Time for the weekly shitposting session.

Thinking of moving the black scubadude into a 710 case and maybe creating a black Seiko~ish bezel. (Assuming i can find an insert)

I think this is ultimately the right call. I used to look at reps all over the place, but the ones that were almost passable were hundreds of dollars. If I can put 500$ aside, I can do that a few times until I can afford a real luxury piece, whether that be a Rolex, a JLC, or even just a Tudor or Sinn.

What does /g/ think of skeleton watches? Thinking of getting one, but my requirements might be way too specific. Illuminated hands, color palette of white/black/yellow in a ratio of about 40%/40%/20%, and needs to fit on a bitchwrist. Also not willing to splurge more than 400€, preferably under or about 300€.

Am I shit out of luck?
>>
>>55688585
>color palette of white/black/yellow in a ratio of about 40%/40%/20%
What the fuck is this?

Also, the most predominant color of any skeletonized watch is going to be silver or gold, depending on the color of the movement and case.
>>
>>55682976
>exposed folded links
Just toss it (but keep the ends) and buy a solid link one, bro. Unless you enjoy painful, slow depilation that is.
>>
>>55688677
Right, should've known that traditional colors don't really work. Let's just say that white = silver and yellow = gold for now because of the dominancy.and me being newfag.
>>
>>55688585
Just get something with a display caseback, since otherwise all the options are going to both look and be dogshit tier.

Let alone fit a bitchwrist.

Hey /g/ newbie here am in the market for a watch but idk what to get or where to start and price...

So here are some things you should know in case someone wants to help a pleb out

>am want skeletal in my life but what brand?

>cost open to mostly anything I'd say nothing less then a good $150

I was gifted a GUESS Style W0252G2 watch. It only has 1 crown, does this mean if I want to set the date, I need wind it up continously until the day Friday aligns with the month 22nd? At the moment the watch is aligned with the 21st on Friday. Which means that it think it's August the 21st, Friday.

What do?
>>
>>55690810
Should be varying crown position for different settings. Check the manual.
>>
>>55690853
It only pulls out once. Manual says keep winding. Fuck I don't want to wind from August 2015 to July 2016, that would take a long time.
>>
>>55690956
Hope you didn't have any plans for this evening.

Either that, or leave the watch be until the next leap year comes around and corrects shit.
>>

As someone who doesn't own one, I think it looks really quite nice, except for that obnoxious black dot on the glass. Very smooth sweep too. Not quite GS tier, but hey.
>>
>>55691518
The black dot is meant to replicate the dials in old rally cars. I think it works with the overall style, but I could see why others wouldn't.
>>
>>55691575
Those were more function than form. Moulded plastic to hold the hands on and the like.

You can do a hell of a lot worse for $1000, that has to be said at the very least.

It's the fact that they have the audacity to charge $925 for a Miyota 9015. You can get that movement in other brands for significantly less or something with a Seiko 6R15, hell you can even find ETA 2824-2 watches for cheaper if you want to go the Swiss route.

Has orient's ii series made the SKX007 obsolete? Hacking, hand wind, quick set for both day and date, cheaper price tag. Whats the point of getting a SKX over one of these besides different looks?

Skx isn't made any more, so while we can make these comparisons for now they'll be getting less relevant as supply gets depleted.

The seiko 5 is just a gift man. I'll take a 50 dollar gift from my parents, any thing else is too much.

A good start.

Add day and date and I'd break my piggy bank. Also a Moon watch without a Moon phase indicator is just weird.

I also agree with fellow watch-anon that a Moon watch really should have a complication that showed the side of the Earth visible from the Moon.

All in all it is a good start but some very obvious features are missing. And I really WANT that.

There is something called style. Strictly speaking astronauts are in contact with ground control all the time (other tan a short period on the far side of the Moon) and a watch is probably not strictly needed. But it is nice.

Pretty sure that's a day/night circle. Dark during pm, light during am.

Read the month closely. It's Jan • • Apr • • Jul • • Oct • • and then repeats again for all 4 years in a leap year cycle. That hand circles once every four years, not once a year
>>
>>55702838
>That hand circles once every four years, not once a year
Completely fucking pointless. Especially knowing it will never make a full circle, unless you ignore regular service.
>>
>>55702481
This.
>>
>>55702881
Even if you were to go and service it every 3 years it's not like the hand resets back to zero after a service and never fully circles. So the need for service isn't relevant to if the design is 'pointless' or not. It conveys the information it conveys.

That being said if you were to go with a traditional 4-5 year service interval then it will circle fully between servicings.

The neo-turtles have the 4R36 movement that you find in SARY, newer 5S , and Gen 2/2.5 Monster's series that hacks and handwinds. So far from experience it's as advertised, a reliable 7XXX series based movement with hacking and pretty comfy handwinding.

