Need help deciding a case for an ITX build:

Coolermaster N200, cheap, fits both mATX and mITX, but apparently has a bunch of noise problems.

Define Nano S, $25 more expensive, but is more premium with noise dampeners on each side

Thermaltake V1, proper ITX case, cheap, but a nightmare to cable manage. Specs says it may not fit my GPU (287mm vs 285mm maximum allocated space)
>>

helping a friend come up with a build, trying to keep it in the $1200 USD range, any input on this build? Reviews of all the parts seem decent.
He's expressed that he isn't really interested in overclocking as of right now, so would switching to an i5-6500 be a good idea? I'm opposed to it because of the potential for overclocking in the future when his components become less relevant.

Hey guys. I haven't upgraded my PC in a long time and I need some help figuring out what I should get.
[email protected]
8gb Ram
z77 extreme 4 mother board
gtx 660
60gb SSD and a 1.5tb harddrive
i don't know where to even start with a mother board. What differences are there in motherboards? other than having less or more usb's and other stuff.. sorry idk much about motherboards.
>>
>>56150820
Thank you very much. I could now understand your wise wizard wisdom. I'm searching for reviews, and I discovered I can discover even the brand of the capacitors used on the motherboards. This is great!
>>
Looking for a new case I can get the Define R4 for a pretty good price, currently two thirds of the price of a r5, is the there any reason to pony up the extra cash for the r5 instead?
>>
>>56160648
either do your research, or go with whatever logicalincrements suggests for your price range
>>
I bought a gigabyte hm110-a i3 6100 with 8gb ddr4 last night and I think the mobo is DOA I just want confirmation. When trying to boot an OS from a HDD or usb (including win 8 7 10 and arch) it will get past the bios screen and then shortly after reboot it's self. The installation media seems to be stable if I don't have a hard drive connected but both hard drives I have tested work fine and the psu works fine in another build.
>>
>>56159635
Check out ones by Silverstone. Slimmer ones >>>> boxy ones imo.

>>56160648
You should be fine with just a better video card and a bigger SSD.

Thread is slow today, so let's try a challenge. Find me the best gaming PC with a hard limit of 400 USD. It should be able to play everything on at least medium settings. Used and refurbished parts are fine as long as you give a source. No housefire power supplies either.

I would like to buy front case fans for my bitfenix nova, I believe these would need to have high static pressure because of the entry imposed by the front panel, any recommendations below 30dB?
Budget is not really a concern, also these should be 120mm fans.

i have gone through 3 mobos this month, i tried putting a Hyper t4 on my 1150 i7 4790k, didn't realize the t4 box said it's only compatible with 1151. but i didn't notice that until i bought a new mobo and tried again so i killed 2. I know it was dead mobos cause i tested another cpu on both of them and still no post, tried all the basic troubleshooting steps(removing all but 1 stick of ram and cpu). so anyway i went and grabbed a new mobo, new cooler (corsair h55) which is compatible and new psu. but this time the pc starts for a second and restarts over and over with no post. can't figure out wtf is wrong with me but i can't seem to build a pc anymore i guess. cursed?

So i need help.
I fell for the APU meme due to looking for a good AMD chipset motherboard that supported PCie 3.0 and i learned that the only compatible motherboards are APU orientated motherboards; so i went and bought myself a fairly decent FM2+ motherboard and a cheepo APU to see what it would be like.
After reviewing this new APU vs my current (Old) CPU, i had learned that the APU ranked better. My computer just feels slower now, Even though it runs at 3.7 Ghz as compared to my old 3.5 Ghz, Although its a 2 core vs a 6 core.
>Tl;Dr, Should i just get the latest APU?
>>
>>56165676

What's the difference in performance, exactly?

On paper it's amd with more GHz and actual cores and Intel with hyperthreading and less power and, I assume, heat due to less power needed.

If there's more I'd be interested to read it.

