Pretty much.
I love the Amphibia, though.
I'll probably sell/trade the Citizen soon to help fund some kinda' Seiko. Really like the SARX, SARB, SARG007, and Turtle. The SBPY133 is sweet, too, but hard to find.

>>56149888
Go for the regular display. From what I've heard, the negative one is a bitch to read in harsh light. Also, the negative one just looks kinda gay.

>>56150834
Sure, they look similar, but I'd hardly call it a clone. The similarities end at the generally rectangular shape and black color. On the Fossil, there's no date indicator, the crown is grooved and tapers, the crystal and case are angled at the top and bottom, the bracelet isn't at all flush with the case, and the hands and indices are entirely different.

I already got one, don't listen to the haters. Let them spend more on Hamilton, Sinnshit or Tag. These fools can't even afford a Rolex but think their shit is so good. When Steinhart has better quality metal and movements.
>>
>>56155312
The 2824 in your Steinhart is not found in Tudor or Sinn watches.

Steinhart Ocean 1's are trading at $400-500, and cost 380 Euroes from source, not including shipping.
>>
>>56155430
That's the VAT pricing, people here in the US is exempt. And shipping is $30, it was free earlier when they updated the website. So total is like $350 for the Ocean one.

>The ETA 2824 is not found in Sinn watches
Okay I guess Sinn uses Miyota or some Hong Kong piece of shit movement which is worst. And yes the older BB uses ETA 2824. I highly doubt you know anything about watches if you think Sinn is better than Steinhart.
>>
>>56155418
>Steinhart has better quality metal and movements
They use Elabore movements, which are the polished turds of ETA's offerings.

They also use 316L stainless, by no means a bad choice, but Sinn make far better steel, they're probably the current leaders in case technology for scratch resistance and resistance to moisture ingress.
>>
>>56155455
You have no idea what you are talking about. Sinn uses the exact same Elabore movements, in their watches.
>>
>>56155452
>Okay I guess Sinn uses Miyota or some Hong Kong piece of shit movement which is worst
No, they buy in Top or Chronometre-grade ETA movements, and some of them they heavily modify.

Their Diapal line all have lubricant-free escapements, and they modify 7750's with functions like central-counting minutes, and 24-hour subdials.
>>
>>56155476
>muh civic engine is heavily modified my car is not a regular civic
This is you. ETA 2824 is still an ETA 2824.
>>
For all you poor fags... This Curren Field Watch looks slick as fuck and is less than $20 bucks. Throw on a Nato and you can't get a better deal than this being a poor fag.
>>
>>56155484
You do know that trucks use de-tuned mustang engines, right?

You know the difference between a standard ETA-2824, and one with a lubricant-free escapement kept in a non-humid environment is? About 4x the service interval, and a huge decrease in amplitude variation during those intervals.

It doesn't matter if the movements use the same mechanical systems, it's how well those systems function which matters.
>>
>>56155490
>field watch
>not pressure rated to at least 10bar

If you can't swim in it, or you can't dress formally in it, you may as well throw money down the toilet.
>>
>>56155520
I honestly don't give a fuck, everyone modifys the ETA 2824, INCLUDING STEINHART.
>>
>>56155547
In a regular pool it's held up for me, would you go diving with it no. It's literally $15 bucks on Amazon. Can't go wrong with this beater Anon, I have like 4 beaters just for this reason. It's so cheap so who gives a fuck...
>>
>>56155552
OK, what modifications do Steinhart perform, what are the modifications supposed to do, and how much to they charge for the watches with those modifications?
>>
>>56155564
Yes, you can go wrong with it. You spent time wearing it, time you could have spent wearing something nicer.

Entirely your decision, but I like to spend my time wearing watches I like. I wouldn't enjoy wearing a POS Chinese-made quartz, so it makes no sense for me to spend any amount for the privilege.

By god. Grasping for those straws now eh shill?

Let me give you some advice.
Educate yourself.

As of the moment you just seem like a shitty troll.

>316L is better than Sinn Steel
316L is the base standard for cases, nothing special about it, but it's not some melted down pepsi cans either.

>Same movements
Same range, very different in practice.
2824-2 Elaboré will manage +/-7 seconds a day average.
2824-2 Top, +/-5 seconds average a day.
Chronometer. Which says it all for it's daily accuracy, within +/-2 seconds.

The only thing that remains the same with these movements is the layout of them, they all have varying quality components resulting in such margins between grades.

>Attacking Seiko so violently
Seiko is one of, if not the best loved watch brand in the world, and that doesn't change here. They make good watches, and they mark them correctly.

