It appears amazon.co.jp now ships some keyboards internationally - referring to Filco, most Topre and HHKB in JP layouts here.

They're several models for like 20 bucks, which isn't that bad for an old alps keyboard. Also in some models you can switch them to qwerty with a lever on the back

razer blackwidow ultimate 2014 (we all make mistakes). I generally like the keyboard, but I am starting to get chattering (double key press events) with certain keys and could stand a slightly higher actuation force than the kalih green switches in the deathstalker.

Well, after 25 years of computing it had to happen. On six hours of sleep in two days, I turned in a fugue and knocked an entire 8oz of rum and coke, somehow perfectly directly into my baby.

Computer was immediately turned off but..The thing poured 4oz of drink out of the casing. I'm going to assume electrical fault and that the switches and pcb are ruined.

What are my options? You can replace the PCBs with aftermarket stuff, right?

What's wrong with TKL? Should I have gotten a full size?

I really don't know the extent of the damage. You might might fine if you bathe it 99% rubbing alcohol. Some of the rum might have gotten into the keys making them sticky, in which case I'd say take them apart and clean them. If you want to get a new PCB you have to desolder the old switches and put them on the new one, maybe you need to buy new switches?.
Also you don't need to get a pcb, you can always buy some resistors and swithces then hand wire the keyboard to a Teensy controller then place it in your old case.
Here's a place to get you started

you can get cheap alps keyboards for around 40 bucks on ebay. Dell AT101W actually has better build quality for its switches then anything cherry can come up with
If you want one for a Mac then get an AEK (pic related). They also use alps switches and cost the same
>>
>>56556473

A spill's not that big a deal as long as it doesn't short the actual control circuitry. The switch matrix literally functions by shorting so it gives no fucks if all its contacts are suddenly shorted together.

You need to clean it before the acid does permanent damage. You can disassemble it and wash everything with water. You can even put it through the dishwasher (no detergent, no dry cycle).

Water will not hurt it while it's completely unpowered. The real challenge will be drying it out afterward, which can literally take weeks for water trapped inside the switch mechanisms. Keep it somewhere warm and dry or surround it with dried rice to encourage evaporation.
>>
>>56556483
TKL os a useless size.
It's for people who want less space taken up by the board yet they still have stuff like a nav cluster arrow and f keys.

And even if you need those keys you could just get a 75%
>>

some of us like our numpads on the left
>>
>>56556596
the selection for 75% keyboards is limited though to be fair, choc mini is great but you can't easily get keycap sets for it, i can understand if people prefer TKL just because the selection is more limited, not many brands make 75%

So I need to buy to expensive keyboards?

To be honest here I feel for the TKL meme and bought a Tomoko for 30 bucks a while back. I missed the numpad more then I thought I would so I went and got one for cheap. Placing it on the left however is something I do not regret as it feels so much more comfortable then what I had before. I can keep my hand on my mouse and use my thumb to press any of the keys on the right side (arrows, PG up/dn, etc)

To elaborate if this was something wrong with Ducky's manufacturing process then the whole keyboard will be fading. Probably because it's cheap. Best dome keyboard is Topre, which isn't even membrane. If you want an actual good membrane keyboard for cheap find a really old one that hasn't been used much on ebay, as rubber dome over membrane used to be decent way back when.

Quality is allright, not too fancy or thick, but it has no imperfections. Color is very different from the real dolch IRL tho.

Well it's ABS so it will wear over time. It's doubleshot so you won't have to worry about your legends fading, but with ABS you'll always get shine eventually, which some people hate and others don't mind.

Not sure if that's what you're referring to by your current keys fading.

