My Filco Majestouch-2 just died on me all of sudden. Seems like one of the keys got stuck, it just keeps typing "k" over and over until it suddenly won't work at all. I've tried using both the USB and PCB connectors, reinstalling the drivers on different USB ports, and cleaning the socket but it just seems like the "k" key is fucked.

What the hell /mkg/? You told me these things were durable... Thankfully I'm not a poorfag though and it lasted me 5 years I guess.

Thinking about getting an RGB board now and was looking at the Ducky Shine 5, you guys like that one?

I want a cherry blue, tenkeyless keyboard with floating keys. Something like the Tomoko (pic related) but with cherry blue switches.
Bonus points for all-metal construction.

Any ideas /g/? Not interested in modding the tomoko (too much money to get the keycaps and switches, too much time to do it)

>I thought it would be like a 20 bucks difference at most.

In your dreams the cost of the metal alone.
If I were to DIY an all metal keyboard the aluminum case would cost $150 while the plate would be another $90.
If I was a large manufacturer I might save 50 to 70 bucks but that keyboard will sell for 300-350 dollars
So never ever Mr. Tomoko
>>
>>56398921
What the flying fuck. It is much cheaper to go to a local metal shop and have every part custom machined then, that is quite absurd.
Anyhow, not going to spend that kind of money (diy or not) just for the metal construction then.

This one sounds like it has a really good build quality, double shot injection molding, metal plates, gateron switches are supposedly pretty decent, and it's cheap as hell. Only problem for me is that it's too flashy

So instead I'm going for this one. Seems like less build quality, but it's even cheaper by virtue of being sold by monoprice. Nice modest looking keyboard that should feel pretty nice to type/play on.

I've 80% made up my mind, just wanted to let you guys know these cheapo ones are here, also to see if I missed an important problem with the monoprice one.

Ugh, that was supposed to be rotated.
Anyways, I remembered from over a decade ago that it had a very distinct "mechanical" sound that the Powerbook's keyboard lacks. On closer inspection, it turned out that it is indeed apparently mechanical and has Cherry MX-style switches too. They don't have any visible identifier, but I've searched Deskauthority a little and I feel it might be a variant of these: https://deskthority.net/wiki/Taiwan_white_and_black_shaft

Are Cherry MX Greens too heavy?
I've only ever tried membranes and a Razer with the Kailh blue switches, and they felt good, but light.
Considering how the membrane I'm currently using actuates/bottoms out at approximately 80 grams (I don't find it to be too heavy), should I get the greens or stick with the blues for a safer first purchase?

Pic related - the Quickfire Rapid with Greens is only $74.

I've been using a Razer Black Widow Tournament edition for 1-2 years now, but I want to move to a smaller form factor (60%-40%). I have no idea what I'm doing, and need your help.
>Budget
$150
>Location
USA
>Preferred Switch Type
I have no idea. I'd like switches suitable for typing and the occasional gayming
>Layout
I don't too much about different layouts, but I achieved 110 WPM on my Razer BlackWidow, so anything similar to my current layout is preferred but I am willing to learn a new layout if it's more efficient.
>Form factor
Like previously stated, I want to try 40% or 60%, but I don't know which one would be better for me.
>Backlight?
I honestly don't care. It's completely optional.
>Previous keyboard
Razer Black Widow Tournament.

If you want a 40% keyboard your options are very limited. This is the only one I could find in you bydget pic related
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/minivan-keyboard
The PCB is fully programmable so you could customize it to you liking

As far as 60% goes you have much wider variety though if you want arrow keys I recommend you get a 65% keyboard
>>

Sounds like a dampened cream alps or matias QC that you're being very aggressive with. Or maybe it's just your spacebar that you're mashing.

Nice.

