What are downs of a Samsung S7?

- Touchjizz
- Knox

Other than that, I cannot think of any?

I need a smartphone which I can root, and then proceed with downloading 3rd party software (not google store) on it and using it.

I also want to cut of the spying activities of all the apps, but still use it.
>>
>>55811402
>I need a smartphone which I can root, and then proceed with downloading 3rd party software (not google store) on it and using it.

Pretty much every phone can do that. But samsung phones specifically are harder to root because of knox and how locked down they are.

touchwiz aside, it's a good phone. absolutely over priced, annoyingly locked down, but a good phone. there are other options if those are your main goals.

That's why I'm concerned. HTC 10 is overpriced, and I'm not sure if they have OP3s..
>>
>>55811498
htc 10 is 599 on their own website right now. brand new s7 would be somewhere around the 650 range. i would go with the htc 10 if i were you.
>>
>>55811416
>>55811477

So, there is only pretty much the OP3 which you can root and do all kind of stuff without losing your guarantee.

Too bad it's huge, and has an average at best screen.

Axon7 meme, once available here will also cost 450€.

The S7 right now is available for 499€.

Now I just somehow need to know, whether in the future there will be a way to root the phone without triggering Knox.

At the moment, there is absolutely no method to do it.
>>
Is there even a market for phones that cost $150 dollars? My Droid Turbo's screen just died, and the deductible is $150.

>>
>>55811640
just check ebay for wherever you live. i know that the global variant of the phone goes for cheaper than it normally does on htc's own site. if you buy new from a seller on ebay, you still get that uh oh protection for a year regardless.

just be smart about it.

>Now I just somehow need to know, whether in the future there will be a way to root the phone without triggering Knox.

hahahaha no.
>>
>>55811669
there are plenty of phones going for around that cheap, anon. there's even one listed in OP.

Any drawbacks to the oneplus 3?

I was thinking of buying one, but the price difference between that and the S7 (for me) is only like 70 bucks. However I never bought a chink phone so it scares me

what I like from Oneplus 3
-price
-doesnt have touchjizz
-double sim (I have to different sims for when I travel to my home country)
-usb type c

what prefer from the S7
-design
-waterproof
-screen I guess, but I don't really see the point of going over 1080p on a phone, and both are supposed to be oled

What do you think I should choose /g/? Are there any other options worth considering?

hardware failure 24 hours in. rear camera and flashlight just completely failed to the point where android didn't even know there was one attatched, as the option for it completely disappeared inside the rom. factory reset didn't help. they offered a replacement, i said nah.

and now i have the moto x pure for 250. saved 100 dollars and gained a micro sd card. all in all pretty good date with destiny.

Even if not, you'll be having issues with it.

>touchscreen
sometimes doesn't register your touches, escpecially when the screen is turned off - doubletap to wake and knock-code doesn't work at all, very often)
>charging
at some point the phone just decides that it will charge very slowly, forever
>notification LED
wrong color lots of times, sometimes blinks for no reason, sometimes it doesn't when it should
>random overheating
and I don't mean gaming, where it's quite normal or, let's say, acceptable. G4 gets really warm just by browsing the internet or using messaging app.
>lots of minor software bugs
Too many of them to remember. I had exactly same feelings as in my previous phone with CM on it - feeling of unfinished product

Don't buy it. You're wasting your money. As long as the camera (it's great, really) isn't your top and #1 priority for the price, go for something else.

Currently torn up between these 3 choices, help me decide /g/:

>Buy Redmi note 3 pro now, buy next years flagship (nexus) phone

Not sure if i will get LTE coverage since 800hz is not supported, it does support the two other LTE band of my provider tho.