Because Intel didn't get slapped hard enough for all the bullshit that they pulled. Not saying AMD hasn't done some shit, but if they have then they're absolutely terrible at playing dirty.

Intel's compiler didn't take advantage of the latest instruction sets for non-Intel CPUs, making them run programs compiled with their compiler much slower:
http://www.agner.org/optimize/blog/read.php?i=49

Intel paid computer makers to exclusively use their CPUs:
http://archive.fortune.com/magazines/fortune/fortune_archive/2006/08/21/8383598/index.htm

Oh, and they cheated on benchmarks years ago:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/10/31/fifteen_whole_dollars_on_offer_for_cranky_pentiums_4_buyers/

This probably isn't the best thread to discuss all of this though.

Motherboard looks a bit too expensive. There's some $40 cheaper that still have the z170 chipset and SLI support.
Get 2x8gb of ram so it runs as dual-channel.
Case seems stupidly expensive.
Power supply is overkill unless you're going for SLI.
SLI will always be less efficient than a single card.
>>
Any reviews about ADATA SP550?
>>
>>56171031
Really expensive case, like retards level of expensive.
Get a 650w PSU unless you will SLI, which you shouldn't.
Get a GA-Z170X-UD5.

Pretty sure my motherboard shit the bed (tested RAM, SSD, PSU on other computer)

The RMA process is hilariously bad for Asrock so I'm thinking about just taking the L on this one. Would this be an alright replacement? Processor is Intel i5 4690k.

Previous mobo was an Asrock Z97 Pro3. Didn't even last 2 years, so never using one of their products again.
>>
>>56171950
I should also note that I'm an autist and despite there being higher rated mobos, I chose this because it is black and blue like the rest of my pc. So no red mobos pls

Can anyone recommend a mini-itx case with the window on the top or opposite side as normal?
I want to get a little secondary gaming/video wall PC, but I want to put it against the wall and have the back/exhaust pointed at the door.

>>
>>56171813
Go with the i5 6500. The $15usd isn't worth the clock speed drop. Conversely, the i5 6600 isn't worth the price increase.

If you want to reduce price, Get a crucial MX 300 ssd instead, find a cheaper case, a cheaper version of the Gtx 1060. Clock speed on the 1060 doesn't matter because of gpu boost 3.0

Generally when people talk about the GTX 1060, are they referring to the 6 GB version if not specified? From what I read, the 3 GB version was released later and many people think it should have been named differently. In the picture for example, are they referring to the 6 GB version? Also, if I had a 760 (it broke) and I'm looking to upgrade to the current generation, is it the 6 GB version that I should be looking at?
>>
>>56173106
Yup its all 6GB version
I haven't seen one 3GB version review to this date, there probably is some but i can't find them for life of me.
>>
>>56173149
Do you think this is a sign to stay away from the 3 GB version? I mean, I've only looked into the 6 GB version anyway (since I guess that's what everyone was talking about), but should I even look into the 3 GB version at all?

(And especially if I'm looking for a 760 replacement, I assume the 6 GB version would be the real equivalent in the current generation.)

>>
>>56172991
If you can find a 480 For $200-$215 then sure, go ahead buy it. It's a great card. Where the fuck is it in stock without the shitty ass reference cooler though?
I'm annoyed that the 4gb version is hard to find too, because no way does a 1080p game ever use 4gb vram.

