Hey guys, Hope everyone is having a good night. I'm sure this is a super noob question so I'm apologizing ahead of time. I have been looking into buying an active PA system(Peavey 115D) and then I also wanted to get a passive subwoofer but those are just as expensive as the main speaker. I was being a jew and found a passive rockville 18"(Rockville SBG1188 18") that is fairly cheap. However, the active speaker has a 400 watt 8 ohm amp for itself and then another 400 watt 8 ohm amp for another speaker. The rockville sub is 4 ohm 500 watt RMS passive speaker.
TLDR; 8 ohm 400 watt amp to 4 ohm 500 watt RMS subwoofer, what happens? Will I break the amp?
lol I tried man

I dunno, shouldn't break, I think.
> RMS
Sub will probably shit itself.
The problem you're going to have is that the Peavey is expecting another full range cab, not a passive sub. There won't be any sort of crossover and things are really going to sound muddy. Even driven to clipping, I doubt you can do much harm to the sub but I'd certainly look for a dedicated amp to drive it.

It will not be quite as loid as it should be, you couldnt harm either component with that settup.
