Pirates go to reddit.

My digital life is the place to crack windows, make a fucking account already.

If you just made a new PC, you need to plug your monitor into the graphics card, not the mobo.

So I'll get a Dell workstation t3600 with a e5-1650 xeon some non ECC RAM a non specified 425W psu etc.
Some anon said it probably will just have a 6-pin connector. Can I simply get a new psu and put any card in there?

By router I'm assuming you mean a gateway, which is an ISP modem with router abilities built in. Yes, can attach an external router with more controlls. Usually what you would do is just put the gateway into bridging mode so that it acts just as a modem. A handful of ISP routers do not allow bridging mode, in which case you would take a small performance hit from nesting routers. On the other hand you could just enter DNS settings into each device directly and not have to buy anything
>>
Making my reply here
>>55866912
>No you're thinking of something else. He doesn't want to bridge, he wants to make the second router an access point. Or if the second router isn't trying to do wireless, then just buy a cheap switch instead
it's bridge mode when its a wired connection, its client mode when its acting like an AP.
Either way telling OP to buy a switch when he already has 2 routers is stupid.

In the market for a new monitor, its been many years. Do they still look terrible running at below-native resolution? I zero'd out my external hard drive today (including GUID tables) and now it won't format.

I came up with a solution that involves flashing an empty .img (that has a table itself) onto it using dd. That works but now I can only use like 10GB out of 1TB. Is there a way I can expand the partition to take up lets say the whole 1TB?

I found a hp scanjet 3570c scanner. it won't work with 12v or 18V. Maybe it's the USB, since it's not the one that came with it, and the original is lost. I'm more curious about taking the parts and jury rigging something usable. Or is it literally trash and worth more to get a cheap scanner?

As far as DX12 and Vulkan are concerned, yes, the RX 480 will pull ahead. At those prices though, I'd personally go with the R9 390. While only slightly better in raw power and a bit of a housefire it's hard to justifying spending more for an RX 480. AMD cards retain performance pretty damn well, since driver quality matters a lot less than a comparable Nvidia card. Their method of brute hardware force over driver finesse pays off.

Question for Macfags. The GPU on my 2009 Mac Pro is dying. It's a NVIDIA GT 120. I'm looking to purchase a newer graphics card and I've found a good website that lays out my options (macvidcards.com). I'm just wondering if I were to purchase a NVIDIA GTX 570, or a NVIDIA GT 680, or a NVIDIA GTX 980 for example, would it work on the Mac Pro and a Windows system? Or do I need to buy a special version that is compatible with Mac? If I purchase a NVIDIA GTX 570 from Amazon, will it be compatible with a 2009 Mac Pro, or do I need to purchase instead a special Mac version?

From a consumption standpoint the difference is minimal compared to the jump from incandescent. If you are going to be withing 4 feet of the bulb I would consider the risk of uv damage from cfl, and there's also the mercury risk if you break the bulb, but otherwise it doesn't matter much. You can be kept awake by the blue spectrum in both cfl and led, so which particular model you pick is more important.

God bless you my beautiful friend. I had uBlock Origin installed but never took the effort to learn how to use it.

I've got the whole recommended and trending section hidden now on YouTube. But will the content still load up when I open youtube dot com? If so, is it possible to prevent that trash from downloading altogether to speed up the loading of the site? I have a slow and limited Internet connection, 20KB/s right now.
>>
>>55870329
You overdid it, you were supposed only to select the recommended section.
If you wanna revert it to go to settings>My filters>Delete whatever you filtered wrong.

Why not dont you just make a account and use
Youtube.com/Subscriptions instead the youtube main page?

And yes, but since its too small it doesnt matter if you block it, even for your current internet speed.

I'm not sure how to disable just the trash on the front page but not the search results. Blocking the recommended videos, the other stuff still remain. Blocking them individually, more loads up.

I don't want to create a YouTube account because I am concerned about privacy. Also, I want it to be just as simple as typing youtube dot com, and not the added forwardslash and subscriptions.

Because when you work repairing PCs you usually have some free time and why not?
You usually learn with experience, when stuff breaks and you look how repair it yourself even if it means fucking it up more, so when it happens again you know what do right away.

