i'm using photorec to recover some files that were on my main partition (~2TB). howerver, the destination folder has significantly less space. this causes photorec to stop partway through and request a new destination. since photorec hasn't found any files yet, the destination folder is still empty.

here's my question.
will it still work if i just use the same destination folder?
i've tried this already and even though photorec is telling me it's on a new pass, i notice the "Reading sector" section starts at 0/3696265216.
is photorec really continuing where it left off? or is it starting over?

So I wanted to install a custom ROM on a Galaxy Y duos, I went with one called Gingeicejelly, so I went into the recovery mode, erased all stuff on it, mounted the directories and installed as the installation guide told me to do, then the install went fine.

Now when booting after the installation of that ROM, it was taking a huge ass time to begin the new ROM, as expected, but I'm not sure what happened, it simply didn't boot in 2 days, and I'm not sure if the battery ran outwhile doing the long first boot, but now I can't even get into recovery mode from the smartphone.

is it dead? Is there something I can do?

Networking question. Should be easy. I'm retarded with networks.

I have my cable modem in my living room, and it sits right next to my router. I have one really long cat5e cable running from my living room router to my office/cave.

In my office, I have my PC. But I want to add other devices: a PS2, PS3, and a couple raspberry pis. I do *not* want to use WiFi, just as a personal preference.

Can I add a network switch and have it all working fine? The really long cat5 cable would connect the router to the switch, and all the devices in my office would also connect to the switch.

Ideally, I would have all these devices on the same subnet: PC on 192.168.1.100, PS2 on 192.168.1.105, etc. The living room router would manage all these IPs, right?

This is actually simplified, because my cable modem is a router as well. The cable modem built in router uses 192.168.0.1, and all the devices in my living room (Roku, HTPC) use that subnet. I do not want the devices in my living room to be able to connect to my shares on 192.168.1.x.

you can probably flash some nice things through fastboot (if your pre-war device supports it), or just try getting into recovery through different ways. One of my smartphones needed to be connected to charger with vol up to get into recovery after i flashed bad system image.

For the people who know alot about cellphones/smartphones. My friend bought a new iPhone and he asked if I wanted his, problem is he said the phone has this problem because he changed the battery to a non-genuine one (original old one was garbage) and he said that now when he connects to itunes to play or update (??? i have no idea what he does) it says error 29 and doesn't work, he says the phone works fine tho (???).

Couple questions:

1. Aren't iPhones pretty much bound to a specific account? will I be able to use my own account and will he be able to use his account on another iPhone?

2. How do I fix this supposed error 29? I saw some stuff in youtube saying to try using the old battery in the meantime but he lost the old battery, what do?

Thanks
>>
>>56332293
Yes, you can use switch to connect many devices, this is what it was designed for.

You can also buy cheap router (which will be cheaper than a switch) and connect your devices there, but i guess pc+ps2+ps3+couple rpis means there is more than four devices. So, switch.

>ip assign
switches have transparent mode, then it works like simple "network splitter". Router will do all DHCP.
>>

i bet it's a clock. Set up correct date and time.
>>
>>56332367
No, iphones are not tied to accounts, he just needs to log out - if he does not log out, then you wont be able to use it.

The only reason you need to plug it in to itunes is to back it up, add music from comp and images.

Though, there are different applications to put files onto an iPhone. And it may be itunes having the error. Apple hates it when you tamper with their products - so sometimes there is no error, they are trying to lock you out.

So lets say I get on one of the computers at my college, which is connected to the colleges internet connection.

In order to do this, I have to go to one guy and tell them I want one, he proceeds to assign me one and allow me in.

If I use this computer, enter on my facebook, email, etc, do they have access somehow to this information? Is there a way they can see it?

>>
>>56332949
Ohms are resistance. Lower = easier to drive as in requires less power to get decent sound out of, but generally high impedance headphones will sound a bit better if you can drive them.

32 ohms vs 60 ohms doesn't matter too much, both will be driven easily by a PC/phone. At 200 ohms+, not so much.

i was programming in pascal before i knew english, when i learnt english i was suprised about how logical all of those weird programming words were

all you might want for programming itself is bunch of basic words programmers use in their libraries. But another thing is searching for information - all of documentations are in english, good tutorials are in english. Also, english is almost always basic requirement for any proper programming job, at least in my country.

