weird question but I got a philips 242g5 monitor (I know its not great but I got it for cheap in an ebay auction, and I wanted 144hz) but when its on 120/144hz I got these weird horizontal lines moving vertically on the monitor, like scan lines in some other monitors. Hello /g/ I need your help to pick up a messaging app, also I've 2 coupons for 3 months of TODOIST Premium to offer to the 2 most valuable answers.

Features need:
-Messaging/Calling
-Integrated sharing within other apps
-Secure and Privacy oriented
-Easy to configure and use by non-tech people

Bonus features:
-Multiplatform(Linux)
-Open-Source

I've used some, like qTox a year ago but it was too buggy and only let me send files if the person was at the same time online as me, and also the client ID account was different for Android and Linux so you couldn't use the same account.

The last 2 times I tried to use ebay to buy something I entered my credit card information. The first time it took me months to realize that instead of using my credit card, it charged to a magic 'paypal credit' account that I apparently had, and I'd gathered like $20 in interest. Now I'm stuck in a customer service limbo game of bullshit trying to pay off a balance I have from ordering a camera 3 days ago, because they don't want to just charge my debit card.

How can I use ebay without going near PayPal? Has anyone had similar experience, or advice?

Anyone familiar with LibreCAD know what the fuck happened here? All the lines still have their correct dimensions if I check their properties (i.e it says they are not as long as they appear visually), but they're also shown as being max length (40,000) and I haven't a clue what caused this.

What are the possible reasons my home WiFi network would default back to factory settings?

>Be uploading 100MB of photos to dropfile for a friend, lock it at 100KBs to prevent complete bandwidth usage
>leave for a few hours for college
>come home (live with parents)
>upload died, WiFi network is renamed, password changed, brother is playing dumb saying he didn't do anything
>router settings need admin password which I put in place because he kept fucking resetting the router thinking it would give better ping in tf2 (internet we have is shit to begin with)

I guess it was probably your brother there is a hard reset switch on most routers which you push with a paperclip to reset them to default settings.
>>

You reinstall it on another laptop and move your files and programs manually.
Unless its the same laptop with the same specs and parts you cant.

1. Your windows key is probably a OEM key, can only be used in your current motherboard
2. You cant just copy your HDD and use it on another computer without reinstalling your OS.
etc.

He is most likely resetting to factory setting(the pinhole button you hold for X seconds)
The only way to remedy this is to get a wooden bat, and break one of his shins. Now go and setup your router, and if it is reset again, continue until he understands how things are going to go

You can't keep a good newb down. If someone has physical access to your router, there's no way to prevent a hard reset. Best you can do is lock it up in a bookcase or something. Incidentally, unless you're using a modem/router combo with a separate router attached, probably nothing you do is going to have much impact on ping, not that you'll get him to believe that.

>>56217529
You can try running it through virustotal.com, but that won't do shit if it's well concealed or has a zero-day in it. There's really no way of knowing for sure if there's something fucked up in it. Software piracy is inherently risky.

i am having a problem and i wanted to see your opinion,,,i just bought a wifi network card for my desktop, and also, id never install the correct chipset drivers on my pc, i just found out were to get the factory ones for my motherboard.

Well id always had a warning in the device manager about "pci simple communitions manager"(or something like that) driver, that is in not installed properly, but, it never gave me any issues, I had a pci gen3 video card and worked fine,,,,but,,,,i think this driver is for the other, "old" pci, like the network adaptor one,,,

the issue is,,,,i installed the card, the system recognized it, i install the driver, no problem, apparently, to windows, everything is fine, but the card is basically not working at all.

it is obviously cause of my bad chipset drivers? its not a defective card?.

now...what do you think is the fastest way to find out...i was thinking that the "good" way to do things would be to wipe my pc clean, reinstall OS and correct drivers....

but i am a lazy fuck....do you think there is another way?
>>
>>56217660
Again, the problem is there's no way to reliably test if malware has been added. Open source cracks aren't generally a thing. And you have to think WHY people are cracking things. Being able to literally botnet your computer gives them incentive. Now if you get things from a quality private tracker or something, they may be a little less fucked, but again there's usually no way of knowing. You may just be getting the version with one trojan instead of 30.