The next best thing in the price range is the 1060 and I don't think that's even up for debate. Maybe if you find a nice r9390 for cheaper then get that instead.
It's nice being able to put the 1060 with a 550w power supply though. I wouldn't pair 390 with a 650w or under.
>>
I'm going to build my first computer, it has a i5 6500 + stock Intel cooler + EVGA GTX 1060 non OC + Seasonic S12II 80+ Bronze 520W (bottom intake fan). I don't mean to overclock any component. My case comes with two stock fans (one intake fan in the front, one outtake fan in the rear) and supports up to 5 fans, then I'd like to add one more fan (Arctic F12 PWM PST, so I can attach a fan to it, since my mobo only has 2 fan headers). Where should I put it in order to have better cooling? Shall I use it as outtake fan on the top or as intake fan on the front or as intake fan on the side?
>>
>>56160049
Yeah, get the i5-6500. Spend the money on faster RAM

>>56160648
As the other poster said, just get a bigger SSD and a new graphics card. 4GB RX 470 or 3GB GTX 1060

>>56163468
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Gaming-Desktop-Core-i5-2400-3-1Ghz-Win-10-8GB-1TB-GeForce-GTX-750-Ti-/262494006362?hash=item3d1ddcac5a:g:2CUAAOSwnNBXaqc-
>>
>>56167875
I'd save for a 470.

>>56173202
The 3GB 1060 will be fine.

>>56173746
Overclocking the 1060 = free performance
>>
>>56174400
Doesn't that mean that I will get worse performance than what all the benchmarks mention? I'm not just looking for something that can replace the 760, I want something that's about as good with current standards as the 760 was when it came out.
>>
>>56174400
> overclocking 1060
You still haven't replied to my question
>>
>>56173746
2 intakes 1 exhaust. Dustproof, good enough cooling. That card runs 65c max.
>>
>>56174786
Thank you for replying. Since my PSU has a bottom intake fan I thought that balancing intake and outtake fans was the best solution, which was the reason why I was more oriented to the outtake top fan. The problem with my case is that it doesn't have a fron filter (case is Cooler Master N200). Would two intake fans in the front be collecting too mich dust?
>>
>>56174870
You have parts with naturally low thermals. Its really not going to matter much.
>>
>>56174944
Ok thank you.
>>
I'm trying to come up with my first build this is what I have so far:

NZXT S340
RX480
AMD SSD
PSU Seasonic S12-II
Cooler Master Hyper 212
MSIZ170 Gaming Pro Carbon
HyperX 2x4GB 2400MHZ

The motherboard costs 160€ with the RAM included, is this a good deal or should I get a cheaper mb and ram combo? Need the MB to be able to OC, any recs?

>>
>>56175911
The Dominator Ram is fine but you have to unlock it on the BIOS first, it's advertised as 3000 mghz but it's actually like 2400 (don't remember exactly and too lazy to fact-check) is not the best money can buy but some like it for Aesthetics
>>
>>56175470
>automatic oc thing sounds super neat
No. Automatic OC almost always overvolts your shit way beyond what is required. It's unavoidable, there's no way to determine stability other than extended use/stress testing, so the automatic OC shit throws shitloads of voltage at your CPU at very low/conservative OCs in order to make sure that most CPUs will be able to handle those settings.

Just OC by hand.
>>
>>56175447
Pretty fuckin good list honesty. Remember, s340 has only 2 exhaust fans. Might want to pick up 1 or 2 cheapy 120mm fans.

>>

>>
>>56176936

>>
>>56179871
Yes, unless you mean to overclock the CPU, but i5 6500 isn't designed for that purpose anyways.
>>
>>56179050
Try it opinions differ most say Sandy bridge is fine
>There is always a bottleneck somewhere or your framerates would be infinitely high. A better question to ask is, "Does my 2700K allow me to get high enough framerates in games?"

>Upgrading your video card will let you run at higher graphical settings with the same framerates, but ultimately your CPU is what determines how high your FPS can go regardless of what GPU you have.

Buy test compare and decide wether a upgrade is worth or not.
>>
>>56172621
Thank you!
The CPU upgrade costs more like $30 here though..still worth it?
Also the Crucial is only $10 cheaper here though it is 275GB instead of 250. Is it just as reliable as the Samsung?
>>
>>56180554
I figure that the CPU works fine for now, I can get it to 5.2 on air and it is stable. Later down the line I can get a new mobo, cpu and ram I thought.
