Marias clicky and matias quiet click and Realforce owner here.
Matias tactile is better if you like clicky, seeing as they are the best modern clicky switch. Topre is good if you like feeling good oneness with cup rubber.
Disadvantage of Alps is it's impossible to get good keycaps, while realforce boards come with the best keycaps you can get.

It's a 200-something bucks kit from aliexpress. Don't know the link since this is provided by the school that I'm attending, though if you're interested I could ask the instructor.

The motors can execute movements of 1/300th of a millimeter. Here's a cutout that was done with another machine like this earlier today, and that's with shitty composite that fuzzes at the edges.

No thread on /diy/, but I'll be setting up a simple blog-style website sometime in the next few weeks if you're interested in keeping track of that and the things that I'll make with it.

It uses an arduino to interface between the computer and the machine. There's another PCB on which the arduino sits that has another chip on it. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of that one, or the name of the software that we use. Though you're not the first to ask me, hit me up again tomorrow and I'll be able to tell you everything you want to know about the machine.

most of the model F was built with metal. Even if the chinks were to do it it would still be very expensive. Just think what the shipping costs of a 10 lbs keyboard would be
>>
>>56590326

Model Fs weigh between 5-9lbs depending on variant but most of your cost in shipping anything substantial is on the first pound. Also chinks pay fuck-all for shipping.

I'd gladly settle for a Model-M like build though, with a modern layout, not-shit rivets and the F's capacitive switches.

>>56588041
>>56587335
Gaterons are smoother then cherry mx switches and alps/matias are more tactile then both. Kailh, Outemu, KBT are also cherry clones that feel about the same.
My preference is tactile and loud switches which is why I have an IBM model M with buckling springs, but if you want linear switches then reds and blacks are the way to go. If you want tactile switches stay away from browns as the tactile bump that cheery uses is pretty bad. Matias makes really nice alps clones which is what I would go for.

Like blues but heavier, smoother, and a higher actuation, and deeper sound. Pretty much universally agreed to be better than green. Go look up an Alps white typing demonstration because the sound is the best part.

Hi. I'm new to mechanical keyboards. I bought a Qisan Magicforce about 2 weeks ago. It has Cherry MX Green Switches. I really like it.
I have one problem though. In Linux, I can't open the terminal using Ctrl+Alt+F2. Because my keyboard has no functions key row, I have to hold down the function key and press 2 while entering in this combination of keys, but unfortunately the key combination doesn't work.

Does anyone know of a solution to my problem?
>>
So, I'm wanting to mod the hell outta an already existing keyboard, I've got a budget of $100 total, spent $33 on switches and $15 on caps, so i've got around $50 to spend on a board. I was thinking about getting a cheap chinese boards, like a tokomo board since the price and the switches don't matter so long as they're cherry clones, but it's got that "floating key" style thing going on and I don't wanna go about making a faceplate if I can get one that already has one.

I really like the look of the CM Storm Quickfire rapid, but that's out of the price range, even used. I'm looking for something very professional, square, and simple, and those keyboards that are just the floating key style without a faceplate just don't have the look I'm going for.

just to simplify

Whaddya on about now.
>>
>>56592499
Because all the ones I'm finding are almost the price of an entire cheap board for just a PCB. Many of the ones i find that aren't $60 just for a PCB don't have widely available cases, so you have to make it yourself and I'm not planning on building a whole keyboard from the ground up.
>>
>>56592560
What are you even doing?
>>
>>56592593
As stated in the post, take a TKL board, and replace the switches on it with some gateron reds since i can only seem to find gateron reds on 60% boards that cost a pretty penny for it's size and the fact that it's, technically, using chinese knockoff switches.

Now, I'm looking for something like a cm storm quickfire rapid or a ducky one tkl, in terms of design. Simple, square, flat, not-gaudy, and that has a faceplate.
>>
>>56592692
Then why are you even asking just find something that is cheap it doesn't matter
>>
What board should i get for ≤80$? Things I care about are no shitty gamer fonts and the numpad.
I don't care if the switches aren't Cherry.

I live in Europe if that matters.

I'm partially going for looks too, and every cheap board i'm finding has the flat floating key look without a faceplate. I want something with a faceplate and i can find nothing with one in my price range.
I've asked on here before about keyboards and people have brought up boards that i didn't even know about, which is why i'm asking. I wanna know if there's anything within my price range that's TKL with a faceplate.

Blue ALPS are the best, but as you noticed they're expensive/difficult to get a hold of. Complicated and simplified white ALPS are fairly common in older keyboards so they're far easier to get (esp. simplified). Blues are the smoothest of the three and have the deepest clicking sound. Complicated whites are a bit less smooth and higher pitched than blues. Simplified whites are a bit less tactile than complicated whites. All three of these ALPS switches are deeper sounding and more tactile than cherry blue/green/white.

