad? I'm in a keyboard general and people are unironically posting boards with no number pad?

None of you are posting wrist rests either. Like, it is beyond obvious that none of you type of any length of time. Function is gone. Only Form remains.

Most people don't ever use it. I don't use it a whole lot myself, and in the event that I do, I just use one of my other seven boards that happens to have one. There's no need to put your mouse the far away from your typing area for the sake of something that you never use.
You can also get standalone numpads for that matter.

>Wrist rest
Wrist rests that are integrated into the keyboard suck ass. You can get plenty of standalone wrist rests in various materials and sizes.
I just use a small towel since it's really comfy and you can just throw it into the washing machine every other week.

I'm honestly not sure if what you're posting is bait or not.

you know if you are programming a lot of these keys are unnecessary. Sure if you use excel all day then having a numpad is the way to go, but a small keyboard that I can place on my already limited desk space that has just the keys I use is perfect for me and a lot of other people on here too.

PBT keycaps feel nicer do to their softer texture. Also it was only an extra 10 bucks for dye-sub PBT keycaps, its not like they are expensive. Sure if you want custom keycaps they will cost more, but standard mass produced high quality keycaps do feel nice
>>
>>56929806
If it matters, I have one gripe with my Magicforce. You can't use modifiers in conjunction with the FN key. So, for example, if you're using Linux, pressing Ctrl + ALT + F2 to access terminal isn't possible. You'll have to make your own shortcuts to work around this problem.

It just a minor nuisance though.

my curiosity can finally be laid to rest. just got the CM switch tester with cherry switches and a novatouch switch.

>it's literally nothing?

well, the novaswitch feels almost exactly like the Dell Quietkey which i love the feel of. the fact that it's cherry mx compatible is nice. still haven't had raw experience with a topre but if its the same nature of switch, i can't say im impressed and definitely would not fork out $200+ for one.

i can confidently scratch a topre of my list of keyboards to own:

layouts owned - 108-key, 104-key w/ macros, TKL, 84-key, 60-key, 1800

kbs by switch - NMB rubberdome, cherry mx red, cherry mx blue, cherry mx black, gateron blue, gateron brown, alps white skcm, matias click

upcoming - tada68 w/ MOD-M switches

last keyboard - something with buckling springs, IBM Model M but probably unicomp since windows key

the TX 1800 is very expensive at $350. A cheaper option would be a second hand g80-1800 series keyboard as they usually go for around 70-90 bucks. Pic related is the g80-1865 model

Why is it that most Topre keyboards on massdrop come bundled with useless junk.

I bought a rosewill800 for $18 on eBay, its apparently still in the box. Wish me luck on my first mech
>>
>>56941808
you mean the RGB one? Not bad since they usually cost $50 brand new.
>>
do any of you guys use an alternative to qwerty such as dvorak or colemak? azerty/qwertz/etc fags need not apply
>>
>>56929423
What board is that man? It looks great!
>>
>>56942518
That is just a generic 3D render. But plenty of keyboards from Ducky, Varmilo and KBP look like that
>>
>>56941643
They bundle high margin items they can cut down in order to make the keyboard they have no wiggle room on look cheaper.
eg: $280 keyboard + $120 earbuds, but the buds are all markup.

Anyone know of problems with the noppoo choc mini on Windows 10? I've been using my mini on various XP/Win7 machines for years with no problems, but today I tried it on a new Win10 machine, and only the letter and number keys work. Keys to the right of 0, p, l, and m don't do anything. Anyone seen this? Thoughts on how to fix? I don't want to go back to a shitty dell keyboard.

So I'm putting together a 60% keyboard.
I have two questions-
Firstly for the GH60, I see plastic cases for it- it looks like they're clones of the Pok3r cases, is this correct? I may upgrade to the Aluminum case for it at some point, if I find one cheap enough.

Secondly, I see plates for the top (so I can make the switches plate mount), will these plates work with these plastic cases I see?

Picture is an example of the plastic cases I'm seeing.
>>
>>56944570
As long as the plate has cutouts to be able to screw the PCB in, sure.
>>
>>56944635
So the plate on top would just screw in to the same holes that the PCB (GH60 in my case) would normally, correct? This is my first time assembling my own keyboard (been using a mech keyboard for years) so I'm just trying to visualize everything before I spend money on it
>>
>>56944674
The plate would just have a hole wide enough for the PCB itself to be screwed in. The plate doesn't get screwed in.
>>
>>56944674
If you already have the plate then ignore this, but if you don't one of these should work

Is there any mech keyboard with an ergonomic design similar to a MS comfort curve?

>>56944742
VE.A, matias ergo pro, truly ergonomic. Take your pick.

>>56944742
not really
>>
>>56944705
That's what I was trying to describe, the hole on the PCB and the plate would line up with the threading on the plastic case and the screw would just hold both into place, correct? do I need any extra spacers or anything to separate it from the PCB so there's no short?
>>56944715
This is the kind of plate I'm looking at. The only question I have is about stabilizers. I saw a few on Aliexpress that specify Cherry stabs or Costar stabs. Are they generally universal or am I shopping for a specific type for Cherry stabs

Are the blue (as in blue case, not switches) Majestouches limited edition or something? I got one years ago, but I don't think they're available anymore.

Anyone have recommendations for a good set of replacement keycaps that don't clash with the case?

I'm using an Apple Extended Keyboard II I found in my dad's basement, and I like it a lot. Is it worth upgrading to a Model M?
>>
>>56946303

If you do upgrade though I'll buy your keyboard.
>>
>>56946314
kek, I've drawn on it with white-out and sharpie to rearrange some keys and add volume up/down/mute keys with sharpkeys and AHK. Are AEK2s too rare to find on ebay or something?
>>
>>56946370
No but they are overpriced as hell and are usually in awful condition.

But yours is too apparently so nevermind.
>>

I don't get all those shitty overengineered fifty sublevel programmable keyboards.

my Model M has lasted me ages, and it's all I'll ever need for the serious typing I do (40 pages a day)

I think most of you just have those keyboards to show off, instead of doing real work with them. The keycaps look too new, and there is no gunk, dust and crumbs on them
