The rubber strap is ok, but it makes the watch sit quite high on my wrist because they're small wrists. I'm thinking after a while the rubber will become more pliable and it will sit on my wrist better. If it doesn't I'll replace it with a NATO or leather strap

I preordered this Delfin from the last batch of them. There were multiple delays but Jason would very regularly send out email updates and was very honest and upfront about what was going on. Obviously not an issue when you're buying an in stock item. The watch itself is very well made and very good quality. Sorry for the crappy picture but it's the best I can do at the moment.

Anyone living near the sea, or off the sea has to have a good water resistant watch. This Seiko fits the bill. Cheap, rugged as fuck, ISO certified, a real everyday ( beater ) tank. This come from a 35 yr old merchant mariner electrician with 8 years at sea. Hell, when I mentioned SRP came out, entire crew bought themselves one. some bought two :). And most watches crews use are Seiko divers.

>>55637406
If you can "afford" a car, you can afford a watch. Doesn't mean you'll get one. That way of reasoning is wrong.
If you like the reverso and decide you'll get one eventually it's retarded to get something else that resembles it meanwhile, yeah.
>>
>>55635666
Whatever rating you're looking at, that's a static pressure rating that the manufacturer exceeds with every non-defective example of the case.

A 100m watch (many of which don't have screw-down crowns) might be flooded if you fall out of a boat going at speed, or if you wipe out while kite-boarding, or jump into water from height.

200m watches might even flood if someone dived to 200m and waved their arms around.

The key to making sure your watch doesn't flood is redundancy. Buy something rated to survive well beyond the conditions you'll put it through.

it's just I like that Eterna, and I feel I would have to shop around for the "right" Reverso, but I might want a master control instead. if I am spending several thousand, I feel I might want a round watch. though I like square watches, they are less versatile.

I've found expired deals that put the eterna around 400$. if I ever see one of those again I'd probably go for it since that isn't outrageous for an ETA movement

>putting "slimline" on the dial

I understand that it's the model name, but manufacturers should drop anything from dials which is evident from looking at the piece itself, and even some stuff which isn't evident, such as a jewel count, or "sapphire".

The dial doesn't need to tell me it's slimline, I can see how slim it is. Similarly, watches with display casebacks shouldn't say "automatic" on the dial.

>>55638344
Low end Miyota movements are not as good as a 7s26 (which is a pretty shitty movement in itself honestly).
Low end watches are a trap. You see all these faggots online spewing bullshit about how much "watch you get for the money", but that simple isn't true.
a $300 watch is usually twice as good as a $200 watch.
It's much smarter to buy a Casio, and save up for a nice watch.
Buying a $1000 watch every 3 years or however often you can afford is much better than having a bunch of shitty unserviceable watches.
I laugh my ass off when people just tell you to buy a new movement rather than getting your watch serviced.

I even think Seiko should drop "spring drive" from the dial. If the hand sweeps perfectly, it's a spring drive, and I don't need to be told.

Whatever happened to makers marks? Why can't each company just make a simple pictogram system, based around a core illustration, with the relevant information represented by variations of that illustration?
>>
>>55638449
Or he can buy one of these and save up for the real deal.
Reversos are 6-8k. That should be 3-4 years of saving, and you would appreciate the fuck out of the watch when you finally get it.
Or you can realize that luxury watch aren't meant for 4chan NEETs and be happy with the Casio.
Whichever comes first
>>55638491
I would rather them write their stupid paragraph than have a page of fucking hieroglyphs on my dial.
It's a different age of watch design. You need a spec sheet available to show off whatever shit you bought, then pull out your phone to check the time.

That b would be me, it's the strap shown here:
>>55628579
It's a DiModell Ikarus, in the style of WWII pilot's straps and definitely not a budget strap (cost me $45). It's beautiful and practically indestructible, still in mint condition so far (3 weeks of wearing ~4 days a week). The backing is natural rubber and doesn't get sticky like the silicone based ones that come with cheap dive watches. The downside is that it's still quite stiff and refuses to conform to the shape of my wrist after all this time, so I usually wear it about one hole looser than my other leather straps or it'll pinch the 2 sides of my wrist uncomfortably (slowly getting better though). As for is it overall a worthwhile purchase? Well, i haven't changed straps since i got it, so that'll tell you something.

>>55638425
>That's not how a rubber seal works
Rubber seals work by pressing hard against the surfaces on each side.

