So, how shit is Opera?

I don't like Firefox and I'm afraid of evil Google, is this a reasonable alternative?
>>
Went to bed before my question got answered last night.

Had a flashdrive plugged in and it somehow quit working on my desktop. Works fine in other computers, even managed to reformat it on my laptop but my desktop won't recognize it in device manager.

Help?

>What's the best method for transferring large amounts of data between two computers if online solutions aren't an option?
You have few options, from fastest to slowest:
1) Plug the drive of one computer to the other, copy and paste files
2)Connect computers to a LAN with ethernet cables and transfer files
3)Use an external hard drive to move files
4)Use an usb drive to move files

>And what's the best way to install an OS on a new computer if you lack a real disc?
Write the .iso on a usb and boot from it

Why is the Bronze-rated Seasonic M12 II ranked so highly? Or am I confusing it with the M12II Evo? (That one is listed twice)

Personally I have a Seasonic X-650. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the Platinum X-650, G-650 and M12II 650 is the efficiency (in that order), although the X-650 also lists automatic fan control, low power states and additional certifications which the M12II-EVO does not.

Not exactly sure what's going on here, but I'd love to hear more about the actual justification behind these tier lists.

Designing with just transistors got hard, so then we started using gates. Then gates got hard, so we used modules like muxes, adders etc. Then those got hard, so we made programming languages to put together blocks.

in the market for a cheap laptop, is there a /g/-recommend list or infographic for affordable laptops?

You'll probably need ECC RAM to work with what'll come with it, though the T3600 can use either if you want to swap out completely from one to the other.
It may not have a standard mount for the heat sink, so you may be stuck with the Dell one.

If so, then say you have a class called "Person", I read that "constructors" would have to have the same name as your class, or in this case "Person" but if that's the case it cobtradicts the times I create ArrayList objects like "ArrayList<String> string = new ArrayList<String>(); because this is an instance of me using a constructor but it doesn't have the same name as my class "Person"

Can someone clear this confusion up?

Defining a constructor for your class isn't the same as invoking some other class' constructor.
>>
>>55864606
A constructor is a function that gets executed when you create a new instance of the class.

My question was, say you have a class Person then a "constructor" would be what is invoked by 'Person person = new Person("Bob, 37);

then say in the same class I create an ArrayList....

ArrayList<String> names = new ArrayList<String>();

This also invoked another constructor... BUT it doesn't have the same name as "Person" so how can this ArrayList be a constructor too?

I think >>55864711 is saying that there is another class called ArrayList<String> ??? that is invoked within my Person class?

Generally if you're trying to do anything that pushes your hardware to the max then a VM is less than Ideal, but you still may get solid results. If your processor has VT-d then go ahead and try hyper-v. Otherwise you might be best with a dualboot

It's fairly hard to tell if RAM bandwidth is a bottleneck, but it rarely happens. As for capacity it should be obvious, look at how much is used and if you're at like 90% or above you could probably use more.

GPU bottlenecks are the most obvious (and common in a balanced system), your GPU usage will be at 99-100%.

CPU bottlenecks can be discerned by high CPU usage too, even if it's on only 1 core. If you have 1 core at 100% load for instance you would still be CPU bottlenecked. Other than that, high CPU usage may not always be observed even when bottlenecked, it's more tricky to tell but if you find in-game situations where both your FPS *and* your GPU usage go down, then it suggests that your GPU isn't being fed quickly enough for it to perform at full speed. This is generally a CPU bottleneck.

>>55864784
Each class has its own constructor. The Person class has a constructor named Person, ArrayList has a constructor named ArrayList, String has a constructor named String and so on. ArrayList is a different class, even if you use it inside your own class. Their constructors have absolutely nothing to do with one another.

Depends on how you define it. IE had huge market share thanks to windows bundling, and for many years websites were coded with it in mind by default, but it was still inferior to it's competitors for most of that time. Edge isn't a horrible browser to use, it's just way less capable than the others. For the average person who doesn't know what a plugin is it'll work alright, but microsoft doesn't have a great history of drawing in app/extension developers and I feel like the prevalence of other browsers is going to draw people away from developing edge extensions. Also I'm curious to see how much microsoft restricts what extensions are allowed. They might block certain privacy ones or anything that interferes with how they want the browser to run or draws people away from cortana.

