Is the battery life for the Z3C better with Marshmallow or Lollipop?

What I've read suggests downgrading from M to L might be possible and, if so, I'm thinking about doing it so I can then put on the slim L ROM from XDA onto it. The thought of having all the good parts of Sony's ROM and none of the bloat sounds nice.

With kitkat z3 had its best battery life. Lollipop made it dogshit and marshmallow half fix it but killed stamina mode. Sony has been updating stamina mode and battery life to work with marshmallow and it is possible z3 and the rest of the Xperias get a better battery life with Nougat.

>>55727280
I've heard about the upcoming update to the Z3 line will bring Stamina mode back. Anticipation of that is the reason I've stuck with Marshmallow so far. (It shipped to me with Lollipop so I never got to experience KK with it.

The battery life with MM has still been great for my needs (which are small - down to 20% after charging it seven days prior). Still want to root this thing and purge the bloat, but Stamina mode would at least be a nice compromise in the meantime.

Why does Google Play Services keep draining so much battery on my S7? It has ~64% battery usage (not 64% of the whole battery, just used) with the screen off. If I restart the phone it usually fixes it and has 0% battery usage but it always comes back a few days later

OP3 is faster and will most likely have better support when it comes to updates.

Moto X Pure is a good value, but it has yet to receive the most recent update released for Marshmallow and I doubt the folks at Lenovo are going to support it anymore.

Not a bad phone by any means (though battery life is mediocre), but keep in mind it has SD support where as the OP3 does not.
>>
>>55728635
I was also deciding between these two, but I ended up ordering a OP3 today.
Only thing holding me back was the no SD supprt, but I figured out I don't even use more than 64GB on my current phone.
OxygenOS was also a nice bonus from what I could see (coming from a long Samsung user).

>If requesting purchasing advice, please provide your country and what carrier you will be using it with, along with wanted features, budget and size.

Country: Romania
Carrier: Orange, but I don't want it carrier locked
Budget: €200-€400
Size: Small enough to fit in hand. Definitely no phablets

Looking for something with a great camera (since I prefer the comfort of not carrying around an extra gadget to take photos with) - and it's a huge bonus if it's good with night photos. I'm comfortable with it not having microSD slot, as long as it offers 32GB storage or more. 2 GB of RAM is more than enough because I'm an optimization freak, and I only play small games anyway and if it has good support from cm community it's even better.
Right now I'm looking at the Nexus 5x, Xiaomi Mi 4/5, OnePlus X/2. Most comparisons I've seen seem to just point me towards the 5x.
Are there other great options ? If not, when do you think prices for these phones will be optimal ? I could wait 2-3 more months before purchasing.

What has storage to do with RAM?
>>
>>55730177
I bought it last week and will get it tomorrow, but I feel like I should have researched a bit more. I lurked the forums and there seem to be a lot of small bugs and annoyances with the software.

There are complaints about
1. Bluetooth issues with many cars
2. Volume keys not working when screen is off
3. Missing notification when phone enters deep sleep (doze)
4. Youtube not playing 1080p60fps videos and defaults them to 480p max (apparently Google's fault?)
5. Battery drain

My main issue with this is that I use Bluetooth in my car extensively and also music playback with wired headphones, if I run into bug 1 or 2 the phone is going back, I'm not going to wait for a sw update, and maybe I'll buy it again when the issues are fixed.
>>
>>55726416
Shit I know how to fix that . It sounds crazy but place a piece of thick paper over the sensor next to the camera. It actually fucking works
>>
>>55730206

>>55730206
The OP3 seems like the more future proof phone because 6Gb of RAM will come in handy in the long run. The main issue with android is RAM, that's the reason why older phones become unusable. If you get the Memesung S7 for example, with newer versions of Android you WILL have issues because of low ram. Samsung phones are full of bloatware and "features" that naturally use up a lot of RAM. The S7 is already slower than the OP3 despite same-y hardware, that's because of the Samsung bloat. Also, if you owned Samsung phones in the past, you'll know that their phones are very good on release and then within a year they're unusable. The same applies for heavily customized phones like Sony, Huawei, HTC, etc. My current daily driver, a MotoG3 (1Gb of RAM version) feels noticeably snappier than my S4 despite being a lot less powerful hardware wise. Also the OP3 can be unlocked and rooted easily (and you won't void the warranty), even if OnePlus shits itself and stops releasing updates, you'll be able to rely on bored indiands from XDA and their beautiful custom kernels and roms. With Root you can install Xposed and mod your phone and customize it to a higher degree, or remove built in apps you don't use. If you get a Samsung, it's going to be much harder to mod due to KNOX and other bullshit.

