Noted. I guess I need to clarify, this is for a ~£850 build for student halls. It should be under insurance, just I thought a full tower would be less appealing than say, a laptop to grab because it's a pain to take.

Does anyone have experience with desktops at university?

Also I thought if I avoided rice lights it'd be quite a subtle build.

Problem: My Xperia Z1 Compact won't connect to my home Wifi / Wlan.

Situation: It's been working fine this whole time, like weeks and months on end. I went out to go grocery shopping. Came back home. My phone can't connect to the Wifi / Wlan. However, it works on my computer.

What I tried:
>turned wifi off and on
>turned phone off and on
>turned router off and on
Nothing worked.

Why did it randomly decide to mess up, and only on my phone specifically?

People volunteer for it. It's called being an exit node. You can also volunteer to be an entry node or a middle node with much less risk because they don't get pinned with all the illegal shit. You decide which roles you play.

You come out wherever there is a volunteer exit node. Some organizations dedicate servers to it, some are done by home users. It's not evenly distributed. I wouldn't expect exit nodes to exist inside china, and it's probably harder to find an ISP willing to put up with it in the US.

>>
>>56096691
Yeah it's partly slow because there's a limited amount of bandwidth to go around and tards like to use it for unnecessary shit like torrenting. But also you are bouncing your connection off of 3 semi randomly chosen extra computers on the way to to it's destination. That's not how you maximize speed.

>>
>>56096840
If there were more volunteers TOTAL, and their connections were fast and reliable, then that could have an impact. But they wouldn't necessarily try to pair you with nodes on your own continent if they could. The point is anonymity at all costs. The network really isn't designed to give a shit about speed.

What's the simplest way to tell my torrent client to only download a select few files from a torrent added via magnet link? If I add the torrent in paused state, I don't have a list of files so I can't choose which ones to download. If I start downloading and then pause, a lot of small files are downloaded before I can pause that I have to manually delete AND I have to manually mark the files I don't want to not download which is annoying.

I'm using Deluge 1.3.6 in Ubuntu right now.

Should I run the Private Internet Access app or Windows VPN app? In the PIA, at least I have the ability to configure the encryption, authentication and handshake protocols..
With the PIA app enabled:
DNS leak prevention and ipv6 leak prevention are turned on. I turned the data authentication protocols OFF because I am not afraid of active attackers so much as I am afraid of passive loggers / security. My handshake is RSA-2048 and encryption is AES-128bit.

What is the onboard Windows 10 VPN app configured to use? Why do all dns leak testing websites fail to load while i'm on VPN - either connection method or on tor (using only socks5 proxy)? thank you
>>
>>56098352
Thats better than nothing but a lot of sites don't use HTTPS at all, so if anyone wanted to sniff the traffic it would be trivial. If you want better protection get a VPN.

Ok here comes Mr Retard. I'm trying to update my motherboard (or flash it?) because of slow boot time.
I found the model but can't find the right driver.

What i know about the model is that :

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8H67 Rev X.0x
Serial number (motherboard): MF70BAG03906015
BIOS Identifier: 63-0100-000001-00101111-101111-Chipset
SKU Number: SKU
Bios manufacturer: American Megatrends Inc.
Bios version: 3801
Date: 9/12/2013

Can anyone help me find the right driver? There's a ton of P8H67 models it seems and I don't see which one it is.

Around the same time, but I have it set to not update. I downloaded a legacy driver from nVidia and that's when I started getting crashes. Couldn't install the anniversary update. Problem is that these crashes are happening more and more frequently even after I wiped everything and installed a fresh copy of Windows 8 (which had many crashes before it installed successfully). Can't even upgrade back to Windows 10 or install Windows 8 updates successfully without running into the BSOD errors I mentioned. I thought maybe it was nVidia's fault, but maybe the RAM/mobo was already bad to begin with and I didn't notice.

