Bought the OP3, it's shipping out in a week, 15 day 'trial period' so I can return if I want
>$519 CAD

I'm upgrading from a 5x.
I pretty much use basic phone features but my 5x lacked good audio speakers / call quality / headphone quality / battery / overheating issues which actually stops me from playing games and charging the device at the same time.

Did I make a mistake with the OP3?
Or should I hold onto my 5x until the next line of Nexus comes out and decide then?
It doesn't hurt to try out the OP3 but I can always cancel the order before it ships.

Had a samsung s3 a few years ago, ysed for 2 years with a case without any issues. Took the case off and had the screen cracked within 3 days. Have been using an otterbox case on my phones consistently since.
>>
>>55885179
The thing is that upgrading nowadays does literally jackshit. Phones are LONG past the point of you seeing an actual performance bump. I can't possibly imagine a scenario where someone who bought a flagship in the recent years going "yeah, this phone is just not handling this app well anymore". We're actually losing features for the sake of phones getting thinner and better looking and aside from barely noticeable camera improvements, the design is playing a much bigger role than before. So in short, you basically ruin one of their major selling points while also ruining the feel of the thing because you turned your sleek sexy machine into an unwieldly wardrobe. I just slap one of those glass protectors on the front MAYBE and call it a day. Never had a problem.

I got a 5x and I was surprised to find this micro USB to USB type C adapter in the box.
Will this and an S6 micro USB cable allow me to root the device. I mean is it compatible because I've read many negative reviews of type C to type A cables, some were overcharging and others were damaging batteries.
>>
>>55885250
Agreed. I've got an s4 19505 now, and when I put the specs into gsm and compare them with current smartphones they're better, but not £5-600 worth of better. But I take the opposite conclusion, that I'd rather slap a protective cover on it and get as many years as possible before having to upgrade, rather than be forced to spend another 5-600 in 2 years on a fractionally 'better' phone because it's cracked.

>>
Question re removable battery:

I replaced the battery in my phone a year and a half ago and reinstalled the OS. It went from being a bloated, 2 hour battery piece of shit to essentially a brand new phone.

Have the modern non-removable battery phones cracked this problem with new technology? That after 2-3 years the battery will start to fail? Or is this just planned obsolescence so that you have to go out and buy a new phone every 2 years?

Basically I don't want to shell out for a s7 edge which is the best phone on the market imo but then have the thing be barely usable due to battery life in 2018 when I could have got an admittedly shitter LG G5 but be able to replace the battery and have brand new performance again.

Sup guys.
Looking for a new phone (upgrading from my Samsung s5).
All in all I liked android, but started to hate Samsung. I´ve always used apple before and kind of wanted to see the "other side".
Should I just return to iphones and wait for the iphone 7 or are there any good android phones out there?
Hated the lag on my s5, needs 2 seconds to open camera, crashes, laggs. Just buggy and feels cheap.
Price does not matter, just give me a high end phone with a good screen, camera and good day to day usage. I´m not falling for this spec madness where you have 6GB of Ram but it´s still super slow.

Dear god iPhones are expensive as shit
>>
>>55886661
so the iphone 7 will definitely lose the headphone jack? Would it be still okay to get the 6s plus then or will apple make it useless in 1 year and a half.

Heard the Oneplus3 has a shit camera/screen
>>
>>55886710
Well it´s working, but I kinda can afford an upgrade in the future.

Did the factory reset a couple of times and always updated it. Android 6.0 made things better but it still feels no match to my Iphone 5 that i had before.

Basically what i´m having on my mind is the nexus line because I think a clean android experience would be great.

I dont know what happened though, I mean the s5 worked perfectly fine for like half a year and after the time passed you could feel it getting slower
>>
>>55886700
iPhone 6S is a pretty good device, probably the best on the market right now. Only thing is that Samsung has caught up with Apple on the camera side and the S7/Note7 have now a better camera than the iPhone.

But many people are saying Apple will release a big update to the iPhone line in 2017, so yeah...

Got the OP3 myself, best phone I've ever had. Coming from a S5 too.
>>
>>55886761
6P is good if you want a Nexus. Keep in mind they'll update their Nexus line in october though.
>>
>>55886771
On the one hand I know what i´m getting with the iphone. And its true the camera is really great but it just feels so slow.

I fear that the oneplus3 will get slow too, a problem ive never really had with apple.
Sure the iphone 4 for example does not perform that good anymore, but its almost 6 years old now. Compare that to a samsung device
>>
>>55886803
sure. I mean I got time, just wanted to inform myself a bit (or am I too early).
Another thing I hated was how fuckin long I´ve waited for the software updates. Coming from Germany it was even depending on your carrier. So i waited half a year longer
>>
>>55886684
Not only that but gay and have all the problems listed in >>55885852
>>
>>55886849
I never really had any problems.
It´s a good phone with a nice day to day experience. But its true that they´re a little bit overpriced
>>
>>55886810
>>55886831
Well I'm into rooting and installing custom ROMs and stuff, so even if Oneplus shits itself I can still help myself out.

