Is it a video? Might be able to read the name in video more easily.

Could be a vintage Waltham. I've seen them do the whole "2 4 6" numerals with odd makers being applied circular indicies.
>>
>>56228710
Gorgeous can you tell me more about this watch?
>>
>>56228726
Actually the name looks shorter than Waltham possibly. Maybe a maker like Benrus would be a better guess. They often has some sort of design or logo accompanying their name on the dial, but sometimes it was alone.

Without sounding too much like a shill while I do.

Steinhart Ocean Vintage Military.
-2824-2 Elaboré movement.
-Sapphire Crystal
-Screw down caseback and crown
-All solid bracelet and end-links
-120 point rotating bezel
-300m WR
-316L Stainless steel case
-Super Luminova hands + dial
-£315/€350/$400

That's the thing in a nutshell.

2 pet peeves about mine.
-The engraving on the caseback rips holy fuck out of my arm when I rotate the bezel.

-End-centre link is squared off, and produces an aesthetic flaw.

But otherwise it's nice enough, wears smaller than my Vostok by a notable margin, but a fair bit larger than my Orient Marshall.
Bezel has nice heavy clicks to it and locks in well.

The AR is near completely useless though. Sat in work the thing might as well be a mirror when I go to check the time, though I am right beneath a fair number of lights, which doesn't help the situation.

Really nice watch for the price though. Only thing that comes near is the Obris Morgan Explorer 2. Which I'm pretty sure is sold out on pre order for the next 5 batches. Wouldn't be surprised if not more.

watch is possible from the same era as the gun.
>>
>>56228541
It's got pushers for changing the dates and such. From my understanding though you're not really supposed to fuck with a perpetual calendar once it's set. There are certain times of the day where if you even try to change the date you can mess up the movement. The JLC has a little indicator on the dial that tells you the hours when you're not supposed to try and set anything.

FYI, ToxicNATOs, despite the crime inducing name, makes the most comfortable NATO or zulu straps I've ever tried by a wide margin.

Clearly a better nylon material than Timefactors, Maratac, Cheapest NATO Straps, or NATO Strap Co.

No matter what the first reply of this thread is people are always going to have a problem with it. Be glad it was at the very least a good looking watch and not an invicta or some fossil-ised dog shit.

Contrary to popular believe Ian actually does not waste time on things like this.
I was only interested in it because he never wore watches before and it seems like this may be from the same era and/or some relation to Mauser historically or whatever.

>>
>>56229068
He seems like a man who can appreciate quality engineering. So wouldn't be too difficult to think that perhaps he may have a hidden interest in watches.

Could also just be that he takes his watches off before a video as to more easily handle some of the weapons without rubbing off or scratching them against his watch causing damage to both.

Going on vacation soon and I want to make a good impression on my future in-laws. Ordered a custom pressed suit with initialed cuffs from Ralph Lauren, now I need a watch. I am trying to decide on these two because its the two I always wanted.

Omega - $2000-$2500 used

Sinn - $1000-$1250 used

Of course the Omega is more but I am expected to spend $7-8k on this vacay anyways. What do /k/?

Look into Steinhart.

-ETA 7750, the same movement found in IWC's version of this very same watch
-Sapphire
-better finished than the Sinn
-great customer support that Steinhart is known for
-731+30 shipping if you are in the US

Overall a better value than both.

A Speedmaster is for life.

For a dress watch I would recommend a white face, it is clashes less with your white shirt which of course is so starched you can cut yourself and white enough to come with a pair of shades.
>>
>>56231031
wtf?
>>
>>56229960
If it were a <$500 watch I would agree. But with a $1800 watch, without a clean room and gloves, you are going to get dust and skin all over the dial when you open it. And that would bother the fuck out of me for an actually expensive watch.
>>
>>56230896

>>56230921
Look man its on sale, and it looks decent. The same one from Armani would have been $3500.
>>
>>56230896
If they aren't watch people they will probably only be impressed by a Tag Heuer or Rolex. For sure the average joe isn't going to be impressed by Sinn since it's basically an unknown brand. Sadly even if you buy an Omega they probably won't even know the brand.
>>
>>56231513
Omega is pretty strongly marketed with James Bond. People who are somewhat brand-aware may know it. And they got their shit all over the Olympics.

But yeah, in general if you want to try to impress non-watch people it's all about that Rolex coronet.
>>
>>56231578
I agree the Seamaster is a well known watch due the bond movies. However few people will recognise a Speedmaster.
>>
>>56231595
Also even though people will recognise the Seamaster, they only know it as "that watch bond wears" and won't even know the actual name of the brand.

How do you press a suit so it's considered custom?

