Is spring drive better than mechanical? How so?
>>
>>56184224
Spring Drive has an electronic circuit to regulate accuracy. Technically its more accurate but a lot more things can go wrong. Overall a Rolex will only lose 1-2sec a day, spring drive brings it down to maybe 0.75 sec. It's up to you if the trade off is worth it.
>>
>>56184277
How many seconds does quartz lose?
>>
>>56184292
Around that much. Digital is where its at though. Seiko also has a quartz that loses/gains no more than 10 seconds a year.
>>
>>56184292
Quartz is 0.5 sec a day.

I think its higher, from what I read its around 2+/- average. There are some quartz that is +/-0 like this one.

I am not disagreeing with you, however an average quartz is +/-2 seconds. We are talking like shitty Guess to cheapo Seikos. Of course there are more accuracy quartz, like pic related which is my beater which is 1/20,000th of a second a day or +/- 10 Seconds a year.
>>
>>56184474
>my quartz is special

No.

>a typical quartz clock or wristwatch will gain or lose 15 seconds per 30 days (within a normal temperature range of 5 °C/41 °F to 35 °C/95 °F) or less than a half second clock drift per day when worn near the body.
>>
>>56184312
Digital and quartz are two different things.

>>56184338
Quartz is like 1minute per month for absolute dogshit chinese 1 dollar movements. Sometimes worse. That is around Rolex accuracy or worse.

+-30 seconds a month for something like a F91W, one of Casio's least accurate watches. About the same or slightly worse than some very high end expensive watches.

Meanwhile most any quartz more expensive than that will be around twice as accurate or better, +-15 seconds a month. So like your 40 dollar g-shock is there. That's the same as a Spring Drive, +-15 seconds a month.
>>
Quartz nearly destroyed the mechanical watch industry and Switzerland but they managed to ruse some people into still paying through the nose for their less accurate watches as evidenced in this thread.

>>
>>56184474
I don't know whether I love or hate this design
>>
>>56184570
Why did you think COSC was founded a few years after Quartz was established. I'm not a quartz guy because of batteries, however having to pay $700-$1000 every 5 years because lol Rolex is kinda dumb. Maybe this is an avenue Rolex should have pushed if they weren't so fucking jews. A watch that requires zero service except if the owner screws it up.
>>
>>56181551

Why are people surprised at this?

Do you fags only wear your steel bracelets while fine dining or something?

Every single steel bracelet i have ever owned gets scratched to shit no matter how careful I am with it.

The best way to avoid the scratches is to not wear it.

Diamond is harder than sapphire.

It's interesting, but I don't think it's ultimately going to make a significant different to a watch long term.

It's still being effected over time. And the lubrication in other parts of the watch are still wearing out as normal (or at least normal for Sinn.)

I've been researching this off and on for a while but I have had no luck-

I have a watch with a stupid case (pic related) and was wondering if there is any adapter i can get to let it accept standard watch straps. I would really prefer a one peice strap that it big enough for my wrist rather than the too small rubber strap it currently has

anyone got any ideas?

You're better off getting a wide enough strap that you can cut the ends of it like the current one, or making an adapter yourself.

Now now, in all honesty at least half the thread regard mechanical movements as a black box mystery technology that neess to be in a watch for them to permit themselves to want it, but it's not like they actually understand how they work or why one might be better than another (besides "prestige", I.e. marketing).
>>
Recommendations for a ~500€ watch that I will use daily? I'm currently using a SKX007 and I wanted something a bit smaller but still not too fancy since I will be using it when I'm hiking and so on. I'm looking at the Hamilton Khaki Field or the Jazzmaster but I'll take suggestions.
>>

>>
>>56194427
Why not wear the SKX while hiking? That's what I wear, you bash it on a tree or fall in the mud it's cool because it's tough.
>>
>>56194427
Orient Aviator perhaps? Lays nearer to €300 than €500, but something to consider none the less if you enjoy the aesthetic.

Perhaps Victorinox Infantry?
>>
>>56194471
Yeah I get what you mean, it's just that I'm getting kinda tired of it and I want something new. It will be awhile before I can buy it anyways so I have time to think it over.

>Is Victorinox a liked brand around here?
They have some decent pieces, but are nothing special by any means, some of their stuff is just a little pricey considering they're pretty basic. Their cheapest mechanical is priced at near as makes no difference €650. No where I can find is the movement listed on their website, the sites that tell us the movement (Turns out to be the good old go-to, 2824-2) but fail to tell us the grade. I am by no means an expert on identifying this stuff, so could someone, from the basis of movement decoration or any markings that may be visible, tell us the grade in pic related?

That and I kind of get the vibe that they're a brand more known for their pocket knives.

Why on Earth would you spend so much on an old watch that plain and boring. If it were say a Royalite, Bubbleback, Observatory or any combination of the three I'd say get it for 3k, but that's literally a Seiko 5.
>>
>>56195131
It should top out at around 5k-6.5k. It has the original Rolex bevel meaning its almost completely unpolished which means the owner kept it in a safe and never wore it. Sadly not wearing a Rolex will tend to cause it to have mechanical problems, and there is no service history. If there was a service history the watch could have easily caught $7k.
>>
>>56195243
Is there any point in owning an expensive watch if it's just going to look this beat up and shitty in a few decades?

Are you fucking kidding me? That Bubbleback looks great! Only thing it has is a bit of fading on the dial (I think 13 to 24 was originally red), blackened numerals and a bit of radium burn.

