If you could have any commercially available 3D printer for free, which would you choose?

Why is 3D printing so underappreciated?
>>56102464
Because this is the GPU shilling board.
>>56101150
check the stock chart for 3dsystems
htat's all you need to know about 3d printing.
i'm glad the fad died
>>56102464
Because people expected that they could just print whatever the hell they wanted at the push of a button, like with replicators in Star Trek.
Turned out that the printers were a bit shit with their printing quality and most importantly, making and tweaking 3D models takes some serious effort.
So the general population quickly lost interest and dropped the whole thing.

It's a hobbyist thing at best

Looked ok until I zoomed out to 5 year view. Surely they just lost market share to other companies?
Pizza Printer for the win.

Seems like they have it figured out, in terms of print quality:

You'll be better of in >>>/diy/ 3d printing general.
That being said, I only used a few Makerbots and Zortrax printers. I feel like the Zortrax are more consistent in terms of quality but both fuck up large prints occasionally.
I used a FormLabs SLA printer as well, but it's a bit messier and not worth it for larger prints.

thx for the link.
I'll look into Zortrax.

You also gotta keep in mind it's very hard to justify buying a $1000+ machine unless you're making a business that's going to sell a mass production of stuff.
I always knew the 3D Printer maker dreams of having one in every house was just silly. Not when Amazon and Walmart sell every tool you need in life for a pittance.
>>56102464
because it's a meme
>>56102744
can it print its own memes?
>>56101150
The $200k one from HP.
No, Millhouse.
You still can't be a meme.
>>56102464
If anything, it's over appreciated.
The best one.
>>56102610
WEWLAD That is some science fiction shit, right there
>>56103537
Yeah, bretty cool.
>>56101150
The glass printing one.
>>56102610
Let me tell you about the problems of CLIP.
-Teflon AF (the material in their transparent window) costs $2,750.00 per 25gram package.
-The Teflon AF window degrades and needs to be replaced after ~ 100 prints.
-The fast/layerless printing only works for geometrys with lots of gaps. If you want something solid it's as slow as conventional SLA machines.
>>56102464
because rapid 3d prototyping is nothing new, and only became a thing because the patent expired so a bunch of memers 3d printed their own 3d printers and made money off of idiots.
>>56102844
Milhouse is not a meme.
>>56102464
because it is an expensive hobby, unlike maths, programming and shit.
>>56102610
what the fuck, even a mini tower eiffel. takes so long to build though.
>>56107134
This, it's too expensive and "too much learning" for the average household still. Back to the op if we are talking ANY then I would get one of this ridiculously huge metal extruder ones https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=phFsKU1BDOM
I got a delta to start, but I'd recommend a Cartesian printer as a starter because the firmware tuning for delta's is difficult due to no optimization and the fact that deltas have the additional variable of "flatness" of the build area that you have to compensate for. Doing some fine tuning at the moment, but I'm making progress.