Most stuff here are problems everyone frequently have anyway.

ever since kickass went down i have been looking for a good torrent site. everything i find tells me to use a vpn.i look up how to vpn on google and i find tutorials on how to connect to one. but i am wanting to make one for myself.
the hardware i listed... i gave that info because i have heard that it can be done (no probably not with a cucking xbox 360 but hey couldnt hurt to mention it right? yea i figured i was wrong it probably hurt alot. like some guy showing up with a bowl of spaghetti and his mom driving the car instead of flowers and his own car, for a first date.)

Ok, you are mixing up 2 different ideas. You could make a vpn for yourself, that existed only on your devices both in your home and other places, like on your cell phone. That would reinforce your wireless security so that if somebody cracked your password they couldn't steal your information. But it would do nothing for your torrent privacy. That would require somebody ELSE to make the VPN, or at least a vps somewhere in the world to host it. If you make the vpn at home you still need another place to have the internet connection pop out that isn't associated with you.

I wrote a program that will send multiple unique requests asychronously to a REST api for account registration. The problem I am coming into now is wanting at least some kind of anonymity through (ideally) each request, though I could settle for less. Different IP addresses on each account would be the end goal, but a balance of speed, anonymity, and amount of registrations is important.

The idea I have in my head right now is utilizing TOR, having multiple instances running on different ports, and switching exit nodes on X amount of successful registrations for each running connection.

My question: Is this how others would do this or is there a better way that I'm not aware of?

>>55873225
Do you want to watch movies on 5x fast forward? It doesn't matter for shit how fast your HDD is for watching video. The only lag you get is at the beginning while it spins up. You stick biggass files on slowass HDDs and stick the things that actually benifit from reduced read times on the ssd. This is solid state 101.
>>
>>55872964
>but right now they have the highest failure rate according to >backblaze

highest failure rate for select models under extreme test conditions, those select models being the 2tb wd red model, wd reds being rebranded greens which have better firmware for nas services (no caching which can affect raid severely, less head parking)

backblaze themselves don't consider their statistics to be all that reliable, they're especially not reliable when you look at wd red's shitty failure rate on backblaze and apply it to their whole line

it's not even all wd reds that are unreliable either, it's a particular 2tb model with a sample size of 133 that was getting >10% failure rates, the rest of the wd reds backblaze had were under ~6.5% which is about par for the course, and as far as 133 drives go it's absolutely nothing, backblaze had 1.5k other wd reds in higher sizes, 22k~ hgst drives and 33k of a single segate model on their statistics

>>55873027
>but I'm trying to get something to replace them both.
>I'm looking for 5+TB around $200-250 (including sales). Is that just looking for failures?

if you can't afford decent enterprise drives buy whatever has the longest warranty and backup your data, for me in the UK wd blacks had the longest warranty of 5 years with every other consumer drive only offering around 3 years

otherwise just get the cheapest and backup your data anyway

segate, toshiba, hitachi and wd all make 5/6tb drives for around $200-220 ish (I have no idea what your tax rate is), segate and toshiba offering a 6tb drive under $250, use pcpartpicker.com and go crazy

Search for recommended vpn lists. New ones come out every year. Then pick the cheapest thing on the list. For torrenting pretty much any service will work, as long as they say they are down with torrenting.
>>
>>55873201
>trying to get a hard drive fast enough to make up for the lack of an ssd
>>55873316
>and stick the things that actually benifit from reduced read times on the ssd

even the cheapest 5400rpm drives can achieve >100-150MB/s and while cheap ssds have been >250-500MB/s for a long time now 100-150MB/s is still fast enough that you very likely won't run into an issue with it

you don't buy ssds for the data throughput though, you buy them for the lack of seek times allowing insanely fast random access as well as multiple read/writes not affecting throughput which makes a huge difference when loading an operating system or a game map (i.e., loading lots of small things simultaneously) and less so for reading/writing sequential data

that is ssds 101

vchost.exe is a system process that hosts multiple Windows services in the Windows NT family of operating systems. Svchost is essential in the implementation of so-called shared service processes, where a number of services can share a process in order to reduce resource consumption. Grouping multiple services into a single process conserves computing resources, and this consideration was of particular concern to NT designers because creating Windows processes takes more time and consumes more memory than in other operating systems, e.g. in the Unix family. However, if one of the services causes an unhandled exception, the entire process may crash. In addition, identifying component services can be more difficult for end users. Problems with various hosted services, particularly with Windows Update, get reported by users as involving svchost.

