Geekbench 4 is out. They got rid of the SHA1 and SHA2 tests that chip makers use to cheat.

Actually it's okay for comparing against X86 and ARM but the only relevant results are FP results.

Currently the Exynos 8890 is pretty much on par with a dual-core haswell laptop i3 @ 2.4 GHz in FP performance.

To be fair that i3 will maintain that performance over time but the 8890 won't due to no active cooling.

Geekbench 3 is pretty stupid when any flagship blows through the test in 10 seconds.

>Have Z3 Compact
>Bump into door when someone is coming through the other way - wasn't looking
>Front of screen shatters so badly that I can't unlock the phone
It was such a light hit that I have to imagine there was a fault in the screen that was just waiting to break.

So here are my list for a new phone.
>Under $200
>Around 5" screen size
>Doesn't need to be flagship-tier but it should at least not have horrid lag on basic things, which is really all I use my phone for anyway (GBA ROM's are the most intense)
>Maybe a metal body and strong glass - or just something all-around durable, to make it simpler

In the case that there isn't much out there which is worth using with those qualifications, is the 2GB model of the Redmi Note 3 worth looking at? As it says above, I do nothing resource-intensive with my phone.
>>
>>56364738
Why not just get a new screen for your Z3C?
>>
>>56364738
Sony doesn't use Gorilla Glass, they use this shitty DragonTrail bullshit and use the glass as the touch digitizer instead of the LCD like everyone else. That's why you see people with iPhones and Samsungs with completely smashed screens with glass picking off and they still accept touch input just fine.

>>
>>56364792
If it's possible for there to be a stronger-glass screen, I'll consider it.

Otherwise, I'm getting something with much stronger glass. Durability wasn't something i had put much thought into in the past, and now it's something I refuse to compromise on.
>>

>>
>>56365193
Most phones all use the same glass on the front screen, there isn't much you can do about durability here besides putting on some garishly bulky case and screen protector.

The Redmi Note 3 is the official phone of /g/ for 2016.

Performance, price, battery life and screen size all converge on a point of such high quality that it beggars belief.

The build quality was the only reservation I had about getting it. Water and dust resistance is hardly a concern; glass on the front and back which isn't GG most assuredly is. Specs-wise the phone was great, for the time I had it. (t. someone who does fuckall with their phone)

That's why my needs in a phone now include GG. Wasn't before.

I've broken screens that have gorilla glass before. I've put a tempered glass screen protector and a case on my xiaomi. I think the xiaomi can survive drops unless it's on the screen (same with any GG phone).

Huawei is a bigger, more established company.
The support, hardware and software are all an upgrade from the OP3.

The only thing that limits it is the cost.
If you want a relatively inexpensive, well-resolved Med-tier Functional phone, go for OP3

Alright /g/ents,

You've almost successfully shilled me. What is the main difference between the Mi Max and the RN3P?

Also, global rom works in Europe? Netherlands specifically
>>
>>56368882
The Mi Max has ~30% more battery life, the redmi note 3 already has incredible battery life though so at that point it's just greedy lel.

You can get the Mi Max in 4gb of ram, RN3P only goes up to 3Gb.

The Mi Max is colossal, it is 6.4 inches nearly a full inch bigger than the 5.5 inch RN3P which some people with manlet hands can't even use.

Other than that I'd say that they're both great phones, I don't know if I could handle a six and a half inch sized phone though, would be awesome to have at home or to watch content on.

The global rom will work fine in Europe, consider flashing the Xiaomi EU rom onto it.

IMO both phones are decent, I was really close to getting a Mi Max but then I thought realistically how would using a phone that big work in real life situations - I upgraded from the original moto G.
>>
>>56368882
Dutch people are tall right, so you have big hands?

Dude if you are tall enough consider a mi max it has a 4800 mah battery but the screen is 1080p so it can power the large screen for hours. I think the screen on time is easily over 10 hours.

Best future proof phone out right now?
>>
>>56369571
OP here... uhh no you dont. Im also a phone salesperson and you actually pay less on contract.

for example.

I buy LGG5 phone for $800
My plan stays at $45

I get plan for LGG5 and pay $0
Plan goes up to $65 for 2 years, After that, back down to $45.

$20x24 months=$480 for LGG5

They let you pay less for the promise that you will keep using their service. Learn math and you will stop wasting your money.

And you can go ahead and try to tell me thats not how it works where you are. but i dont care. that's how it works in canada on EVERY CSP

you pay an extra $20 onto your plan no matter what plan that is or what phone it is and 2 years is the maximum legal plan so thats what they all are.

