Is there a stable CyanogenMod release for the Xiaomi Mi5?
I'm searching for a new phone that's not too big (kinda the reason why i opt out of 5.5' devices) and according to the wiki Mi5 has the best bang for your buck right?
>>
Previously had an iPhone 4 from 2010 until May. It broke finally after a stellar season. Bought a stop-gap ZTE T815 as I was getting a phone through work, but took a new job that didn't come with one so I have to buy one myself. I'm agnostic to the iOS/Android thing.

What I want:
> good camera for stills
> storage for music (either phone, or expandable)
> good DAC for music

What I don't want:
> something tiny
> something enormous
> something with plastic everything

Budget is $600AU. This is what I've shortlisted:
> iPhone SE 16Gb - $549
> OnePlus 2 64Gb - $499
> OnePlus 3 64Gb - $575
> LG Google Nexus 5X 32GB - $419
> Samsung Galaxy S6 32Gb - $549
> Nexus 6P 32Gb - 32Gb - $579

I think the OnePlus 3 is the forerunner, but only issue is it doesn't support 700 MHz band which is used by my provider (Telstra) for 4Gx; they have other bands they use. I live in a metro area though so it seems not a deal breaker, but I'm not really knowledgable on this.

What y'all think?
>>

No. Do not.
>>
So I have a Compact z5 and I like the camera app, is there anything better? what about for editing pictures?
>>
>>56451074
Am I right in thinking the OnePlus is a great deal at its price point?
>>
>>56451074
OP3 is shit and it doesn't support the 700mhx band his carrier uses... read his post lol
>>
>>56451190
Missed that part. If anon didnt need that band OP3 is way better though, you can't argue that. The only thing that matches it in specs on his list is Nexus 6P
>>
>>56451211
he also has a good camera as a priority, and OP3 got nothing on the S6's lens.
I would still recommend the S6 over the OP3. If your next argument against the S6 is touchjizz then he can just fix it up with a new rom
>>
>>56451240
My arguement is not touchwiz as I used Samsung in the past. My issue is the S6 has the worst battery out of any of the recent samsung phones. S5 and S7 are significantly better. Unless this has been fixed with 6.0
>>
>>56451016
Axon 7
Mi 5
Zuk Z2
RN3P.

Don't bother with S6, shit battery and lagwizz.
And don't buy any phone with SD810 housefire e.g. 6P OP2.
And not a fucking iPhone.
>>
>>56451295
I had the s6 and the battery wasn't terrible. it can be optimized with root and greenify and a doze-like xposed module
>>
>>56451360
Shouldn't have to though
>>
>>56451379
Agreed
>>
>>56451190
>>56451211

OP3 (Europe/Asia) has:
> FDD-LTE: Bands 1/3/5/7/8/20
> TDD-LTE: Bands 38/40/41

Provider (Telstra) I'm with uses 1/3/5/7/28/40
> Band 1 = 2100MHz
> Band 3 = 1800MHz
> Band 5 = 850MHz
> Band 7 = 2600MHz
> Band 8 = 900MHz
> Band 28 = 700MHz

Does that I mean I won't get 4G on the network? I have no idea about this shit.
>>
>>56451545
Check willmyphonework.net it says you might get 4G but it's probably better to ask someone else who has actually tried it
>>
>>56451584
> 4G LTE: Band8-900MHz, Band3-1800MHz, Band7-2600MHz
> Device is compatible with some of the network carriers frequencies. It may work.

Thanks mang!
>>
>>56450970
Sadly no, there is a Mokee rom though on XDA but I have no idea how trustworthy that is.

Xiaomi is a bitch as always and doesn't release the kernel sources of their device so CM won't pick that device up.

There is a unofficial build though so you can go and check that one out.

Ok guys, first time posting in this general.
I RMA'd my Note 4 and they replaced it with a S7 Edge because was impossible for them to source the motherboard.
Should i keep it or try to sell it for around 600 eurobucks and buy a Note 7 instead?