You could use screen or its more complicated cousin tmux. Essentially they run bash sessions in the background which you can attach and detach from. Dropping wifi will cause you to detach but you can simply reattach when you reconnect. Anything running under the session will keep running. They also allow you to scroll back through the history including anything you missed.

They also have advanced features like various "tabs" with different sessions, and splitting the terminal into multiple sessions.

is this going to be a fucking pain?

nope.
just place the ffmpeg folder wherever you want, then add that folder to your environment variables.(so you can just type ffmpeg in command prompt)

computer > right-click > properties > advanced system settings > environment variables.

scroll down the list for a variabled called "path", and add the ffmpeg folder to it.

for example;
D:\7-Zip;D:\ffmpeg

if you dont want to bother with the environment variables, then you'll have to call ffmpeg from the folder.

path/to/ffmpeg -i anime.mkv -map 0:s:0 subs.srt

I only just built it last year, and I don't know all that much about computers and stuff. So my question is, is there any special way I should go about moving my computer into my dorm? Like should I take it apart before I load my stuff into my car?
>>
>>56217909
Could be. I've seen PSU issues cause all sorts of weird, hard to reproduce problems. Do you have another PSU you could swap in to see if it fixes the issue?
>>
>>56217909
Could be PSU, but did you do any driver updates recently?

How old is the psu itself? (I might be retarded but I was under the impression that when they go bad usually everything will stop working at the same time).

Screen should have no knowledge about whether your SSH session is active or not. If you hit "Ctrl+A [" (hit control A to enter command mode, then [ to enter copy/scroll mode) to active scroll mode, can you scroll up through your history? If there is nothing there, you probably aren't running your tasks under screen. In that case, its time to RTFM.

Unplug it, remove anything that's not 100% secure or might bang around like ssds. Tie any wires to places in the case if you have a rats nest.

Make sure everything is in place before plugging it back in, and bring a powerstrip/surge protector because dorms are retarded and usually don't have them or enough outlets to begin with.

Consider a long Ethernet cable in case the layout is retarded as well.

Basically don't drop the thing or boot it with PSU wires wrapped around the fans and you'll be fine.

Leave it assembled. You components are pretty safe inside the case. Put it some place where it won't be banging around in your car and whatnot, but otherwise you don't need to take any special precautions. Remember, OEMs ship desktops with normal shipping services that are pretty rough on them.

The only thing I would recommend is that you take a quick look inside to make sure all your connections are well seated before powering it on.

i do, but even with the card disconnected and the driver uninstalled, the new driver for the controller comes in package for the motherboard, and the old one installed is conflicting with the installation of the new one, and, there is no way i know to uninstall those chipset packages, you could go by hand and uninstall drivers from the device manage, but there is no way to know which drivers correspond to the chipset package, and in total they were like 4 driver packages,...so...to install new drivers, need to uninstall old, and i dont know which specific drivers in the device manager are the ones going to be replaced by the new set.

i think there is no way out, going to have to reinstall everything from scratch,....

Batteries get old. It's normal to have a phone not last like it did when you first got it. You could by a replacement battery or maybe even an expansion if you don't mind your phone being a little thicker. From a software standpoint you could try to root and debloat, maybe use greenify. You could also try a custom rom like CM that's lighter on resources. Or just get an external battery pack for midday charges.

well the card shows up in the device manager, also in the network adapters settings of the network sharing center, its there, enabled, but, there is no wi-fi networks being detected, and my cellphone does get them, i created a hotspot next to the adapter, and nothing,

it doesnt search for networks, an icon doesnt show up telling m there is no signal, or available networks,

if i disable all other network adapters to force windows to use the wireless, i still get no searching for networks at all, and doesnt pick up the hotspot next to it.

Its like its there, but doesnt do anything

i was hoping that those pci controllers were responsible,

but you are right, i will try it out in another pc before anything.

here is the compatible id's line from the pci controller, thanks.

I'm trying to make a new 32gb partition but apparently there are "unmovable files" in the way.

