Tuning fork watches are pretty cool. I kinda regret selling my f300 Constellation. It's hard to find one in good condition let alone a Megasonic.

Tell me about it. Megasonics in this case style almost never come up for sale. One of the recent ones I've seen had the index rotor broken off from the tuning fork. Tragic really. There's another one similar to mine (albeit less clean) up on ebay right now for about 1200 syrupdollars more than I paid.

Any recommendations for a watch that you would wear to a white collar job interview?
>>
>>55713206
From what I got after googling white collar job, at work you can wear whatever, at the interview I'd say something standart, nothing too extraordinary, even a simple looking diver would fit I guess. Leather or metal strap/bracelet only
>>
>>55713206
More or less as >>55713257 said.

It all depends on the budget and your wrist size really. Seiko's offerings are bretty good on this matter. (SARB,SARX, SDGM series)
>>
>>55713206
Anything that fits under a cuff really.

But if you really want to: a watch with white or cream dial, simple, like 3 hands with or without date. Leather strap that matches shoes and belt.

Pic related, sarb sports watch. It's not full on formal wear dress watch, but interviews aren't full on formal.

I'm a NEET that watches the watches threads, and I would like to buy a temp starter until my skillz needed for another job that pays big and can get something really nice (thinking of getting a Nomos later and researching vintage stuff more - I like vintage fountain pens and razors and will probably prefer a vintage watch collection later).

So, I was thinking something simple with just decent materials for the price. Are either of these ok? Thoughts?

>>55715097
You could just get something like a SGG713P1, which both comes with a bracelet and isn't some kikestarter based company. Plenty of vintage options to start with.

Or you know, get a Seiko 5 as per most other newfags that come here.
>>
>>55715097
Kickstarter watches are all shit made by the same 3 Chinese companies from the Guangzhou/Hong kong area and overpriced to sell. Theyre a dimr a dozen and th attrition of the brands in 10 years will be 90℅ because at the end of the day none of them got the Daniel Wellington business model down: create hype over nothing, sell worthless products at 1300℅ markup, reinvest profits into social media marketing to normie, rinse repeat. Can't really be done with mechanicals because they're not as cheap or popular, not recognizable to normies, and there's far too much competition.

The only company to do this successfully has been Autodromo whose marketing is so good they can sell obviously Chinese made Motors powered or even quartz watches for for $600-1000 all based on marketing and muh classic designs/vaguely Italian sounding name. And nothing else. They have beat all the competition based on time and probably the purchase of hype via friendships with authors of popular watch blogs alone.

Goddamn I hate Kickstarter and the watch blogosphere. I hate to admit it because the Seiko shitposting here is too damn high but /wt/ is legitimately a superior resource to msot. Ironically the only other good one is Replica Watch Info (yes, not just for fakes) because its users generally hate the hipster pastel shaded blogs as much as the rest of us and want deals without marketing hype.

Uh, no.

-10 C: no problems, just put on more clothes. Your cell phone might die of it was Nokia.
-20 C: still no probs: just put on more clothes and be careful. Nature has no mercy.
-30 C: this is painful, you don't want to be outdoors. Use lots of winter clothing, beware of sweating, adjust continuously. We are approaching dangerous territory. Many cell phones will die. Military radio gear is still fine
-40 C: dangerous but bearable as long as you are careful. Foreign soldiers on winter training underestimate the dangers, a few were sent home, frozen solid, no fridge needed for preservation. Only the careless and ignorants will even think of exposing themselves. No dump. Whatsoever.
-50 C: very dangerous, avoid going out. Foreign pseudoheroes will quickly be in dire need of rescue, seriously.

Hello /wt/, first time poster.

My first and only real watch that I own is a Seiko SKX007K and since it looks like I can afford a new watch soon I'm asking you guys for advice.

I'd like a more dressy watch, considering the only watch I have is a diver.
White dial preferred but I'm open for suggestions.
Budget: about 400-500€, I'm kinda flexible.

So far I've been looking at the Tissot Visodate and the Hamilton Khaki.

Pic related, my current watch (with the image stolen from google).

Tisell has a good number of "homages" with white dials. http://shop2.tisellkr.cafe24.com/

They're basically replicas (can you actually find any design differences between the tisel and a nomos or tisel and a rolex?) but the quality is decent and they use miyota movements which are decent. They represent a great value in classic designs.

