Oh shit, the last thread was >>56391150 , my bad.

My Android smartphone got stuck into a bootloop after trying to bypass the FRP, should I ask for a replacement or try to fix it myself?

If yes to the latter, should I just wait three days to enter my account, or should I try to bypass it again using another method?

Really want to ask for a replacement right now. The second I entered in my Jewgle shit is the second it started getting warm to the touch.

What are some good, trustworthy sites to download apks from?

Im trying to repair a laptop.

HP DV5 to be exact.
So far no luck turning it on, power socket seems loose but the owner said it was working.

Charging LED doesn't work apparently, no luck trying to boot it without battery, opted to leave it charging for a while.

What would be the next step to do, open it and reseat/move it?
Wait a while while it charges?
What?

Make sure to check the power socket. That same shit happened to my shitty Dell Inspiron, and because the socket was soldered on, I couldn't easily replace it.

> HP
> not an EliteBook
Yeah, good fucking luck.
Chances are you're going to have to desolder then resolder the power socket after you disassemble the damn thing.

Alternatively, it could just be a problem with your power supply.
>>
>>56401243
I would go with mATX, but that's just because I've had some good experiences with it.

If you go with ITX, you won't be able to get as good cooling if you go with an ITX case as well.

Also, if you don't need that many ports, I would go for ITX. But personally, I would like an mATX.

I'm having an odd problem.

I have 3 powerline adapters in my house to connect devices to.
However, in the last 2 months or something, the connection of the lines start slowly dying the closer it gets to midnight. Around then my connection usually completely dies, but when I wake up in the morning it's like nothing happened.
The modem/router still work fine, only the devices connected to the powerline start suffering from lower connection rate and connection drops.

Any ideas what might cause this?
Electrical appliances aren't overloading my house's grid, and it wasn't like this before.

>>
>>56402962
No, I didn't.

To my knowledge, you have to wait three days after a password change or whatever before you can use it for unlocking your phone after something like a remote reset, which I did.

I put in the correct account, the only account I had associated with that phone, that I had created just for that phone, and it would not let me into my fucking phone, and I didn't want to wait three fucking days to get in there, so I tried to get around it.

I was pretty successful, but RootJunky's sdk didn't work, so I found another way. I altered a few settings and stopped a few services before I rebooted, though, so I cannot use that method until I get out of bootloop.

I have 2x2GB DDR2 and a Q6600 in my computer.

Looking at the BIOS, it sees all 4096MB of RAM, but right below it there is a "Total system memory" and it reads only 3376MB.

The system POSTs, but the second it attempts to load Windows from the HDD, it BSoDs and restarts itself.

What is going on and how do I fix it? Already tried reseating everything. Now using 1x2GB + 1x1GB.

You using on-board graphics senpai? If so, check your BIOS to make sure you haven't given it 768MB of memory, as it will take it from your RAM.

As always, reformat, re-install. If your windows installation is 32-bit, it may be throwing a hissy fit over seeing more than 3 gigs of ram

>>

Could it boot off USB before?
You could try to boot memtest86 to verify it's the RAM.
I don't think it is as usually if one chip on the stick fails the whole stick won't work, and the system won't POST until you take it out.
You could also try wiping the BIOS by using the jumpers on the mobo if you have them or taking the cmos battery out for 5 mins

>>56403329

>>
>>56403262
I have a hunch it is a faulty stick. Booting with just that 2GB stick alone causes the same problem.

Booting with the other 2gb stick is fine.

which is weird since it POSTs and the system detects all 4gb ram.

Simply put it adds frames in between the original frames to create that smooth clear motion.
What is the problem?
There is a reason why creators choose certain framerates, shutter speeds and look for their videos. In other words you let an application to alter the artistic integrity of the piece you watch.
What if the creator wanted motion blur because of the look he wanted you to see?

Same thing on high end TVs. I always turn off Natural Motion and stupid hrz amounts because I want to see what the cinematographer wanted me to see.

Pretty sure that much battery drain is not supposed to happen in airplane mode,

Anyway, I've got a string of cell phones I'm looking at to replace the old droid 3 I've got.

Motorola Droid 4 (provided I don't get a lemon again.)
Kyocera brigadier
Casio Commando (the 4g one)

Basically I don't need something totally bomb proof (I work for the forest service, bomb resistant is fine), and I'm a fan of slate sliders. I've also found conflicting info on the droid 4 as there's allegedly one floating around that you can remover the battery on without voiding the warranty on it...

Thoughts on these three? Or suggestions in another direction?

Not him, but do you think it's still sane to buy a i5 4690K (as opposed to i5 6600K) to pair with a GTX 1080 for a new 144hz/1440p gaming rig?
I already have 12gb of DDR3, so I'm not feeling like the skylake upgrade is worth it for me. I do have futureproofing in mind, but my only early outdated purchase would be the mobo when I need a CPU upgrade. Knowing sockets, 1151 will become quickly outdated anyway even if I buy the 6600K skylake.

It feels like the i5 4690k has been around forever.