If you're capable of writing a post that people understand, i guess learning how to program shouldn't be any problem for you.

Hey guys, so there was a lighting storm the other day and it seems like it broke my brother's tv and pc, he brought the pc to me in order to see if it could be saved, the thing is, the motherboad won't boot at all, things I have tried

>removed everything from the mother board
>reset cmos
>took away battery
>tried another power supply
>checked the motherboard for broken or burnt stuff

The power supply from the pc still works on another pc, everything seems to work ok, except the motherboard who doesn't beep nor turns led's on

Is there a way to know for certain if the motherboard is really dead?
>>
I bought a used motherboard a few months ago and recently I've been getting random reboots. No BSOD (the linux equivalent of a BSOD anyway), just a full on reboot, POST screen showing

I believe it's caused by the RAM when dual channel is activated; meaning: if I only use a single channel, everything runs well but I'm limited, if I use all 4 RAM slots then the computer reboots at random

But around the same time this has started happening, I've bought a new CPU and I've installed another graphics card which is making me think that maybe I'm using too much power
Could it be the PSU?

I upped the CPU/NB voltage and DRAM voltage but it still reboots
In memtest86+ I get zero errors when sticks in slots 1 and 3. I get TWO errors when there are 3 sticks of ram in slots 1, 2 and 3. When I add to the fourth slot I get thousands of errors. But when I up the voltage these errors go away...

Could it be this motherboard? Could the second channel's slots just be fucked?
Is this a simple fix or am I retarded?
>>
>>56334021
Sounds pretty dead
>>
>>56334021
try all his other parts with your motherboard

>>56334052
if the same stick does not get any error is one slot but does in another, its the mobo.

if you can run at higher volt to get around the errors just do that.
>>
>>56334052
>installed another graphics card
As in added a second one or replaced a different one?

Either way if you increased the power load of your system your PSU might not be sufficient for the new higher load.
>>
>>56334052
maybe mobo power section dies

Okay, the intel site isn't too clear on this, so hopefully one of y'all can help me.

Under the listing for my i7-4790K, in the "Memory Specifications" category it says the "Memory Types" are 1333 and 1600.

Does that mean I can only use memory with speeds of 1333 and 1600? Or is that an internal thing with the processor? If I buy 1866 will it only max at 1600 speed?

Included is a picture from the site, hope it helps.

You can use the integrated GPU together with the Nvidia one.
You need to enable the setting in the BIOS, in case your setup supports it.

Though, I can't remember what the setting is called.

But, you should just connect your monitors to the Nvidia gpu if that's what you're trying to achieve. A dvi-i port outputs vga compatible analog video if it's about that.
>>
>>56335784
You need to look at your motherboard RAM compatibility.

If a micro SD card suddenly stops being readable by a USB reader(that can still read other cards), is there any way to salvage it? Additional information: at least one of the cards did have some success being read via being loosely placed within the reader/the reader being loosely placed within the USB port(auto play kicks in, managed to extract an entire directory of text files through several small copy/paste before it fails to read/recognise the card). Most of the time, I just get "insert a disk into drive 'x'" message.

>>56335806
It depends entirely on the motherboard. The stuff listed on Intel's website is just the guaranteed supported speeds.
Motherboard manufacturer's can make their stuff work with much faster RAM if they want (and they have done this).

So yeah, your mobo will work with faster RAM. That said, you wont notice any difference at all.

That's the window that opens when I try to run anything with admin rights. I can't type in my admin account user pass.

Ok. Can't hurt I guess. Trying it now.

I created a page today which came up as a false positive on Facebooks anti-malware AI, which then locked me out of my account and prompted me to run their anti-malware scanner.
Issue is, the stupid shit doesn't work. Downloaded it numerous times, ran as administrator, it just sits in the background chewing up memory doing nothing.
Is there any way to contact Facebook to let them know it was a false positive and to regain access to my account? As far as I'm aware the only way to access support through the site is through your account, which I'm unfortunately locked out of now.
>>
>>56336926
find computer that is not that computer
download scanner
run
pass test
return to old computer
continue to use your bad social media site

?