>>
So does noone actually have any experience from Unicomp? i have watched a ton of reviews and since they use the exact same molds and stuff im gonna guess they also last as long as normal Model M's
>>
>>56582210
enjoy that shipping and tax then
>>
>>56582238
i think like one or a few guys in here have them if he/they are still around but people elsewhere are saying that they aren't as good as the originals and the molds are showing their age (they get distorted the more they use them)
>>

>enjoy that shipping and tax then
6 keycaps are much cheaper then getting a whole keyboard anon.
>>
90$ + 70$ shipment + tolls = a lot of moneies

but i guess you have gotta pay a price for what you like

>>
>>56582367
I hope that cable is detachable because it looks like it will fray easily

>>

>>
>>56582487

>>
>>56582513

First time considering getting a mechanical keyboard, and I have two questions:
>What are the pros and cons of a mechanical keyboard compared to other keyboards?
>What is the cheapest one I can buy in Russia that is pretty reliable?
>>
>>56582554
The noise! The sound when you bottom out your key press on the keyboard differs with switch type and backplate. People do enjoy the sound it makes.
Durability. They are built more durable than membrane keyboards most of the time. Should be able to last longer than you expect.
Consistent type feeling. They don’t wear out as fast as those membrane keyboards.
Customization. Feeling bored with your keyboard? You can customize many part of your keyboard to make it truly yourself. (Keycaps, backplates, casing, etc.)
Custom DIY keyboards. If assembling the keyboard parts by parts sounds fun to you. Again, you can customize it yourself as much as you can.
Improves your typing. Whether speed wise or accuracy wise. Many people have improved typing skills when they switch to mechanical keyboard. (Of course you might type faster on other type of keyboards, but from what I see most people gained some speed buff and accuracy buff after switching to mechanical)
Backlights. Of course there are membrane keyboards with cool lighting effects too but brands like Corsair, CM Storm, Ducky, Razer has some mechanical keyboard with sick backlighting effects. You can turn them off anyway if you don’t like them

some of the pros
>>
>>56582554
The noise! Some people prefer to keep their typing enjoyment low profile. Though there are certain more silent switches but in general mechanical switches are noisier than membranes.
Price. They cost a lot more to produce than membrane keyboards. They do get it justified for their better quality and durability.
Portability. Most of the time they are bigger and heavier than the membrane keyboards so they are not as portable. Might be a problem for you when you need to carry it around.
You can’t go back to those shitty (just kidding) membrane keyboards after you have typed on a mechanical keyboard. Membrane keyboards feel awful to you, you could hear your fingers complaining to you. You will miss your dear mechanical keyboard whenever you type on something else.
Addiction. You have used your mechanical keyboard for a period of time now. Now you feel like trying out another switch type. You are looking for a new keycap set. You are comparing ABS vs PBT keycaps. You feel like getting a 60% layout keyboard now. You are wondering if that Filco keyboard really feels better than your current one. You might think only one mechanical keyboard is not enough for you. Congratulations!

Some of the cons

They feel nice to use and are highly modular.

Most of what >>56582612 said.

If you're in russia, you can probably find some gaymurr crap boards from corsair and razer. If you can find a cooler master board, I'd suggest getting that, otherwise a chinkboard like the magicforce.
>>
>>56581753

I love that concept, but not ortholinear, so into the trash it goes.

This is a good point, actually. An mk might not be the best choice if you routinely type in public areas (libraries, coffee shops, etc.) or if you have a roommate(s).
>>
>>56582676
you're a straight autist if you bring a separate keyboard to libraries and coffee shops
>>
>>56582676
There are plenty of quiet mechanical keyboards, many are even quieter than most rubber domes.

Is ducky one TKL pretty good for someone who's looking for TKLs in general?

I'm looking to
play rhythm gaymes
Are those G20 keycaps? How do you like them?
>>
Serious question guys, is it possible to find a cheap chink mechanical keyboard that is as/almost as good as, lets say, a Corsair K65 RGB or a CM QuickFire? Preferably TKL.

russian here, you're fucked m8 mechs are non-existent here and theres only gaymer crap like razer which was already mentioned

got a rapid-i off avito for 4.5k its still mint condition, pretty cool

my advice is wait for someone to sell theirs or order from france/germany but we both know what kind of money ~120 euro + shipping is in rubles