Matias tactile switches are basically simplified white ALPS and they're a pretty good modern replacement for them.

con't:
The difference between complicated and simplified ALPS is the contact mechanism: Simplified just uses two metal contact leaves that get pushed together by the slider. Complicated switches have a whole little assembly housing the contacts like a plastic and metal sandwich, where the slider pushes one contact through a little window to touch the other. The complicated mechanism adds noticeably to the switch tactility, so those ones are more tactile and generally more highly regarded.

The keyboard literally isn't capable of sending that key combination. The Fn key doesn't function correctly in conjunction with any other modifiers, so it's impossible to ctrl-alt-Fkey. You can probably guess the designers didn't have Linux in mind.

Want to create/solder my own keyboard for fun and because I've never done it before.

What's the best keyboard parts I can buy for $500 and what exactly do I need?

>What is mechanical feeling?

Usually rubber dome with slider, where the slider and slider well are modified to interact and produce extra tactility.

Pic related; it's a Thermaltake Knucker dome with slider. Note the construction.

seems interesting. not too sure about em though that could just be due to having only used cherry switches in the past.
>>56591692
>>56591776
yeah i'm probably gonna wind up going 60%. thanks for your suggestions! i'm leaning more towards poker for the aforementioned "i've only used cherry and change scares me" reasoning but i'm at least considering the v60.

You can find all kinds of kits on AliExpress, though with that budget, gonskeyboardworks and winkeyless.kr would probably be more interesting to you.

Or you could design your own PCB and have it printed, get your case cut/milled or also do that yourself and also makes/have someone laser cut you a switch plate.

You mean doing custom builds on request?

Probably not until the start of next year. I need to set up a website, and I want to get more experience with various materials before I start doing this kind of stuff for pay. I don't always care about perfection if its something for myself, but if I'm selling something with my name on it, I sure as hell will.

if a company describes a keyboard as cherry mx with out saying the colour, what colour will they be?

most likely black cherry switches like the old POS keyboards since the 80s

Where do I get control-keys or entire keycap sets for the Logitech G710+? I tried online and every time the CTRL-keycaps are already sold out, Logitech support doesnt answer either.
Someone told me I have a nonstandard botrtom row and I cant find info on where I can get a specific bottom row either

Sorry but most keycap sets don't support the non standard layouts that corsair and logitech use. Some GB may include these extra keys if you need, but I recommend you ask first or else you end up like pic related

Can anybody inform me the exact dimensions of a 6.00 spacebar and a 6.25 one? Looking to order keycaps for my keyboard and I cannot find a template explaining it for my specific keyboard or any dimensions based off of measurement

I hope this helps but take your spacebar out and place it on your keycaps. If it fits over 6 of them then its a 6.00u spacebar. Mine fits a bit over 6, bit less then half so its a 6.25u spacebar
>>
>>56596099
What's a GB
Also, the problem is, i NEED control-keys, absolutely. They are both broken, I need to press the switch instead.
>>
>>56596160
>>56596265
If you want a better measurement take out 6 keycaps and place them next to each other, then put your spacebar right besides them. 6u will be as long as 6 keycaps, 6.25 will be a bit longer then 6 keycaps

what do you mean? The switch is broken or the keycaps are broken?
GB means group buys. If you look at the deskthority and geekhack fourms you see people hosting GB for keycap sets like pic related
>>
>>56596379
The keycaps are broken. the little cross that fits on the key has lost 3 of its 4 sides, so it can't stay on the switch anymore.
what good is a damn GB for a new keyset if the lower row is included in no single keyset?

Is there such a thing as a quiet mechanical keyboard? I hate the loud ass clicker clack but I love the feel.
>>
>>56596840
all keyboards produce noise if you bottom out, even rubberdomes. The best solution might be to buy a linear switch like blacks then replace the springs with something heavier like
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1868.
Of course you can also buy pads and O-rings to help dampen the noise as well

>Budget
<200€

>Location

>Preferred switch type
Still researching, but preferably little to no noise. I do slam my keys with considerable force to make enough noise for me. Will mostly be used for video games, but nothing that requires a large amount of inputs at a time.

>Layout
ANSI, preferably with nordic inputs

>Form factor
TKL

>Backlight
Yes, preferably with a on/off switch.

>Previous/current keyboards
G15 what I've grown to detest.

>>
What's the best switch among the "lighter" ones?
>>
>>56596840
Thirding Matias quiet. I've got a Quiet Pro PC and it makes less noise than my old HP rubbersome. The keys are dampened on both the down and up stroke, so they don't clack popping back up either.

For linears, reds and gateron clears.
For tactile switches, blues and maybe gateron browns. Don't bother with cherry browns, they suck.