>Buy ZTE Axon 7, buy new flagship in 2 years
Same problem, only 2 bands supported, not sure if it will be €400 or more expensive, like usual in Belgium (cheapest GS7 costs ~ 670$, iphone 6s 16 GB ~ 715$)

> Buy the new nexus flagship this year
Will probably be rather expensive since HTC makes them, they will make the HTC10 obsolete if the nexus phone is much cheaper. Also afraid to miss out with new SOC's just around the corner. If only they would release their phones in Q1.

what would you advise /g/, considering i find these things important:

1) Battery life (replaceable is a real plus)
2) Good performance for regular tasks (browsing, youtube, texting etc)
3) good screen quality
4) durable (so no glass)
5) quick charge would be nice
5) least important: design, camera, usb c, microsd is not important as long as i have 64gb+ storage.

>>
>>55814429

Tell me about it, HTC 10 sold out at all local retailers in my vicinity, could only find one silver 32GB version in stock at dicksmith. Everything else is sold out everywhere unless I go to bum fuck nowhere or order online and wait.

Meanwhile s7 edge is in stock fucking everywhere.

Can't be fucked waiting for delivery online as I need to replace my broken phone quickly this weekend. I always grab a Black or Grey phone since that color goes with everything, but if silver is all I can find in stock then so be it.

Frankly if S7 edge had an equivalent AMP and DAC then I would have considered it. I don't know how the S7 edge build quality compares, it seems flimsier.

proximus, almost all providers over here support:

well, guess i'll just have to wait for the new nexus phone then.

Any cheap (around €100) chinkphones that do support band 20 that will last me till april (new flagship releases) and that will perform better than my galaxy s3? It could die any moment now (random reboots, lines in the screen, battery (1 y old) needs to be charged at least twice a day, slow as fuck to start apps). So i'm really in for an upgrade. But i would like to wait to see if the new SOC's bring better battery life.

I went to the store today to check out some phones and that OS on Samsungs is really silly for some reason, unlike Sony's and full Android.
HOWEVER, for bigger-phone choice I think Samsung Note 4-5 phones are really something. Design, display, functionality...its a really good phone by all means.

Smaller phone choice: iPhone SE

Overall phone choice: STILL Samsung Galaxy S7 if you don't mind the OS, Nexus 6p, Sony Xperia Z5, even HTC 10 if you don't mind ugly desig.

There's this cheaper version Sony Xperia X which as I've heard has lower specs, HOWEVER it doesn't seem to be a bad choice for that price range and if you're looking for a phone for usual stuff, it's not bad.
>>
>>55815016
How important is LTE for you anyway? RN3P supports both 3G bands 900MHz, 2100MHz on Proximus. so you could use that until the next Nexus.

Otherwise it's all MTK6735/6753 variants of which the K6000 Pro or Ulefone Power are probably the best.

thank you i am about to buy a new phone tomorrow. Aside from camera and stuff i also want to know if the S7 can be customized /g/ style you know with all the tech apps ,rooting etc. no hurry i am fine with the phone as it is for like a few months first..
>>
So rooting the Blu R1 means you can't get OTAs obviously. But that means the band12 support won't come either. Is there any reason we can't get band12 from a custom rom?
>>
>>55815102
This is where things get a little tricky. The US variant of the S7 houses a snapdragon, with a locked bootloader. It's a pain in the ass to deal with those, therefore if you're in the states, don't expect shit.
However, if you're living anywhere else, the exynos isn't locked and development is already on its way http://www.xda-developers.com/first-booting-build-of-cyanogenmod-13-shown-off-on-exynos-based-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge/
But Exynos are notoriously hard to develop for so you'll be waiting quite some time.

The G5 definitely isn't better in that regard. If rooting, flashing, etc. is very important to you, definitely get the upcoming Nexus, the Nexus 6P, or OnePlus 3.

The Nexus and OnePlus both should be selling in your area. I know the 6P has a 128gb model for like S$750 (at mobyshop I think), and the OP3 should be going for around S$649 (at lazada). I don't know if you use either of those stores though!

don't bother with that battery nonsense. let it run down, don't let it run down, charge it for hours, charge it for twenty minutes, who cares? I doubt it makes a big enough difference to justify the hassle.

on a slightly related note, my m8 just dies whenever I hit 5% and I don't know why. to add insult to injury, the phone always loses some app data whenever it shuts down due to insufficient battery. I can reboot it myself just fine, but when the battery dies, there's always SOMETHING missing. one time I was signed out of the youtube app, one time I lost my klwp theme, one time I even lost my neko atsume data ;_;

>>55822246
Honestly what is wrong with s7 edge?