Is there any way to move them? maybe some bootable tool I can use?

pls help, any ideas? Are there any way to decrypt RSA with a RZA4096 key to get the files back?

You're not leaving a lot of space for your OS there. I would think about uninstalling that recovery partition first so you don't have to steal as much from windows. EaseUS Partition manager is good at moving files for a resize.

Just noticed you're using bitlocker. You may need to decrypt the drive before you can shrink it.

I'm struggling to come to decision on which GPU I want to buy.

MSI RX480 4GB for 250, or
MSI RX470 8GB for 240.

Im running 1080p 60hz monitor, so I'm leaning on just going with a 470, but it's hard for me to pull the trigger.
>>
>>56220318
The purpose of the recovery partition is only to help you reinstall windows and whatever programs the manufacturer gave you. If you're using windows 10 you can burn a new copy from their website any time, and most of the programs that come with your computer are bloatware, so getting rid of them is more of a bonus.
>>

1) I'm installing debian on an 8gb usb for semi-permanent use. How bad an idea is this?

2) I really do not want to use windows 10 but it's the only reliable os I have, how do I gut out the botnet part?

So I started reading "Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software" and I can't figure out why the OR logic gate exists. Wouldn't having two wires connected do the same thing as an OR logic gate?

I drew what I'm trying to explain here, doesn't the top one do the same function as the bottom one?
>>
>>56220531
not without a switch on the wires.
>>
>>56220563
Well yeah, I didn't bother drawing the whole thing with switches and power and where the output goes. I'm just curious what the difference is. In both of them if one or both of the inputs have power than the output will have power, so why does the OR logic gate exist?
>>
>>56220654

It will be noticeably slower than installing to an HDD or SDD. Also it might decrease the lifespan of your flashdrive, which isn't a big deal cost wise but be sure to back up anything important. I see no reason not to use at least a 32 gb given how cheap they are these days. For windows 10 there's no way to completely "debotnet" but you can reduce telemetry with certain tools

I'm trying to make a linked duplicate in blender but for some reason it's not working at all in this .blend file and I can't figure out why

It works perfectly fine when I go in any other blender file but in this one they simply don't fucking work

I don't even know if linked duplicates will work for what I'm trying to do either

I want to remove some instances of this array without having to remove the benefit of only having to edit one object instead of 18 all at once.

I'm trying to burn an bootable DVD from a win 7 ISO. I've tried multiple programs and I get an error at the very end of burning the disc. Just replace the sensor with a switch.

If it's a DC motor you'll break it. If it's AC with a step down converter you'll break it.

Looks like the array breaks the link and makes it impossible to create linked duplicates

now that I think about it the sword also have a mirror modifier so that would prevent linked dupes as well

what the fuck am I going to do now?
>>
>>56220887
Microsoft has an official tool for that if rufus isn't working for you

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool

But why not just use a flashdrive? Also you might try comparing the checksum to official sources to make sure your iso isn't damaged.

I made a script that makes backups of my server (just games/movies/random shit) onto mega. I split it up into 50GB for each account. My question is, will they notice and kill my accounts? I mean for having more than one.. I encrypt everything I put on there.
Anyone have experience with that?

Oh my, do I have a shitty question!

I have a Thinkpad T400 with an Intel Core 2 Duo and 4GB of RAM. I can play Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 just fine with high settings. There's one other game I want to play which is Call of Duty World at War. It was so laggy (even with the lowest settings) that I couldn't get through the first level. I'm wondering if an external GPU would help or if it's just a meme. I was looking at this since then games I play are from 2009 and before.

https://www.amazon.com/Club3D-Graphics-External-Solution-CSV-2301/dp/B00PB82D6U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1471930034&sr=8-5&keywords=external+gpu

Thanks in advance.

What kind of ribbon cable? Most of them can be replaced easily. If you're talking about the one connecting the screen to the main board then those are usually replaced easily. Some disassembly required so if you've never done this kind of thing before, buy the part online and take the PC+new part to a local repair shop and ask how much to install it. Be nice and you might get it back the same day.
