Is this new cause I got a question to ask. I need help with my headset and xbone pls. Currently I've got my headset (input/headphone pin) connected to my monitor and I'm thinking of connecting my mic pin into the monitor also to communicate in the xbox live party. Will this work? If not, what alternatives do I have?

hi /sqt/

i'm looking for a program or something that i can use to view multiple sources of online video simultaneously, a video wall for a lack of a better term. preferably only one audio would play depending on the video screen i click. i'll use this to stay on every news channel since there's a violent military coup going on atm

though i kinda need a quick answer since there are jets zooming above me for the last 4 hours so idk if the internet will hold on. thanks.

To write code that solves certain types of problems, it's essential. For other types of code, anything beyond basic algebra would be basically useless.
If you're interested in, e.g. digital signal processing or graphics programming, the more math the better, probably.

What's the best alternative to the RX 480 for $75-200? I'm trying to get a video card as soon as possible but the RX 480 isn't being sold anywhere (that I'm aware of) for $200 currently. Used or New is fine. I don't care if it's old as dirt as long as I can play Dota 2 at Maximum settings 60+ FPS.

It's not a matter of entitlement. I'm just asking a simple question which shouldn't need a lon time to respond. It's like a kid asking what's 2+2 and you take an hour to respond. If I asked something issue I was having setting up RAID on my NAS it would make perfect sense if someone didn't respond for 2 hours because it's a very specialised problem. No need to be butthurt about it anons.

I have a question about Copperhead OS for anyone that knows about such things. I would like to install it on my device, but my device is an HTC One M8 (from Sprint, if that is relevant), which is not an officially supported device. I was wondering if it would be possible to follow some of the steps here https://copperhead.co/android/docs/building and just try putting in some of the device-specific code from Cyanogenmod as documented here https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Build_for_m8#Prepare_the_device-specific_code . I have some knowledge of how to compile things and stuff like that, but I would not be able to do this if it requires extreme knowledge of this stuff. Does anyone know if this is possible with only a moderate skillset?

I can't remember the exact methods but I think the process uses a microSD card. I think it goes something like this:
1.Install run Android OS onto microSD
2.Then install some other app on your phone
3.Do something to the startup.exe file for the android
4. Reboot and your phone should run android
Again I don't remember the steps very well so I've skipped quite alot, but this should either help you start researching from somewhere or some other anon will be able to fill in the blanks.

Linux definitely involves going outside your comfort zone, but it can be a very rewarding experience. Once you get the hang of it, many things like program updates and connecting peripherals can be much more convenient than under windows. And while there are certainly some programs that won’t work on linux, there are also many free ones designed specifically for it, and with some tinkering in W.I.N.E. many windows programs are supported as well. Linux has a knack for running very smoothly until some weird problem comes up, then it’s off to the forums. Luckily you don’t have to dive in all at once. You can start by running a copy within windows using VMware or Virtualbox, and if that goes well, try a dual boot. Ubuntu is one of the easier distros to use and comes with an active online community and many guides for beginners. A great way to minimize risk before shrinking windows or trying a dual boot is to do a complete system backup with Macrium Reflect or similar. And after installing linux, I recommend downloading the third party (PPA) program Timeshift as a kind of equivalent to Windows Restore, to help you undo most minor mistakes without hours of searching through forums. Good luck!

Dude, that's basically a TCG mat. It's like saying you have VOZE and Deer Park when they are still water. They just have a different label is the only difference.