Also an expensive watch will last longer, since it'll likely be better designed in overall, steel cased, screwdown back, higher quality dial, better movement, non-retarded crystal/lugs, no gluing, etc.

Description from:
http://www.maisonceladon.com/the-movement.html
Says that a 21,600 vph beat rate is better for accuracy, isochronism and longevity than 28,800 vph. If that's the case then why are most Swiss watches 28,800 bph compared to the cheaper Japanese and Chinese watches which are mostly 21,600? Or is there just no validity to this claim?

>>
>>56198262
the battery change isn't even simple like other cheapo Invicta watches. They were showing this at this years Baselworld, you basically need to unscrewed the 4 locking screw for each watches. Afterward there's a gasket that you need to be aware of and the face is fully exposed so you don't want to touch that either. You have the remove the entire movement by pressing the divet and removing the 4 screw down crown. The mainwatch is easiest to change the battery for, and they should just make it so all 5 batteries are linked. However they want to make this crap unnecessarily complicated. Also good luck trying to sell an Invicta POS for $1000.

No idea why there is even an Invicta booth, they should never have been invited.

Pretty much up there with the Pelagos in terms of sheer quality. However at an affordable price. The Ocean One T 500 comes with Steinhart's proprietary SWISS MADE Soprod movement. The watch houses a domed Sapphire crystal specially pressurized to withstand 500m verified by DIN. The dial is matte black with blue accents complimented with Super Luminova blue Lume. The Bezel is ceramic and has lume applied as well protected by sapphire for maximum scratch resistance. All of this for around $500 shipped this watch is hard to beat.

Steinhart also has one of the best if not best resale value out of any watch, so buy with confidence.

why are they terrible?
is there a single legitimate reason besides elitism?
>>
>>56203496
Only Steinhart has been shilled anytime recently.
>>
>>56203569

You can get a PARNIS with a 24hour subdial for $90.

In all honesty when companies resort to fake reviews and shilling I lose all respect for them. I honestly don't know if they are good or not but the last company that I remember resorted to shilling was Invicta and that is all I need to know about these 3 companies.
>>
>>56203569
Sinn shill detected, you guys always hated Steinhart since it equally as good quality but 1/4 of the price.
>>
>>56203604
I cant find the words for how fucking stupid you are if you think any company is actually paying people to shill on 4chan.

and that's not a legitimate reason they're shit. as if that needed to be said.
>>
>>56203615
i will admit i shill for vostok even though the crystals are garbage
>>
>>56203525

Is Samun_povt someone who sells fakes?
>>
>>56203633
Refer to: >>56203638

There are legit shills here, especially in /pol/. You're just too naïve to admit this, it might even be shills. Like these small time watch companies, their exes have so much time on their hands they would go onto WUS to try to garner support for their product. Especially companies that don't do very well like Sinn.
>>
>>56203653
again, not a real answer
>>
>>56203661
people who have investment in a brand aren't paid shills you fucking retard.
>>
>>56203661
It figures you'd be from /pol/
>>

>Especially companies that don't do very well like Sinn.
Dude what? Sinn has been around since the 60's.
>>
>>56203661
>Especially companies that don't do very well like Sinn.
Confirmed retard. Neck yourself famlam.
>>
>>56203097
You should just get it over with and start tripfagging, it's obvious you want to build a reputation here.

>The Ocean One T 500 comes with Steinhart's proprietary SWISS MADE Soprod movement
You mean another ETA-2824 clone.

>The watch houses a domed Sapphire crystal specially pressurized to withstand 500m verified by DIN
Crystals with non-domed surfaces can withstand depths of 2000m, and the fucking crystal isn't "pressurized", you have no fucking clue what you're talking about, you're just saying words.

>Steinhart also has one of the best if not best resale value out of any watch, so buy with confidence.
$0.04 has been deposited into your account.
>>
>>56203649
Probably a raketa, look up 24 antartica with the Russiaville sellers i seen more than a few when i was looking for this one
>>
>>56203736
ok so what's wrong with the watch?

not that guy btw
>>
>>56203649
It's faked, by the way. Not worth more than $20.
>>
>>56203659
No, he personally collects and restores mainly Raketas.
>>
>>56203097
>Steinhart's proprietary SWISS MADE Soprod movement

You're literally making shit up. Steinhart has nothing to do with Soprod. Soprod is a movement manufacterer that's been around since 1966 and is currently owned by the Festina Group.
>>
>>56203659
No I don't think so.
Have had good service from him in the past. Even took a watch off auction for me when requested and invoiced me for it.
Haven't gotten one fake yet, bought 4 so far and received 2 so far went back and bought 2 others

Some of the steinhart stuff is OK, in the same way that some dicks OK.
But if you keep ramming it down people's throats they will probably not like you very much
>>
>>56203871
as if you pretentious cunt.
>>
im looking at Samun_povt as you suggested but fuck if he doesnt slap 100+ on anything as soon as its 24h
>>
>>56203908
Yeah, he knows what he has so he knows how to price things. You can at least know what you're getting is all original and recently serviced. You can of course buy elsewhere but it's riddled with franken watches and those with fake parts if you don't know what to look for.
>>
>>56203995
Fair enough. I ended up buying this fucking meme because it was 35$. he's got some nice watches.
>>
>>56200418
Literally an idiot.
>>
>>56200244
Okay sounds good.
>>
>>56200638
It only tells you when you have a message etc doesn't it? If so a £12 chink fitness tracker can manage that so I imagine it's fine.