Also, my mobo drivers only work on Windows 8.1 + 10, so Windows 7 is also out of the question.

So, as I have a shitload of spare parts lying around, I've decided I'd build a dedicated audio rig. that said, would a socket 1150 i7 or an FX-8350 be better for the task? I've already got the 8350+mobo (ASRock 990fx, but the 1150 board Gigabyte G1 Sniper Z97) has a Headphone amp already built in (will need to buy a heatsink either way), but I'm not sure if DAWs benefit at all from having a shitload of cores vs. better single threaded performance. in short imagine A = 2 B = 3 C = 4 and so on and so on until Y = 26 and Z = 1
Your secret key is 1 which offsets the numbers so if someone thought the secret number was 1 and they saw a string of numbers saying
728
They would think it means GBH which means nothing but garbage
But you know your secret key and when applied makes 7 = F, 2 = A, and 8 = G spelling out FAG

So I just bought a new laptop today, it's an MSI GE62 Apache pro. I'm trying to play WoW and its only getting ~20fps on medium (5/10) settings, which cannot possibly be how it is supposed to perform. It has an i7, 16gb of ram, and a 970m. I think it is running off of the motherboard integrated GPU and for some reason ignoring the 970. However, when I run HWmonitor, it's showing 84% utilization on the 970. But it strikes me as completely ridiculous that a 970m is only getting 20fps on medium settings, even if it is a mobile card.

The battle.net launcher threw up a warning earlier saying I needed to upgrade my GPU driver or else the games wouldn't run properly (it listed the integrated card), but I haven't gotten that warning again. I've tried right clicking the .exe and telling it to run with the 970. Also went into the Nvidia control panel and told it to launch WoW with the 970, but I still get the same results. No idea what's going on. Any ideas?

Can someone please give me a simple explanation of why Intel processors are considered better than AMD? Most AMD processors have equivalent speeds and have more cores than Intel CPUs. Shouldn't they have better performance then?
>>
>>56104807
VRAM size aint everything.

GPU and memory clock speeds are a thing too.
Get a GTX 1060 or a RX 480 to justify the upgrade.

From R9 380 to RX 370 is not worth it.
>>
>>56105210
>equivalent speeds
Modern Intel processors do more work per clock cycle than modern AMD processors.

>moar coars
That's a big advantage if you use software that takes advantage of them. Games generally have trouble using more than two to four, though.
>>
>>56105210
AMD has really shitty single core performance if you compare it to intel CPUs.
In order to compete they add more cores but programs only use 1-4 cores leaving the others unused.
Or add a powerful IGPU on them (APUs)

Clockspeeds aint everything.

Also intel CPUs are far more efficient
See 2w Atoms against 9W E series, and the atom shits on the AMD E CPUs and runs around them multiple times.

Unless you are using something that fully uses every core, Intel is superior.

Less Strong cores>Multiple weak cores.
>>
>>56105210
Clock rate is not a valid way to compare CPUs

this. i'll offer an argument for seedboxes mostly geared at people who don't know which one is better (but if the circumstances in this post don't seem relevant to you, then maybe a vpn would be better).

keep in mind that a VPN is just another hop for you to make while torrenting (if albeit an effective one at obscuring you from copyright complainants). a seedbox actually puts the traffic on another machine off-site. if you were running your computer 24/7 to seed (which would be crazy, but who knows), then a seedbox solves that problem whereas a vpn doesn't.

more compellingly, a VPN doesn't solve the upload speed problem (namely, that most internet service offers you reasonably good download speeds but relatively poor upload speeds). if anything, VPNs tend to make it worse. seedboxes completely solve that problem by being roughly as fast as you're willing to pay (usually a much, much lower rate than if you were paying for comparable service to your home).

the only downside, such as it is, is that you need to sync your torrents from the seedbox to your machine, but that can be accomplished by running a simple "while true" script, and the effect on your own network traffic is generally less noticeable than whatever corresponding torrenting you might have been doing. roughly the same amount of down traffic, but none of the up traffic.

dumbphones are okay if your main concern is simplicity + high battery (assuming the dumbphone has high battery life)

But chances are galaxy s2 is still fine for you. You just dont know how to root it and configure it. Learn that and save yourself the trouble.

