Pick one.

Honestly, the most you're ever gonna pay for a quality board is 400-500 for a korean custom(gonskeyboardworks comes to mind there). Even if you're building your own you'll find it insanely hard to pay more than that if you're not a tacky 15 y/o.

If you acutally want to spend a few grand head over to datamancer and take a look at their 'beautiful' custom keyboards.
>pick related

It's quite disturbing, isn't it? The fact that they're trying to sell this for 1.6k is the most hilarious thing about it though. The descriptions also read like the ones they always have in art exhibitions. Sort of adds a notion of self parody into the mix.

The new Corsair versions don't have LED problems, so long as they're the RGB. It is the older single color ones that had issues.

Also, look at the new Corsair RGB "Lux". They now have a nicer font, better backlighting, and a USB passthrough. So a decent keyboard overall for those who like the design, CherryMX RGB in Blue, Red, Or Brown switches.

The only downside is, unless Lux have changed something you need to ensure you get the right bottom row spacing for custom keycaps on the Corsair. However, that usually isn't much of an issue.
>>
Oh, some notable neat keyboards....

Input.Club K-Type - The successor to the "White Fox", in RGB. Open source software, hardware. Compact. https://input.club/

Keyboardio Model 01 - Holy shit, an ergonomic (multiple position, split, tented etc..) mechanical, RGB, open source (powered by an arduino) keyboard, with a frame made out of wood. Looks pretty unique... https://shop.keyboard.io/

>you need to ensure you get the right bottom row spacing for custom keycaps on the Corsair

The problem is most keycaps don't support corsairs weird layout
>>
>>56421921

Yeah, that's annoying. I know there are a handful of those that offer a custom bottom row, but yeah not all of them.

I wonder though... has anyone checked out the new RGB "Lux" editions to see if the spacing is the same on the bottom row?

We should go to Corsair and ask them to change that shit around. They've been somewhat responsive to enthusiast criticism in the past from what I've seen, such as the inclusion ofheadphone/USB is now added to Lux. Maybe they've never been asked by custom keyset aficionados?
>>
>>56421969
the problem is that corsair is a mainstream brand and most people don't care about aftermarket custom keycaps. All what they want is to plug a mouse/ headset into their keyboard without having to get a 6 foot long usb cable to their PC
>>
>>56422109

True, but Corsair is somewhat of an enthusiast company at its core. Selling expensive PC peripherals is a niche in and of itself. Maybe they'll be receptive? Only a relative few will buy AX grade power supplies, Dominator or Vengeance LED RAM, liquid cooling etc...

Can't hurt to ask. I'll see if I can PM a rep on one of the hardware forums, but if something like Geekhack or whatnot can make an official request maybe they'd be receptive? Hell, even if they got a lot of emails asking for the feature that might help. If not, we're no worse off than we are now.

As an aside... anyone know if Roccat uses a standard layout on their US version? They seem to be pretty open to customization (ie their Nyth mouse has 3d printed custom buttons, they give away the specs etc.. .and they seem to offer open source and/or Linux friendly stuff too). Maybe their Rylos MK FX is a worthwhile competitor for a "gaming" mechanical for those who want one.
>>
>>56422367
PC assembling enthusiasts are a far cry from keyboard enthusiasts.
>>
>>56421756
I have a dedicated work board.
>>
>>56422367
you know how much corsair spends on marketing sure there keyboards are a tad pricey, but they market them as enthusiast products put a metal plate at the front despite everything else being made of cheap plastics then throw in a couple of RGB LEDS and people thing they spent their money getting a premium product, who can then go online and brag about their enthusiast set up

Unless you want to gut a novatouch for the stems, there's no PBT caps available that would fit the HHKB that are of any higher quality than the stock ones (1mm).

True, but skimming throught the thread I've seen people saying 140 or even a thosand. I've tried a mechanical keyboard, now that I think about it. Yeah it felt smoother pressing down on the keys, but doesnt warrant those prices, but to each their own. Thanks for answering the question btw.

Why would anyone buy this? You could buy a fully mechanical keyboard for less, and this is even stupid in the fucking razer lineup, when the Blackwidow is just $10 extra.

If some bratty 12 y/o is begging his mom for a Razer™keyboard, she is either not going to buy him the $50 membrane deathstalker essential because she thinks that all keyboards are the same, or she is going to cave in and buy him whatever the "top of the line" blackwidow is.

The fuck is going out with my corsair K65?

I was cleaning it and took all of the keycaps and clean them too

I haven't turn it on in a day and just today it start glitching out.

