What is a shell extensions?

I keep reading 7zip has shell extension, pdf reader got it for converting..

is it the fact that you can write in to cmd command and it works everywhere?
>>
>>55746338
>ctrl alt canc
what
>>
>>55746369
It means you can type a command line prompt like
C:/pdfconverter.exe -inputfile "C:\file1.pdf" -outputfile "C:\file2.pdf"

so you don't have to deal with a GUI.

This is useful if you need to do it programmatically or across many machines.
>>
>>55746338
well, something freezes then.. check running processes, if something takes 100% cpu, like you would with htop

reinstall system is the best way still, no dicking around and you know in 1 hour you are done..

if shit continues then its hardware, if you get blue screen you can check blue screen dumps for details whats causing it

I always do HD test with hdtune before touching a PC, saves time when hdd is fucked and you be doing this all for nothing
>>
>>55746371
Sorry, i meant ctr alt del. In some countries it's del is named canc.

I have VS 2013 community. In order to develop for android I've understood that you need xamarin, which apparently comes with VS if you tick the box for it. I didn't do that when installing VS, so do I need to reinstall the entire thing now?

I want to buy a new video card. For 300 Euro i can get the 1060 or the 480. However a retailer listed a new msi 980 for the same amount of money. Should i get the 980 now or wait for nice 480/1060 custom cards?

>>
>>55746439
of course not 980

>>
>>55746444
Anywhere from like 2GB to 18GB, depending on how many boxes you tick.

You should have already bought it long ago. I paid over $500 for an HP Compaq a few years ago, granted, but it was a Core 2 Duo and had nothing that made it worth that much. Now you can get it for $50.

>>55746040
Tabs, always. Professional and clean. Also, the proper way to do it. One space instead of four if using spaces instead.

>>55746154
He won't actually do it. If he does, he won't get far.

>>55746159

>>55746183
Sabrent, but it literally does not matter. At all.

>>55746190
Arch, Gentoo, or a special version of Ubuntu. Chrome OS is the best bet, but that's annoying to deal with getting and installing, in my opinion unless things changed.

>>55746439
I'd wait in general. Both sides are fucky right now and I think you'll get a better value later on. However, the 980 is 'better', but the 480 would be the better overall value but comes with the headache of AMD. I assume you're on Windows and there's no beating Nvidia on Windows right now. 1060 might be a better bet if you're not that hardcore into gaming and just want a solid video card.

>980 for power
>1060 for overall goodness
>480 for best value

Are you tabs guy retarded?

there is one rule, and that is dont mix spaces and tabs, correct?

Well with spaces you have free reign to indent your code however you hell please
not being on every step of the way forced in to strange positions by tabs, or trying to fix them by mixing spaces and tabs.

almost every editor has this thing where tabs equal spaces, so you press tab, but 4 spaces are written, or whatever number you set.

So objectively, unequivocally, spaces are better and tabs offer not a single benefit

>>55746649
>less keypresses :^)
nope, as I wrote you use the tab key to make 4 space, you press tab key, and it might seems like tab character was entered in to editor, but in reality spaces were put instead

The spaces proponents never actually argued for retarded approach of pressing spacebar 4/8/12/... times

I got a problem, so my main mouse died and refuses to work at all. So I am using an old mouse I haven't used ages ago, A4tech X7 XL-740K(the laser one). So my guess was it might need the "software" to work properly. Looking upon their homepage I do find "drivers" and so on. Should I

Wait for RX 470

At the moment Im running the pc with no gpu

I dont want to spend much but memecard ver 3.5 has pretty good performance on dx 11 (until the memory limit wich is pretty high) on the other hand rx has async, terribly implemented in games so far, like ~0% of the games uses it and has weaker performance but newer and will probably supported for longer

Anyway another question bugged me yesterday

How do I connect a multi monitor setup on a multi gpu system? One cable from a gpu to a monitor or connect every monitor to every gpu?

Thanks

Try the Reaper demo. After 30 days all it adds is a launch-only nag screen and IIRC is still fully-featured.

It's not the greatest (still usable tho) if you want mostly to sequence in MIDI, but since you mentioned Pro Tools, you might as well be looking to work with recorded audio.

•RAM
[•]G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series, F4-3000C15D-16GVRB, DDR4 3000MHz
[#]Kingmax 8GB DDR4 2133MHz
I would like to note that G.Skill is a 2x 8GB Kit for dual channel and the Kingmax is just an ordinary non kit so I would need to get two.

I was hoping to find an EDC thread to ask this but fuck it, I'll try here.

I have 2 cheap pocket knives I use for work. One is the Kershaw Leek and the other is an Ontario RAT which I just got. The Leek goes dull fairly often due to heavy use and I sharpen it back up with a diamond coated 600 grit sharpener. The problem is that I can't ever get it back to a razor's edge using it.

What whetstone or whetstones would I need to get it to be sharp enough to at least shave hair of my arm like when it was new?

One of the most important parts but it depends on what are you build along with a good PSU.