If the surrounding water has a higher kinetic energy per unit volume, than the pressure the seal exerts on it's surroundings, it WILL ingress.

Both pressure, and flow, contribute to the kinetic energy of the water particles in contact with the seal. All that's required is a sudden spike exceeding 10atm equivalent, and you're relying on your case to perform in excess of it's 100m rating.
>>
>>55638544
I was talking about hieroglyphs on the caseback.

>>55638548
All the watches in a store have tags on them. I don't want to look at a retail aide every time I check the time.
>>
>>55638762
A properly compressed seal will not undergo this.

Yeah, but he'll feel like shit (and self conscious) for that entire ~4 years. I'm not saying the Casio is a shit watch, but if he's already "settling" for the Eterna, he has high enough standards (or vanity) that wearing the Casio will not bring him any pleasure whatsoever (which is what watches are all about at the end). Sure I won't be able to afford a Tesla Model S for a while, but in the meantime I can actually enjoy driving my pre-owned Audi rather than some purely utilitarian appliance. And used mid-tier watches usually depreciate much less than used cars.

Dear faggots,

I need a machine to grind glass, a la Kronoglass, to round and bezel crystals from 1mm to 4mm thicc for my shop in southamerica, do you know of something capable to do that?
Kronoglass looks good, but seems really slow and I need to mass produce.

I know that I could buy the finished product from China and rebrand it, but customs in my country are a pain in the ass, so I'd rather risk it with a machine.

Is CNC accurate enough for watches? Because I've considered a CNC machine and get something to do the bezel but I've had no luck with that.

Thanks.

>You routinely see 200m rated watches go down to 300m and 400m with no problem.
No you don't, because the deepest recorded scuba dive is 330m, and fewer people have dived beyond 280 than have walked on the moon.

The reason why 200m rated watches may go deeper is because 200m is the minimum performance rating.

I'm assuming you're in Europe since your first choice was watchbandcenter. Yeah, DiModell is known for racing/pilot straps, not dress appropriate ones. For similar construction but dress straps, you'll have better luck with Hirsch's higher end ($50+) offerings.

Btw, I can't recommend Fluco enough. Even though then don't have crazy tech in their straps, they're imo the best bang-for-the-buck ones I've bought so far. Solid, German made cow leather (including shell cordovan, bridal leather options) in a large variety of styles at usually $35 or under.

No they do not use capacitors anymore. They use rechargeable batteries. Once fully charged the batteries can run your watch for upto 6 months or more even if there is no exposure to sunlight.

Batteries should be good for more than 20 years, or so they say. Provided you don't completely discharge the battery often. Just keep the watch on your table or near a window when you are not wearing it and it will be fine for decades.

Yeah and badges advertising your shit on cars are just as bad as they are on watches. Debadged is the best. Toyota is actually really good for this... For example, the V6 Camry is debadged. There is nothing on the back that tells you "there is a monster under the hood", the dual exhausts are the only giveaway. People who debadge their BMW Ms are cool and the cars are also cool by virtue of being sleepers. Meanwhile the Range Rovers with a dozen footballer bling badges all over them look tryhard and disgusting in comparison.

Opinions on Helvetia? I just bought one from a guy who didn't want to pay for a whole repair & service for around $27 in burgershekels (first owner, since 1975). It has a 25 jewel ETA 2783 automatic movement which interestingly has a twisted stem.
So far what it needs:
>new crystal
>new setting lever spring (already ordered it)
>de-rust the stem and some parts of the keyless work (already soaking in vinegar)
>full service
>a nice leather strap
I didn't take a pic before I tore it apart for the cleaning machine, so pic is a completely different Helvetia, but same era and movement.

So do you guys think it could be sold for a profit off Ebay or should I just keep it? Gold-plated case is a bit worn, but not scratched, dial is near-mint.

if you want mechanical/automatic you have Seiko 5, Vostok Amphibia/Komandirskie, Swatch Sistem 51(don't), and some other less erm, respected brands such as Alpha that will put chinese or if you are lucky cheap japanese movements in an homage case.

Seiko 5s are well put together and will last years without service, Vostoks are tanks as well. Alpha watches are not water resistant and are made pretty cheaply but aren't going to necessarily fall apart.