>Sinn
>NUGGHH THEY'RE CHINESE WATCHES GOYS, NOT GLORIOUS GERMAN!
>WHAT'S THAT, YOU SPENT 2 SECONDS GOOGLING AND FOUND OUT THEY'RE GERMAN? FUCKING SINNSHIT SHILL
This is you.

And for the love of fucking god, stop telling people to buy a Steinhart that is nearly twice of what they're looking to spend already.
And SKX can be had for £180, an OVM will run you £315. Stop already. You're pathetic kid.
>>
>>56155552
>I honestly don't give a fuck
Then why keep going

>Steinhart modifies their ETA movements
Then why does my OVM have a date wheel, and function, yet it will never be seen because it's behind the dial.

Sup /wt/,
Im looking for a watch in the 800-900 euro pricerange. Its for my 21st birthday so I want something that's classical and which I will still be able to wear in ~20 years.

Was looking at Hamiltons today (pic related) and at some frederique constant. What would you guys recommend? Also, should I buy at a jeweller or some other place? Very inexperienced with buying watches!
>>
>>56156749
Don't buy a watch
>>
>>56156749

Hamilton, Tissot, Long ones, Tag Heuer, and Frederique Constant are all complete pleb catcher brands that exist to sucker people who know nothing about watches out of their money.

I'd pretty much avoid any watch you can find in a local jewelry store in that price range and would only consider JDM Seiko's or a watch from a micro brand.

That watch is better in my opinion, but I'm not a fan of having many complications on a watch, if you only have one decent watch.
Then I'd go for something more neutral and clean.

It's basically a Swatch Sistema 51 disposable movement in a watch you pay several hundred dollars for, you inveterate horological pleb.

This is probably frowned upon in this thread, but I bought a watch from China for 30 bucks. It arrived and I really liked. However, it behaves a bit strange.
In the first week it would lose about 30 seconds of time a day, to the point that I was going to return it. However, in the second week I tuned it to time and left it on my table for a few days and it hasn't lose or gained a single second. Is this normal? I don't think it has anything to do with being left on the desk, it lost time before when I just left it alone to test its accuracy.

I really can't think of a bad thing to say about it aside from the bezel being a bit stiff for my liking. It's a nice and heavy piece. Wonderful bracelet, brilliant clasp, beautiful domed sapphire, great lume, nice accuracy.

Their nylon straps feel a little stiff, like cardboard, compared to my Maratac nato straps, which feel like actual nylon fabric you'd want to wear.

Their leather straps seem alright, but I haven't bought leather straps from anywhere else to compare them to.

Their perlon straps use a really cheap buckle. It was staining my skin green for a while.

I wish they offered the option for brushed hardware, though. I think they only offer polished and black.

Steinhart is the only non-vintage in the world where you can buy it for $320 and resell it for $500-$700. This alone should tell you something about its quality. Once it becomes a vintage it might even sell more than some Rolex, I know for a fact it will sell for more than a Seiko/Sinn.

Well they offer two styles of buckles for their perlon straps. I got the adjustable one like in the pic. The other is your usual traditional buckle, which was fine. And actually, if we go by the pic, it looks like they've changed to a better quality adjustable buckle since I last bought from them.

I can only move the hands on my watch backwards, if I try to move them forwards the crown comes loose. What do?

Loctite thread locker. Also what watch? Was the stem replaced? It might be too short for the crown to be tightened on it.

Open the back of the watch, push the stem release look up what movement you own and how to do it, there should be a divot that you can push with your fine tweezers. Get some RED loctite on the threads. Tighten the stem to the crown. Wait for the loctite to set and you are done. Steinhart is really not shit, only ignorant people who values watches by how much they pay would call them shit.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwvnKKt-DBQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0EEHPSx-sE

Here's two of the MOST respect watch reviewers in the world. These people between them have hundreds of thousand dollars worth of watches. Yet they put their name on the line praising Steinhart.

-2824-2 Elabore, great movement one of the best. Steinhart also added in an Incabloc and Dufour Balance
-Sapphire crystal on a watch this cheap, almost virtually impossible most watch in this price range use mineral or "HARDEX"
-316L stainless steel the same used in Tudor and Rolex
-their divers are tested for 300m by DIN
-their pilots are tested for impeccable accuracy
-most Steinharts retain its value, with the majority increasing in value

No Steinhart is not shit, not by a long shot. Sinn and Seiko shills call them shit because they are scared Steinhart would put them out of business. The most people find out about Steinhart the more of a threat it is to truly shit companies like Sinn and Seiko.