However, if you want a cool looking for, find your local hobby shop and ask if they have different versions. Or you could also goto walmart and if they have those Pokemon or yugioh big boxes with like 100 cards and a play mat. I got a Dark Magician/girl and a Slifer mat. Love them both
>>
>>55596411
Do TCG mats have non-slip rubber beneath them?
>>
>>55596371
Unless you were trying to run them in raid to increase speed, I would expect a single large one to be better. SSDs benifit from free space. They use it as part of their trim process and they ignore partition lines. So an ssd is happier if it has free space to work with. If all data was always evenly distributed, it probably wouldn't matter as much

Is there a way to make sure the Windows task manager is always on top, so if a program crashes and stays in the foreground, you can still use the task manager? Most TCG nerds more than likely do what I do with mine but you wont see it often outside of that community 2bh

My computer died and im trying to diagnose why. It started where my computer would not come out of sleep mode and just doing a restart fixed it by unplugging and plugging back in. Today though I couldn't get any response and after restarting I still got nothing. No fans spinning, no lights on the inside but my snowball mic still had an orange light on so I figured power was still running. I reseated the RAM, reseated the bios and the 24 pin connector. Is it the mobo or the PSU??

You committed the 4chan faux pas of sounding like an impatient 12 year old who spends all day yelling at people on xbox, then when this was pointed out, rather than being like "hey guys, sorry I didn't mean to sound impatient, I would really appreciate your help" you stuck to your guns and kept acting like everybody else was a retard. Every group has it's social norms and you violated this ones. Being redirected to other groups for help would have been a great opportunity to just bow out unless you really felt like sticking around just to prove you were in the right

It would depend heavily on the model of phone. People don't realize how much phone hardware varies from model to model compared to PCs. There have definitely been cross hackable models in the past, but much like rooting or changing your android distro, it's up to people to create hacks on a case by case basis, and the technique to set it up varies widely from phone to phone. I would check your model on forum.xda-developers.com, and if you haven't bought already maybe see which ones are workable before making the purchase

That's a tough one kid. A PSU can have certain power feeds go out first, and I feel like that would better explain the slow decline of your pc's functionality, but really it could turn out to be either. I would try replacing your psu first cause that's cheaper and easier, and if that doesn't work move on up to your mobo. Maybe if you have a cheap psu lying around you could try connecting the core components to that just to see if it works. Just don't try to open up the psu or touch any exposed parts

Are these going to be your only computer for school? We are talking 13" screens here, closer to 12 for the pro. I wouldn't trust a tablet pen to be useful for graphic design unless you've really tried it personally. They've been trying that shtic for ages and more often than not it doesn't work very well in practice. Mac is handy if you run with the media editing crowd. With a portable device I'd be more worried about extended warentees than geeksquad. A lot of things tend to fuck up around the 2-3 year mark and need work or replacement.

that's kinda what i've been thinking too, it's just that i don't really know if i like windows 10, as well as i've heard macbooks tend to last longer than windows computers do, and i don't really care for touchscreen. my coworker has one as well, albeit he has the best model, he loves it. he doesn't use the touchscreen either, just the surface pen so his is pretty clean still. although with the keyboard it won't be much different priced than the macbook because i dont think i get an employee discount on them.

"one year extension" part is irrelevant. The new support years they list are in line with other win 7/8 devices.

Most of the incompatibility is just poor support for pre-usb3.0 drivers, and that can be fixed with a patch.

>It's the electricity that is converted due to resistance

That's only part of the story. The fact that it's 1.6b gigantic 32nm transistors on a massive compared to any intel cpu die with an inefficient architecture clocked at a ridiculous 4.7ghz (which generates a lot of heat because of how fast the transistors need to switch between 1 and 0 at that speed as opposed to a lower clock and is also why higher clock speeds = more heat even without more voltage) also contributes massively to its unreal TDP, i would hold onto it as a collectors item though, AFAIK its the hottest chip in history and will likely keep that title for our entire lifetime.

The company saves customers’ basic information—name, contact details, passwords, demographic data and credit card specifics —but it also digs a bit deeper.
Other information Microsoft saves includes Bing search queries and conversations with the new digital personal assistant Cortana; contents of private communications such as email; websites and apps visited (including features accessed and length of time used); and contents of private folders. Furthermore, “your typed and handwritten words are collected,” the Privacy Statementsays, which many online observers liken to a keylogger.