TL;DR, I've been using Android since 1.6, for future proofness you need these 4 aspects
1. Amount of RAM
2. Clean OS
3. Moddability
4. Supportive manufacturer for stock updates

OP3 seems to have all of them, except they seem to be a bit slow on 4. Samsung has none.
>>
Anyone know if my phone isnt fully paid off if I can still switch the sim card to another phone if i continue paying it off?
It's a cheap ass phone but had a long contract and it's been really pissing me off lately and looking into getting a LG G4
I have Sprint as well
>>
>>55730270
Yes actually. Bored indians on XDA can only go so far when modding the stock firmware. When the bug is embedded deep into the system or even worse hardware related (forgot to mention here >>55730319, but there seems to be shitty sound quality when recording video as well) there's nothing they can do about it.

If you want to go on custom firmwares like CM or others, from my experience they're always extremely buggy. I've had all sorts of major bugs when using CM, such as the screen turning off indefinitely after a call forcing me to reboot, random reboots while browsing, notification led not working, worse camera quality, missing features (such as fm radio), Google Apps randomly crashing or not working properly, issues with USB OTG, glitchy graphics (misaligned icons, white text on white menus, stuff like that) and more. But then again I always used phones that weren't friendly to mods such as Samsung and Sony. I resort to custom firmwares when the phone is obsolete, right now I'm using it on an old Xperia Arc, and while it makes the phone usable compared to the disgusting stock rom, it's affected by a shitload of bugs including random reboots.
>>

Is the OP3 literally the best phone right now?
>OP hardware
>tons of ram
>nearly stock android
>currently the fastest on the market other than the iPhone 6s
>fastest fingerprint sensor on the market
>easy to root and mod, and you don't void the warranty doing so
>easy to open up and repair
>top build quality with monkey glass and aluminum
>good camera and audio
>64Gb which is enough for anyone if you also use cloud storage
>400 bucks, less if you find it used

Other than a few bugs that will be fixed (besides, is there any bug free Android? Has there ever been one?) it's basically a perfect phone.

Enjoy your phone becoming unusable within a year. It already lags today after you install some apps and reloads background apps like crazy. I don't have an S7 but I've used one from one of my coworker, I'm the IT grunt and I had to set up a few company apps and accounts on one, it didn't feel as smooth as I expected. Also the OP3 right now is the fastest android phone, and by far if you compare it with midrangers.

Also every phone is chinkshit since they're all built in china.
>>camera certainly not flagship-tier, but okay for the price
Indeed but I'm not a normie and I have no use for the camera. It equals the S7 which is the best on the market right now in daylight which is good enough for me.

Seriously I'd love to find an alternative but nothing has the same amount of pros compared to cons. For the same price I could buy a LG G5 but it looks disgusting, and has gimmicky modular bullshit going on which definitely compromises build quality. And it won't get any update because they're firing everyone who worked on it. I'm not buying samsung, but a heavily used S7 would cost around 400€. The Huawei P9 looks good but the interface is heavily customized and looks like a retarded version of iOS, and the gimmicky camera drives up the price and I don't need it, it's also worse than the OP3.

I feel like at this point so much of the OP3 hate is just a meme. UPS delivered mine the other day and it's been fine so far, no battery life issues (seems to be doing better than my old OPO), no wakelock issues after updating Oxygen OS, the screen isn't the best but isn't the worst and you can enable sRGB if the inaccurate AMOLED colors bother you, and the camera is passable.