Thank you

I know that the current cells are full fledged grenades, obviously i'll wait some time before buying it.

Also, does the screen curvature of the S7E interfere with the viewing experience or nah?
>>
>>56451848
a friend of mine has it and he's happy with it in every aspect except for it being a bit fragile

it's very sturdy for an all-glass phone, but it's still fragile

>>
>>56451893

if you aren't a clumsy mess you shouldn't be bothered by the all-glass build.

you can try youtubing s7 edge drop/smash tests to see how sturdy it is
>>
>>56451940

the only time I've found it too slippery is when I've had chalk on my hands(the s7e I'm referring to is my coaches and I've tried it a few times)
it feels fine when holding it under normal circumstances.

i bought a galaxy s3 neo duos last year, which was a 2014 reproduction of the s3 intended for the arab world, and it also has neat features such as unlocked radio.

the problem is that its too fucking big. i have been using the galaxy exhibit for the longest time, and in the case pictured it measures 5in by 2.75in. the galaxy s3 with a case measures 6in by 3.5in. it is bulky and uncomfortable for me, and i'm thinking of giving it to my mother.

do any of you know a smaller phone, in the ranges of 3.8in to 4.3in at most that is gsm unlocked and has an 8mp camera? that is the only reason i want to switch from my little beater phone, i'm sick of the low quality 5mp camera.

is the galaxy s4 mini the only option? not considering the iphone se bc i like replaceable battery and microsd.

My Z1 was bulletproof, I sold it to a friend and hes still using it now. Freakishly long battery life from 4000mAh on a snapdragon 801. Great build quality and audio output, CyanogenOS is clean and the stock UI is aesthetic and runs fast. Only drawback for me was the big bezels, it's large for a 5.5" phone.

Overall I highly recommend it, great value.

Yes. It's good. CM13 is smooth as fuck. Holds up pretty well
>>
>>56453140

No, I never asked for advice before buying this.

Major things: The bluetooth audio frequently distorts and or disconnects for no reason. The GPS takes ages to lock on.

Minor things:

It's weirdly heavy and thick with sharp edges and feels unpleasant to hold. The non-stock parts of the UI like the status bar icons and notification shade are poorly designed, inconsistent and ugly.
>>
>>56453140

Oh, and the mobile network randomly drops instantly from full signal to no signal now and again too.

Sure, as long as it's the 3GB one, for RAM reasons and the fact that you can't move apps to the SD.
The Redmi Note 4 Pro will probably come out in January, and it will probably carry the SD 652, which has the same performance as the 650.

Pretty much anything as long as it's not chinkshit, they really cut the budget on accesories.
I'm using one from one of my older Samsung phones and works fine.
Used one from my iPod and it works fine too.

I sorely need to root this Sony Xperia m2 I'm using right now.
It looks simple enough to do but I don't have access to a computer.

Their are various apps that say they can do it without a computer but I don't want to risk using them because that just sounds too convenient. And it will probably install bloatware anyway.

Okay so I was about to order the OnePlus 3 yesterday

Then I learned about how """bad""" the pentile display is (and mediocre reception)

So now I'm looking at the Huawei Honor 8 64GB. It's priced 16% higher than the OnePlus 3 in my country.

It really seems like a much better phone, for not much more money?

Non pentile display, dual cameras (I'm a /p/haggot), microSD and it seems to be much nicer """looking""" and 1080p at 120fps.

I don't give a shit about 4k recording.

All other features seem to match (USB type C, fast charging etc)

What's the catch?