It's like comparing system of a down to Mozart.
My definition of fine literature is Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy.
It's simply unfair to those two to call other authors "fine" literature when the works they wrote simple can't compare.
It's especially insulting when shit like catcher or Ulysses is brought up.
This is like meming that Moby Dick is a bad book on /lit/. Just stop.
>>55705345

I had someone tell me the same thing about Linkin park. Ulysses is the literary equivilent of feminists posting on tumblr that doing porn "empowers" women.
>Marxist Karl Radek called Ulysses "a heap of dung, crawling with worms, photographed by a cinema camera through a microscope".

On another note, now that I finished my stupid PCAT I have all the time in the world for vidya, watches, linux shit and shitposting. Pic related is growing on me more and more.

Oh my god it's like I'm back in high school argueing with my feminist english teacher.
It's a fucking whine-fest. If I could ever go into another world I'd go into catcher and tell Holden to man the fuck up. The whole book is just about him being a little bitch.
And retards have the audacity to call the book a bildungsroman.
Compare Holden to Tom Sawyer. Both are discontent with their lives but the difference is that one of them is a little bitch that can't do shit but whine, run away and be a cuck.
It's not even a fucking tumblr post. It's a gia online post with a furry avatar about how he hates his parents and school.

Well, at least the book posters show we are cultured. I have worked in many professions and there is one that really stands out as cultured where people are familiar with everything from Gilgamesh to Wm Gibson (a noted horologically interested author).

I had hoped we could get a discussion going on complications but no joy so far.

I hate to break it to you, but any complication over a chronograph is just made to attract rich chinks trying to compensate for their tiny dicks.

Go read Tom Sawyer. I don't care if you're a euroshit.
I've been clinically depressed (diagnosed) and I powered through it while taking 2 18 credit semesters and finally studying for that garbage 4 hour long test I took yesterday and got a 95 on.
I didn't take medication (probably a bad move though) but I also didn't act like a little bitch.
Having no drive? I had to chug 4 mugs of heavy coffee in the morning to be able to go to class.
It eventually got so bad that I couldn't get out of bed, so I would put the coffee on my bedside so I could chug it and have the caffine jolt me back to being human.
Your shitty book explains nothing about depression. Stop yourself.

It is not a question of what I need it is just that I think it would be neat. I could of course get a planishere or astrolabe app on my phone but that will lack the finesse.

>What profession is that?
I am a patent agent. Like many agents I used to be a researcher (Physics in my case), then went to software, hardware and system development to finally get a salary that enabled me to pay down student loans. Then the triple whammy of downturn, outsourcing being fashionable and the idea of anyone over 35 being unfit to develop stuff hit, I transitioned to my present profession.

>I feel you though. STEM is a shitty meme. I'm almost sure by the time I'm out pharmacy is going to be a dead profession.
Pharma is a huge industry in terms of patenting so we see a bit what is happening there. Long story but let's say not all is smelling roses. Still, they have a 20 year horizon so jobs will not implode yet in spite of patent cliff warnings.

next generation will probably be programmed nanotech which will blur the boundaries between medicine and software.

>I just hope Dubai still creams it's pants over Western degree holders. Nice watch scene there too.
Get a PhD, do 5+ years in R&D and jump over to patent work. A solid degree will be appreciated and work is interesting. And you will have an excellent alibi for wearing a dress watch daily.

My friend. When it is -40 C and windy and you are on an exercise in the arctic field far away from conveniences like toilets you will do anything and I mean ANYTHING to avoid taking a dump as this could mean catastrophic cooling of nether regions.

This means dieting and bowel de-movement and human self control that would scare the daylight out of yogi masters. In the interest of good taste and the presence of at least one lady I shall refrain from detailing what happened on reaching camp and warm toilets.

Arctic in winter is of course dark and I would have liked some heavy duty tritium lit watch face.

Though it's hard to say whether it's better to do it in a 35~40c heat or in arctic conditions, but what's true is that everybody suffers.

Generally hotter conditions will result in diarrhea.
When you sweat out most of your salt content the hypothalamus responds by slowing down water absorption in the small intestine and kidney. It does so to keep the blood isotonic.
The result is dark piss and watery stools.

History lesson time.

One of the issues that Wermacht soldiers faced in the Russian winter is taking a shit. A lot of them were sick with Dysentery as well.

If you took down your pants to take a shit in the open (which in the vast wilderness of Russia is all you got) you were very likely to freeze to death in the process. So the only thing to do was to cut a hole to in your pants to shit through so as to not to freeze to death.

So taking a shit in subarctic conditions isn't fun.

>But why would they do that anyway?

It kills the cock, at least for the first month or so till either you give up or overcome it. As to why? You don't want entire platoons of recruits beating it off all night long.