You could do a lot worse for $400. I feel like so many people are still booty blasted by OnePlus' (admittedly cringe-worthy and terrible) marketing campaigns in the past. It's obviously not going to be on the same level as the current stable of flagships from Samsung/HTC/LG/Google, but it seems like a solid enough phone that I'm pleased with it.
>>
>>55733260
>shit pentile display
Pentile does not equal pentile. OP3 pentile is worse than others.

No. Someone posted a review some time ago where the S7, 6S, G5, 6P and OP3 where compared, guess which one died first.
>shit updates aka battery drain issue
Sure inconsistent, but if you want to risk it, suit yourself. 1% battery every 4 minutes is what you can expect.
>no SD
Suit yourself.
>shit DAC
Volume DOES NOT equal quality. Either GSMarena or phonearena made a review which showed the innacurate audio reproduction with significant cross talk
>LTE versions region exclusive
Point is, if you want to travel. EU version might not work in asia or US and vice versa.
>dash charge is propietary
>How is this an issue?
Does not work on CM and you must use the cable+adaptor OP gave you. This feature does not work with any other cable+adaptor

>So yeah, what's a better phone for a similar amount of money? I can spend up to 450€
That price range is mostly dead. Good phones cost more and less expensive ones might be missing features you want.
Choices in 350-450€ range are ZTE Axon 7, Alcatel Idol S4, ZUK Z2 (Pro), OP3, Mi5, Moto G4 Plus, Nexus 5X or some refurb flag ships.
>>
>>55733492
I understand the OP3 is a nice phone for $400 but you still have a bunch of people including this fag >>55733379 who seem to think they'll get a $400 phone that shits all over flagships like the S7 or HTC10 which is simply not the case. Thank you. I've read the 1% every 4 minutes but it seemed like an isolated case from that website who published the article. All the comments said they didn't experience the issue. The audio quality issue has me worried so I'll look into it. the dash charge is not a feature that interests me, also I think fast charging kills the battery faster. I'll most likely use a regular 2A charger.

I'm not buying the S7 because Samsung let me down too many times and they're basically memephones, they're good when they come out and become awful within a year. I'll look into the HTC 10 since I know nothing about it and maybe I'll find it used within my budget.

>>
>>55733903

The OP3 beats it in every single comparison after the ram management update in performance when loading apps and multitasking. Again, it's going to get worse for the S7 like with every other Samsung phone before. Have you ever used a Samsung phone before? I owned the S4 and it became awful after Kitkat and right now it's almost unusable on Lollipop. And it's a bitch to mod due to Knox and everything else. Samsung is also known for making their older phones slow on purpose.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s4-4.4-kitkat-performance-cpu-throttling-dvfs,26414.html

Also how come reviewers always complain about le viewing angles on every single phone out there except samsung phones, but nobody ever complains about the constant distortion and glare on the curves of Edge phones? Samsung definitely pays most reviewers to give them perfect reviews.
>>
>>55733777
Samsung has top hardware but ruins it with shit software. HTC has a top DAC, but i doubt youll find a used one for 400. OPs review says the Idol 4s has a good DAC.
>>
>>55733979
>Also how come reviewers always complain about le viewing angles on every single phone out there except samsung phones
Because they have good viewing angles?
Look nigger you can try to simply deny reality but that only works with normies. I'm telling you every single comparison between that phone and other current gen flagship will end up with the S7 on top, except low-light camera performance where the N6P does miles better and batrery life where it's just somewhat above average.
Also the only thing Knox does is void your warranty which you can totally disregard in Europe anyway cause that kind of practice is against the law.
The OP3 is an eternal chinkmeme with a shitty screen, a shitty battery, a shitty camera and doesn't even come close.

Are there any phones besides the HTC 10 and LG V10 available in the US that have a high quality DAC/amp implementation?
Specifically, ones that preferably work on Sprint, as I have a free Ringplus plan that legitimately takes care of all of my needs (1.5gb of data a month); while I have no need to stick to their specific network at all, I would actually have to pay for a plan on another service, which adds up tremendously...