Corsair CUE doesn't even detected it either and when unplug and plug it back in its goes into this weird slow rainbow wave and goes white for a sec and goes back into slow rainbow wave.

Help?
>>

Man that is one ugly looking logo.
My best guess is that you didn't dry the caps properly and some water got into your keyboard shorting it out
>>
>>56429028
Then none of the leds shouldn't turn on if it was a shortout
>>

Just wanted to check back in, even though I know nobody remembers or cares.

I posted a little while back that I was interested in getting a quickfire rapid with green switches. It was easily one of the best purchases I have made in recent times.

The keyboard, while only tkl, has a nice sturdy weight and heft to it. The green switches are a blessing after coming from browns. I am a heavy typist and would accidentally press adjacent keys on the browns all the time.

I've tried out my friend's mech with blues but they were always a bit too loud for me. The click on the greens is lower pitched and slightly more subdued, really nice.

Only downside I can see are the mediocre keycaps with their edgey gamer font. Thankfully, I just have to wait until my miami keys come in. Thanks again /mkg/.
>>
>>56429090
then try updating the firmware.
Honestly I would have taken the keyboard apart and checked to see if its a hardware problem or a software glitch

Topre essentially uses rubber domes made out of high-quality rubber and with custom shaping to provide the feel, so I would argue they're not "mechanical feeling" per se. Rather, they just feel good.

The reason people refer to Topre as "mechanical" is mostly in regards to their comparable quality and durability, provided by replacing a membrane design with a capacitive design - which can, in theory, last more than even mechanical switches. Generally, it's because far too many people assume anything with rubber in it is a horrible $5 membrane keyboard.

Seiden.tech:
What's a mechanical keyboard?

Topre uses rubber domes, model Ms use membranes, Model Fs work with capacitance (like Topre). MX and ALPS style keyboards use discrete switches.

All of these except for Topre, which is a point of debate but widely accepted in the keyboard community, are considered "mechanical" keyboards.

So, what does "mechanical" mean in this context?

You'd probably want something quiet to not annoy your coworkers, so clicky switches like buckling spring, cherry mx blue or alps white arent a good choice.

That leaves you with linear vs tactile and it pretty much boils down to personal preference. If you want to feel a step when key is pressed, then you want quiet tactile, like mx clear. If you dont care about it then linear switches also feel good, like mx red or black.

>capacitive sensing that will undoubtedly outlast physical contact sensing
If your job was to make Razerfags look retarded then congratulations.
>>
>>56436052
lol ok i'm not even a razerfag just calling out your extreme bias, and you act like high quality rubber is diffibult to obtain and that plate-mounted switches are any special

Durability and reliable keypress registration. A membrane is much less reliable and you have to hammer on it like a maniac to register a press.

>>56435928
Not necessarily in feel, but in durability and reliability? Absolutely. The spring doesn't contribute a lot to it, most of Topre's secret feel sauce is, from what I know (I hope to buy a keyboard but I can't decide between the ergo-Realforce, the 45g Realforce and the HHKB, so I've been doing a lot of research) the "cup rubber" and the fact capacitive designs are actually expensive to make - compare the prices and availability of the capacitive Model F vs the buckling spring Model M.
>>
>>56436089
Honestly, if you only care about the feel - I heard the BTC dome-with-slider has a good chunk of the Topre feel at 1/20th the cost used. Razer is using a similar design for their "mecha-membrane", except they added a click for some reason or other.

Topre's price is not in the rubber domes. It's in the capacitive mechanism, the high-quality materials and not being produced in China.

How is it even possible that nobody sells touchtyping keysets?
>>
>>56436130
Blanks are very popular.
>>
>>56436130
you know the layout by muscle memory, the keycap colors should just be for easy visual recognition and/or aesthetics

cheers

reds and learning not to be aggressive on them

So I should buy the keyboard, scrap the keycaps and put it in my board?

They don't say which switches it is compatible with, but it looks like buckling, not MX.

Buying single gets quite expensive for the full board.
>>
>>56436289
just go to keybr.com and have at it stop making excuses for putting off learning touch typing

i've had at most a total of 6 hours of practice on this website, started from scratch with not knowing proper touch typing

I also want style.

I found this tho, looks good.

>>
>>56436520
Is there something wrong with it?

The page lets you configure the colour of each individual key and switch between text stiles, including blank. It looks nice to me, besides I just want the letter keys and not a full keyset.
>>
>>56436587
The keycaps are shit thin ABS, their only merit is the level of customization offered, given the quality and material choice, they are beyond overpriced.
>>
So what do you faggots make of optical switches?
>>
>>56436365
The quality is super shit and plastic is thin as fuck.

Just get something like this
