well the HHKB is definitely the superior meme

do you like topre or mx
filcos come in red brown blue and black
i don't think they see enough of a demand for clears
>>
>>56092702
Yeah I know what switches they have an I have like 5 fucking keyboards but I need a new one and this time it's going to be a meme. So which meme should I get, never tried topre, willing to try though, mx clears and blues are my favorite switches thus far in my money wasting career.

it's something new

where can I buy keycaps and what kind

my old keyboard isn't working anymore and I'm used to MX blacks, I was originally looking for clears on a ducky shine 5 or 6 but I'm pulling the trigger on a topre typeheaven which is the only semi-serious keyboard currently available right now

the board is the same as the higher end realforce right, but the keycaps are the cheaper ABS ones, I'd really like to know what to buy to replace them because this is for some serious usage, I type way above 200wpm (thx to piano) and I'm starting to get into programming. Thanks anon

Because I'm not an accountant, and don't need an attached numpad taking up space.
Plus TKLs are supreme for hand placement when using kb+mouse controls

The Black ones are almost identical to Filcos tho

If you're not an accountant, you better be one instead of hiring someone to do the counting for you.

funfact 4chan originally had two boards, anime and (anime) random

mech keyboards aren't a meme because they're interfaces between physical actuation and digital registration, in a sense it's a buffer where a mechanical key can negotiate the force of the intended movement and the negotiation of the action towards a digital realm. anything which is an interface is a fair investment; I'll take the example of ground and body, basically gravity, interfaces as shoes, tires, beds that negotiate the interaction between our physical body and a gravitational force in this instance, smoothen out the edge to integrate as seamlessly as possible the fusion of worlds. why post such an obvious troll question on this daily thread? don't mind answering it though, not like my post is gospel

>>56094943

fair enough, keyboards are truly underrated and relegated. Whenever you take languages or vocabulary, you have intonation or accentuation that serve some nuance purpose to give color in communication, I'm just drawing this parallel with the beauty of keyboards that still don't relay a depth of sensible communication instead of a hard coded one dimensional binary one, it's very basic yet profound at the same time. Especially now that we're entering the realm of big data and the internet of things where deep intelligence plays a role, the interface of the user is still limited... When you consider movement and the translation of data towards human concepts of logic and application, such an instrument serves too many purposes and usages as a standard when in fact it's really a great interface in every sense

I can't really find any blacks and I want to try tactile keys so I'm going with browns. I was just asking if a keyboard like poker II was a better alternative but I think I'm going with the V60 after seeing your sexy keyboard. Where did you get those keycaps BTW?
>>
>>56097457
bro Browns aren't tactile in the way you think they are
they're closer to linear than anything else
the common explanation is reds with dirt in them
ps those are just white blanks you can get gateron blanks for like $30-40 on mechanicalkeyboards.com

I don't understand why reds are "the gamers favorite" when with browns you can feel when you've pushed the key down and at the same time have less clicky.

As somebody that plays games I'd like to know if I've pushed a key down enough for it to register. But maybe that's just me.
>>
>>56101084
I think it started because the gaming crowd bottoms out when playing usually.

So what's a great keyboard?

I have a G15 right now. Before you go ballistic, I got this ages ago and it's about time I replaced it and did it right.
So what do I use my keyboard for? Programming, and video games.

Which means, the small keyboards you've got pictures of look amazing, but I can't use 'em.

What's the definitive keyboard?

It's good, but for the price you need to get it up to the level of a Realforce, you would have spent less money on a Realforce. If custom keycaps are important to you, get a Novatouch.
>>
>>56102903

Eurofag here, most recommendations would need a import and that's too much hassle for me

I also want a very simple looking keyboard without too much branding

Just trying to play it safe. Sometimes I wake up early enough to make a new thread for my general on /vg/, just happened to noticed /mkg/ fell off and made one this morning. I was gonna put something like "I love the smell of solder in the morning edition", but idk if that'd go over too well.

>>56101666
Damn, Satan. I honestly don't see the need to flip the spacebar. I've tried it and it feels a bit weird.
>>
>>56103656
If the barebones Novatouch is available in your country, I would recommend getting that shipped to you and buying a set of PBT keycaps to put on it.
>>
>>56092278

>>
I just want something simple. 80$ at most.

Murrican

I'm used to 104 keys so I guess that.

I guess brown switches. Those seem alright from what I can tell. I like the idea of having some kind of feedback and ease of press and not being loud.
>>
Im searching for an affordable mechanic with cherry blues.

Most of the shit on amazon is full of leds and childish things. I mean I am a gamer, but this marketing is obnoxious as fuck.
I just want a simple minimalist keyboard that is reliable. I live in central america so price is really a concern, I cant pay more than 80 bucks. I found the k83 gigabyte and it looks right up my alley. Gigabyte makes fine gpus so I guess the keyboards must be good too right? I wanted the wasd v2 but i cant afford that much so the gigabyte is the one Im looking for.
Anybody has experience with it?

