Need help choosing a gaming computer/laptop

Right now I have an HP pavilion elite, I believe from 2009.

Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50 GHz 2.50 GHz

RAM: 8.00 GB

Graphics Card: (Nvidia) EVGA GeForce GTX560 Ti

I don't know much about computers I don't know exactly what I need.

I'm starting to have to play games on lower and lower settings and my computer keeps overheating so now my goal is to just upgrade to being able to play on the highest settings without any worries of lag or overheating.

I'm open to scrapping my comp and getting a new one, just upgrading it, building my own (would need specific instructions for this though) or getting a laptop.

With a laptop it would be nice because my friends would have "lan" parties but I would just stay at home and skype with them and play on my comp but it's not the same so a laptop would be nice for that. However I hate how the flat keyboard feels, and my monitor is pretty big so I enjoy the large screen.

So the problem with a laptop would be my gaming alone time would kinda suck, I love having a comfy desktop. So if there's a way to use my monitor and keyboard through my laptop that would make me lean more towards laptop.

Gotta go to work but I will check the thread after. I greatly appreciate anyone who is willing to give me help and advice on this.
