I want a watch but I'm afraid the prescribed linear measurement of time will give me anxiety especially when taking psychedelics but also sober.

Not a meme, I'm serious.
I had a watch once and it was depressing to look at the time too often

I've been hunting everywhere for somewhere to buy the Orient Bambino v3 from (with white face/silver trim). But these watches are sold out everywhere!

I've checked Long Island Watch, Sky Watches, Watch Direct, Duty Free Island Watch and eBay. It's on Amazon, but the price is ridiculous!

Help me, /wt/!

I wouldn't bother with bamboonis when SARB033, 035 or 017 are available for only about 330

Afaik they get released in batches. So if those websites have a 'notify me when this watch becomes available' button, you may want to use it in this case.

Looks like the major ticks represent 4 hour groupings. But in that case it should say 24 on top and 6 (not 8) on the right and 12 and 18 in the other positions. The way it is now, it's clearly indicating that 8 is 1/2 in between 0 and 12.

But rotary doesn't make watches, their Chinese business partners do, and rotary sells them.
>>
>>55748385
it does say 6 on the right photo just looks wrong

the major ticks are every 5 and the 6 and the 18 are both halfway between two ticks

Round cases/movements are literally better, a square watch that's not absolute dogshit will cost more to own and maintain than a round one. Women generally don't care if their expensive watch is dogshit by design as long as it gets them social life point.

Crystals will be more expensive to manufacture or replace. Water sealing will be trickier. Manufacturer either has to develop/source a rectangular movement or put in a tiny round one with a huge spacer.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

It does. They should stop putting display backs in their lower end movements. 7s26 and 6r15 are really nothing to display. Display of craftsmanship on GS makes sense, on seiko 5? Not so much.

The lume is made with Tritium and used to glow automatically from the radiation, but I have yet to figure out how that was possible considering tritium is a gaseous isotope of hydrogen, and all modern watches have to enclose the tritium in tiny glass tubes.

Tritium lume.
>>
>>55757487
Well it could be bound in a hydrocarbon like plastic, but I don't see how that can work as it decays to helium-3 which is obviously going to behave differently chemically.
>>
>>55757487
Tritium paint is zinc sulfide infused with tritium. The radioactive properties of the tritium triggers the phosphor in the zinc sulfide causing the material to lume.

Well I mean specifically tritium paint being shitty compared to the vials.

They really need to use an isotope with closer to a 30-100 half life, but a safe one might not even exist.

Tritium is safe but only 12 years. Promethium-147 they used once was a minuscule <3 I believe. Promethium-145 is a nicer 17 years but probably isn't viable for mass production. Radium is a ridiculous 1600 and hazardous as it decays.

Strontium-90 was apparently used briefly but stopped due to health concerns. It has a nice 29 years, and is apparently less hazardous to the phosphor itself and your health unlike Radium, but would still require some control.

I'm looking for a simple brown or black leather strap in 22mm (maybe with a clasp but not sure) in the "I'm poor but not that much" price range (1 to 25€ I'd say, a bit more if I really like it) for my orient defender (current strap is a bit fucked up so it moves around slightly)

This is a great first "semi-serious" watch. One of the best things you can get for the price. However keep in mind that the strap is complete shit so you'll probably have to invest in a different one or a bracelet.
>>
>>55767554
I'd have to look for the email, but I think it was around $300 for a service of an accutron (assuming it doesn't need any replacement parts).
>>
>>55767814
It's quite popular around here, several people have bought one on massdrop already. If you like the design, the quality is definitely there.
If you don't already know about mechanical watches: no batteries, not as precise as a quartz watch (may need adjusting from time to time), will stop running if left unworn and unwound for a few days.
Also, it's a good idea to service a mechanical watch every 5 to 10 years if you want to keep it for a long time (and if it's expensive enough to warrant it, ie not a seiko 5)

Trouble with Invicta is that they expose too many people's insecurities. You have to translate:
For "It's vulgar", translate to "Waaaaa... it's too big for my weedy wrists"
For "It's cheap and nasty", translate to "Waaaaaa... I paid $6000 for my Rolex and am desperately fighting buyers remorse"
For "Overstated retail price", translate to "Waaaaa... I paid $6000 for my Rolex and am desperately fighting buyers remorse"

Wear it and enjoy it.

I have no trouble believing someone could own one and post on 4chins.

100k pateks and ultra rare vintages like milsubs I might be skeptical

Buy it "used" on a forum from an EU user. No import taxes, less than retail.

Bonus points if it's still under warranty.

This one looks great but $800 is too much.

There are Chinese and Korean watches under $200 with the Japanese Miyota 9015 movement.

Do not buy Chinese movements.

It screams 'I've been polished, I've been refinished, I should cost much less than a more authentic and unmolested vintage peice.'

We can talk about watches all day
>>

Not to mention I haven't seen another LM special with a red dial other than that particular piece.
>>
>>55766779
This is risky. If your order goes missing, you're hosed.

Rather, ask the seller to mark it "return from repair", list the price of the "repair" as something low, and insure it for the full value.

stopped by the Omega boutique in Manhattan and found this. I haven't heard of this model, obviously it's the white ceramic equivalent to the dark side of the moon.

I rather like it better than the black ceramic

sorry for the shit pic

Omega has many good watches, neither of those are among them.
>>
>>55766213
Also the Speedmaster is a 861 from the 70s, worth 3k at least. I'll post some other watches tomorrow if anyone's interested. I also have a IWC Engineer from 1952, a Longines COSD WWII Paratroopers watch and a 1940s A. Lange & Söhne B-Uhr and some other stuff.

Where in Manhattan is it? I fucking hate that cesspit but if they give out free catalogs it might be worth the train ride.

By the way, has anyone tried getting catalogs from the OmegaUSA, SeikoUSA etc. websites?

Oh shit that's where I took my exam. I tend to want to get the fuck out of manhattan whenever I'm there, so I never look around. Oh well.
I'm so fucking glad I transferred schools. Going to the city everyday was mentally draining

It was an hour and 15mins if I was lucky and didn't have to wait for trains.
The fucking N train is the absolute worst in the morning. Fucking chinks going to canal street.

went to the Omega boutique, went to Cartier but it was closed, but I did see someone wearing a tank on the train.

the Cartier looked miles better finished than any of the brand new Omegas