Basically microsoft scrutinizes and records everything you do and saves it to a permanent record, and sells it to advertisers. The also turn it over to law enforcement. They send a lot of stuff to a lot of places, some of it potentially comprehensible, but in the cornucopia of different ways information can be stolen, that's probably not the way you'll get boned. If you don't care about any of that, you're probably good.

I mean, I guess, yeah, that's probably a valid reason. Remember what you plugged in where is a better solution. Personally, I'd be drilling a hole in my case and zip-tying it on, although I realize that's not for everyone.
>Plus using that coating seems like a bad idea on something that produces heat. Will look into it though if you guys think its a really bad idea to mount it between the front panel and the filter.
Nah, not the amount of heat that a drive produces. They don't get too toasty, and all the parts they use are the same type of stuff that you find in the parts of your computer that do get toasty. Plus it's a pretty thin layer, and it's specifically designed to coat electronics. Putting it in a filter is going to cover it in dust, unless you mount it well, it'll probably rattle, and I don't know how it would affect airflow.
>>55597875
It's easily damaged, both physically and magnetically, and people are idiots. Short of joining you in an MRI or on a trip to some of the more irradiated parts of Chernobyl, or spending time near the type of radio equipment with high enough power ratings to have OSHA exposure limits, you ain't fucking up your flash drives and SD cards. Plus, flash drives and SD cards are an established standard that only require pennies of cost in hardware to interface with your PC, and don't really have a point of physical failure, versus all the moving parts in a tape drive. Also they're small as shit.

Connecting on an irc as the anon had said is a hassle in itself while getting on discord is in itself a very easy. Just login on the site or the client, add your friend or a VERY simple server code and bam you're in. No hassle. Considering the amt of features it has, and yes they said it's basicaly an IRC. How would that work? Is it still magnetic, or will it be physically written to? If the former, magnets still kill it, if the latter, the constant physical stress from writing or from the bending of being wound/unwound would kill it. Plus it's probably pretty sharp, and still delicate, because any slight bends are no longer not-a-big-deal since they STAY bent, whereas the plastic tape of olden times would just have one tiny area where it won't read right.

So I am taking some free time to see if I can fix an old motherboard. An asus h81 Plus.

What happens is that basically I tampered with a BIOS and bypassed the security check by using a different tool, AFUDOS. It was all in the name of science.

So it worked at first, I could boot into my system but after restarting a few times it would act silly and duplicate boot entries (as if I had 10 drives to boot from instead of just one). Afterwards it got stuck in the POST screen and just rebooting again would not even show up anything. Like it was dying slowly and painfully.

I did CMOS reset and I managed to get it to show the amazing POST screen but it would either get stuck there or restart the PC causing a bootloop basically. The BIOS would not show up of course, and I tried to use the crashfree feature which requires me to rename a bios file, put it on a USB drive and try to boot it up with that.

It didn't work either. It's weird because the activity led of my USB drive shows that it's being used, but all I will get is the nice ASUS logo and a thin line at the top with multicolored pixels.

So after all of this nonsense (and even though the PC speaker just does one short beep like it's working as intended) I took out the ram sticks, drives, the gpu, had to take out my old monitor to use the igpu since it only supports d-sub, hardware wise I tried everything to no avail.

So my question is, with this odd behavior, do you actually believe there must be a way to fix it without having someone reprogram it or is it just deceased? It's not that I need this motherboard but god damn.

Good luck in getting in. AB is way better than nyaa for BDs, music, and archived content.

If you don't get in you might be better off starting off with an oppaitime account then gaining access to the invites forum through uploading and asking for an invite there. Last I checked /ptg/ had a guide on getting in and it's pretty easy.

>>55598030
People don't want to sign up to services as that's work and on top of that they usually ask for an email address which inherently links your account to your identity no matter how often you change your nickname. You're also implying that Discord actually purges your previous aliases from their databases with every name change which they probably don't.