What's your preferred mail service for Android ? I've used outlook but the number of different services it support is low although the app was very easy and pleasant to use. Now I've been using K-9 for a month, it support very different emails accounts even the one for my university but it's difficult to setup and sometimes I get errors when sending emails on some accounts probably because I configured it wrong on some part, also the app is not very appealing.
So what's your recommendation?

I was thinking more of a different site I could go to, if that exists, but it's great to have these as an option too
I know nothing about VPNs and what have you so I'm just wondering how safe is it?
Could I have downloaded that same file that got me a copyright notice from piratebay, and not gotten the notice were I to have VPN?
I need to be extremely vigilant because they only give you one or two notices before they hit you with the fine

not them, but assuming you're using it for all traffic, yes.

I have it rooted with android 6.0
But battery life is just shit and I hate browsing the web on smartphone.

What are the better brands for laptops? I bought a dell laptop awhile ago so my mom could watch some of her dramas on streaming sites. It was only 350 dollars so I knew it wouldn't handle hard things but it's so fucking slow and freezes up constantly just streaming a youtube video
>>
>>56106243
You can start climbing the pyramid and maybe you could have a BTN account in 6-12 months.

VPNs are very safe when configured properly.

You think browsing web on dumbphone is good?

If battery is issue, you can get a new battery. If the issue is you want a new fresh face, then just do that instead. People have psychological issues with old stuff and sometimes want fresh start to feel better, even if that fresh start is just the same thing.

Buy SSD. Do reinstall on SSD.

Fixed the "slow" part. Aka fragmented hard drive + tons of malware/startup programs.

Any site you can find can be found by others. That's by design. You can stay one step ahead of these guys, but you'll need to keep moving non-stop. And it's basically making bets on the latest new tracker that's got a combination of obscurity and popularity, which is an impossible mix.

The easiest thing to do is to pay for a VPN or a seedbox (depends on what you want: a VPN is good if you want to do browsing from another place (e.g. watch Netflix while appearing to be in the UK, giving you access to shows the US doesn't have access to - or vice versa); meanwhile, a seedbox is good if you don't want to (or can't) seed very quickly/for very long).

In both cases, your traffic should be sufficiently obscured from organizations that would send C&D notifications (but it's worth bearing in mind that the seedbox or VPN provider will still get those letters - they just won't care (you'll have looked for services that make this clear) and you'll be able to ignore them or deal with them without any fear of escalation).

void CollisionDetect(Agent Object1, Agent Object2)

float dummy1 = (TotalX * TotalX);
float dummy2 = (TotalY * TotalY);

Depends on many different factors.

>CPU
>Ownership time (in years)
>Cost
>Games to play

When choosing either, you'd generally want a good quadcore CPU+. That means Intel CPU. AMD CPU suffers from poor single core therefore AMD gpu will suffer more on AMD CPU.

If you intend to own this card for more than 2+ years, then you'll most likely want to buy the RX480 simply because GCN cards are meant to be good general card that will age well. Not just in architecture, but also in API usage change as well.

If cost is your concern then RX480 would more likely be cheaper.

And finally depending on the games you want to play, you'd want to consider which one to buy. You'd also want to consider future possibilities as you'll be keeping this GPU for more than 1 year atleast.

In short, if you have a strong CPU and want to keep this card for more than 2+ years, then get RX480.

If you have a weak CPU + only care about keeping this card for <2 years, then get the 1060.

I'm looking for a better solution for my mouse cable problem. I used to hook it up to my lamp, but unless I want to buy a USB patch cable, the mouse cable wouldn't reach my computer. Right now I'm using this stack of boxes I got from the post office, but it takes up a lot more space than it needs to.

