I moved from Canada to Thailand and I'm trying to use a Thai sim card on my phone, but I am having troubles.

Right now the Thai sim card is network locked, and I don't know how to unlock it. I read that I needed to call my previous ISP and get the code from them. I gave them my IEMI code that I got a few days ago and they gave me a code to use, and it didn't work.

Can someone help me and or tell me why my explorer looks like this after I have been playing witcher 3?

I've got an old HP Netbook sitting around, and want to install a lighter OS on it than the Windows 10 that it automatically updated to the first time I plugged it in. I'd ideally like to give it to my mom for use on Facebook and maybe Netflix.

Got any recommendations for a distro? Specs are not great. 1.66GHZ Atom, 1 GB Ram. I would just like something light for mobile web browsing use and maybe netflix. Something easy for her to figure out that won't require any maintenance on my part. Something not-Windows so I never have to clean it for malware like I do her XP-era desktop whenever I come to visit.

What are signs a power supply is going out?

My computer now doesn't turn on unless I hit the power button, wait for it to do some weird half boot and shut back off. And before it turns back on and off again I hit the switch on the back wait 5-10 seconds and turn it back on then when I hit the power button it fires back up as normal.

It's the weirdest fucking thing.

Alright I just updated Windows 10 and I'm having a few annoyances

First, is there any way to get rid of cortana and get the usual search box back? When it just says 'search the web and windows'

Second, is there any way to move or get rid of the notification icon on the far right? It used to be to the left of the date and time, not having the time in the corner is really pissing me off.

Third, you know how in Windows explorer you resize your icons in a library and then when you enter a folder all the icons are that size? That isn't happening. I have to have to resize them for each goddamn folder, what the fuck?

Is it possible to do a clean install of a linux distro on a system that is already in a windows/linux dual boot configuration, such that the windows partitions remain untouched whereas the existing linux partitions are deleted, manually re-partitioned, and used for installing the new linux distro?

I set up the dual boot config and did the partitioning manually some years ago and I no longer remember how / why I did the partitions, thankfully I didn't fuck up my windows install at the time but I do remember messing up the MBR and having to use a live GRUB rescue USB, everything worked fine after that up until now that I want to use a different linux distro and have no idea how to go about it without fucking something up.

Anyone mind doing a quick TL;DR: on how to make this happen safely, or point me to intermediate-friendly resource where I can read up on it?

I've made some progress, it now gives 5 beeps. Yes the fans are spinning at max. 5 beeps apperantly means CMOS battery. It is a CR2032 battery, I've tried replacing it with a CR2025 but sadly that doesn't do it. I've also done a CMOS reset, by using the jumper. But it still gives 5 beeps. It won't go into BIOS.

So logical step would be buying a CR2032 battery right? I'm asking this because I've read that it should be possible to get into the BIOS without the battery.

The *slot* will fit it. Both use PCIe 16x slots. However I see the 550ti card itself is shorter than the 780, so there are 2 possible problems you can run into:
- Dickhead motherboard designers put some heatsink or plug in the way or long cards. Look at the board and if there's anything tall directly behind your GPU, you might have problems.

Hi everyone.

I recently got my RX 480 in the mail and I've noticed it's got a rather strange idle temperature.

I've got all the drivers installed, played some games yesterday, does it all well and dandy. But when I'm doing nothing, or when I'm doing very minimal stuff (i.e. Skype (not even video calliing), Youtube videos, etc.), the temperature is in the high almost constantly above 53 degrees celsius. How can I make this thing run cooler? Is this just an AMD card thing? Is this a side-effect of not going Nvidia?

Also I've noticed, since coming to this thread, the clock is fluctuating between 400mhz and 800mhz. Before opening Chrome, it was at a constant 300mhz.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm looking for a program that I saw discussed here a while back in a thread about file organizing with an OP pic like this.

I think it was named Hydra or something like that, and I think it was Windows-only. Someone described it as basically being a booru on your local machine, with extensive tagging and searching capabilities.

Anyone able to point me to where I can find it? Searching for Hydra doesn't give me much besides comic books and a ruby library. I checked the /g/ wiki and didn't see it mentioned there either.

Sounds fucked. You want to un-update, but you can't open the Settings app, where you'd usually do it, directly from Task Manager. So you have to get there a different way.
1. Task Manager, File->Run new task, type in "control" and hit OK. Control Panel should open.
2. In the search box, type "uninstall". The results should include "Programs and Features". Click that.
3. Click "View installed updates" in the left column.
From there you should be able to remove some recent updates and see if that helps you.

If that still doesn't fix it, System Restore to a time when it worked.
1. Task Manager, File->Run new task, systempropertiesadvanced. That will open the old System Properties dialog.
2. Click the System Protection tab.
3. Click the System Restore button.

I was moving 2 folders on a NAS drive from one folder to another. Dialog "administrator priveldges needed" to move this, clicked ok twice. It created the folders at the destination location but the files are missing inside. Can I recover these files or am I fucked?

I made a directory tree using a bash script. Only problem is that it doesn't work properly unless I first include an mkdir $3 (third commandline entity) line before I go into creating the tree using loops.

I'm on Win7 Ultimate SP1. Hooked directly into my modem via ethernet cable.

i've got this Acer laptop, not sure how old it is, about 2 years maybe.

it runs real hot, i looked at speccy and tried running Age of Empires on it to test it, and it shoots up to like 140 degrees celcius and konks out soon after.

idling, it can sit anywhere from 80 to 90 degrees celcius. this thing is going to fucking fry itself, how can i salvage it? i've tried unclogging vents with dust, not much noticeable difference.

Not him but the only good quality Acer product i have used are the 2-1 tablets, 2 years and the battery still lasts 8 hours and trough miracles the eMMC still hasn't fucked up.

I got a raspberry pi 3, and I currently use my logitech wireless keyboard to type commands. Thing is, I was wondering if there was some way I could "link" my laptop keyboard to that logitech receiver inside the pi, so that I could type on my laptop and whatever commands I put, show up on the raspberry pi which is connected to my TV. I use the raspberry pi for just an emulator to play with my friends, and having to drag around a large, keyboard rather than my laptop is annoying.

If you can access the drive directly with a computer, you can use Testdisk to look for the deleted files. They'll most likely appear in the original or new directory, in red to indicate they're deleted. You can then use the C key to copy them out to another drive. Then when you're done using Testdisk, copy them back.

Of course if the data that used to be those files has been (partially) overwritten, the files are (partially) lost.

Is there any phone app or computer mic software that does noise rejection like Amazon Echo? Or would I need an actual hardware array like Echo does?

The reason I need the 960 is that Nvidia doesn't have XP drivers for the 980, however it DOES have drivers for the 960. However simply plugging in the hdmi to the 960 doesn't work, and from Nvidia control panel there doesn't appear to be an option to simply "switch" the active GPU. GPU passthrough doesn't seem to be an option, it only works in Linux, at least on virtualbox. I don't want to have to manually switch out the GPU just to play the odd XP game, so is there another way?

i5-6600k and Windows 10 running and XP host. Everything runs faster in 3d accelerated mode but for some reason Steam just won't work properly, even though it did before when I wasn't using 3d mode. I tried some older games like Doom and Duke 3d, they worked fine in DOSBox, the Doom sourceport I used didn't work at all though but it probably just doesn't support XP.