Just bought a white ducky one TKL with mx greens, best mech kb I've owned. Previous ones were majestouch 2/ducky mini with reds and a leopold 850 with browns. The layout is a bit different with a smaller left shift and return keys, but it's easy enough to get used to.

Typing on greens is actually more intuitive than I thought it would be. I still bottom out more often than not, but it's better for someone like me who hammers the keys that they seem to be able to take it.

I'm not sure how long it will take me to get used to the media key placement, but it's pretty neat.

CM Storm QF, Ducky Zero, maybe Corsair. Mindfactory is probably the best place to look.

>"Mechanical-switch keyboards use separate complete switches underneath every key. Each switch is composed of a base, a spring, and a stem. Depending on the shape of the stem, such keyboards have varying actuation and travel distance. Switches also come in three variants, linear with consistent resistance, and tactile with a non-audible bump or with an audible click. Depending on the resistance of the spring, the key requires different amounts of pressure to actuate. Mechanical keyboards allow for the removal and replacement of keycaps."

It's not that nice. The aluminim isn't great quality, the LEDs have been proven to die easily, and it screams gamer, given how the gaming peripheral industry panders to that kind of crap. Also, those keycaps.

And that's just acknowledging the design-related aspects of their products.

I'd expected better from someone who owns a pok3r. I bet you use the caps that came with it.

No, I can definitely tell you're kidding.
>>
>>56112223
We are talking looks here. Aluminum quality doesn't impact looks. LED quality doesn't impact looks. You discredit the entire product because of who it's marketed towards. The quality of the keycaps is also a thing that is not visible. Keep in mind I'm arguing as to why people buy this instead of CM keyboards, I'm not trying to convince you they are of higher quality. We are talking exclusively about looks.

And i use the miami caps :^)

>>56112506
Industrial design involves its real-world usage being a central factor to its design philosophies. It's pretty clear you have no clue what industrial design is, with comments that exclude core philosophies such as "...show in promo shots or straight out of the box...".

Anyway, it's pretty clear on the aluminium front when you get your hands on the thing, even more so after some use. And the LED one is pretty simple, too. It looks nice if it's on, it looks crap if it's off. The later is quite prominent with owners of the board. My friend had to RMA his after a week because of it, with many other users reporting issues and having to do the same on Corsair's forums, and online elsewhere. Doesn't look very good when the LEDs don't work.

I owned a K70 before my Pok3r too, the caps and bottom case were trash in comparison. PCB also had more flex, but the looks were the biggest difference IMO.

I got it because it was only half-decent board with blues in-store, but there's a huge difference in quality.

Rate my keyboard timeline:

1) Corsair K95 (Cherry Red MX) - Cut my teeth with this one as a hand-me down from work. Used briefly at home, now swap it in when my nephew wants to pound away at Stepmania
2) Ducky Shine 4 (Cherry MX Blue) - Used briefly at home, daily driver at work. Has WoB Skull Wars keycaps, soon to be replaced by Hana DSA.
3) Varmilo VA87MR (Gateron Blue) - Favorite keyboard so far, was in use for some time before I started streaming. Now semi-retired waiting for Danger Zone or Skull Squadron keycap sets.
4) Noppoo Choc Mini (Gateron Brown) - Daily driver at home, convenient for mouse room and quiet enough to stream with. Not a fan of tactile bumps though.
5) Cherry G80-1800 (Cherry MX Black default) Purely for collector purposes. Sometimes swap with my Ducky if I need to be in a long phone call.
6) Logitech K400 Plus (lel) - What I take with me into meetings and presentations.

Check the enter key. If it's like a shift key it's probably ANSI, if it's fat and takes up multiple rows it's probably ISO. Some keyboards have special snow flake bottom rows, and most key sets have standard ones.

Go for it, if you like them. Just be sure to try them first. Also, keep in mind that it's near impossible to find decent keycaps to replace the ones that come with them.

Is there any reason to buy this and the adapters?

have you owned one?
comparing them to my other ABS keycap keyboards i haven't found anything better

i do prefer GMK over it though
>>
>>56131956
I bought four of them for my collection, they're awesome but that adapter won't do anything.

You need a custom-wired Teensy or Soarer's converter going into that with firmware from https://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/xt-at-ps2-terminal-to-usb-converter-with-nkro-t2510.html

Still great for 60-70 bucks all-in. Way more interesting than a model M for the same money.
>>
>>56132092
No, but I can tell you that laser-etched legends turn any keycap to shit, regardless of how THICC they are.