I'm upgrading from a 2009 rig (i5 750, 5770) and I intend to keep this one for 7 years or so.

I'm going to get an i5 6500 with a 1900 x 1200 monitor.

The 1060 is £23 more than a 4GB 480 and £12 more than a 8GB 480, which is a drop in the bucket.

dear /g/
My retarded father connected my tp-link WR1043N to an 24V adapter instead of the original 12V tplink one (which is visibly of a different shape and has a big TP-LINK written all over it). Needless to say it is fucked, but on warranty. My question is, should its power input be just fucked or he accidentaly the whole router?

OK, a retarded question for real. Trying to find a way to boot specific pdf file on android tablet without possibilities for users to turn it off, or open any other files.
Already tried loads of kiosk apps and locks without finding anything useful.
Using Lenovo A7600-H with a Android 4.4.2.
I know it's possible to pin file to screen locker on nexus phones in developer mode, but I can't possibly get it to work on this tablet. Making pdf into image files also works if only it helps in any way. Any ideas, someone?

You mean a private tracker. There's a thread on here entirely dedicated to that. >>56098337

They are less likely to get you a letter which is why a lot of services only allow private ones, butt it's not a guarantee.

>this sounds hella illegal, how the hell do the providers get away with that?

Different ways. There's all sorts of legally ambiguous ways to pull it off. Mostly they set up servers in countries that don't care as much.

>how about these private "members only" sites, I heard those were safe but I don't know of any let alone how to get a membership considering I don't know anyone who uses any
see the /ptg/, but the notion that they're safe is at best a false illusion. if you get in, consider that *you* got in. what did you say or do that really, definitely guaranteed that you weren't working for the MPAA or whomever?

it's much less likely, i grant you, but if they wanted to get into private trackers just to identify all the members and spam C&Ds to their corresponding IP addresses, that wouldn't be a total waste of time for them. based on what i see on /g/, it seems like the false belief that private trackers are inherently immune to that kind of thing is really rampant, making them easy targets.

>sounds hella illegal
3 ways:
1) they operate in a place that makes escalating (legally) really frustrating for copyright holders
2) they operate in a place that outright doesn't give a shit (not many of these places on paper, but sometimes the legal system is just such a mess that the chances of a copyright complaint going anywhere are *effectively* nil)
3) in my seedbox's case, they respond promptly, but only to the extent that they're absolutely required to. they don't disclose my name or other info, and they ask me to remove the infringing material within 24 hours. beyond that, they don't give a shit.

even the third option suffices to grant them DMCA safe harbor protection in the US, which would arguably be the hardest constraint to satisfy. the simple fact is that a lot of ISPs find it cheaper to sweep out recurrent offenders entirely, because their legal/technological infrastructure isn't designed to field lots of DMCA complaints. this leaves space for a market to emerge and thrive (a market for seedboxes and VPNs just for torrenting), but they're satisfied to leave that money on the table

Once again I know nothing about anything but I don't think that private trackers are inherently immune, it's more they just don't happen to be targeted by copyright holders
that's the feeling i get anyway

>they ask me to remove the infringing material within 24 hours
is this just a courtesy call?
no one will actually know if you removed it or not right?

that last paragraph is very interesting too
I forgot how the procedure goes, if you get enough c&d's, do they just disconnect your service or can you get fined?

I have the latest (stable) firefox version and from what I've read it has the new e10 thingy that separates the firefox UI from the actual websites in its own process, making it so it doesn't crash when a site fucks up, but I don't see any perfomance changed, the UI is as slow as when you try to load the archive from /v/, why is that?
>>

What I'm saying is when I visit a shitty site with a script that slows down the page a lot, the ui is also slowed down. Isn't that what e10 is supposed to do? Not to make the ui get slowed down by the sites? Or I'm just stupid?