It sucks since I feel stuck if I want this feature unless I want to shell out somewhere:
1) HTC 10. Not only is the Sprint variant(?) really rare and probably won't get cheap used anytime soon, it's still 599 with coupon new... but it does mean my free plan would recoup that cost and (I think?) it comes with Uh Oh protection. Is it even 'unlocked'?
2) LG V10. Less than 300 USD used and I like the design. Doesn't have a Sprint variant. I'd be using T-Mobile's 20 USD 2gb data only plan, so over 12 months, that adds 240 + fees over a year; not so sweet after that, but it's comparable and I may have plenty of choices after that. Old hardware known to chew power and software support is likely dead; custom ROMs seem near non-existent.
3) Wait for V20 and maybe Nexus Marlin/Sailfish. I am hoping both of these implement this feature, but V20 will likely not be on Sprint and could be very expensive while the Nexus is just a crapshoot based on the correlation that it's designed by HTC who may bring over the HTC 10 DAC/amp and that Nexus phones tend to push some kind of new side hardware standard (like fingerprint scanner/USB-C in 6P/5X) in general. At the same time, the HTC 10 may be too similar to the Nexus while having Uh Oh, which may be a better value than the Nexus with some added 150+ USD cost replacement warranty from Assurant (ehhh).

I'm trying to wait until my Nexus 5 fully dies, but it's gradually becoming an exercise to ensure it stays alive and that the power button doesn't torture me. Why didn't the B&O Play 'Friend' come out here, again?

Straight Talk works by piggybacking on Sprint, Verizon, Tmobile and AT&T towers. As long as your phone is capable of any of those, it will work.

If you don't get out much, you can suffice with a smaller amount of data. 5GB a month is overkill for someone who doesn't commute or stream things over 4G daily, and using wifi will get you by at home.

It's not exactly stock, but it's nowhere near the bloat city that is Samsung. You won't get your usual shitty carrier apps (because you should be buying unlocked, that's a given), and HTC eliminated duplicate pre-installed apps. For defaults of whatever you either get a HTC app or Google's variant.

It works really well, and but the phone is $700 now which is insane. It's discounted by $100 until Aug. 1 so if you want it i would jump on it.
>>
>>55734466

Looking to upgrade from a LG G3 and came here in hopes of guidance. Previous smartphones before the g3 were both iphones (3gs and 4s) and i fucking hate iphones after using them for several years both. I dont care too much about the cpu as long as it is as fast as the g3. What i really need besides the /g/ regular demands (msd slot, removable battery etc) is a good audio interface. Oh and a 1080p screen is fine, or 1440p. But absolutely NO 4k. Budget is 800€ max but id rather not spend that much on it desu.
>>
>>55734383

Where are you located? I'm assuming in the US here, but:
You say you are a NEET who got their first job. Do you have a provider or plan already? If not, what do you need from your plan? Your plan dictates what phone choices you may have and what network you get signal from (T-Mobile, Verizon, etc), so it's equally as important. It's also the actual real expense that adds up for ownership of a smartphone... If you are largely at home and at work and just need basic service and light data when out (using WiFi most of the time), service can be cheap (less than 20 USD a month).

Look up MVNOs such as Ting, Straight Talk, Project Fi, Ultra Mobile, Total Wireless, Tello, Boost/Virgin Mobile, etc. and look up their plans and look up their network. Sprint MVNOs are useless if Sprint signal is garbage in your area, as an example, but they tend to be cheapest.

I personally keep extra media downloaded on my phone, predownload Google Maps data, avoid YouTube when out, set data limits in settings, etc. and I use the data costs saved for a better phone instead.

Also look into Google Voice/Hangouts.

Some people just shouldn't have power to call others retarded.

You either can't read or you glossed over the fact that I own and use an S3, which only goes to 4.3. Either way, you're retarded.

Flash a Cyanogenmod.
>>

I did. It's great. Now my charge port is not working. That's not great. I want to upgrade. Do you get it now?
>>
>>55736011
You'd be pretty hard-pressed to find a modern phone over 100$ that's not running at least 5.0.
Also ROMs exist.

sure is summer here
>>
What do you fuck even need powerful phones for?

If you can make calls, browse chinese cartoon forums, watch porn, play mobile """games""" and text message, what else do you need?

No, really, I have an urge to buy a new phone but I literally have no good reason. Why would anyone buy a new phone when their 2 year old one works perfectly?