Is this an example where the constructor exist in two separate classes?

The book I ramdonly googled gave this example

A constructor that takes no arguments is called the default constructor. The Java documents
typically use the term no-arg constructor, but “default constructor” has been in use for many
years before Java appeared, so I will tend to use that. But like any method, the constructor
can also have arguments to allow you to specify how an object is created. The preceding
example can easily be changed so the constructor takes an argument:
//: initialization/SimpleConstructor2.java
// Constructors can have arguments.
class Rock2 {
Rock2(int i) {
System.out.print("Rock " + i + " ");
}
}
public class SimpleConstructor2 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
for(int i = 0; i < 8; i++)
new Rock2(i);
}
} /* Output:
Rock 0 Rock 1 Rock 2 Rock 3 Rock 4 Rock 5 Rock 6 Rock 7
*///:~

My question is... how can you just type Rock2(i); to intialize the constructor?

Wouldn't you at least need Rock Rock 2 = new Rock(); somewhere in the code?

Additionally, how can you invoke Rock2 constructor inside the SimpleConstructor2 class and how can SimpleConstructor2 class have the Rock2 class inside it? Or is this a poor example and the book is showing 2 separate classes?

Thanks for the help... this is clearing up my confusion.

For the most part, Algorithms and Data Structures are a "solved problem" for you in java, meaning that it's a very rich and mature ecosystem, and for anything you'd need to do there's already a library, written better than you could. Most of the time, Java work is putting toghether off-the-shelf components.

For learning Java, in my time there was Thinking in Java, but I think it's somewhat old by now? The core concepts hold, tho, but there are some news, like generics and lambdas.

For Algorythms, I've found the first book in this list very helpful
http://www.java67.com/2015/09/top-10-algorithm-books-every-programmer-read-learn.html

Again you can get around doing 95% of coding without that, as long as you know to not do exponential complexity.

Ask /daily programming general/ for other opinions.
>>
>>55865248
Standard Firmware and nothing else.
Others seem to have this problem too, but I could not find any solution yet.
Is there a way to chech that all protocols are running as they should?

My desktop at home is currently using an old 9800GT, but there's a stack of GTX 470s at work, which I am allowed to borrow if I want (they came out of a compute server, which was recently replaced).

Would it be worthwhile to replace my home 9800GT with a GTX 470, or would the increased power consumption just be too wasteful to justify the performance?

I'm mostly just seeking opinions. I know the better idea, by far, is to just get an efficient modern GPU, but I don't want to spend any money for now.

>>
>>55861703
For some reason, even if I took my graphics card out and plugged the monitor to the motherboard's dvi out, it still isn't displaying anything

>>55865243
Merely using new Rock(i); would create a new object and run that Rock object's constructor. Since you aren't doing anything else with the rock object it would be fine leaving it like that. Otherwise, you can store it in a variable by doing Rock rock = new Rock(i);
>>
>>55865307
When you say that other people are having this problem, do you mean people with your specific model or marsmallow users in general?
>>
>>55865497
Thanks,

whenever I try to copy paste their code it doesn't compile as is..

It looks like it's two separate programs

class Rock2 {
Rock2(int i) {
System.out.print("Rock " + i + " ");
}
}

public class SimpleConstructor2 {
public static void main(String[] args) {
for(int i = 0; i < 8; i++)
new Rock2(i);
}
}

Or is it suppose to be in the same program?

I just need a good tutorial on constructors... I thought constructors were limited to the same class name which in this case is SimpleConstructor2 and not Rock2

I understand you can invoke other classes constructors which is what I assumed this was doing, but looks like despite what I thought it might actually be contained in the same class?

What's the best way to detect new posts in a 4chan thread and ignore everything else?

Yes. Internally, there is always some OS-level overhead due to the necessary bookeeping (page tables and physical bitmaps) for tracking the RAM usage. 170MB to 251 MB idle is really not bad at all, IMO.

>>55866274
It's a very similar principle to how a 500GB hard drive wastes 50GB when you format it, but a 2TB hard drive wastes over 100GB after formatting--just increased bookkeeping data is required so that the system knows what's free space and where things are.