What I'm meaning on important is quality build, will you use the technology on the mobo, compatibility, Overclocking capabilities, Chipset exc.
>>
>>55751142
Unless you plan on doing some super overclocking a motherboard doesn't really matter.
Just make sure you get one that meets your need i.e. enough pcie slots, sli support, m.2. support, built in wife, etc.
Personally I got a cheap $40 z97 motherboard from msi and while it doesn't have the best overclocking capabilities its still a nice board

Also avoid Asrock

100% means to an end
you can have expensive or cheap, they break anyway
RMA stats put all brands under 3% overall

if you are not overclocking dont try to put too much emphasiz on the mobo, dont spend $140, spend $70, buy nice B chipset, microATX, in to nice microATX case

if overclocking, you might want to spend some, looking for something better

It doesn't offer proper highlighting, though. I know I could draw a rectangle with an colored edges around the area I want, but it's not optimal. And GIMP seems like an overkill too.

Yea assuming it can support the new requirements. Look up the amount of Amps for the rails and what your cpu and gpu needs.
I'm using an old 2006 corsair hx 520w with 6600k and a 280x.
>>

for highlighting, not outlining, you need transparency. transparency may seem simple to us but is actually quite complex within a program and only decently powerful tools can haedue it properly.

in paint you could make a selection and use the bucket tool.

The power button on my HTC One M9 is stuck pressed down, so it takes fiddling with it to get the screen on, whenever I press the home button a screenshot is taken, and powering off messages pop up constantly. I didn't drop it or get it wet, this started out of nowhere. I've had this phone for over a year however, so I can't use the warranty to get a new phone. Is there a way to fix this without opening up the phone or sending it for repairs? Should I just get a new phone?

if you have any tools then try to fix it yourself, if your attached to the phone take it somewhere and have a guy look at it and give you a quote, if your a lazy fuck and have the cash just get a new phone.

Hi, I recently built my first PC and it's a beast.

Now, one thing I've noticed is that my GPU has been slightly too warm when idle.

Pic related.

Every other component has been nice and cool, but for some reason the GPU is very warm when idle.

I have a Define r4 case without any extra fans.

Is this normal? Should I get more fans? All I have are the default ones (1 in the front and 1 in the back, with 2 extra slots on top, 1 in front and 1 on the side of the case)

Some GPUs are designed to have the fans off at idle so it might be slightly warm, but it won't hurt anything
You can make custom fan profiles to have it running all the time if you really want

So yesterday my pc just bricked up as I was opening a tab in my browser, the screen became white vertical lines and I couldn't do anything so I just held the power button to shut it down. When I restarted, my monitor wasn't getting a video signal and from how fast my pc shut off from a press of the power button, it wasn't posting either but had all fans running. I'm at a loss right now because none of my components have been acting up. I did install the new amd drivers the day before however. I've reset the cmos by battery and by the jumper and attempted to boot without a few parts to find out if one was faulty.l also do not have an internal computer speaker at the moment so I'm really unsure about what's wrong. Any help?

Anyone using their android tablets to connect to their PCs via RDP?
I often need to do work when i'm on the move, the thing is that I need high precision, low latency and a possibility to use keyboard shortcuts.
Is RDP on Android via LTE really works, or is it just a gimmick?

I want a Hackintosh. I have El Capitan running in a virtual machine on Windows.

I have another hard drive connected. I want to install it onto that hard drive and be able to restart my physical computer and install it from that second hard drive over my Windows installation. From virtual to physical, basically.

I've looked around and it's been annoying to deal with. Nothing has helped. I've tried using the USB method, but instead using my hard drive partition as a 'USB', but it didn't boot or do anything. I assumed it was because it was connected through SATA. So, I used my SATA to USB converter as the drive is recognized as a USB device using it, but that didn't work either.

The only reason I can't do the USB method is because I don't have one with a high enough capacity. I don't understand why I can't use my hard drive anyways. Why can't I just install it to the drive from a virtual machine, restart, and have it work? Or... Install it to the drive and install a boot loader on my USB so that I can get into the installation and select the hard drive to install from, if that makes sense.

This is more difficult than it should be. Or at the very least, why can't I use as hard drive or a partition of it and make a USB out of it? What's the difference. It being through a SATA connection, I guess I could understand it not working, but I used a SATA to USB converter, but it still doesn't work. Fuck.

/networking/ question. Specifically Cisco but kind of applies to all.

for Port Channels, can you nest them?

Say if you have a port channel running at 8 physical links AKA the max # of links in a port channel, and another port channel running 8 in it, let's call them Po1 and Po2 -
Can you make a Po3 consisting of the Po1 and Po2 interfaces with 16 physical links since all a port channel is is an interface, or is there something that stops you from doing that like a safeguard or something?

I assume you would have to use up a lot more processing power so your throughput would probably actually end up dropping but could it in theory be done?

Also you can call a Port Channel a LAG if you're not a Cisco person.

What about VPC domains, will they allow this somehow?
>>
>>55754141
USB C is just the shape of the port, its just USB 3.1
It will only determine what type of cable you need to use.