I have a rooted Note 4 (Verizon) that doesn't have any plan right now.
I'm moving to Orlando to stay with bf so I think coverage isn't a big deal but I've never lived in a city before.
What would you recommend? I rarely use my phone for talk/text. I looked at cricket's group plans (I don't have to worry about gsm/cdma compatibility right if gsmarena says I have both techs right) and I can swing 2.5gb for $20/mo, but also at cheap sprint mvnos for like $5-10/mo. No network has service within 15 miles of my house so I've never really bothered with them, sorry if I'm coming off as retarded.
>>
>>56369156
Lol

I pay about $300 per year for my cell bill, I really don't understand why people flagship anymore.

Out of a dozen coworkers, 5 have the lg G3 and 2 have the g4. They all complain about battery life, everyone fucks with the debit machine chargers to charge the phones. Meanwhile my rn3p is effectively identical in use outside of the camera.

All of them break their phones and haggle their asses off to pay $60/mo for 2 years just to get 1gb per month.

I converted one 18yo to a redmi 3s and she loves that shit over her shortly lived iphones. Her mom is ordering 2 rn3p, one for herself one for her other daughter after seeing the redmi 3s. It's a whole other world for these people when the phone's battery life is completely ignorable.

Only morons would pay for flagships on a contract these days with things like rn3p, OP3, mi5 and all sorts of other shit that has the same SOC but for less than half the price. The battery life being completely ignored on flagships is something else.
>>
>>56369975

>>
What makes the OnePlus 3 a better product than the Mi5? Best prices I've found are 430€ for the OP3 and 330€ for the Mi5.
>>

>If requesting purchasing advice
My dad is looking for a new phone. He's got a Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus (Android 4.2.2) for the past 3 years, which now is unbearably slow and unreliable.
The phone is supposed to fulfill basic tasks such as phone calls, text messaging, web browsing and YouTube watching. It should also have a decent camera. Decent, no more. He's okay with his current crappy 5MP phone camera. No need for games, fingerprint, gimmicks. Screen size between 4 and 5 inches.
He wants a phone he can pick up and immediately be able to use, but I don't really want him to get a Samsung. He also claims he doesn't know how to operate my mom's Nexus 5 running Lollipop/Marshmallow.
We live in Israel, so a global/Europe variant is required.
As for budget, we're looking for something cheap.

I'm sad to say I'm an idiot who doesn't know much of the market beyond the flagships, so I can hardly make sense in the large market of cheap smartphones.

>>
>>56371917
Wait, does that Galaxy Trend Plus run TouchJizz? If it does that's going to be a problem, he's basically locked into Samshit.
Otherwise, okay, here's your requirements list:
- 4.4 (L and M are too unfamiliar for your dad)
- Removable battery
- I added 2 GB of RAM in there because I think it's the bare minimum for any kind of daily driver these days
At the very worst, if he's too focused on Samshit, get him an S3 with 1.5 GB of RAM or an S4 mini.
If stock Android is not a problem for him, maybe either the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime\Redmi Note Prime (you'll need to find some AOSP KK rom though, since MIUI is a no-go I assume), or the Xiaomi Mi2\Mi2S.
Another option is the DROID Maxx, whose last official rom is 4.4.4.
>>
>>56371952
>Whats your country m8?

Australia, I get 4g with Amaysim who are under the optus network.

>How do you find it after a week? Smooth? Features?

It's really smooth, I haven't encountered lagging once. Even with multitasking and having games in the background I still have around 700mb free in the ram. I don't really use the phone differently than I would use any other phone so I can't speak as to the features. The only feature I use consistently is the fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner on the back is so convenient I'd never want one on the front on the power button, you just pick up your phone and scan your fingerprint, I have a pin code set up and my fingerprint scanner gets me in instantly so I never even turn on the lock screen.

>I'm getting ready to pull the pin myself.

Do it, but pay for fast postage otherwise you'll be waiting a really long time for it. I bought from an online vendor recommended here called eglobal and I got it in three days.

>I'll be whacking a reasonably full 64gb into it which I hope doesn't chew the performance too much

It has to be formatted in fat32, I have a 32GB in mine and it works fine.

I'm having problems with that, I keep getting the error " Your device isn't supported by Mi Unlock"

I've put in an unlock request but just now im going to try flashing the china dev rom.