Look at the Axon 7 and the latest Alcatel Idol. Both have dedicated DACs and dual speakers and I think at least Axon 7 likely supports sprint because it has a lot of frequencies it operates on.

I'm hesitant to buy a OP3 since the Axon 7 isn't out in the U.S yet, and it seems like $400 is the new "Midrange" phone these days.

Because the latest one is the Z5 and it's the last, and for just a bit more I could have a Samsung S7. I don't like Samsung but paying that much for something weaker is pretty stupid.

I really do fucking want a Z5 though, since the fingerprint reader is the only thing missing from my current phone. Then I'll hold onto it forever, or wait until Xperia X price collapses, if it ever will.

G5, despite of its minor flaws. Far better performance, much, much better camera, and better software. Samsung will slow down significantly after some time, doesn't have mSD slot and the battery life is mediocre at best.

How is the ROM support on the Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime?
Should I expect any issues with unlocking bootloader, rooting, Xposed, etc.?
>>
>>55737753
I dunno man, there's lots of reports of the Moto G4 reaching 47-50 C. When it heats up, the camera and system start to chug. I don't have it, so I can't comment, but that's what it seems. They should have gone with the 650 in the Plus.
>>
>>55737735
Yes, unless they hit delays. Late october is expectation.
HTC, both models, but it was rumored huawei is making the Nexus 7 refresh.

>>55737776
>issues with bootloader, rooting, xposed
nope nope and nope
only issues that are really talked about are battery, camera, and fingerprint after flashing
but not applicable to all
>>
>>55737776
Shitload of pajeet tier ROM's on XDA but CM13 and AOSP are sort of stable. unlocking bootloader needs a permission from Xiaomi and takes a ~ week.
>>
>>55737802
>>55737829
I'll rephrase the question.
I want Nexus-like experience: stock ROM (with quick updates, hopefully) with Xposed. The rest should be as smooth as possible.
Should I go for Redmi Note 3 Pro Prime or Mi 5 (the 64GB one)?
>>
>>55737791

Does the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro work on AT&T?
>>
So my father just bought a Galaxy J5 Dual and encountered the first problem. Apparently, there's no option to sort contacts by their last name, even if there are separate columns for a title, first name and last name, it will still put "Ing. Joe Smith" under "I". What the fuck?

Also, is it worth to upgrade his phone from Android 5 to 6?

Up to you really. There isn't really that much of a difference between the two as they both need to be flashed to CM13 (or whatever other rom of choice), so just look at both phones and which features you need.

>>55737983
android updates are always worth it, it's not like windows updates where shit is always fucked

>>55738184

>>
>>55738188

Why do you guys obsess over redmeme so much? How does it differ from the other chinkshits? I don't see anything special about it.
>>
>>55738070
He claims he heard that Android 6 uses more processing power than 5. I wouldn't know, I'm still on JellyBean. And yes, I did go through all possible settings, options and menus. And found nothing. The only option in contacts is Import/Export.
>>
>>55738487
Because it offers excellent performasnce for a very reasonable price. SD650 is an excellent SoC, and for $~160 it's a fucking bargain.

When phones like Moto G4 come with SD617 (performance from 2 years ago) and sell for $250 you can see why the Redmi makes sense.

Other chinkshits usually come with Medikek SoC's which are slow, overheat and offer no rom support.
>>
>>55738487
Xiaomi is actually pretty reputable. They literally created that market the other chinkshit phones compete in. And the redmimi note 3 is pretty great for the specs and price.

>>55738501
Have you tried checking in system settings > under applications > contacts > sort by? I'm sure even the J5 has this. Would be odd otherwise. I don't know too much about samsungs handling of marshmellow for devices like the J5, but stock the updates are pretty fucking gr8.

... huh, how did I not notice these earlier? Seems like both are likely to work on Sprint, which means they can likely be the best choice.

Mid-range is fine as long as the audio quality is legitimate; it's not like I do much besides media consumption. Even if the devices themselves aren't super amazing, they should be the best value for my use case. Thanks for the heads up. Bonus points if they have a decent enough update schedule or if bootloader unlocking and community can compensate for that.

Time to do some research on these two models...
