Also occurs to me now that C:, E:, and F: are my internal drives, while the rest are connected through a variety of external enclosures (both multi-drive and stand-alone sorts) so maybe it just doesn't show internally connected drives in the sidebar? But that's still inconvenient and I want to change it.

Is there a way to filter dust out of my air? Like a giant dust magnet that attracted it all and kept it in one bin where I could then throw it away?

Well yeah you can install an air filter, but it's not really going to clean the room for dust effectively. Reducing dust at the source is far better. Also, if you think removing dust is a pain in the ass (like me), invest in some statick dust mops or whatever you wanna call it, makes life a hell of a lot easier.

SSHDs are the best and worst of both worlds.

It's better to just get both an SSD and HDD because then you just get the best of both.

If you're super cash strapped and can't afford an extra $50 for a small SSD, then sure you can go with an SSHD.

depends if the card can play games using that much VRAM, at decent fps.

an RX 480 would've been fine with 5 or 6 GB but a GTX 1080 will definitely benefit from having 8 in the future.

Far Cry Primal with HD textures use like 5.3 GB on GDDR5x, as opposed to 3.5-4.3 with it off, but the fps loss is only around 5 with them on. in other words, 8 is definitely necessary to match its power.

My front audio port makes everything sound distorted as soon as any sort of pressure is put on it (even as little as a wire pulling the plug down a bit).
To get it back I have to twist the cord around until I can hit a sweet spot where it sounds clear again.

This looks like it could be fixed with a proper CPU frequency governor (assuming this isn't graphics related)

I personally use this:
>conservative
>up_threshold:98
>down_threshold:95
This gives me about 45 extra minutes of battery time and keeps everything cooler and responsiveness is good. This is proven to be more efficient than the powersaving governor because of overhead caused by other devices

I found http://news.softpedia.com/news/linus-torvalds-announces-linux-kernel-4-8-rc4-with-skylake-power-management-fix-507693.shtml

The fix is in the works currently, but you would have to custom compile your kernel (not hard). I'd give it another month before it enters the mainstream

This is for dual-core. If you have more cores, just add more of the conservative lines incrementally until you get to core count-1 (starts counting at zero).

I have money to waste, and I don't want a piece of shit
so, what' s the best PC I can build/ buy to run basically any game at all ever with the least amount of lag possible? It doesn't have to be some pretty, chrome-plated, LED filled piece of gaymer shit. It can look like pass as long as it will run well, have good cooling and last me close to a decade. I mostly use my current pc to play vidya, shitpost and watch my gay weeb cartoons. I'll probably keep it to do everything but play vidya, so all I need is a piece of hardware for 500-1000 bucks that will run literally anything on 'high as a Jamaican' resolution with 60 fps

Bonus points for it not coming pre-installed with Miniflacid Skynet™ as the default OS

I'm both patient and flexible, if can do what I need, then I need no more than a little extra just to be sure. If I cannot get it now, then I will simply wait. I bring home over 400 a week, and rarely spend more than 100. If I saved for a year or two, nothing would be out of my range. I'm just asking if there is anything within my current range of 500-1000 that is just as good for my needs as anything higher would be, without it being absurdly overpowered

An emulator is like a jurryrigged way of running something on hardware it wasn't meant to, and can suffer accordingly. Hardware decoding is a way of building a device with certain circuitry designed specifically for a task, so you can do it more efficiently. There shouldn't be any down sides.

OP's pic-related is literally every question asked

And so is this one-

My CPU is a Phenom II X4 965 (dont laugh). Literally everything is serviceable except the GPU (a keker of a GT 640...that's right, not GTX, GT). Of the possible upgrade routes I can take, a third option (and the cheapest) is to simply get an RX 480.

To my understanding, the bottleneck from the out of date CPU would not be too substantial. Thoughts?

I'm going to finally decide come black friday so I have time
>>
>>56443640
Correct
As long as you can overclock it and keep it cool enough, you shouldn't have to upgrade it. The Phenom II has pretty much the same architecture as the FX-4XXX series. I have the FX-6300 and I don't have any problems with speed (except for a HDD)

Interesting. See, the 6300 was actually one of he routes I was going to take, with an RX 480 or GeForce 1060 and appropriate upgrades with the mobo, etc. The third is Intel, i5 6600k + 1060 and all the other crap, though that's the most expensive.

Getting an RX 480 and then upgrading the CPU to 6300 later is also an option.

So this isnt necessarily just asking for confirmation. I have a laptop that keeps on stalling randomly and I am going to build a desktop whenever I get the funds. I dont want to have the same problems.

here are the specs:

>6gb of memory

I use this machine to program. So I have had problems opening up Android Studio. Also I open a lot of tabs/windows in google chrome.