Also I'm using a redmi 3 pro (not the note version)

Is there any good android/cyanogen security guides?
I want to make sure that nobody messed up with my bootloader/adb
Add vpn killswitch for shadowsocks or openvpn app
Set up rules for application level firewall
Encrypt phone with long passphrase and have shorter code which will last for few hours only
>>
>>56371432
Seems like it's got the same battery as the X Performance. On a smaller screen and with somewhat downscaled internals it could be a return to form for battery life.
>>
>>56364112
any of you cucks recommend getting the note 7 over the Galaxy S7? I know it's a powerhouse but I don't want to look like a neckbeard holding something large enough to need a stylus? Can you even use it with one hand?
>>
Nexus 6P, Axon 7 or OP3?
>>
>>56372496
Absolutley not.
Read this thread.
Read the previous.
Read the one before that.

Avoid at all costs. You're better off buying a Note 4
>>
>>56372496
Have you ever tried a note? Easier to use than you think and you get used to it fast. You won't look like a neckbeard, it's similar in size to the iPhone 6 plus which was a normie phone
>>
>>56372531
6p for reliability/support, axon 7 for raw power, op3 if you like dildos in and around your ringhole

Anyone else has an unhealthy want for a phone ?

I want a Lumia 950XL

That makes the three of us. Z3 is truely a god-tier phone, I really don't know what to replace it with in a few months.
>>
>>56372578
Is there anything specifically wrong with the OP3? I know it has a pretty meh screen but other than it seems to be pretty popular.
>>
>>56372608
Why do you all like that seemingly underpowered small phone? It looks like a disaster waiting to happen with all that glass
>>
why is this priced so low, these are new phones right?

Coming from an old Motorola g 1st gen.

Thinking of getting a Huawei P9 Lite. Any reason not to?
>>
>>56372566
I held it at the the store yesteday but it seemed large. wondering if you get used to that. it's more expensive than the S7 but seems to be worth it? I don't want to to fall for a meme - almost got the edge before I saw the note 7 yesteday.

>underpowered
SD801 was pretty much the shit when it came out
>small
5.2" is the perfect spot between 4.7 manlet and 5.5+ autismo phablet
>glass
If you're not retarded you put tempered glass and a nice case on every phone, not a scratch on mine after 2 years and many free falls.
>>
>>56372749
Edge might be better then. Note 7 has some issues right now anyways with the performance and the batteries

>>56372760
There is nothing wrong with 5.5. 5.2 is okay, for some reason I thought it was smaller
>>
>>56372800
My hands are nearly the same size of my 2m tall friend's hands so that's not the problem. It's just those note phones are so awskwardly massive in pockets and take half the coffee table when you rest it there, just absolutely unneccessary to me.
>>
What's the most powerful 150 USD phone (used) that I can get atm?
I don't really plan to buy anything new ever, still using an old iphone 3GS but I felt like I should finally buy something """new""".

NEET here btw so I can't waste money.

The nexus 5 is my favorite phone of all time, design vise. Had it since launch, last week the wifi stopped working, and the screen is cracked. Getting it reparied in Norway is almost the price of a new phone. What are some better phones (mostly better battery) that are its size or slightly smaller?
>>
>>56373020
you can fix it for 20 euros

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-display-Screen-Digitizer-ASSEMBLY-Replace-For-LG-Google-Nexus-5-D820-Black-/171427700319

fix it anyway and use it as a backup device
>>
>>56373068
Wont fix the wifi though. Guy at the shop said it was a hardware issue. None of the software "solutions" I have seen have worked, sadly. Hitting my data cap after just a couple of days aint fun.

why shouldn't i pull the trigger and get a nexus 5x, currently in the market for a budget phone for 250 or less
living in the US so LTE is a must

where is safer to buy orginal phones?
amazon or ebay?
>>
>>56373020
If software is a problem, root it using the toolkit.
>>
>>56373090

I'd bet a small hat full of shit that it's some sort of a kink with software side. Flash a new rom and test the wifi out.

Or go all out and get a newer nexus second hand.

I really want to like it but that's another point for the HTC10

It runs TouchWiz, yes. I'm sure he'll be able to handle a new interface after a week of grumbling. I'll look into the Xiaomi Redmi series. Even the Redmi 3 Pro is within budget, despite having an irremovable battery. I'm afraid the Note is too large. Thank you, man.
>>
>>56372843
Damn they are? I thought the edge was a meme? It was the phone I wanted. I don't want to buy another phone for at least a year or two. I'm coming off an iPhone 5S and never want an apple product again. If the note 7 is unnecessary - I just want a phone with good battery, strong enough performance, great camera, microsd slot, slightly waterproof is a plus, if note 7 is over kill then I won't get it.

Half the coffee table is large af. If it's too big for one hand then it's a deal breaker. So is s7 edge what I'm looking for? (Two weeks ago before I heard of note 7 I thought it was). I've just heard too many rave reviews about the note.