At worst the tactile button in the middle wears out over time. And has some useful features that could come handy in daily use like being water resistant.

If edge were not overpriced compared to HTC 10 and had DAC/AMP that was on par I would have easily considered it.

Slightly better back facing camera, wireless charging, and water resistance is not worth 200 AUD more.

Can't see any obvious flaws beyond that unless its build quality is flimsy.
>>
>>55821961
MIUI is pretty cute anyway so I might just roll with this. Battery life seems insane, only 50% with 8h screen on + streaming from Twitch is insanely good.

Thank you for the confirmation.

If by sell you mean return then they have every right to refuse it if it's not the same as they sold it, software included. Why is a factory reset not enough for you?

>>55822581
Depends on the phone.
>>
Quick question, does the GPS on the Redmi Note 3 Pro work in the United States?
>>
>>55822984
Are you fucking serious? You do realise it's a GLOBAL positioning system? Do you think that everyone that travels abroad has to resort to paper maps?

Working fine. Played for 8 hours. Only took me down to 30% battery. Game is enjoyable now.
>>
Any sense in getting a new phone now, or should I wait for nougat and the next line of phones?
>>
Hey guys. I'm looking around for a new phone, and I'm running out of drive. My carrier kinda sucks for phone pickings.
Location: America
Carrier: Virgin mobile
Budget: $200
Features: Expandable memory, decent battery
Size: Literally doesn't matter.

>inb4 redmeme
It's an option, but I'm pretty against the whole importing from China thing.
>>
>>55823072
Well, since its a Chinese phone it might only have BDS, which only works China. After looking at some spec sheets, it has GPS, BDS and GLONASS.
>>
>>55823142
Don't worry. Redmi phones contain spyware, you do right to avoid them.
>>
im looking at the specs between a oneplus 3 and s7 edge

they're pretty much the same from what i can tell, except that the oneplus' battery lasts less
is this true?
>>
I did something really stupid using TWRP and now it can't mount /data and storage (probably got corrupted), how can I fix this?
It doesn't seem like it's bricked or anything, but I don't know what to do exactly.
I cannot wipe data or factory reset as the recovery tool cannot mount /data.

The phone model is the regular Samsung Galaxy S3 (I9300)
>>
If cost is not a factor because it is free (contest), is there any reason I would choose a different phone over the S7 edge?
>>
>>55823161
GPS, GLONASS, and BDS are three different services, the general term is satellite navigation and not GPS so I assumed you already knew it had GPS (because I also assumed you would research the basic specs before asking dumb questions).
>>
you guys think there's going to be a Nexus 5x price drop in EU sometime soon? it's so much cheaper in NA but I don't really follow the smartphone market at all. You'd think there'd be a drop sometime soon after the new models are fully unveiled and/or when they hit the stores?

>>55822834
its an HTC One M9. piece of shit.
>>
>>55823331
>cause i dont want them seeing all my deleted furry porn. obviously
Obviously, but again why don't you think a factory reset will be enough? Do you really think they're going to go through all the effort of trying to recover your shit? Unless you're already on some sort of watch list you have nothing to worry about (I'm not sure if you have had illegal shit on your phone or if you're genuinely embarrassed about your taste in porn).
>>
>>55823403
nah its genuinely furry. and i dunno man ive heard enough stories of techanons screwing around and looking at people's shit. just afraid worst case scenario is someone makes it known that im a huge faggot kek.
>>
>>55823553
That shit might happen (still very unlikely) if you happen to be a hot female and the tech sees you bring the phone in. In order to discover your stash they'd have to run recovery on every single phone that comes in, wasting time that should be spent wiping the phone (yeah, they're not going to assume that you did it), running a diagnostic, and then packing the phone up ready for resale.
>>
>>55823654
>hot grill
well we're safe there

i know im just being paranoid, but if i encrypt now and then do another factory reset will that encrypt the data from before my first factory reset?
you know, all the data that's still there just marked overrideable?
>>
Reporting back. My friend gave me his "broken" Note 3 - it wouldn't charge. I replaced the charging port and it charges like a champ.