Ok so I think my main problem is that the clock speed is like almost half of what I see on the desktop cpus that are out on the market. Also I think I am going to put extra memory when I build this desktop. Also I think I am going to probably used put both HDD and SDD into this desktop.

>Just built first computer. Do I leave it on all the time or leave it on during day and sleep at night?
It's all up to preference. People hold strong beliefs on whether it should be left on, turned off, or put into sleep mode.

>Also, when I leave it sleeping at night I've noticed it is usually turned on when I wake up and I've already disabled my network connection having the ability to turn it on.
It's possible something moved the mouse or pressed a key down.

>If I leave it on all the time is there some standard time frame that I should at least turn it off/restart like once every week or something?
Some people have uptimes of multiple months. Again, people hold strong beliefs, and it's really up to personal preference
>>
>>56445645
1) I think it would be better to have it sleep at night. Your session saves if you put it to sleep, and it's not running at full power all the time, meaning less electricity.

2) Usually when it's on, something is wiggling the mouse or a key was pressed, as >>56445699 mentioned.

3) It depends on you...But updates are usually applied only after a restart.

I'm interested in replacing my shitty non-programmable thermostat to improve energy efficiency in my home and hopefully reap long term savings on my electric bill.

The idea of a "smart" thermostat that I can manipulate from my phone or computer intrigues me. I like the idea of my heater/AC being off during the day and then turning on in time for my home to be comfy by the time I walk in the door regardless of changes to my normal routines.

However while I don't mind the idea of a computer within my network monitoring my habits, I care a bit more about willingly agreeing to have that info shipped off to some corporation's cloud.

Is anyone here aware of any "smart" thermostats where all the workings are confined within the user's home network instead of shipped off to Big Brother for analysis? Or do I just need to deal with older style "dumb" programmable thermostats and their more obnoxious programming procedures?

I realize that my concerns are probably dumb because Big Brother likely already has all the information that they could possibly want from me and may very well be recording me from my phone right now.

How do I convert a 2d array into a 1d array in Java? 2d arrays are already filled, say
int[][] table1 = {{3, 2, 5}, {1, 9, 6}, {7, 8, 4}};

I'm supposed to take 5 of these premade arrays and check to see if 1 through 9 are present. I already have a method to check.
private boolean check(int[] array) {
int i = 0;
Arrays.sort(array);
for (int num : array) {
if (num != ++i)
return false;
}
return true;
}

I'm relatively new to Java and I have never wrapped my head around 2D Arrays.

This is a weird problem to describe, which is why I can't really Google it.

For some reason, my TV doesn't seem to...display colors properly. It seems more noticeable with darker colors, but it just makes everything seem so low quality. It's like a bunch of pixels are just different colors, and it causes weird patterns among it. I can't take a picture right now, but look at the text box in my image. It should be all black on my TV, but it's just not. And when it fades from black to a picture, the fading is just...weird. It doesn't fade in everything at once like it should. Like in this cutscene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CT1DKC_OjME On my TV, it fades around the lights first, then the lights, then everything else? And when I'm running around in darkness, everything looks so fadey and blueish.

I feel like it has something to do with the contrast, but whenever I mess with the contrast. literally nothing in my picture changes. At least from what I can see. When everything is bright, it looks perfect like it should. When it's dark, it just seems hard to look at.

My TV is Seiki, 1080p, and I think 64 inches? Everything about this problem is just odd and I have no idea how to properly describe it. I just hope I was able to give you at least a vague idea of what I'm talking about. Thanks.

i also can't get my friends' plasma tv to switch to 5.1 channel output over optical, despite being an option. there'll be some obscure prerequisite we're missing, but the manual didn't help me in my case
in your case there's probably some preset or mode your in that is disabling tint adjustment

1. How can i enable the numpad by default?

2. My other drives should mount automatically, but for some reason i have to click on them manually to make my symbolic links work. What can i do to make the links work without that? I tired a cronjob to mount all drives, but that didn't seem to help either or i'm doing it wrong.

3. Is there an easy way to set my extra mouse buttons to copy and paste?

I appreciate any answer.

This is totally not worth a new thread, so posting here.

Previously had an iPhone 4 from 2010 until May. It broke finally after a stellar season. Bought a stop-gap ZTE T815 as I was getting a phone through work, but took a new job that didn't come with one so I have to buy one myself. I'm agnostic to the iOS/Android thing.

Budget is $600AU. This is what I've shortlisted:
> iPhone SE 16Gb - $549
> OnePlus 2 64Gb - $499
> OnePlus 3 64Gb - $575
> LG Google Nexus 5X 32GB - $419
> Samsung Galaxy S6 32Gb - $549
> Nexus 6P 32Gb - 32Gb

I think the OnePlus 3 is the forerunner, but only issue is it doesn't support 700 MHz which is used by my provider (Telstra). I live in a metro area though so it seems not a deal breaker, but I'm not really knowledgable on this.

What y'all think?