there is no such thing as future proof your hardware will expire eventually, accept that. THat being said intels preformance year over year is marginal so a nice i5 or i7 will last you a while, and back when sli/crossfire wasnt a joke you could just buy the lower end of the latestgen and then buy it a again in the future when its cheap and get some good performance. but nowadays you should go for the card where your paying the least premium for performance, hence all the amd-tards. radeon graphics make more sense in that instance but they run hot and therefore are prone to failure, so you can run the risk and at least 70-80% youll come out on top or you can up it 100 bucks and go for nvidia. take that as you will and then just get the best card your budget will allow, but dont get a fucking titan or its amd counterpart.

Is your connection capped? Just start the update and after it's done downloading it will ask for confirmation. Cancel it and everything else should work.

Hella easy bro-

The easiest way is to use GWX Control Panel:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/gwx_control_panel.html

If you would rather block the update manually through windows instead, you can download and install update 3065987 on Windows 7, or 3065988 on Windows 8. Then save-

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"DisableOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\GWX]
"DisableGWX"=dword:00000001

-to a text document on your desktop named DisableOSUpgrade.reg and run it as administrator.

Go somewhere with a stable internet connection and a Windows PC. Bring a flash drive. Download the update at the following link. It took my PC two days to run it, but it fixed my issues.

Also the update checker isn't taking forever cause you have slow internet, it's slow because windows 7 update is hella broken. Make sure

support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3102810
and
support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3138612
are installed and maybe throw in 3172605 although it can sometimes fuck with blutooth. There's also a convenience rollup

http://www.howtogeek.com/255435/how-to-update-windows-7-all-at-once-with-microsofts-convenience-rollup/

which is kind of like a funky service pack 3. Whatever you do you're still probably going to have to wait a few hours for that first 'checking for updates' to stop.

Try Prime Now if you're a prime member and it's active in your area, prices for that sort of thing can be surprisingly reasonable and free 2 hour shipping. Can get a 2-liter of most stuff for $1.49 for example that I checked. Only annoying thing is you are required to order at least $20 to make it worth sending a guy out to deliver it to you, and they do expect a tip, but otherwise it's pretty hassle-free, used it to send supplies to my brother before when he was in a bad way and I was out of town and he needed stuff to feed his kids.

Update repair tool

Grand Master fixit
http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683

They'll usually fix any problem that isn't a missing update or a couple hours of wait time. You might also run sfc /scannow from an administrative command line in case you have some fucked up system files

It would probably work out alright, I'm just a little hesitant to recommend sub-500w with a proper gpu. The 1070 is a big boy even though they've improved power efficiency. Why not give yourself a little more leg room? I'd take extra wattage over improved efficiency at that margin

Perhaps the heavy artillery will have to wait. I'm trying to run the standalone installers on the 3 updates you have me KB3102810, KB3138612, and KB3172605. Regular windows installer is running again, but I want to wait on running the updater itself until I verify whether or not I can run the standalone installers. (tried to run the installers a while ago, but they had some sort of error that kept coming up, so I restarted my pc to see if that would fix it)

>>
>>55874719
You don't want the main windows update running while you are attempting to run stand alone installers. Run the first tool. It will clean the slate and you can go immediately into installing those updates. Also if it spits out an error code at the end you can try googling that for specific problems, but it's usually not important. Also do the sfc /scannow. It won't fuck anything up and it might save you a lot of time. The second tool is more like the nuclear option, and it has 2 levels of power depending on whether you check the box for full whammy.

I was trying to run the manual installers but they always opened windows update on the task manager. I tried running the manual update again and it still wasn't working. So I looked at the task manager and killed the svchost process that was taking a shitload of resources and it did the trick. The manual updates are installing as we speak.

Glad the updates are moving along. Your picrelated is saying that some of your system files are corrupted. You want to fix that because it might be the cause of a lot of your problems. You can try running sfc from safe mode. If that doesn't work there's the 'system update readiness tool' which is like 500mb but makes sure you have important updates in order and can potentially repair files. You can also manually replace the broken files