Plus IRC was built for text chat and does it EXTREMELY well with most clients being lightweight and moderately easy to setup.

so is discord tho. I do understand tho. I get the point in which people don't want to sign up but most normal people won't care and throw their email around. >>55598041
Yep. You need to:

1. Install hackintosh first, make 2 HFS partitions, 1 for windows, 1 for hackintosh

2. Install osx, install the clover bootloader on UEFI afterwards

3. When installing windows (through UEFI as well) choose the partition for it you created before, delete it and use that remaining space to install windows (do not create a partition, let windows do it)

4. After the installation and windows updates, boot into hackintosh with the USB you created for hackintosh and access your efi partition with any tool, like clover configurator for instance.

5. Go to the microsoft boot folder and find a file called mgfw.efi and rename it to mgfw-orig.efi

6. Go to the clover folder in that partition and find the cloverx64 efi file, copy it to the microsoft boot folder and rename it as mgfw.efi

Now it should boot into clover and let you.choose both systems.

When you are notified that startup repair cannot repair the computer, click dont send then go into the system recovery/repair options, you want to click on "Command prompt" here.

Once in, enter the following commands:

bootrec /fixmbr

followed by:

bootrec /fixboot

Each command entered should give u a confirmation that the operation completed succesfuly, if so, reboot the system and hopefuly windows should boot normally. Not a 100% fix for getting to the route of the problem but this might let you access the system again.

Yeah rooting shouldn't impact features, although devices tend to have a permanent trip in them to indicate they've been rooted at some point, and there's a very slim chance certain security options could be disabled as a result. I doubt though that it would affect anything you'd care about unless you were trying to use it at a big organization.

I'd change your browser to something like a Firefox with adblock.

Flash and java have lots of vulnerabilities but they're being phased out, so unless you have a specific use for them, they probably wont get installed int the first place. Javascript is still a gaping hole that can potentially wreak all kinds of havoc on your computer. And if you disable it outright the internet seems kind of neutered. The wifi networks you connect to are also a big risk, as having the attacker come between you and the internet allows them to supersede a lot of protections. That's why modern windows devices that get around a lot have such high rates of infection.

>>
>>55600066
Yes, it still could. They could phish you, steal all your brkwser passwords, steal or encrypt files owned by that account... But not modify the system nor install new software the traditional way.

Don't get me wrong, running as an unprivieledged user is still a much better option, but it's not perfect. It would be even better if you'd have an account only for browsing the web, and one for private files.

>100 percent of vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer
This Avecto doesn't know shit. No, it wouldn't remove ALL of the vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer, that doesn't make sense.

With an existing vulnerability. Some "antivitus" software is just terrible, Google even proved that there exists a black market for "antivirus" exploits.

If you want to stay 100% secure, unplug your computer from the internet.
Or you could minimalize your attack surface: remove not used programs, not needed proprietary software, etc.
A very good option now to miminalize a chance of getting attacked is to install Linux in your machine. Now it's a much more secure option than using Windows. Head over to the Friendly Linux Thread, they'll help you with any problems you have while doing so.
>>
>>55600233

I'd like to reiterate that if you go around joining open wifi networks it is very difficult to ensure safety. That's a lot of surface area for an attacker to work with. Not keeping up with your system and browser updates is another big issue potential issue. Avecto is right that limiting user accounts helps significantly, but they're exaggerating to get attention. New vulnerabilities are discovered all the time. Some go unpublished for years. You're looking for a fool proof solution, and there just isn't one. As long as you are networked, there is some risk. It's a back and forth battle that's been raging since 1988 and isn't going to stop. Blocking yourself from malicious websites with services norton DNS is a good start, as well as using chrome with good protective plugins to minimize the impact of javascript. Try to be conciseness of what sites you visit. Try adding WOT to your browser, even though it isn't perfect.