Also unlike Steinhart Sinn uses a chinese made TC 2824 movement which they modify in-house. Regardless its still a chinese movement. A few years back Sinn was caught doing this with some of their watches. We don't know if they are still using Chinese made movements but I don't want to take that risk by Sinn watches.

Top grade ETA, which is the same as Tag Heuer which in all honestly doesn't mean jackshit since its not Chronometre grade.

Watches that impresses the ladies:
Hipster girls: Any vintage Calavatra style dress watch (i.e. Waltham, Vulcain, Zenith, etc. ). Moonphase is a plus.
Yuppie girls: Cartier Tank, Reverso.
Gold diggers: Royal Oak, Gold Sub, Daytona, any easily recognizable, garish, blingy watch.
Actual whores/strippers: Same as above except a lot of them can actually recognize replicas, and will also be able to ID real haute horology pieces easily.
Basic Bitches: "minimalist" watches (regardless of quality) like Movado museum.
90% of grills won't care about or recognize anything else.

You're talking about Archie right? Not that I have anything against the other fat fuck, other than the fact that he's butt buddies with TGV.

That specific Tudor has a pretty ugly font on the dial though. That chapter ring is kind of ugly too.

They jacked up the prices so much. I bought the original blue mako for < $100 when they 50% off codes on orientusa. It was rubber but I just bought a blue bond strap for it.
It broke after i dropped it so I upgraded. Also bought a random modded Seiko as a beater but I hardly use it.

it looks cheaper than the calender/moon phase complication watches that I like but that's only because it is.

to me it just doesn't look as finished as a complicated watch should in my opinion

Hours, minutes, seconds, date, month, power reserve and either the deviation or even a regulator(?)
That's my educated guess

seems like a cop-out because even a triple calender is too much for them to make cheaply. I do remember some anon was looking for the week counter complication though. A Zeppelin quartz watch also does this if he is still around and looking.

Not that i have heard.
There are a couple of other marks that make me suspicious, the picture is not high enough resolution for proper comparison to mine.

List cheap 4 hand movements....

If it was anything but a gmt I'd be more suspect.
But that's a pain in the ass to find cheap movements for.
>>
>>56166821
Not sure. His real name is Paul Pluta and Archie is supposed to be a character, but I don't know how many of the real world he brings into the Archie character. Probably a lot.

Archie is supposed to be the Filthy Frank of horology.

the last one is an equation of time indicator, it shows the difference between apparent and mean solar time. the difference between when the sun goes down according to the clock and in real time. so at the time pictured the sun goes down 10 mins later then when the watch would indicate with the hours/minutes.

Fuck, is ETA really this hard to handwind or did I fuck something up with the oiling of the mainspring or reversing wheels? Or fucked up the crown? Rotor winding seems fine though.
>>
>>56173888
Should be easy to hand wind.
Might be compressing one of the gears to the spring barrel, or the spring barrel.
Please don't try to force it, i was always warned about the crown stem breaking.
Could also be that the spring is fully wound already too, which would mean breaking the spring of over wound

Need some help /wt/. I contacted the owner of Celadon (Ben) a few months back to place a purchase for the third series Imperial. We talked about method of payment etc. and I was waiting for his response of when he'd want me to preform the transaction via PayPal. This was more than a few months back and he hasn't replied and I honestly don't know what to think.
Maybe am just looking for reassurance from another Imperial owner since I know a few people here are owners of some of the series. But did anyone else experience such long waiting times?
>>

That's another concern, that somehow the greasing of the mainspring barrel wall is not good enough, and the mainspring doesn't slip soon enough.

>Actual whores/strippers: Same as above except a lot of them can actually recognize replicas, and will also be able to ID real haute horology pieces easily.
True.

A news paper around here brought to light that some of the major customer groups for high end watches were foreign prostitutes. They use watches as an easily transportable means for taking money out of the country. On returning to their home countries they convert the watches to cash and this fuels the second hand market.

It is therefore essential that they know a good watch from a fake.

Not surprisingly this is a market the watchmakers do not talk about.

There is something very wrong in the world when the best customer service comes from strippers. In case someone misunderstands: the problem is not that strippers provide service in addition to their "service", the problem rather is that few else cares enough to give good service or care about their fellow human.

>>56167472

Why do som many diving watches have blue faces? Considering that blue-green has the longest transmission in water this would provide worse contrast to the lume than a red face, even a red lumed face.

>>56172044
Very nice. Why is it that pocket watches typically are elegant and have a lot of information yet without being busy? Wrist watch designers have much to learn.

Due to them all being hand made and precision tuned, it takes a long time for a watch to be complete. Thus their demand is exceedingly higher than supply compared to other brands. People just don't like waiting for a watch.