Bit of a stretch but does anyone have any solid resources about mirroring (RAID1) mixed SSDs? I do still worry more about some sort of (semi-)systematic failure (eg controller bugs) than wear or completely random failures, and in that context I suppose mixing different SSDs would make sense. But the traditional wisdom is that RAIDs should use matched drives, but I'm not sure if that really still applies.

I went into bios and set the clock manually at 4.2 and the voltage at 1.25v. Now using Prime95 I get in the high 60s at worst.

Whenever I try to install Arch or Gentoo on a spare HDD, the installation process comes to a complete halt when it's time to configure the bootloader.

Now, I have installed Arch and Gentoo in VM's on several different occasions, so as to prep me for installation on actual hardware. But whenever I try configuring grub, the process gets fucked up. I gef issues such as "efi is not a boot partition" whenever I chose to target it towards UEFI. However, I never encountered this problem in a VM environment when configuring grub for either BIOS or UEFI. I tried looking for solutions in the Gentoo handbook and the Arch wiki, but I just end up with autistic non-answers.

Should I opt to configure Grub as BIOS the next time I install either Arch or Gentoo on actual hardware, or should I keep at it with the UEFI configuration for Grub. I heard it doesn't necessarily matter if you configure Grub for BIOS even if your mobo is UEFI.

Yesterday I made a post asking about costs for laser printers versus inkjet printers,
but did not receive an answer, so I am here today to post what I found out about it.

Inkjet cartridges are typically much easier to refill than toner cartridges.
I would not bother with generic toner refills, but offical toner is moderately more expensive than generic ink refills.

Comparing official toner replacements and official inkjet cartridge replacements is a no-brainer. Toner cartridges, even official ones, are able to print vastly more pages than the typical inkjet printer (1500 versus 180 for their half filled replacements, 2500 and 320 for their "XL" ones).
As with the initial purchase of the printer itself, laser toner is much more of an upfront investment, with black toner replacements alone going for about $40-50 each.
With inkjet black refills, the most I would be able to get about 450 pages for $25.

This puts black replacement at around $0.018/page for laser and $0.056/page for inkjet.
If you factor in other colors, both rates increase.

The generic ink for my printer is 120mL of black and 90mL of colored ink for about $13. Compared to the combo packs that give about 3.5mL of black and 4.0mL of color for $25-30, you get about 28x more ink for roughly half the cost.

This puts the generic refill cost at about $0.003/page for generic black+tricolor, or $0.001/page for just black. That is 6x and 18x cheaper than black toner respectively.

Here's some updates to avoid

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/goto/post?id=2545330#post-2545330
http://techne.alaya.net/?p=12499

The windows 10 updates don't matter anymore because microsoft pulled the notifications.

They'll still be offering security-only rollups, but you'll need to use a tool like WSUS or download them manually from the Update Catalog (with IE if microsoft doesn't get their shit together).

It's probably worth while to make a slipstreamed iso of all the current updates that you want using windows DISM or the handy RT7lite tool. Unfortunately it's kind of a pain without using the convenience rollup, which has telemetry in it. I doubt microsoft is going to add much of anything that tempting in the future so skipping the non-security updates from here on out should be fine.

It isn't really fair to compare generic black inkjet and official black toner, but the only reason I would consider the generic refills at all is because it was a $30 inkjet printer that I would not miss if it got messed up, and because the refill process for the inkjet cartridges is so much simpler; it is as simple as pouring the ink and putting the cartridge back in place, unlike some toner cartridges which do not always have easy access to the toner chamber, and often have other complicated parts preventing access or refills, such as electronic chips or mechanical parts.

In that sense it is lucky that the ink level sensors on my printer are broken, so refilling requires zero effort to workaround the printer design.

I'm glad that you did not answer me yesterday, as I did not provide any information about my current printer, which would've left me with a cost analysis of buying a new printer that I did not necessarily need to save money on printing.

Thanks /sqt/.

My dad's shitty laptop starts up fine but when you start chrome (or maybe any resource intensive process, idk, haven't checked) it near completely freezes for an age, and in resource management it shows the disk being completely blocked (the little blue line goes to 100%, and only a few kb of IO happens)

Running a live usb linux distro was perfectly fine, so it's either something with the windows install, or the hdd. I ran badblocks and it was at 121 badsectors at about 18%, then it lost power and i cba to run it again.

CrystalDiskInfo shows it as having a warning under current pending sector count, which is at 39. Chkdsk runs very fast, didn't really see any output.

I'm thinking the HDD is probably dying, will probably try reinstalling because that'll need doing if it gets replaced anyway, but it'll probably be more cost effective to just get him a x220 with an ssd.

Is the hard drive probably fucked, or anything I can do?

Tried unplugging and replugging in the hdmi cable, switching cables, but they didn't seem to help. Changing the resolution or setting windows to duplicate my displays seems to turn it on for a few seconds, but the colors are off in the sense that the entire screen is tinted red and especially so near the bottom right edge.

That chart was never relevant. The Backblaze CEO issued a statement shortly after that chart started making the rounds explaining why it looks so fucked up; Backblaze intentionally bought a huge batch of shitty drives. Seagate openly told them that the drives would have a massive failure rate and gave them a deep discount on them. Backblaze calculated that the price per drive was low enough that it was better to buy two of these shitty drives than one WD or HGST drive and just replace the failed drives.