What are good alternatives to the Google store if I wanted to rid myself of Google on my phone? Already using fdroid, but is there a reasonably safe Google store mirror that doesn't require an account and keeps things updated?
>>
>>56461289
Did they give an estimation on how long until the phone boot loops?

why do iphones look so fucking ugly and cheap?
they have the worst asthetics on the market. both physical design and OS look like total shit.

does anyone notice these phones look terrible? really - nobody??

can you honestly slap a high price tag on anything and market it as a luxury item,
and will idiots really believe this?

amazing

Google is really slacking

yes the bootloop is the realest problem we re facing. What is it like exactly ? does it make the phone unusable until it's battery dies ? (I wasn't really following the news about lg)

It makes the phone unusable forever. Once it starts you have to RMA it and you can't recover any data.

Why would you need to wait for you phone to be delivered to process any sort of paperwork like that. This has happened to me before with things other than phones and it always gets taken care of immediately. It just seems sketchy that they want me to wait, like they're going to tell me to piss off. And why would they ask me if I'd received the order, when I just placed it yesterday? I gave them the order number, it's not like they can't check exactly the status of the order.

>go cellphone shopping for the first time in two years
>is frustrated because i was too dirtpoor to get a model with FM radio even though i like radio when i bought my current phone
>enter a store that servers all the carriers in my city with about 50+ phone models
>ask for a phone that supports FM radio
>"Uh I don't have any, except maybe this one. I'm not sure."
>It's an old Moto G piece of shit

Why are carriers conspiring to only pick the non-FM versions of every fucking cellphone model? I've researched all the models my carrier sells and most of them are said to support FM radio on GSMarena, yet SOMEHOW my carrier ONLY HAS NON-FM VERSIONS OF THESE.

I'm in Canada. Our data plans are pathetic. I don't have $20 a month to burn so my phone can download an audio stream it could just tune in with a 50 cents piece of hardware because we are literally immersed in it 24/7.

But of course that issue rarely comes up because your average normie douchebag just wants to stream their favorite ongo bongo summer hit from Spotify so they'll gladly dish out the $80 a month to have a decent data plan, and FM radio is for dumb old grampas, right?

FUCK NORMIES AND FUCK THIS GAY EARTH.
>>
Just buy an unlocked phone online, pop your SIM into it and you're done.

I had the og note for five years and there was no noticeable burn-in, and that's a crappy early gen amoled panel. I think you're good.
>>
>>56461808
They want you to buy data from them. Carriers have actively disabled FM radios on phones they carry for that reason.

I found it very intuitive. You slide along the edge of the screen, like you're pulling out a menu in Material. The animation adds to the haptic sensation touch UI/UX's should have, the action itself feels more interactive than pushing a button (much like all the menus in material Design actually), and it conserves screen rel-estate by eliminating a need for buttons. Frankly, I think it would be a fine addition to Android. It already fits into the theme of Material Design (one "sheet" in front of another "surface").
>>
>>56461210
Why do you want to root it?

BlackBerry PRIV owner here, this thing isn't the most powerful, the battery isn't replaceable and the damn thing is nearly unrootable, but I love it.

Get one of the Samshit phones with an attachable keyboard or a Photon Q.
>>
>>56463940
Don't give me that bullshit.

I've used an iPhone 6+ for much longer than I'd like, and that feature is so fucking annoying it isn't even funny.

I'd rather stick to the way iOS 6 and previous did it, with dedicated buttons. SO much better.

Who cares if it takes up one more line of space, what use is the extra screen real estate if it isn't being used efficiently?
>>
>>56464037
I gave you more than just, "I like it" which based on your response is all I should have said. I regret trying to be thorough.
>>
>>56464084
Whatever man.

Which iPhone did your friend have?

Have you ever used anything before iOS 7?
>>
>>56464111
>being this ass smashed that iOS is more intuitive than his mish mash droid toy
>>
>>56464111
6s. I just think the slide feels right. It makes a lot of sense in a touch environment where sliding, pinching, etc, moving around ui elements empower the experience through extra interaction. Google understands this. That's why material Design is so based on moving elements. So as an Android users yourself, I don't understand your problem with this. I would however if you'd say more than just: "it annoys me."

Yes, whatever version is on the 4s, I've used.
