I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if somebody, ANYBODY at Linux knew how to create a user friendly interface. But it takes twice as much time to get the same work done in Linux as in Windows, and that is largely due to the obscure, unintuitive interfaces.
For the love of god, could autistic programmers stop designing GUI and let actual graphical designers do that job? That'd be great.

aka, "interfaces that are different and that i'm not used to". a long time linux user could say the same thing about windows (bash scripting? sure, powershell? uhh...)
>For the love of god, could autistic programmers stop designing GUI and let actual graphical designers do that job? That'd be great.
yea, i also hate when the people who make something make that thing. if you thing you can do better, by all means do so and submit a pull request to have it implemented, until then, quit telling people who do this FOR FREE what they should and shouldn't do

Ubuntu or Debian
Use mpv for videos, ncmpcpp + mpd for music (takes a while to setup, you'll need to follow a guide)
What distro did you use? Some of the lightweight ones require you to install a package like compton to fix screen tearing

Linux on Desktop user here. Works great for me and I don't want to go back to Windows. But you're right with VLC. I couldn't even watch a video with the default settings and changed so that I can watch, but the videos look like shit. Pic related are the settings that work for me.

It can't be a hardware problem, never had such problems under Windows, googleing didn't help.

Has anyone an idea?
>>
>>56173026
This isn't the OP BTW

>>56173046
Windows is developed by paid professionals. They make sure their code just simply works on a wide variety of hardware. (as long as it's x86/64) When I install windows, it just works, and works with all my hardware. I don't have to fiddle fuck with it for days before I get a usable setup working. And when something doesn't work, They actually try to fix it, as opposed to me googling my problem and finding a dozen forum posts asking the same question, but never got any replies. That's the linux community for you. Sure, win10 isn't exactly my cup of tea, but ME sucked, Vista sucked. They made up for it later.

>>56172966
>dont accuse an OS for your incompetence

See what I mean? Nice community.

>>56173054
Those aren't the same. Saying something is broken, only to be told "worksforme" is just ridiculous.

>>56173064
Again, not OP. But I've been playing with linux off and on since the late 90's. You name it, I've probably downloaded it at one point or another.

>>56173155
Saying that my arguments are retarded is not an argument. You can't actually refute the fact that desktop linux distros are written and "maintained" by reddit atheists, and the overall community is shit. Linux nerds actually get their grandmothers running ubuntu and start dumping her calls to voicemail when she has problems.

Stop forking LINUX! I want to love it so bad, but it sucks so much. Yall mother fuckers need to drop all the forks and consolidate into one perfect master distro, THEN branch off.

I fucking hate apple, but I would recommend OSX over linux for someone who hates windows.

It's about effort. It's about code running well not only on your machine, but running well on as many machines as possible. When some neckbeard releases some code, calls it official to the distro, does not test it, then forgets the code exists, and then when someone has a problem, they are told either "worksforme" or is ignored, that's a serious fucking problem.

If it wasn't for servers, linux would be dead because of it's shitty "community".

Are you with me? Should I break out the crayons?
>>
>>56173432
i understand what you're saying
so did you file a bug report? no? then how are they supposed to fix your problem, when they don't know about it?
perhaps they have fixed the problem, and your particular configuration isn't ideal for your particular hardware (there's a lot of configuration+hardware combinations!)

and it's not like windows is free of problems, even despite the much better situation it has (manufacturers make windows drivers for their hardware far more often then they do linux drivers)

We aren't talking about a single problem. We are talking about multiple unsolvable problems per install since the late 90's. We are talking about people who REFUSE to support their code, we are talking about communities that say "worksforme, fuck off" or ignores people altogether.

Look, if you guys wanna have a DIY OS, and tinker with it and circle jerk each other to high heaven, I get that. I understand it. But when people misrepresent linux to get more people away from windows, that just burns my cookies. It's been going on for years and I'm sick of it. Some people want to actually use their computers and take the OS for granted, and that's fine too. Just keep your nose at the same altitude as everyone else.

Just as a side note, I come across instances where driver issues just stop certain hardware from working:
>scanner just randomly stopped working correctly, would work sometimes, make weird noises most of the time
>probably a driver issue after update, no fix for months
>my family asks me to try scanning some documents with my laptop
>downloaded software to scan from the repository, plugged the thing in clicked scan

Another time my sister struggled to get the graphic tablet driver installed, tried it with my laptop, plug&play without problem, pressure sensing in inkscape worked beautifully.

So as far as I am concerned, windows is NOT the "works perfect with every hardware" solution people think it is.

I don't even know which distro would let untested code in their official repos. Can you specify what kind of shit distro you used and experienced those problems with?

Also, Linux supports way more hardware than Windows. The one thing where Windows has still the edge is driver support by hardware developers for extension cards. (But those are not essentially to run the OS and are not supported by the Windows OS itself either)

Because freetards have no concept of usability or user friendliness.
Actually all the Unix culture suffers from that, but since Unix has won the market/mindshare of programmers very few people know that a better world was possible.
Unix/Linux people are making computers more difficult than it needs to be because they are autistic manchildren.

I'll agree that MPV although a superb player is much to complicated or involved in setting up. I've also thought at times that I wouldn't need to install things like the K-lite codec pack by now either on Windows. It's been what almost twenty years and I still need to add this? VLC of course negates most of that and it's why it's so good for most people on either OS.

if you put aside the sightly lower quality on vlc, EVERYTHING, yes EVERYTHING is way better than other video players.

>When some neckbeard releases some code, calls it official to the distro, does not test it, then forgets the code exists
this happens all the time in corporate and FOSS software generally has higher quality code than proprietary software.

As if you knew how to change anything when you were a kid/opened a video player the first time in your life. It's basically the same. Here's a short story;
>you use a pc for the first time in your life
>it says "Windows" while it's booting
>don't know how to do shit in it except click on stuff
>break things many times, Google or ask people for help
>in a few years you learn how to use a pc and all the basics
>5-10 years later you try to switch to Linux
>it doesn't work because it's "too difficult" to use and you're too lazy to google
>you just call it quits and say linux is for no life nerds because you're incapable of spending some time learning how to use a new OS, even though you didn't even know how to use Windows when you first had it
You can't expect every single piece of software to be the same, you can't expect to know how to use everything out of the box, you can't say some software sucks just because you're too incompetent to learn how to use it. In the end nobody is forcing you to use anything you don't like. Everyone has preferences.

been using it for a long time.

got a gpu for next to nothing, tried the pci passthrough method to get 95% windows native performance on gaming.

yeah turns out it is bullshit.

nVidia crashes their driver on purpose cause fuck you and AMD driver crashes in the faster q36 chipset configurations cause lol AMD.

so it works great if you have a dogshit old gpu, but I can already play 10 year old games fine in wine.

Question are you a fucking retard?

Because i can tell you right now if i can figure linux out you must be an idiot.

because ive used windows my entire life but decided i wanted more privacy so i started dual booting win10 for games and opensuse with kde for all my normal computer needs.

I dont know jack shit about coding yet i was able to use terminal to enable vlc and amd gpu drivers and install all the proper codecs all thanks to the power of using FUCKING GOOGLE

hell my only complaint is the lack of a spotify app

The only reason I stuck with GNU/Linux was after trying all the flavour of the month distros, I installed Ubuntu and didn't hesitate for a second in installing non-free drivers/firmwares/anything else. Now it was a working productive OS with a wealth of information available online to learn about Linux. Any distribution after that was a lot easier to manage

I.e. install Ubuntu