>>
>>56232277
Custom pressed meaning it needs to be pressed/ironed every time I wear it. And I only plan on using it twice this vacation.

Also no I will not get whatever watch wet...
>>
>>56231781
Seiko has a whole bunch of vintage watches from the 60's-70's that are pretty good

Seahorse being one, skyliner, sportsmen, lord matic, lord marvel, A heap of King seiko

Just don't buy from India or Thailand. A good place to start might be a king Quartz, pretty cheap, a quartz so you won't have to worry about servicing it when you get it and above all the are very reliable and accurate, old mechanical watches can be a pain sometimes
>>
>>56228953
The AR is designed to help it read underwater only IIRC the OVM has the same AR as the Seamaster so saying the OVM is useless is like saying the Seamaster is useless. I work at an american engineering firm and this is the trend I have noticed. The >$200 watches that young people between 20-30 year olds are basically all Tag Heurers. I've talked to some of them and they basically bought them for the brand and don't know anything about watches. They are also mainly Chinese or Indian that have been living here for most of their life (not FOBs). Some of them don't even know that their watch is mechanical and assume it's quartz. The older folks generally don't care about watches at all and just wear Seiko quartz, Casio G-Shocks, or random mall quartz watches like Michael Kors. The only older person I've seen with an expensive watch wears a Breitling chronograph.

It's based off of the ST2130 ebauche so it's technically Chinese. But yeah, it's an ETA clone with some upgrades: an extra jewel for the barrel arbor and a thinner mainspring which adds 6 hours on top of the 2824 power reserve.

Have I finally achieved full autismo with my digital on a velcro strap?
>>
>>56234454

Not quite, a Casio calculator watch on velcro I think would be the absolute pinnacle.
>>
>>56234360
I'd assume they would use the ETA 2824, but yea was merely pointing out that Swiss movement doesn't amount to much in these types of watches.
>>
>>56234037
The 7s26 does not hack or handwind. So if you can live with that (and the very generous factory accuracy tolerance of ~25 sec/day - though usually much better than that), then go for it.
>>
>>56234792
What would my alternatives be? I REALLY like the size and the design.

I actually do happen to have an old Casio calculator watch. I'll swap it to this strap as soon as I get home.

Wtf, this watch suddenly started running fast while on the winder (no problems before on the same winder). The only possible explanation is slight magnetization, since the day before this started happening, I went up to the observation deck of the tallest building in my city (maybe the elevator or broadcasting equipment on the roof?). But why only on the winder? The other watches I put in the same winder didn't get this problem...

The only other alternative I can think of that has a similar design and close to your price range ($40 over) would be an Orient Automatic Aviator, but that would increase the size to 42mm.

If you want to preserve the size, but get a better movement, you'll have to get a SARB or something, but then it wouldn't have the aviator styling and you'd have to more than triple your budget.

Why would I even be remotely triggered by you buying the snakeoil of watches? People buying thousand dollar watches because its "swiss made" is no smarter than the average rich kid whose parents bought them a Tag. Also I heard from a good source that Sinn and Steinhart both German companies btw, get parts from the same suppliers. So you're full of shit when you say the OVM is a mirror, especially when every review on the internet says differently. Because unless you want to admit that Sinn watches are shit as well, then you have no argument. The only difference between Sinn and Steinhart is that Steinhart not overpriced.

Habibi if you're gonna shill do it right
Sinn does share a supplier, with fucking ALS

So how about you take your shitty little "german" watch, shove it up your diseased ass and fuck off back to poo land?
The .0001 rupees you make per post really can't be worth the humiliation.

And for the record Stienshit is entirely chink derived, except for the movement. They get the bargin bin version of the 2824 then use chinese factory worker pussy sweat as a lubricant.

Their crystals are also from chink land, and when they do bother to use AR lest you burn your fucking retinas trying to read their bastardization of the Submariner dial, they use the shitty kind that barely even makes a difference in refraction- all so they can say "AR coated" on their shitty web 1.0 website.

Lets not even talk about the ceramic bezels that just "mysteriously" crack - but hey, anything to try and be like Rolex and Omega right?
Their bracelets are chink trash, pins with soft pot metal collars that can deform; literally fucking pathetic.

Even our cute little guido autist with lung failure couldn't keep one, they're THAT trash.

Notice how I trashed your precious baby daddy without even comparing to Seiko or whatever? That's called making an argument, try learning that skill; it's useful when shutting down Indian sub-humans like yourself.

All of them lies. Okay let's compare two Titanium watches shall we?