Only bummer is it's the ATT variant, so I'm stuck with 4.X if I recall correctly. I haven't checked XDA yet. I'm also on Verizon and have a iPhone 6s, so it's a brick basically, but whatever.

Note 3 Snapdragon - which one am I grabbing? Why don't the Chinese or Curries explain this specifically?
>>
>>55823788
> will that encrypt the data from before my first factory reset?
No, because as far as the phone is concerned that data no longer exists (it may technically exist, at least in part, unless overwritten).
>>
>>55824035
yeah, that's what i figured.

now what if i download 16GB of pictures, and fill all those spots. would all trace of my old stuff be gone?
im not actually going to do this, just so i understand how data is written and deleted.
>>
Got a redmeme note 3 pro and flashed cm 13 on it. Everything works on it except the network is super unstable. It drops frequently and I no longer get 4G. I tried flashing the modem from the MIUI fastboot rom but didn't change anything.
Anyone have a similar issue/advice? I really don't want to go back to MIUI
>>
>>55823857
Flip that shit family. Make some bux and put it towards uncucking yourself out of verizon
>>
>>55821936
I never thought I'd be the one to say this but MiUI is actually pretty good. I'm honestly only afraid of ads suddenly appearing everywhere or my data being uploaded into chink severs.
>>
>>55824173
Any form of data that will fill the space will do, it has nowhere else to go other than to overwrite the old data and recovering that would be extremely difficult if not impossible (I do believe it is possible somehow under certain circumstances depending on the storage technology, but I could be mistaken).

I thought about the 5X, but I heard the battery is pretty shoddy. Being satisfied with my Nexus 4 I was thinking about the 5X and the 6P, but the 6P is too large, I will look up more reviews on the 5X, if the battery life is decent then that's probably what I will go for. It's got USB-C, easy to root, and band 12 support, which is everything else that I want.

Power bank would be a good idea. Get one from Anker. You can get a 3000mAh one from them for like $10
>>
Should I buy the HTC 10 now, or wait for the Marlin/Sailfish? The only real problems I see with the 10 are the screen size (I prefer a bit larger) and the thickness (I prefer a bit slimmer), but neither are a dealbreaker.
>>
>>55826059
Should have used dash charge :^)
But seriously, there's not much you can do about the heat besides leave it alone while charging or switch to a slow-charging cable.
>>
>>55826094
That's what I'll pretty much have to do. Axon 7 becomes unpleasant to use when it heats up and then you have to wait a while for it too cool off enough to work right. Phones overheating and throttling has always been an issue for me, especially in the summer and this just ruffles my johnnies.
>>
>>55826120
It shouldn't overheat while unplugged though, considering the SD820 is a lot more efficient. You can even use the phone without frying an egg unlike the 6P.
>>
>>55826129
Yeah, but it retains the heat for a while after the charge. that's the pain.

Funnily enough I was just looking at power banks as they were in my suggested box. Are Anker products good? I mean I see 4.7+ star reviews as an average with thousands of reviews so they can't be terrible.

>>
>>55827148

On paper? Yes. The Op3 is an amazing phone. Realistically? Probably not. Have heard nothing but complaints from people in regards to the OP series of stuff. My buddy had the OPO and OPX and they both had yellow screen issues, his OPO started having headphone problems etc. Customer support was unhelpful.

Where as the Nexus line, regardless of also being chink phones at least are backed by google. That and newegg and everyone really has had price drops lately on the 6P. $370 last I saw for the 32GB variant graphite 6P. $410 for the 64GB model.
>>

Well, I meant more in regards to the newer Nexus phones coming out around Oct. The OP3 on paper is great yes, but I'm looking to replace my phone with one that I won't have to upgrade 8 months later.

depends entirely on how big your music/animu folder is. or what you use your phone for.

my music library is pushing 50. and 64 never actually means 64. more like 58.
