If you want to see true autism, head over to the high-accuracy quartz forums. This guy is just a little mad his Seiko is starting to drift, those people keep watches in strictly temperature - controlled environments and track their accuracy daily with quartz regulators and Excel spreadsheets. Many don't adjust for daylight savings time either, to avoid messing with their accuracy readings.

The best is when they try to go back to Bulova and Citizen to get refunds because their HAQ watch was 1 second out of spec over the course of 12 months.

>>55666524
Some people really don't like it. A fellow collector of mine expressed some pretty heated hatred for the movement, saying it wasn't "authentic enough" (because of the electronics). He saw it as a cheap trick, working around the real issues that make the watch inaccurate rather than correcting them.

He said it's a quartz-mechanical hybrid and therefore isn't a "real" mechanical watch, but uses "modern methods" rather than haute horological methods. And it's too slient apparently.

I've never handled one personally but I don't necessarily think what they've done makes it any less a good watch.

>>
>>55666797
Regardless of its status as a real mechanical it is a real well made and innovative watch movement inside otherwise well made watches.

Part of the reason sundry quartz is so blasé is because there's no real effort or care put into your average quartz watch or movement, not because there's a quartz oscillator inside. But that can change at the higher end.

I agree with you, I don't shit on quartz personally (Unless someone is being stupid, like paying 5k for a fucking tag with a quartz that is a clone of a budget seiko movement found in 25$ watches), but I can see why people might prefer the more traditional mechanical movements, of course. I have an f91-w that I absolutely love despite it being a 9$ quartz, digital, piece of plastic that I had to replace the strap on. It's still a good watch.
>>
>>55665591
> eta/sellita movements

>>
>>55666573
The real issue with watched is that mechanical balance wheels and escapements are shitty at keeping time. A quartz oscillator corrects that and replaces the shitty timing mechanism with a better one.

ETA and Sellita are two different watch movement manufacturers. Mühle-Glashütte does not fully make their own movements. Mühle buys their movements from ETA and Sellita and then further modifies them to their own needs/specifications/level of quality.

The ref 105.012 Speedmaster with the 321 made it to the moon. The current model uses an 1861 which is identical to the 321 except it is a cam actuated chrono instead of a column wheel. The 861 and 1861 Speedmasters have been retested by NASA and have flown in space. People make a big deal about it not having the 321 still when the 1861 and 861 are perfectly fine if not more reliable considering the weak point of a column wheel is it's teeth.

No they're not perfectly fine.
Having cams in a $4000-$5000 (asking price) watch is actual Judaism.
Cams are fine in entry level mechanical chronographs, but column wheels are a requirement in mid tier and above.
Only the swatch jews would have the audacity to put fucking cams in such an expensive "luxury" watch, and only retarded cucks would defend it.

Literally a scam. Shit like this makes me really question buying mechanical watches in the current day. At least 7s26 derivatives like the 6r15 are really robust and keep good time. And it won't feel like you literally got scammed.
If the vostok movements didn't suck shit in relation to accuracy they would be great as well.

They switched to the 861 before Omega was bought out by the Swatch group. It made sense to have the less complicated 861 in the Speedy since it is at it's heart a tool watch. You paying a premium for originality. Plus Swiss watch prices are always going up. At it's price point you getting an inhouse movement that is indestructible when all it's competitors have an ETA movement.
>>
>>55671821
>You paying a premium for originality
No you're paying to get cucked.
There's no such thing as a $4000 tool watch. You're fucking kidding yourself if you think anyone that buys a speedmaster doesn't fucking baby it. If you don't then you're a literal mongoloid and shouldn't be allowed to have money. I don't care if you're the richest motherfucker on the planet.
And no it does not make sense to have a less "complicated" movement. Column-wheels are not complicated. If the chinks can shit them out for 200 bucks a pop then Omega can as well.
If you think the 861 movement is akin to a proper in-house movement then you're just an idiot really. It's like Panerai taking those pocket watch movements, decorating the rotor a little and maybe adding a hacking lever, then calling it in-house.
Have more respect for your money and yourself.

Ps. It's not an indestructible movement by a long shot. Cams suck, and there's a reason no other watch at the same price level and higher uses them.

Again, I don't care if you have treasure troves at home, it's simply wrong to use a luxury priced watch as a beater.
It's simply disrespecting your money, time and yourself.

>It doesn't even hack?

>I have to pay a premium service price despite the movement being gimped in the name of simplicity and ease of repair?

Anyone who doesn't have a f91w, DW5600 or similar watch as a beater in their collection is a retard, or doesn't expect to do any kind of manual labor/ outdoors stuff.
>>
>>55672112

Not sure what you define as a daily beater, but I wear a Speedmaster daily, my dude.

If I were not going to wear it, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

I also own a GShock GW5000, which I do put on when I know I'll be doing actual outdoors stuff like Kayaking and such.

It's not steel nor elegant in the slightest. If you want a Casio dress watch, get something dressy from the MTP line. Preferably the tank shaped on an ostrich leather strap.

I've also worn my f91w as beater for 4 years and see no need for a gshock. Wouldn't buy it again though, knowing that the f105w exists.

To be accepted as a Glashutte brand, it's required to design and make a significant portion of the movement in house. So even if their movements are ETA based, they're still heavily modified/re-designed, if you find value in that.

>people say amphibias are shit
>get one
>it's actually nice looking and well finished
>consistently gains 2 seconds a day
>dial a bit low quality but acceptable
>bezel shinyness is unexpectedly off the charts and really catches attention
>lume on hands is bright as fuck and literally shines in broad daylight, so much I'm considering a green band/bezel to complement it
>lume dots on dial are only average but good enough

I certainly didn't expect that much at such a low price, clearly better than any <$150 mechanical, and better than most <$300. Russians really are fucking wizards.

Digging those two invisible watches, what are they?
>>

>GW5000 has a steel case.
Vintage models only, and there's literally no case finish because it's meant to be in a resin outer case.

Bottom line is, if you want a steel Casio, get an overpriced vintage one that a hipster will sell for $200 because apparently it's super rare even though there are thousands up for sale at that price that no one ever buys because the price is far too high.

Or just hold hope that maybe one day, someone at Casio will make an intelligent decision.
>>
Hello /wt/!

Recently, I've asked for your help to buy a watch $100 which is not expensive, looks good, and has quality. You've advised me to get the Seiko 5. I've picked the Seiko 5 SNKE01K1. What do you think about it, /wt/? It's 199$ in my country (yes, we're living in a shitty country, high taxes, etc).

Careful with that word senpai. Water"Resistant" is the correct term.

Cheap with good WR, you're going to be looking at Vostoks, 200M WR is more than enough for any swimmer.

Find a case style you like, I'd recommend the 120, then a dial you like.

You've got the general idea. You've got to really man handle those fuckers because they can be really stubborn to get out. Trust me from experience you are more likely to break whatever you're using to get those bastards out than the actual bracelet itself.

The pin holes would be on the side of the band. Usually you want a very small diameter rod and a little mallet to tap the out in the direction of the arrow

By series do you mean model or do you mean collection? That was one of the models (specifically a 5R64 based model) they released back with the debut of spring drive, it wasn't a part of any collection as far as I know, it was different than anything Seiko ever made previously and they weren't putting it in GS cases or anything.