Steinhart O1 T500(515
€) v Sinn T-1($3300)
-Sinn 1000m v. Steinhart 500m: got me there, however if you're doing 1000m+ then might as well get a Derpsea
-Both titanium
-Both use Soprod A10 Top grade
-Both has Sapphire AR Steinhart has AR on both sides Sinn only the inside
-Steinhart has a ceramic bezel lined with Super Luminova Sinn has black and red paint...
-Steinhart is certified by DINN, Sinn is not certified for jack shit
-Steinhart T500 being sold used has appreciated for 20%-50% of its value, you can get a Sinn T-1 on ebay now for $1500

Stop trying to peddle your snake oil saying its better than Steinhart. Your Sinn is shit, and all it says about you is you can't afford a fucking Rolex.

No because the magnetization doesn't affect the mainspring or other parts. It only affect the balance wheel, basically the magnet makes it so the balance wheel couldn't turn to its full range of movement. The balance wheel is basically a watch use to measure a full second. Making it so it can't move the full range makes the second go slightly faster.

The whole purpose of a spring-mass balance wheel is to separate driving force and amplitude from oscillation period. Magnetised parts obviously change the period but not through the amplitude.

I don't know the exact mechanism, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that magnetising the balance spring changes its torque/angle characteristics which would change the period, and so non-metallic springs avoid this, as opposed to making anything else non-metallic.

Both have clearly misaligned seconds hands. People might suspect you of wearing a frankenwatch or a fake, perhaps not the image you are trying to project here.

Unless you dive on a regular basis this watch makes you look like a poseur. The only good thing to say about these is that they are well lumed.

You are right about the date window, all watch should have one. Preferably also day.

Probably. I cannot comprehend why anyone would wear a watch without a date.
>>
>>56245081

I'm pretty indifferent about date vs no-date watches. What bothers me is when they fuck up the date implementation like the 311 thing when the date is on a sub dial or expensive watches where they can't be bothered to color match the date wheel to the dial.

How many watches do you own that makes buying a timegrapher worth it? Do you regulate all of them yourself? Or just check if they need regulation and bring them to a watchmaker?

I have a 6 or so automatics. I've built my own from parts too. I regulate the watches I have rate issues with. Sometimes there is poor regulation out of the factory and sometimes I drop them and it messes with the rate so I'll adjust it to back to normal again. With the timegrapher, you can adjust the beat error using the second lever as well.
>>
>>56250864
>drop them and it messes with the rate
In your experience, does this usually only happen with cheap movements with shitty shock absorption? Or are ETA watches with Incablock also susceptible? I thought magnetization would be a likely event to worry about.
>>
>>56250946
*more likely event
>>
>>56250946
I've dropped a Seiko 5 and an Orient Ray before and it messed up the rate. My Orient was +3 s/d with no beat error, but after a fall on tile floor went to -20 s/d with beat error. I'm still trying to adjust that one back to a good rate.

I also used to have a Komandirskie that had a +50 s/d rate new. I adjusted it best I could and eventually gave it away. I've since bought a new Komandirskie and Amphibia and the rate from factory is a lot better than my first one. Pic is my new Amphibia. Average rate is decent but the isochronism is terrible and the rate wobbles around. Might have been due to the fact that when I got it, it wasn't even working and had a metal shaving stuck between two gears.

Crown down. I try to make sure anything I adjust has good rate in at least the face up and crown down position. Face up cause I put watches on the table face up when not wearing them, also when sitting at desk working it's mainly face up, and crown down because that's the way it is when standing/walking.

Requirements? Do you need to swim/snorkel/dive with it? If you don't need it to be waterproof I'd recommend the Certina DS-2, a cheapish TC quartz. I wouldn't get an automatic unless you are really into watches, since they require adjustment, service, etc... With a TC quartz you won't need to ever set it except for daylight savings time.

>>56253258
Bambino = tough as nails, might not be as accurate as the Eco-Drive forcing you to maybe adjust it once every 6 months. If you take care of it holds value pretty well.

Eco-Drive = More accurate, higher power reserve unless you're some sort of neet that stays in doors all day. Value drops to zero the moment you walk out of the store. If you don't plan on selling it the Eco is a better buy because its probably more accurate and more reliable than the Bambino.

Basically this, if you want to get into watch collection as well as the trading aspect of this hobby get the Bambino. Orient retains its value pretty well, yes you will take a hit but not as much as a hit with a Seiko/Citizen. Orient's resale pales in comparison to a Steinhart for some reason however.

I'll keep that in mind.

Honestly, I might just get the Bambino since I care more about the style/value over practicality, even though I may not sell it. Wear that everyday instead of buying two pieces.

But I'm just not sure about the size (over 40mm). I'm a sub40mmfag and it might be slightly big - 38 may be ideal. Any sub 40mm Bambino-like watches in the price range suitable for EDC?

Been thinking of saving up for the Sarb, but $350 is too much for a poor Uni student just starting w/ watches