If you want good stock keycaps, get a HHKB/Realforce/Leopold or a Ducky one with dye-subbed PBT

I have a db9 male connector on my computer will it not work?
>>
>>56132248
It will not.
>>
if i had to choose between green, blue and brown switches. what would be my best choice?
This is my first keyboard and i don't know if i want too much noise , but i heard browns are complete shit so..
>>
>>56132207
wait that keyboard isn't xt at or ps2 how will the adapter even work
>>
>>56132571
That adapter isn't originally any interface, it just comes pre-wired to those from resellers. You can buy an original converter and wire it up completely, or rewire a premade to an RS232 cable on one end.

Ducky One or Shine 5?
Price isnt an issue.

False. I prefer topre all the way but greens, clears and greys are good mxs switches

What is the cheapest board with MX Greens or green equivalents? My current board is a $40 Magicforce with MX Blue knockoffs, and I like the click but the activation force is ridiculously low. I might as well be using reds.

Hey anons, I had the opportunity to mess with a co-workers mech at work and now I want to throw money at one.

I honestly love the sound and feel of typing on one, but I'm curious, is it actually worth it? Will these keyboards last forever? Because I can still get a cheap membrane keyboard for $10. In your experience, has your mechanical keyboard been a worthwhile investment aside from comfort and aesthetics? While the amount of money isn't really significant, I still get buyer's remorse if I'm disappointed with something.
>>
>>56136648
it's purely aesthetics and comfyness
>>
>>56136648
yes, it is worth it.
you will never go back to membranes and hate it when you have to type using someone else's computer/keyboard

idk if they will last forever, but it doesn't really matter because you WILL fall into this meme hole and buy different mechanical keyboards/keycaps before the first one breaks desu,

the only thing that will probably break easy are the LEDs, but that goes with any kind of backlit keyboard.

backlit keyboards look lame anyway.
>>
>>56136843
>>56136864
Thanks for the info. I dislike backlights. I'm also a huge miser so I don't really think I'll fall for any consumer memes. At beast I'd buy one keyboard and maybe different keycap sets.

I think I'll hold off for now since I'm still deciding which one I even want. I'm thinking of buying this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OBA6QYY/
It's on sale but I don't know for how long. It's relatively cheap and it looks nice, imo.
>>
>>56136000
yeah but greens are loud
and grays are only found in weird fuckin keyboards and i dont have any time to spend on soldering a keyboard
i have some gateron blacks coming in soon though so ill see how they perform w/ the tada68 maybe ill like them
>>
How often do you clean your keyboards? I've gotten used to wiping down mine with alcohol wipes every other day but I feel like I might be overdoing it.
>>
>>56137781
Youll like gaterons over cherry thats 100% sure atleast
>>

Once in two days with a brush once every month that I bath the caps + clean inside

Honestly the floating keys is a nice touch with any of those keyboards but the K70 is overkill and makes a nice keyboard design look ugly.

Other than looks, is there any reason to buy anything more expensive than a $60 quickfire?

All of these keyboards use the same Cherry MX switches anyway, right?
>>
>>56092819
Literally my keyboard, browns feel great btw

I have a cooler master rapid I.

I would have been fine with a normal one, but it was literally the only keyboard that had brown switches.

Well no, not really.

But to answer your question about the Quickfire, in your situation I wouldn't buy a new board with the same switch type.

Do you think we will change into /ikg/ with those infrared and shit switches coming out? They seem to be much better than mechanical switches

No, hall effect switches have been around for 50 years and we're still here.

is there such a thing as a good wireless mechanial keyboard?
>>
>>56147809
Yep, Filco Minila Air. I've heard the Lindon was pretty good for a lot less, but it uses Kaihl switches.

Still hard to rec the Filco over it since it's 3x the price.

How much louder in general are mechanical keyboards compared to rubber dome keyboards? I prefer to work on my projects at night but I live in a one room dormitory and every year I get a new normie roommate (they go to sleep before midight pretty much always) and one of them already threatened to kill me because the sound of my (rubber band) keyboard typing was apparently making him unable to sleep.

>>56149208
what switches are you interested in?

my lubed zealios are very comparable in noise to the keys on my laptop
>>
>>56149305
No red switches (I think that would be too much for someone who only used rubber band before) and obviously not blue switches either since they're the loudest ones right.
>>
>>56149349
red switches are still loud if you bottom out with them, if you don't they are essentially silent.

and blues/greens are probably the loudest cherry switch but not quite in general

Magicforce 68. It's the closest thing to a good keyboard out of all of those.

>>56149349

>>56103821

Oh hey, it almost looks like a heart.

Do you think I should leave this shape as it's about minimal area needed to contain switches and micro-controller or make it bigger and more rectangular for easier packing and carrying around?