SARB035, I was going to pull the trigger but my wrists are huge. If you have around 7in or less wrists do it.

I have a Black Tissot Automatic III, look into it, the face has texture to it and it works well with any dress clothes. Usually you can get it for around $300usd

On another note anyone else hit the wall? Decide they are done buying watches until they grab a grail or semi-grail? I am going to save up for a Black Bay. Not buying anything until then

Well I was hoping to steal it once in awhile. Girls wear big watches these days, and that watch is not inherently masculine (especially the cute moon thing on the second hand) other than the size. I was also considering pic related (37mm). While she liked both, she doesn't trust herself to not lose it (has a history of losing hand/wrist jewelry).

Pretty much only one watch fits those constraints... SKX007. If you increase your budget by a hundred $ or two you'll get tons more options, like Alpinist or pic related.

There is no swiss or japenese mechanical chronograph for under 1000$ currently in production

also being that a chronograph is one of the most difficult complications to make (I have read, but China still shits them out for 200$ without computer aided design), I don't know if I would trust a cheap mechanical chrono
>>
>>55729075
the second hand functions as a power reserve indicator, I assume. you press the button and the second hand moves to a position on the dial relative to the remaininggpower in the battery/capacitor, then hopefully goes back to where it was plus the amount of seconds it shows the power
>>
>>55729392
This is how it works on my kinetic. The amount the second hand moves from its starting position shows how much power is left. Halfway around the dial indicaties full power. The second hand then stops until Time has cought up with how far it moved.

Go for a 20mm strap. It can sometimes be a bit of a pain getting them on and off depending on how stiff the leather is but it's totally doable and looks better than have any kind of gap.

Where is the best place to buy a high end watch these days? I'm in Canada, used to get watches really cheap in Hong Kong but now the demand from the Chinese have driven up prices across the board.

Willing to do some travelling to save some money, buying a 20-30k watch, I could end up saving thousands. Have my mind set on a Patek Calatrava or a AP 15400 or 15202.
>>
So this place sells watches now:
https://plamoya.com

I'm not sure how justified their prices are, but they have shit tonnes of sale items all the time, so maybe you can find a bargain.

Prices are OK most of the time, shipping is a pain in the wallet.
I got a lord quartz, a king quartz and that 5606 above for about $150 shipped which is less than i would pay for either of those quartz watches in my country, or probably even on ebay.
Plus the Japanese have more of the rarer ones

This part is where I'm in doubt... I mean 39 quids for a strap?
>>
>>55743066
If you have bigger wrists then 42 is the one for you, if average/smaller I'd stick to 16570. The new one has a much nicer bracelet but that's really the only thing I liked about it. I feel they haven't done a great job making it bigger - the proportions aren't brilliant imo. But of course you gotta try both on your wrist to see what works best for you.

>>
>>55744032
I absolutely love that Zenith.

>>55744116
Personally I'd buy a Damasko or Sinn over an IWC Mark pilot's watch.
>>
>>55744149

It is. Get yourself a quality strap/bracelet removing tool and you're all set.

>>55744153

I personally see very little difference between them given they're all eta based. Same essence different cases. Should be similar in terms of quality as well
>>
>>55744116
>>55744171
What is the consensus on IWC anyways, is it basically Breitling but not as gaudy? I.e. banking on heritage rather than quality to justify it's price point?
Sinn and Damasko are much more honest watches, offering their own unique technologies (inert gas filled, diapal, tegiment/ice hardened, copper-sulfite capsules, etc.) and design which provides value despite the movements (btw Damasko have models with in house movements), at 2/3 or lower prices.
>>
>>5574444
IWC have a rich and vibrant history however their line up has a lot of eta pseudo-horology which isn't doing them much favours. Rather like Girard Perregaux.

I wouldn't be so quick to knock Breitling. I've had a Superocean 42 for a few days and I really couldn't knock the quality, the thing felt just as solid as the Sub. And given the fact it can be bought for less than 3k I'd consider it good value. I can't say I'm a big fan of their oversized shit but that was their style for a while - they're for flashy blokes who want to make a statement.

Yeah let's do strap changing while in full dive gear. If it's a dive tool it can't have a leather strap, if it's an aesthetical choice there's absolutely no need for rating beyond skin diver nor functionalities like huge bezel or crown. I can accept and kind of even want a supercompressor, 60-70s divers in general, AP ROO Diver or non-diver series Panerai.