It's pretty nice due to the steel case. I put mine on a super engineer bracelet.
>>
>>55655105

What are you looking for in terms of features?
>>
Damn, they look even nicer all together.
>>
>>55655588
The main thing I like would be the stopwatch function, and I want a really accurate watch. (and to look good on a 19 y/o casual guy.)
>>55655563
I really like this watch but the thing thats stopping me is the oval shape inside the display.
Isn't it kinda weird?
>>
>>55655703
10/10 for taste
>>
>>55655716
It is a little weird, I'm used to it now. Accuracy has been pretty good on mine, I'm only off like 2 seconds in the month and a half since I got it.
>>
Is there a good looking Seiko 4R36 diver I can get for cheap as a daily beater? I don't wanna buy a 7S26 watch.
Something in the €150 league.
>>
>>55655703

The Longines is my favorite of that group. I love the supercompressor style.
>>
>>55655812
Oh, yeah, I have bitchwrists.
>>
>>55628015
Can this thread just fuck off? Seriously? When was the last time a watch could play my games at 1080p? I don't even think watches run off of electricity. Get with the times, grandpa, we have smartphones. Jesus christ you people are retards.

Now i know it won't work for mechanical
>>
>>55655716
The PW3001 has a stopwatch that can time up to ~10 hours. I don't know if that will be a problem for you I've had mine for almost three weeks and its been keeping good time. It started running +1s after a week which kind of triggered me but I've since gotten over it.
>>
>>55655703

I'm checking the prices on that Longines diver

Why the hell is there a $4000 difference in price between the version seen in your pic and the stainless steel version?

Isn't it the same movement?
>>
>>55656617

Sorry, the one in your pic is the steel version i think?

There is also a rose gold colored one that's over $5k
>>
What's the point of buying a watch new at retailer price when you get a free huge discount for buying it "used", in perfect, mint condition?

Why would someone ever do that?

Inb4 the warranty. Who cares.
>>
>>55656815
You can generally even get it for less than retail new
>>
>>55630837
Got this one since last week, I recommend it.

Does your watch feel like a prison cell sometimes?
I've been thinking about getting a watch but I worry that I would feel like a slave to time.
>>
>>55656899
Ok but still not as if it's used.

I don't understand it especially if we're talking about luxury watches that will probably never get worn or still be in perfect conditions.

Is there something I'm missing?

All he has to do is stand up and plug the hole with his head.

And it's top heavy, so he can push that shit over.

Not sure how he would break out of it though.
>>
>>55657091
I can see how a watch is useful but I really do worry that being constantly reminded about the linear progression of time would change my personality.
>>
>>55656954
The only thing you're missing is old people who like to go to a dealer and get their dicks sucked by salespeople for purchasing such expensive watches from them. Some of those places send you birthday cards and will keep a bottle of your favorite beer around and shit for when you bring it in on a scheduled service.

The grey market has exploded over the last few years though. People want used or new at a big discounts. And they don't care about flattery, they just want to receive it in a cardboard box

>And they don't care about flattery, they just want to receive it in a cardboard box
Exactly how I like to live my life.
Even the thought of going inside a boutique to "contract" on the price of the watch I want sounds retarded to me. You make me your best offer and I tell you a yes or a no. Stop. I wanna buy watches, nothing else.

All something like that does is make me feel uncomfortable.
>>
>>55657132
What the fuck are you on? Knowing what time it is will not change your fucking personality.
>>
>>55657364
Watching time pass at a seemingly steady rate might impede my capacity to live in the moment.
Human perception of time is wildly non-linear.
A clock could damage our natural psyche.
>>
>>55657383

Nothing
It's a durable little watch that keeps accurate time.
There are reasons to get more expensive watches though, if that's what you're insinuating
>>
>>55633406
There's no way in hell I'm going to pay 350 for a 4r13 and a mineral crystal.
Until the price is like 250 then the 2nd gen monster is still the better buy
>>
>>55655105
Don't bother unless you want to shell out another 50+ for a bracelet that accepts fat lugs
>>
>>55655553
Oh, just oil and water stains then. Use microfiber cloth and distilled water like how you'd clean glasses. I suppose you can use a toothbrush if there is actual dirt stuck in the crevices of the bezel.
>>
>>55656617
are you asking why precious metals cost so much?
>>
>>55656412
Good thing its still under warranty. He said the hand was most likely loose (as in he didn't set it properly at the overhaul) and over-shot the reset. These these things are apparently extremely delicate (can't set too tight or lose). It's just annoying to have to bring it in and pick it up again. Guys, if you don't want to pay $250+ for servicing every 5 years, avoid mechanical chronographs.