>>
So I wanna build a 60% board, for my workshop desk the extra bit of space would be wonderful when I'm working on other stuff.
The problem is- I use the arrow keys, a lot. I would be perfectly happy using the bottom four right keys next to the space bar (alt, ctrl, super etc) as my arrow keys. But I have one question- aren't those normally different sized keys compared to the normal 1x1 keys? Are there any keycap sets that aren't going to rape my bank account that will show those glyphs on those keys? Alternatively, is there any other common setup on a 60 percent keyboard that has the arrow keys?

CM Storm QuickFire Rapid

Is coolermaster a good brand? Also not sure what switch type to get. I thought I wanted blues, but I went over to a friends how and they were (not sure if this is the right word) too "heavy". I didn't like how they felt. Maybe Reds? I want to try Clears but they seem rare.

Also why is Brown the worst?

Blues aren't that heavy.

But if you got babbyfingers, you may also want to get reds. Browns suck because they are a shitty compromise between tactility and weight. They feel like reds with dirt in them.

Clears are heavier than blues.
>>
>>56408210
>How do you type numbers with a 40%?
Its done with function layer mapping

Also the whole keyboard is programmable so you can make it just one giant numpad if you want
>>
>>56408892
are clears louder than blues?
>>
>>56408935
No. Blues are clicky, clears aren't.
>>
>>56408935
Red are a linear switch with no tactile feedback
Blacks are heavier reds
Browns are reds with dirt inside them
Clears are very heavy switches with an extended tactile bump, but you can always put lighter 35g springs in them
Greys are even heavier clears
Blues are a tactile and clicky switch, though they are slightly heavier then reds 45g vs 50g
Greens are heavier blues
>>
>>56408892
I realized I flubbed that sentence - I tried my friend's blues and I didn't like them. If clears are heavier I may just go with reds.

Thanks

>want better wpm, going to use for typing, occasional gaming

Well for words per minute it varies per person. My first keyboard had tactile switches so I could feel the actuation point and quickly type. This improved my typing by 10-15 WPM. But again its anecdotal and varies between people

Now if your going to use this for typing do you mean like writing essay or programing. Since I'm going for my masters in biology most of my writing is research with occasional programing and while I still haven't used a 40% layout my 65% works just fine.

As for gaming what games do you play. It seems like this will be terrible for MMOs but fine for other games like FPS, though I use the quick wheel in games so if you like to switch with the numbers on top your keys it might not be best for you unless you don't mind that console invention

>What kind of typing
I'm going to be using it for writing essays and programming on the side (most of my programming is done on my Thinkpad anyway).
>games
I don't play MMOs. When I play games I typically play things like Civ, Minecraft, Battlefield, etc. I got a controller if I ever can't handle gaming on this keyboard. Important thing to me right now is making a decision because this drop ends tomorrow.

>>56414159
forgot to ask, if I decide to order this keyboard, what switches should I get? I like feedback.

imo the choc mini is better for programming

the minivan is really minimalist and niche and more for if you need it to be portable or if you're a diehard keyboard enthusiast who wants it to be that small just for the sake of it

If you want tactile and clicky then gateron blues or the heavier greens would be my choice. If you want a quieter switch but still tactile then get browns

though what this anon said>>56414274
is true. I'm getting it because I have already used a 65% keyboard before and I want to be a special snowflake and use these cherry dark navy switches that I found.

If you want to have fun building a keyboard and sharing your experience online then get the minivan though with its small size you might miss things like dedicated number keys if you use them a lot, otherwise if you want a solid out of the box small keyboard then get the noppoo

There is a spacebar. That guy is just using custom keycaps and they don't have a spacebar that small, why would someone need three shifts lol. Also its fully programmable so if you want you can make every key space

besides this is the keyboards default layout

Between these 2, which is better?
>>
>>56415961
they're both shit
>>
>>56415961
They are very similar.

FC750R comes with side-printed PBT keycaps, while Ducky one has versions with doubleshot ABS and dyesub PBT.

Between PBT versions of those, get whichever has switches that you like and looks better to you. Avoid ABS.
