By router I'm assuming you mean a gateway, which is an ISP modem with router abilities built in. Yes, can attach an external router with more controlls. Usually what you would do is just put the gateway into bridging mode so that it acts just as a modem. A handful of ISP routers do not allow bridging mode, in which case you would take a small performance hit from nesting routers. On the other hand you could just enter DNS settings into each device directly and not have to buy anything

In the market for a new monitor, its been many years. Do they still look terrible running at below-native resolution? Should I buy a 4k for future proofing purposes even though I won't have a video card that can game at that resolution for awhile? Do I have to pony up for a 1080 or w/e to have reasonable use of a 4k monitor while gaming?

I zero'd out my external hard drive today (including GUID tables) and now it won't format.

I came up with a solution that involves flashing an empty .img (that has a table itself) onto it using dd. That works but now I can only use like 10GB out of 1TB. Is there a way I can expand the partition to take up lets say the whole 1TB?

I found a hp scanjet 3570c scanner. it won't work with 12v or 18V. Maybe it's the USB, since it's not the one that came with it, and the original is lost. I'm more curious about taking the parts and jury rigging something usable. Or is it literally trash and worth more to get a cheap scanner?

As far as DX12 and Vulkan are concerned, yes, the RX 480 will pull ahead. At those prices though, I'd personally go with the R9 390. While only slightly better in raw power and a bit of a housefire it's hard to justifying spending more for an RX 480. AMD cards retain performance pretty damn well, since driver quality matters a lot less than a comparable Nvidia card. Their method of brute hardware force over driver finesse pays off.

Question for Macfags. The GPU on my 2009 Mac Pro is dying. It's a NVIDIA GT 120. i have an old HP desktop that I'm trying to fix. before the computer just completely stopped loading into vista at all, it gave me an error that said "loadkey failed with error 1009 sthive0." Ok, you are mixing up 2 different ideas. You could make a vpn for yourself, that existed only on your devices both in your home and other places, like on your cell phone. That would reinforce your wireless security so that if somebody cracked your password they couldn't steal your information. But it would do nothing for your torrent privacy. That would require somebody ELSE to make the VPN, or at least a vps somewhere in the world to host it. If you make the vpn at home you still need another place to have the internet connection pop out that isn't associated with you.

I wrote a program that will send multiple unique requests asychronously to a REST api for account registration. The problem I am coming into now is wanting at least some kind of anonymity through (ideally) each request, though I could settle for less. Different IP addresses on each account would be the end goal, but a balance of speed, anonymity, and amount of registrations is important.

The idea I have in my head right now is utilizing TOR, having multiple instances running on different ports, and switching exit nodes on X amount of successful registrations for each running connection.

My question: Is this how others would do this or is there a better way that I'm not aware of?

even the cheapest 5400rpm drives can achieve >100-150MB/s and while cheap ssds have been >250-500MB/s for a long time now 100-150MB/s is still fast enough that you very likely won't run into an issue with it

Local dumbass here... So if I'm using XCode for C/C++ projects, and want to include a file such as

std::ifstream inputFile("folder1/folder2/folder3/porn/folder4/triangle.txt");

What could I do to not have to write all the subdirectories leading to "triangle.txt"? Is it as easy as dragging and dropping the file to the sidebar?

Perhaps the heavy artillery will have to wait. I'm trying to run the standalone installers on the 3 updates you have me KB3102810, KB3138612, and KB3172605. Regular windows installer is running again, but I want to wait on running the updater itself until I verify whether or not I can run the standalone installers. (tried to run the installers a while ago, but they had some sort of error that kept coming up, so I restarted my pc to see if that would fix it)

You don't want the main windows update running while you are attempting to run stand alone installers. Run the first tool. It will clean the slate and you can go immediately into installing those updates. Also if it spits out an error code at the end you can try googling that for specific problems, but it's usually not important. Also do the sfc /scannow. It won't fuck anything up and it might save you a lot of time. The second tool is more like the nuclear option, and it has 2 levels of power depending on whether you check the box for full whammy.

I was trying to run the manual installers but they always opened windows update on the task manager. I tried running the manual update again and it still wasn't working. So I looked at the task manager and killed the svchost process that was taking a shitload of resources and it did the trick. The manual updates are installing as we speak.

Glad the updates are moving along. Your picrelated is saying that some of your system files are corrupted. You want to fix that because it might be the cause of a lot of your problems. You can try running sfc from safe mode. If that doesn't work there's the 'system update readiness tool' which is like 500mb but makes sure you have important updates in order and can potentially repair files. You can also manually replace the broken files

The files that are kill on my pc are "utc.app.json" and it seems like these were part of the windows 10 update, but they were removed with updates released at a later time. Right now I'm installing about 500 MB worth of updates. I'm gonna wait for it to complete and run sfc.exe to see if my file system is sill kill.

I can't find the answer to this despite hours searching on forums. I'm running a VPN at home with cryptostorm widget which doesn't involve manually changing any dns settings in the router. I'm also using openvpn for Android on my phone on the same cryptostorm token but can't use my home wifi because there wasn't a changed dns ip on th e router. Is this a router issue or is there an openvpn setting to go through the router but remain on the vpn?