I'd wait until the iPhone 7 comes out: if you like it you can buy it. If you don't, you can get the 6S (which performs almost exactly the same) for €100 less or wait for the Nexuses.
>>
>>55886905
thanks for your advice!
Tried rooting once -> almost broke my phone because i´m a little bit dumb I guess.
I feel like there´s potential to be all custom and shit, but I just want a clean experience where I dont have to tweak anything x)

So I think I´d better go for either Nexus or Iphone then.
Btw is Sony still a reasonable choice or have they been completely shut off by the other companies?
>>

Oh fuck no. You do that yourself if you want to and install Google Play if you plan on using that ROM.
Use the Mi unblock to unlock the booloader.

After you do that, install a new rom, CM13 is the best one.

phone VR seems more suited for watching movies and porn than PC. Just the fact that you don't need to worry about snagging a cable with your chair.

You still have to constantly remove and slot in your phone which is annoying especially if you have it in a protective case.

I agree with your point on games being sub par experience on a phone since it lacks the processing grunt and the accurate responsive tracking.

>on pc i could see VR working for like a first person shooter with a mouse and keyboard
You cannot be further from the truth, I tried VorpX on HTC Vive with some FPSes using M+KB for movement and it sucks balls.

FPS designed from the ground up with VR in mind (decoupled head and hand movement, 6DoF movement) works great. A good example despite being made on a shoestring budget would be battle dome.

>or for a racing game
Racing and cockpit based games designed for monitor seem to work fine in VR for traditional games, but the experience is better if it includes head tracking to look around inside the car.

Frankly for outdoor and daily use I'd take AR over VR any day, for home use VR is fine. At least with AR you have the option to include VR as a subset once the technology improves and you are aware of your surroundings.

Exynos S7 Edge now has pretty much the same performance as a 2.4 Ghz Haswell i3 laptop now.

However the same problem remains: you can't run x86 software on it.

Anyway your Note 4 probably has the same performance as a 1.6 GHz Haswell i3 laptop and you could make it function like one if you could find adequate ARM software for the things you want to do on it.

Though in the end I still think getting a used thinkpad is still a much better choice due to upgradability.

>>
>>55888640
yes having the cursor locked to your head movement is very irritating.

If you disable head tracking then it is like you are looking at a really huge monitor that wraps around a big chunk of your FoV.

If you move your head around with a large FoV and the image does not reflect that change in head movement you start to feel nauseous. If you use edge peek and reduce FoV to make it look like you are playing the game in a cinema on a large screen then you would not feel any nausea but at that point you may as well play on a monitor since the weight of the fucking thing on your head becomes tiring on your neck after a few hours of play.

Using controllers, physically peaking/ducking behind cover/blind shooting and aiming with your own hands is way more fun.

Less strenuous on your neck as well since you get to move around as you would naturally.
They really need to shave off a big chunk of weight on the HMD. It is too front heavy.

I wouldn't recommend you get VR at this stage, wait until the medium matures.
>>
>>55888754
Well damn. The only reason I care about VR is to play STALKER and No One Lives Forever in it. I wouldn't mind playing with motion controllers but if the lack of headtracking will make me sick I'll pass.

>What are the main differences between the 5X and the RN3P?

>>
>>55889024
I would kill for a proper implementation of STALKER in VR. Best you could hope for is someone to mod the ever loving shit out of it to support motion controls and head tracking.

Sounds like an impossible feat without having access to the source code.

Nexus 5 Advantages over the RMN3:
>gorilla glass
>higher PPI (5" screen)
>"wireless charging"
>Stock Android 6 (over 5.1.1 on the Redmi Note 3 - probably will update to 6 in a few weeks though)
>NFC
>more ROM support, more community support

Redmi Note 3 Advantages over the Nexus
>4050 mAh battery (instead of 2300 mAh on the Nexus)
>better processor (Snapdragon 650 (78.252 Antutu score) vs Snapdragon 800 (38.441 Antutu score)
>Micro SD card slot
>takes nano sim
>Dual SIM (or one sim+one micro sd card)

I was trying to type this in the last thread but it got locked before I could.

Anyone who's on the fence between the Nexus 6P and the Moto X Pure I too was there and went with the 6P because of the following.