>>56336808
Oh, thank you mate.
>>
>>56336944
It only identifies with this computer, it allows me access to my account through my phone and other devices. Not sure why they recognize this computer specifically.
Issue is I need access to it through this computer for businesses, don't particularly feel like managing a page through mobile and uploading images.

I need /g/ guidance, after I turned on my PC this morning I can't manage to play anything at all due to the 0xc0000007b error, I do know it is related to DirectX/Microsoft Visual C++ packages, but giving me this error out of nowhere without installing/uninstalling anything the past days seems awfully odd.

I've been trying a lot of stuff, now uninstalling/repairing the C++ packages manually.

Also can't manage to uninstall DirectX stuffs, any tip to help me fix this?
>>

Already checked on mobile/settings, no way to access their support. Plus their support system takes nearly months for a non automated response, even longer for niche issues such as this.
Just tried with another browser, issue is coming up here as well. Any way to reset Facebook detecting my Laptop so it comes up as a new device?
(Plus this Q is in the stupid questions thread for a reason)

Try running sfc /scannow , and DISM if you're on 8 or 10

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki/windows_10-update/system-file-check-sfc-scan-and-repair-system-files/bc609315-da1f-4775-812c-695b60477a93

You can remove a lot of reluctant things with Revo uninstaller, but Directx really isn't meant to be uninstalled.

https://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-to-uninstall-directx-and-reinstall-to-repair-directx/2/

You could download a new copy of directx and try installing it over the old one. You could also just try reverting to a recent restore point when things were working correctly.
>>
is 2133 mhz ram enough or does it not matter?
>>
>>56337284
Tried the sfc /scannow, no result.

The restore points are apparently only of today and after the error has ocurred apparently.

Well if you're on windows 7 I suggest you start working your way down the links in this thread

If coding languages are in english does that disadvantage non-english speakers when they want to learn to code? I would consider such an unfair advantage to Anglos as a privilege that needs to be checked. Perhaps someone should make a chinese or arabic version of C++ or Java as to end the inequality!!

My mobile devices leak the IP when I'm using my VPN. The (Open)VPN server is running on one of my machines in Germany and I can successfully connect to it when I'm visiting other countries e.g. Korea, but pretty much all sites still detect that I am in Korea and not Germany. It all worked some months ago (definitely worked when I was in China, pretty sure it was also fine when I was in S Korea). Different phone now, but same VPN client configuration. After some googling I thought it could have been the browser leaking it (WebRTC), but even when that is disabled it shows my real location. Any idea what could be causing this?

Some things are just better done in engrish, like air traffic controllers, because it's the most commonly accepted international language. Not much way around that.

Maybe your shitty culture should have been investing in technology in the 20th century. You could have had clicks and whistles as syntax.

Nope. They're just additional security risks, especially java. Add them when/if you need them.

Is a PC like this worth upgrading piecemeal or would I be better served to save up and replace everything in one go?

You're barking up the wrong tree with this one. By all means go write an a-lingual programming language, but you're not going to see a high adoption rate. Having one agreed upon central language is useful as fuck, and Esperanto really didn't take off that way.

Sorry, am on a phone, meant to type ddr3.

This is what I was actually most concerned about. I opened it up and looked at the slots and there's not a lot of space left there for more ram (if any), and I might not be able to fit one of the newer cards in the case if they're larger than what I have now.

Ah well. I guess I'll look forward to next year, by which time I can convert this into a secondary machine and put together something new.

If i create a public page on a social network, post in it a unique enough string and then google that string, i'll find the page i created. Now if i delete the page, and search the string again, i'll find the same google results, even with the text preview, but if i click on the page i'll get a not found error. My question is: for how long google/others search engine stores these things? They never do a check to see if their results link to non existing pages?

>>
>>56338278

>>
>>56337927
There's nothing stopping people from doing that. Just not enough interest for it I guess since it would be a lot of work and it's usually easier for people to just learn the few English terms necessary.
>>
>>56338080
Most of those parts are still good but that motherboard probably won't support much expansion. And if the mobo is too old, you're basically at the point where everything is up for grabs anyway. Build a new one next time instead.

>On my phone, I was on my camera roll and clicked send to text message but picked the wrong recipient.
so an MMS? you'd need to talk to your telco about that
if her phone's on then it probably got through pretty quickly though, only way at that point is to delete the message on her phone itself