HGST drives are premium, but if you don't want to spend as much, it's a toss up between Seagate and WD in most cases. I have two Seagate drives that are eight years old and one that's four years old-- they all work fine.

After reading the website I started following the mpv-build guide.
>If you want bleeding edge functionality, link against git versions of FFmpeg or if a package for your platform is not available or updated, you can build mpv from source code. The helper build scripts are recommended for most users since they perform a static build of FFmpeg and libass as well as mpv.

vs

>Distributions usually package outdated, unmaintained, and unsupported versions of mpv. This is especially true for popular distros like Debian and Ubuntu. You are recommended to use mpv-build or 3rd party packages instead.

Honestly I'll probably just use another method like one of the PPAs or the software manager until I get my head around how to use the terminal. Sorry if I'm not making any sense, I only installed Mint last night.

I can't find the statement made by the CEO, but here is an article explaining the circumstances surrounding why they bought shitty drives. They continue to buy cheap as fuck drives to this day, although when I say "shitty" and "cheap as fuck" it's kind of relative since Backblaze buy very few enterprise drives. I kind of forgot a lot of the original article I read, but it seems that the warning that Backblaze got in regards to high failure rates were largely related to the external drives that they ripped apart.

https://www.backblaze.com/blog/3tb-hard-drive-failure/

>They've been continuing to release these charts for years
Yes, and if you cared to look at the results for any year after 2013, you'll find that Seagate's drives are completely in line with their competitors in terms of reliability. Again, all of this is in the context of running these drives hard for years on end, which isn't something most consumers are going to do in the first place. So if you intend to buy a hard drive to read and write from constantly for like two years straight and you buy a 4TB Seagate drive, it has a whopping 3% chance to fail, according to Backblaze's numbers from the past two years.

It is true that if you're on a non bleeding edge distro you might have outdated packages, but generally it's a lot easier to manage your installed software if you install it all from the repos. Then, if you find you're missing a feature you need or there's a bug that's been fixed, look at compiling it yourself.

If mint is the same as debian/ubuntu you can probably install it by just running

sudo apt-get install mpv

The foam covers only help with stuff "hitting" it, like wind or your breath. It's job is to pick up sound and it does it well, too well sometimes. Another problem is the size of it forcing you to buy accessories directly for the Yeti which usually costs a ton thanks to the shilling from popular Let's Players. I got a dynamic microphone which allows me to use glorious chink shit for accessories, like shockmounts or swivel arm stands for <20$. It has a narrower range which helps me out.

The yeti does have a narrower range setting along with some others which is its best feature, so it's not a bad product at all.

Because arch is rolling release, bug fixes, security fixes, etc, will be released in new versions but not old ones, new software will depend on new versions of software which you don't have yet.

This makes it a lot easier to maintain, and thus despite being bleeding edge, is secure, reasonably stable, and simple

The arch always breaks meme is just that, it really doesn't, it's broke once for me in over a year and that was nvidia's fault. You should be updating stable distros like debian, and windows too, arch just has more frequent updates.

I live in a basement apartment and I'm getting wifi from the apartment upstairs. The speed is ~60 Mbps down. However, they ran an ethernet connection to the basement for me and when I connect to that I get ~130mbps.

My question is, would it be worth investing in my own router for the basement apartment? Would I be able to get faster speeds? Or would the speed difference be negligible?

Also the router I was planning on buying was the TP-LINK Archer C5 (because it's on sale), if that makes a difference.

OKAY I think I have a weird situation but I might just be retarded

So I have a dell precision t3500 workstation tower with some decent 32nm xeon (forgot which model)

It has 6 ram slots, assumably 2 sets (triple channel). It came with 6gb (3 slots, 2gb each) kingston ECC memory. I went to upgrade it with hynix ECC memory, still DDR3, on the SAME frequency, and it doesn't work. I tested the ram in my friend's t5500 and it works just fine. When I put in ONLY the new memory, I get the same beep code as if there is no memory installed at all, doesn't post (obviously). According to dell, it's something along the lines of a failure on the first 64k. When I leave in the original 3, and add 3 more in the other slots, it gives me the same thing. When I subtract one from the new slots, leaving one free slot (3 old, 2 new), it boots, but all but 2GB of the ram is hardware reserved.

I am very confused now.

That's the thing, it wasn't doing any overheating at all before the first factory reset, I had absolutely no problems with it.

It was a dream to use, but then after the first reset and once I put in some Jewgle shit, it overheated just because the screen was on, and would throttle me on some apps.

If it persists, I'm probably going to return it.

VPN's will do what you're talking about, assuming he doesn't have a way to block them. Anything using openvpn is hard to block. Website's make lists of known vpn IPs, so the best you could do is pick an IP in your own country, and maybe one that isn't well known. It's still gonna flag you when you try to log in to things because it will look like you just traveled hundreds of miles away. Now if you've got a friend nearby with a good internet connection you could host your own vpn from their place and have your network traffic come out there.