Lenovo owns Motorola now and reports have flooded the net with Lenovo flat out ignoring support emails, calls, RMA process is fucked, they claim to fix defective devices only to ship it back to customers in worse shape than they shipped it out originally

Other issues I've been seeing is the last few months quality control is gone and new Moto X Pures are shipping out with screen issues and bad charging ports.

I wanted a pure because it checks all the boxes but with hearing this and knowing Lenovo closing up warehouses in the states I just had to go with the 6P.

With the 6P at least Huawei is obligated to update their software by Googles standards and their customer service is better than Lenovos (but that's not saying much)

Hopefully you bros on the fence read this and take it into consideration at least.

Dropped my Nexus 6 and shattered the screen. Verizon said it wasn't covered, so I canceled the service, bent over for the botnet and signed up for Project Fi.

I got a Nexus 5x 32gb, and honestly I don't really know how I feel about it. The N6 was probably the best phone I've ever had, if not just a little too big, which is why I opted for the smaller N5x. They are very different phones though. The build quality of the N5x's plastic exterior feels so shitty. I can gently rub my finger across the back of it and hear and feel a definite creaking sound. It just feels cheap as fuck, like it may fall apart in my hands at any time. Going from the N6's AMOLED display to the 1080p LCD display of this phone is also a pain, but I think I'll get used to it.

Software wise, android works perfectly fine, and is super snappy.

Can't wait until the case ships so I can somewhat stop worrying about the phone breaking suddenly. Ordered a Diztronic Ultra TPU.

My Note 3 has died due to water damage (rain) today

It sometimes turns on for about a minute, sometimes restarts mid boot, and sometimes stays with a black screen and blue LED light. When on, the screen is sometimes just red, or dark, or jumping, or CRT looking static, or weird glitches

Any way to confirm it's just the screen (which I can buy cheaply and swap out at home) that's damaged?

If not, I can only really see myself getting a note 4 probably, all other phones don't look great

Yeah, it's impossible to permanently softbrick a xiaomi phone (meaning it's retard proof and a good phone to start if you're new to the whole flashing shit)
>>
>>55893101
if i told you that your model of car is notorious for not being able to start roughly a year into ownership, but don't sweat it, "they fixed it" - how confident would you be in your purchase? as someone that sells and fixes phones, i would not recommend any LG phone to anyone looking for a guaranteed long term investment

I would be willing to bet HTC would be better with updates, but how much better would be the mystery. Also the one thing about the OP3 that bugs me is that it gives the option for on-screen buttons, but seeing as it uses an AMOLED those can very well burn in.

How can I improve battery life further? It seems bizarre that a 2400mah battery isn't lasting near a full day on moderate use. I'm running Greenify and Amplify with Xposed functionality on an m7 with CM12.1 underclocked to 1ghz.

Additionally, any other anons= had problems with their smartphone powering itself off before the battery is anywhere near depleted?

>>
>>55894851
how about if I pair it with an e17k?
>>
>>55894873
Borderline acceptable I'd say. Generally anything worse than a $300 audiophile player + adequate headphones is not good enough for lossless.

Pairing fiios with phones is kinda a way to not deal with shitty chinkplayer interfaces etc. The resulting sandwich looks extremely ugly, though.

M7 is old, and battery is probably old too.

A year ago I bought a refurb M7 in perfect condition and I struggled to get 4 hours of SoT after trying every single ROM and everything out there. I ended up using the GPE 5.1 Lollipop ROM for max stability and performance (CM13 was never stable for me).

Ended up giving it to my sister. My new RN3P has 12hrs SoT so I was happy to get rid of the M7. My sister broke the charger port on the M7 eventually so I bought her a Redmi 3S. That thing also gets about 12 hours SoT, benchmarks better than the M7 and was only $115 USD... just get a new phone.
>>
>>55894951
And yet it's a special one. What other phones with high quality DACs can you remember from the top of your head?

Secondly, X7 is mid-grade.
Thirdly, rigging matters.

Also, the chip is delta-sigma; and I kinda personally dislike delta-sigmas. Only really good for electronic music.
>>
>>55885878

The technology of the batteries is still the same. So after x amount (300-600 or something) of complete charging cycles you will still see degradation. It doesn't help that these batteries degrade a certain percentage every year, even if you dont use them. Most manufacterers do offer a battery replacement service but that shit is expensive most of the time.

So great battery life the first year, 80- 90 percent the next year and after that it goes downhill fast.

Fuck Sammy and this locked up phone design bullshit.

Why can't they appeal to Note buyers for fuck's sake? I would even buy it with the new McHigh price tag, but no removable battery? Fuck that.

LG V10 or G4 it is. V10 is similar in size, so that's the winner so far. (Upgrading from a Note 4.)