>1:Don't be stupid
>2:Don't download any converter/downloader tools. Remove any and all browser plugins to download YT videos.
>3:Always use adblock. ALWAYS
>4:If you would torrent software, check for a verified uploader and positive comments.
>5:Don't get shreked by shit like music.exe
>6:Once again reinforcing: Don't be stupid.

The only anti-malware that I run is Windows Essentials. Just don't run unknown installers, MS Office macro's and .msi files. Know what it does before you let it do that.

And the thing that rustles my jimmies into the milky way is not reading messages. If you get a pop-up that asks for UAC elevation, read that shit. See what program asks for it.
>>
>>55600390
I didn't know World of tanks was on android now...
In general you're going to be safer with an antivirus, especially if they have a browser plugin. Panda is acceptable. Paid is ideal, like kaspersky or bitdefender. AVs are ranked by testing firms on their rate of detection, and free or paid you want to reevaluate who you pick every year or two. Web of trust labels links in your search results as good or bad based on user feedback. Not perfect, but helpful if you don't trust it implicitly

>>
>>55600541
Jezus christ anon, if you are THAT paranoid you should just cancel your internet connection and look at a blank wall.

Why do you think you are such a HVT that you would endure such heavy attacks? I'm certain that if you keep low profile and defend yourself that you won't get anything.

And if you are running servers you have to keep up with the latest standards.
>>
>>55600566
I'm not paranoid, I just know how things are. It's the reality now and you can't help it. I've done this, at least if you infect a small number of people your malware does not end up in the malware databases.

What I'm trying to tell you is that even if you scan your computer monthly using these programs, you can never be sure that you are 100% secure. It creates a false sense of security for you.
>>
Is youtubes video editor an example of SaaS?
>>
>>55600623
Sure you can.

Like I said, not running unsafe software and knowing what you are doing solves 95% of infections.

Use adblock to prevent driveby infections, and don't visit unsafe websites as a whole.

You can remove 99.999% of the attack vectors yourself. It's impossible to infect a computer behind a firewall. If that computer does not start the infection itself.

>I've done this, at least if you infect a small number of people

How did you infect them? Send them a file and let them run it?
>>
>>55600502
I stand by my phrasing. IN GENERAL you're going to be safer with an antivirus, especially if they have a browser plugin. Everything you install has some attack surface. AVs are designed to root out many different attacks, and boost security in several different ways. This is a point of some contention but I believe the benefits outweigh the risks. That group communicated the issue to the AVs, and they worked on it. That's the same thing that happens with browsers, OSes, etc all the time.

You want to come at this from both directions. Have a good AV and protections in place, but also don't rely on them. Be careful, don't run pirated software, be very careful about what you install and where you browse to. Basically have your system working to defend you, then pretend that it isn't.

It is absolutely correct that you can't expect scanners to catch everything, no matter how many you run. AV databases are reactive. It would be a lot like like expecting your immune system to already have antibodies for all of next years colds. Even heuristics only goes so far.

Is the CCENT exam really hard? Finally saved up enough money from my shit job to pay for the training course and would like some advice before I start. Training takes place at a Sunset Learning Center btw. Gonna ask for 5 days off from work just so I can focus on it

The higher number the faster, although it's worth noting that the 801 and 810 overheat easy

Is 601 snapdrag suitable for me if I don't play games on my phone? I mostly browse chan and read on my phone. Battery life is more important to me.

Well supposedly power efficiency improves from generation to generation, but you should be fine either way.

Never used potplayer. VLC is pretty much the most compatible capable player out there. MPC-HC is one of the most popular alternatives.

On Ubuntu 16.04
Whenever I press "Shut Down" on my computer it doesn't really shutdown, it just goes to the ubuntu loading screen forever and I have to power button it to turn it off. Why?
Whenever I start it there's about a 50% chance it'll just go to a black screen and I'll have to power button it off and try again, again, why?
